My confidence took a hit knowing I couldn't provide for my little one right away. I knew something had to be done and a referral from my husband's cousin led me to Yuko!!!! Yuko helped my husband's cousin clear up her mastitis and since I came in one week postpartum, turns out I did have plenty milk. Yuko listened patiently and closely to my concerns, then used her magic to carefully massage out the areas needed to get the milk flowing while answering all my questions. I was crazy leaking the next two days since Yuko massaged out all the old milk. The whole time I felt nutured in this safe space. I came out of my inititial two hour appointment so much more knowledgeable about my breastfeeding journey and the next steps for my family. Yuko also helped me see what I needed to feel like for baby to latch properly and comfortably. This latching part and deciding what's in future for baby is still in progress, and I'm so happy to have Yuko on team baby. I met with their Executive Director, Lisa, and was immediately drawn to their efforts. Where most nonprofits struggle, they were thriving. They are a small but mighty team, proving to be effective, efficient, and so clearly genuine in everything they do for the community. It wasn't long before I learned I was expecting my first child, and I found myself on the receiving end of their mission. My first impression couldn't have been more on point, and they proved to be a pillar of vital support for all things motherhood. Being military, I had to continue growing my family back on the East Coast, where I'm nowhere near a local chapter like this. Starting my motherhood journey in Hawaii with a resource like this, and then moving away from it, has only made me appreciate this organization more. I wish I would've gotten more involved while I was there. I still find myself turning to their resources for reference halfway across the country! I whole-heartedly believe that HMHB is one of the most impactful organizations you can get involved with because the strength of any community rests on the strength of its families. Thank you, HMHB crew, for bringing back the village! The doctors, nurses, CNA's and other staff helped make my birth experience go as smoothly as possible. They were all professional, compassionate, and gave me 5-star worthy care. My favorite part was our celebratory meal we got to enjoy on the second night of our stay. I was fortunate enough to be on my way home after only 2 nights. The reason for deducting 1 star is because my discharge experience could've gone better. We went from 2 blissful days of feeling taken care of and pampered, to feeling like we were being rushed to move out. An older Asian lady (not sure what her role is at Kapiolani but I know she definitely wasn't a nurse) came into our room and started basically telling us it's time to get ready to go. She asked my husband where our car seat was. We explained to her, per the instructions from our RN that was last taking care of us, we were waiting for the pharmacy to call to let us know my prescription was ready, then my husband will grab the car seat on the way to the pharmacy. Then we would have someone from their staff ensure that we buckled baby in correctly, and then proceed with discharge. This lady started yapping and bossing my husband around, telling him to bring the car around up front and we'll all walk out together. She then proceeded to call the pharmacy to basically tell them to hurry up and fill my prescription. Her presence caused me unnecessary stress. We felt like we were being hurried to clear out the room. On top of that, I was not offered a wheelchair to our car. I had to walk, 2 days postpartum, freshly stitched up and sore, to our car parked in front at guest drop off. Despite this experience I'm not letting it overshadow my overall experience at Kapiolani. The nurses were so sweet and supportive and made me feel like a rock star first time mom after I gave birth to my daughter in just 11 hours. I left feedback for kapiolani and I do hope they take steps to improve their discharge process for future patients.

The Center had its origin thanks to its namesake, Queen Kapiolani, who started a maternity home in 1890. Kapiolani had no children of her own, but left a legacy of devotion to education and health care for women and children. The Center is comprised of a hospital with emergency room capabilities. A clinic with full time physician oversight also operates at the center. The staff at Kapiolani Medical Center is aloha friendly. My daughter had her baby at Kapiolani, where she received good prenatal and delivery care. The Center is currently fundraising to raise money to support growth. I attended parts of the fundraiser, which was a heart warming experience. The facilities are a mishmash of architectural styles mostly from the 1980's. There is modest colorful art throughout the complex. The dining room on the second floor hosts a decent cafeteria and a Starbucks. The hospital is immaculate inside. The hospital is also a teaching hospital in partnership with the medical school at the University of Hawaii. Today, I also had lunch in the Kobayashi & Kosasa Dining Room. A big bowl of soup was only $4! I had broccoli cheese soup, which was healthier than your average soup, made with noticeably less salt. I loved my soup. The cafeteria offers an interesting menu of Hawaiian traditional meals, craft pizzas, salads and more. They offer valet parking, because finding your own parking is near impossible. There is a parking garage somewhere on site, but I'm not sure where.

First of all, Dr. B. is an unprofessional, inconsiderate, lazy doctor. Why do I say this? Well, first of all, i went to see him today for my follow up appointment, and in the exam room, Dr, B. suddenly started coughing a lot when talking to me. I was sitting across from him, in close proximity, sitting on the exam table. So, I asked Dr. B. to put on a mask. Dr.B. didn't cover his mouth, and he wasn't wearing a mask either. To protect me and his patients, many of whom are pregnant, Dr. B. should have had sense enough, as a doctor, to at least wear a mask to protect his patients from his germs and coughing. But he failed to do so. Next, he suddenly left the room to tend to a patient that was feeling faint. What about me as a patient? Why did you leave me hanging doctor in the exam room, with no explanation, and no apology as to whether or not I was supposed to wait for him to return or not? Lastly, Dr. B failed to help me with the medical situation that I went to see him for in the first place, and was unwilling to do the training I needed that could have helped me, thus the low rating I have given him. For all these reasons, I would not recommend Ko'olau Women's Healthcare or Dr. Eesha Bhattacharyya to anyone, and I see that several other patients have also given him one star ratings as well.

Long story short, I ended up hiring a midwife and doula and gave birth at home 3 weeks later. It was one of the best days of my life. With this second pregnancy, I knew I wanted another home birth from the absolute get-go, so this was my first experience having midwife care from the beginning of my pregnancy up until 6 weeks postpartum. Selena, Jasmine, and Amber have been the most gracious, helpful, knowledgeable, supportive, and loving team I could have ever hoped for. No matter what hour of the day (or night) they have been there to answer any questions and guide me through the entire journey. The level of care I received is unmatched. Truly, I can go on and on about how much I am an advocate for home birth, especially with a team like this one. I had the home birth or my dreams, in large part due to them. I trust no team more than them. We are family. Love them forever.

Selena answered the million questions we had for her. made us feel that this was definitely the way to do our birth! i loved how she let us be hands on with what we asked. my husband caught our baby and handed her right to me. so beautiful and amazing. my body recovered amazingly as well. i've had 2 births in the hospital and this has been the best one yet! we got the HK Package a little pricy but worth it. it included the birth pool and liner. they also set up and break down for you. this was great since it allowed my husband and i to bond with our newborn with a clean atmosphere. i also used Jasmine service for my placenta made into capsules. this is a separate price not included in the package. after the birth, Amber was very attentive to our needs. she responded quick to our text and calls. she never made me feel as if i was a bother. she is very knowledgeable especially when it came to questions on breastfeeding. all my worries were normal lol but it helped when she provided information! It's so much more than just the basic medical tests. It's the "How are you feeling?" And focus on overall health and wellness without judgment that keeps me coming backs. She offers esthetic services too, which is super convenient. I've never had any of the aesthetic treatments and I love that she doesn't push anything, but it's nice to have the option and when I'm ready for those treatments, I'll definitely go to Dr Twu.

Teresa is absolutely the best birth Doula! I moved to Hawaii during the pandemic without friends…read moreor family and wanted to find someone to support me through the birth of my first child. From the moment I contacted Teresa I felt her calm caring demeanor and motherly charisma. Teresa met with me several times before the birth and even attended an ultrasound visit with me. Throughout the process Teresa worked well with all of the other players, my husband, nurses, the doctor, etc. With her experience she is keenly aware of the benefit of making sure the hospital staff know she is there to support the birth while communicating her respect for their roles. During the birth Teresa made sure I was comfortable (food, pillows, blankets, ice chips) and helped make the experience as close to my birth plan as possible. My son's birth was not without complications and during some of the concerning moments Teresa helped provide a calm presence. She was even able to capture the exact moment he was born with her amazing photography - I still don't know how she was in two places at once because I felt like she never left my side. After the birth Teresa continued to be a support and the lifeline I needed. When my husband was unable to be there one evening she showed up at midnight to stay with me and the baby. She even brought some decorative lights to help create a nice calm atmosphere. After I left the hospital Teresa helped coordinate with my arranged postpartum doula to make sure I had the support I needed. She also kept in touch for the remainder of my hospital stay and afterwards motivating me with daily challenges like getting outside daily. I ended up needing more help and continued to utilize Teresa's support postpartum - she literally came over and made me chicken soup (her grandmother's recipe) and hand made noodles - it was so delicious. I could go on and on! I was so lucky to have found Teresa and would absolutely recommend her - she is the best!
