The Kaimuki Community park has been their a long time. You can't miss it if you stroll along Wai'alae Ave. Businesses along each side of it, you can't miss it. In many ways, the heart of Kaimuki because it is the park located closest to the kaimuki business town along Wai'alae avenue row. Home to basketball courts, home to tennis courts, home to a nice play area, home to a nice pavilion area, home to a rec/gym area, This was the home to many kaimuki community activities such the annual Easter egg hunt, kaimuki craft fairs, one shot presentations, etc. Kids would go their for their basketball practice and then go across the street to The Pill Box pharmacy for the ice cream soda or milkshake treat- such pleasant memories of days gone buy. Now it's 7-11 for that drink, more selection but not the same. One generation leaves, the next generation settles in, but the one constant in this equation: Kaimuki Community park. read more

We played pickle ball here as the courts are drawn out for pickle ball/tennis. It's hard to find parking. It gets crowded in the evenings.

Came here before but this time I came with the family for the Keep It Kaimuki event. I arrived about 11:30am and there was free parking at the nearby closed elementary school. I brought a cooler in case it was really hot but because the way the park is situated the playground area is really well shaded from the sun. This also one of the only parks with swings in operational condition and the ground and playground is also in great condition. There was a concert in the park area between the basketball and playground areas. I got to see Jake Shimabukuro jam on his ukulele for couple songs which was great. Bathrooms are located next to the basketball courts and it was relatively clean but there was a homeless guy taking a bath in the sink while I used it. My son actually actually asked to borrow his soap which was kind of cool that he shared his soap with my son. Would definitely come again if I was in the area with the family. read more

When I went there, there were at least 3 homeless. They're taking up the space under the roofs. Office was close for Sunday. The stage area was chained. There is the small play place. It looks only street parking. Had hard time to find a parking spot. read more

It's basically my neighborhood park. Been here ever since I can remember! This neighborhood park is good for a multitude of uses, majority of it is used to play basketball at the basketball courts and inside the gym. I normally see families on the 10th Avenue side playing with their children on the swing sets. I remember going to the gym while in elementary school (Liliuokalani) and we had some gym time there, since the school complex did not have a real good PE program at the time (late 1980's). It was the first taste of sports in my life. Over the years, I have come to Kaimuki Community Park as a means of just being more in touch with the local community, while being physically active as well. In high school, I started to play basketball with a group of friends. While I started to get pretty good at the game, the first instance of breaking my ankle then made me realize that basketball wasn't the sport for me. Having been connected to Kaimuki for so long, this community park has been the glue that holds the community together, in more ways than one. It's very close to where I do live, and I run past it regularly when I do have the chance to. The Kaimuki Community Park reminds me of a miniature city park. Not that small, but not that large either. Located on Waialae Avemue, 10th Avenue, and Sierra Drive, it's basically in the center of Kaimuki town and a source of community pride. Maybe I will come back here and play some basketball, just for nostagila. I do agree with some of the yelpers, who says that this place is due for a major upgrade. Practically this entire community park had not changed since I was in elementary school, which is like over 25 years ago. Yikes! I did try my hand at tennis a few times, so the tennis course is always great. Always is busy too during the weekend mornings and weekday afternoon. Sometimes, there are people just want to take a rest break from the life's craziness, so coming here can be an option for many people. Sometimes, there are homeless people who frequent the park, but that's how it goes in these sign of the economic times. There is basically no existent parking here, unless you count the metered street parking along the cooridor of the park itself. Best bet would be to park at the adjacent parking lot in the Kaimuki Business complex. They charge after the first 30 minutes, but it is worth it if you stay here and play some basketball. Nice park very close to where I live. Take my child here 3 times a week to play on the playground. The playground is made of the recycled rubber thing but there are many holes especially under the swings. There are 2 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, 2 volleyball courts and a gym. Its nice to go in the gym on free play days. If its not busy in the gym the staff will lower one of the 8ft rims for my son to shoot some baskets. Very nice staff, you can always borrow a basketball. Don't take your kids to play on outdoor stage, there are some homeless people that stay there. Also the men's restroom has been locked. You need to ask staff in gym to open it whenever you need to go. They have a fun Easter Egg hunt event, costume contest event that are very fun for kids. read more

This park is located next to the main road and close by to the H1 exit. Street parking is available and depending on what street you park on will either be free or paid via parking meter. They have a couple areas with tables that you could use for picnics as well as a big grassy area if you decide to lay a blanket out to relax. If you have a child, a small little park is there so they could enjoy the day. For you tennis and basketball players, the park also has a couple tennis courts and basketball courts available for use. There's also an indoor basketball court as well that is open usually for league games. Beverages and food is asked to not be brought into the gym due to the wooden floors and also because it may attract insects inside the building. Overall a nice place to relax and enjoy!! read more

This park seems to be very well used, every time I walk through it (from my favorite secret parking on tenth to where I work on 11th), there are always people playing basketball, kids playing on the playground set, older kids playing tennis, older men practicing some japanese exercises in the gym or people doing things in the community rooms. It's a good thing that there are so many people that use this park. I wish all community parks were utilized to the same capacity. As I said before, 10th avenue is my secret free parking street. But because there are always so many people at this park, I sometimes can't find parking on 10th. There is also a homeless guy who parks his car on tenth for weeks at a time. If you can't find free parking on tenth, many people either park in the metered stalls along waialae or in the lot behind big city diner. This park is definitely a cornerstone of kaimuki because of all the local traffic, but I don't like that there are so many homeless people here or that the Chinese workers from happy day come over with their flattened cardboard boxes to take naps on the sidewalks. read more

My son loves this playground. He enjoyed exploring all the equipment at the playground but especially favored the two climbing areas and the swings. The large surrounding trees offered much needed shade from the heat and sun as we were there after lunch and my son insisted on staying despite being tired and sleepy! We've driven by this park countless times in the past but never tried it out until last year when I took my son to his first Easter Egg Hunt. He was more fascinated to watch the egg hunt than participate. Street parking is available alongside the park but can be a pain during the weekend or special events. read more

This park totally reminds me of big city old park. Nothing special but nice to have a little park at the middle of a city. Some benches to rest. Never been here early in the morning, but would be a perfect place for Tai Chi or Qigong practice only if it is not too loud. 3 leveled grounds and hill on the side reminds me of some other hilly cities. This park is a bit run down but still nice. It's a great place to stop by for a pit stop if you're looking for a restroom. The park is closed from 10 pm to 5 am. The small parking lot is currently closed, but there is street parking that are both paid and free. There is also parking in the neighboring municipal lot across the street. There are numerous basketball hoops both inside and outside of the gym. There is also a tennis court here along with a playground. Water fountains are available too if you get thirsty. read more

Well I used to avoid this park because of weapons-of-mass-destruction level STENCH of 6-months unbathed homeless people shuffling around, constant smoking/drugging, public drug dealing from the street. BUT in the past 12 months the community obviously pulled together and basically resolved the problem. They kicked the drug dealers out, and that dealt with most of the problem I guess. Today I did my yoga practice there, no problem. Just calm, civil individuals having lunch, doing the playground/kids thing, playing tennis and whatnot. The stench and smokers are gone. read more

This park was located directly across where I used to work and it was convenient if I wanted to take my son here to play after work. My husband still works near the park so if we're waiting we come here too. The playground definitely could use an upgrade. One of the swings is out of commission so it worries me when I want to push my son on the swing. The other equipment is okay but it's not that big especially come 5pm and everyone and their 3 month old child is there playing! I wish there were two playgrounds here because it's certainly not big enough to accomodate everyone unless there's only two families playing there. Also sometimes the kids are unsupervised so I see a lot of kids getting pushed about if no one is looking. Some of the kids/parents don't speak English so if you try to scold them, it's pointless! My son loves the slide so I just let him stick with that... The tennis courts are always in use and a lot of older people seem to occupy it every morning. The basketball courts are usually busiest during lunch and in the afternoons. I hardly see anyone playing on it otherwise. The gym is hot, stuffy, and cramped. I would prefer not to have my child have any games there because I can't imagine when it's packed. It is in dire need of a facelift too. The entire park isn't too big but it is good enough I guess. There's a stage and benches and not too many homeless. If there was more homeless, I probably wouldn't come here. Parking sucks if you come during the busy hours! There's a lot of moms during the day so most of the street, metered parking is filled. In the afternoon, I am not sure how you would be able to find a spot unless you parked way up 10th avenue. This park is the only little green "oasis" in the Kaimuki business district. I'm new to the neighborhood so I can't say how this park was a few years ago but in the 6 months I've been coming here to enjoy sitting on the benches for a few minutes with my morning coffee I think it's a nice park. The completed renovation of the playground has really made it better. I see more families and people enjoying it and I think that helps keep troublemakers and homeless from overtaking the park. On weekends you can hear people using the community building or people playing basketball, gives a real nice old-time neighborhood vibe. Some of the benches need replacing and I'd love if the park technically allowed dogs since for me there is no park within walking distance besides this one... but overall I like Kaimuki Community Park and am grateful its here, flaws and all. read more

Every time I pass by this place since my last review it seems to get worse. No swings now, more homeless moving in just sitting around by the playground or on the basketball court, looking more rundown by the day, I doubt they reinstated the public restrooms too. If you're on the bus, 15 more minutes on the 1L will get you to Waialae Iki. In the other direction, you can ride down to Moiliili or the mouth of St. Louis/Dole and walk to Kanewai Park or Old Stadium park. Both of these parks in town have recently been completely renovated, have restrooms (or for Old Stadium go to the library right near it for clean drug free toilets) and are safer for the keiki. read more

I would say this is a pretty nice park right across and actually right around a relatively busy Waialae Ave. and Kaimuki area. It is on the intersection of Sierra Dr. and Waialae and also in between 10th Ave. and Sierra Dr. / 11th Ave. on Waialae Ave. If you are driving here, parking is pretty much on the street parking where they have meters. Of course you have to pay during the day time but if you come after hours and stuff then no need but the parking might be full or not depending on the time and day. Like for example, it is pretty busy during the weekday night time because that is when a lot of people like to play basketball on the courts and stuff. They have a nice and small playground. You still have to watch the kids of course so make sure you watch them, just because it is Kaimuki, still Kaimuki. Anyways, the park is pretty convenient because it is right next to many things like 7-Eleven right across the street and many restaurants like Big City Diner up the hill. If you live in the Kaimuki or around there, this is a nice place to visit and just chill or hang out kine. read more
