It's a fantastic partially shaded playground for the kids. Some of the older reviews are outdated (I'm writing about the park in 2025.). There are many play structures now and a "bigger kid" structure nearby. Overall it's very clean and seems well-maintained. The ground is well padded.

This park was very nice, tucked away in the center of Waikiki-- there were some pros here: Lots of seating for parents (about 12 benches), a huge field for kids to run around in and an area well-kept. The cons (for me at least): there weren't that many things to do ... there's 2 slides, monkey bars, a small bridge and a climbing element or two. The major con for me is that the metal stairs leading up to one of the slides was a bit sharp and cut my toddler. He wasn't able to slide down the slides easily either... he kept sticking to the metal material. We had to cut our playtime very short because of the cut on his leg. He ended up saying he didn't have fun because he got hurt at this particular park. All in all, it's an okay place but maybe not great for toddlers.

You're never too old to go out and play... Kolowalu Park is that little patch of joy just down the street from Ala Moana Center steps away from South Shore Market. Cute play area for kids with benches easily giving you six feet of distance is comforting for some that craves that space. Depending on the time of day your there may be shaded from neighboring condos, the lack of shade can make it a challenge for some and basically impossible on rainy days. With it being a dog friendly neighborhood this park does have many bringing their dogs to this unofficial dog walking/park area to chill though it's not safe to leave children and pets unattended as their isn't any fencing to secure them from harm from traffic. I do like to take a quick break here whenever I'm walking to nearby places since parking right across at South Shore Market garage is free, besides using the bathroom there as well makes it only a logical place to park. This simple place does bring joy to all ages which is always appreciated...to go outside. Thank you!

One of the best park for the dogs, I must say. Peaceful and not crowded. You'll also notice that aside from dogs, toddlers used to hangout in here as it is mainly for kid's playground. Pretty sure kids got free time to play as much as their parents want. There are also benches available in here. Licking an ice cream or feasting a donuts will be a fun thing to do while idling and watch the kids play around and dogs who trained to do tricks. It is a field of grass and good for picnic too. Located at the corner of Queen & Waimanu streets, this park is just across South Shore Market. Several stores are here where you can grab some snacks and bring them at the park. No free parking but metered parking spaces available in Queen Street. Nearby is a biki bike station which make it convenient to go in and out to this park. Looking for a safe place to bring your kids to play and socialize? Come to Kolowalu Park. The park has a small jungle gym with a rubberized bottom for the kids to play, and 14 benches for the parents to sit on. There are also trash cans and a water fountain. There is plenty of green grass space for the kids to run around, play catch, etc. Even dogs are allowed (on-leash). There are a few metered parking spaces right on Queen Street, or I suppose you could park in the parking lot next to TJ Maxx (although technically that lot is for Ward customers only). You'd think that the park is used mostly by people who live in the surrounding condos, but there are actually a lot of people who come from all over the island, because it's such a safe playground for the kids.

We love to come to this playground. We either pay for street parking nearby OR park inside the parking structure for TjMaxx. It's nice and clean. Lots of park benches, drinking fountain, and shade. Also there are biki bikes if you want to rent and ride around.

Great park between TJ Max and Koolaulani(sp)

I love this park! It's located between TJ Max and Ko'olani Condominium. I park in the new parking structure at Ward to access this park. When my family is in the Ward/Ala Moana area we stop by so my daughter can expend some of her energy and of course so she can can be around other kids and play. The #1 reason ilike this park is because it is clean and safe! I like that the children and adults here seem well mannered, civilized, and are positive models for my daughter. I also like how children here are being watched closely/supervised by their parent(s) and that I see parents playing with their kiddos. The play equipment is newer (no rust) which is a bonus because I've had difficulty finding a newer park near my home. There is a large grassy are where I've seen children learning to ride their bikes, littler kids learning to walk, and children playing ball.

Located just across from Kaimana Beach, I come here after my weekday swims to dry off in the sun and immerse in its solitude. When here, the world feels quieter, calmer -- like everything noisy in my head softens to a whisper and the litter of cluttered thoughts melt away with each song of the birds. Maybe it's the mana of the ancients still lingering, guarding the spirit of this cultural sanctuary. A memory of Hawaiʻi from a simpler time, still alive in the bones of the land. Opened in 1877 by King Kalākaua and named for Queen Kapiʻolani, it ranks among the oldest public parks on Oʻahu -- sprawling across about 300 acres. The loop around the park is about 1.7 miles. Originally a Horse Racing Venue, the land was initially created for the Kapiʻolani Park Association, which organized horse racing events for Hawaiian royalty and elite families. The racetrack, called the Kapiʻolani Park Race Track, was a central attraction and helped foster equestrian culture among the aliʻi (nobility). Presently, it's also home to the Honolulu Zoo, Waikīkī Shell and the Bandstand, home of the Royal Hawaiian Band. With Diamond Head towering over the park like a gatekeeper, the park is scattered with all kinds of trees -- coconut palms swaying hypnotically in the breeze, monkeypods stretching wide, and banyan trees casting deep shade for anyone escaping the midday sun. These trees also serve as homes to all sorts of birds: the bold Red-crested Cardinal, the bright green Rose-ringed Parakeet, and the graceful Manu o Kū -- Honolulu's official bird. They're pure white seabirds that nest impossibly on bare tree branches. Of all the trees here, the banyan is my fave. They're spectacular in how they grow -- with long roots that drop from their branches like ropes. When those roots touch the ground, they become new trunks, and the tree keeps expanding outward. What starts as a single tree becomes something that looks like an entire forest. To me, the banyan is a living symbol of community. The strongest among us aren't the ones who stand alone -- they're the ones who grow wide enough to support others. Every branch sends down roots, not to separate, but to deepen connection. Over time, what began as one becomes a sheltering canopy for many. Kapiʻolani Park is peaceful during the day, but it comes alive in the evenings. You'll hear the joyful sounds of kids playing soccer and football, people doing yoga under the trees, and families laid out on picnic blankets under the fading sun. There's plenty of metered parking -- just 25 cents for 30 minutes, probably the cheapest in the city -- but fair warning: spots fill up fast in the evenings. Parking is free on the mountain side of the park. But that also fills up quickly in the evenings and weekends. Peace

There's plenty of free parking. Out of all the City and County botanical gardens, this is the only one with admission, but it's well worth the price - $5 for adults, $3 for Hawai'i Residents, $1 Children 6-12 (so, 13+ are adults?), and free for kids 5 and under. There is a free docent-led 90-minute tour at 10:30am - every Monday and Wednesday to Saturday - anyone can join. Walk-ins okay if there's space, or make reservations via email or phone. Before heading in, you can grab a map and a bird checklist. The garden itself is very well kept and quite spacious. There are two restrooms - one on the left and another on the right. They were quite clean! All areas, trees, and plants are clearly marked. Be on the lookout for the "exceptional trees" such as the Baobab, which looks like elephant legs; Cannonball Tree, Kapok, and etc. The Orchid Collection in the greenhouse has a nice variety with the infamous Corpse Flower. Overall, a very nice, well-maintained place to visit and worth the admission fee. Even though you're in town, next to the freeway and busy streets around, you still feel a sense of relaxation and calm while connecting with nature and admiring the vast collection of trees and plants. My youngest (3rd) enjoys jumping off the concrete benches and mastering the playground (which is more elaborate than the usual city park playgrounds around town).
