I came here to get my staples removed. This place was very easy to find. It was in the department that did my surgery, Did you know that Oakland Medical Center is a major cancer treatment center? People come from all over for treatment. But I came here, signing in was fast enough and I waited. Unfortunately, they don't use a numbing cream for staple removal and I'm a baby when it comes to pain. Only six of the staples hurt while they were being removed. The doctors from my department were all fantastic as well and I was hoping to see them. I was grateful to meet Nurse Robyn and I know that she was as careful as she could be when removing the staples. I really love their communication and them actually listening to me and what I was saying, and more importantly, that they believed me. It's hard to trust someone who insists on telling me what I'm feeling and what's going on in my body. I appreciate the agency that I had here to speak my truth and be heard. It really helped in the healing from a major surgery. read more

I walked in to the building thinking if I was in a hotel. As I walked into the entrance, there's the information desk. I walked down the hallway, there's a cafe to the right and there's a garden to the left. It makes me feel very comfortable. It doesn't feel nor smell like a hospital. This building is pretty tall. My family was on the 9th floor, what a beautiful view from the patient room. Parking is free for the first two hours and $1 for each 30 min thereafter. I came in a Friday, they had a farmers market right outside the entrance. I was surprised the care was also pretty good. Translation services were on point. They had an iPad in his room, they use that to communicate with him as needed. Charging station available by the lobby elevators. That's pretty thoughtful! read more

LIES... KAISER does not care for members Wellness! False TV advertisement! I'm so mad! My husband is obese, and I had him go to Kaiser for weight loss suggestions and a wellness check. This was in the summer of 2024 when Kaiser knew that there was another alternative (semaglutide injections). I participated in the Kaiser Weightloss program, which is not covered by Kaiser, at the cost of $1,000-3,000 out of pocket, for the six-month program. With poor results and starvation. Their weight loss program does not reflect any progress. My husband's joint problem is very painful, and he's unable to move much due to the pain, so exercising is out of the question. We don't own a pool, so swimming is impossible too. For this type of patient, weight loss injections should have been suggested to him as an option when he visited his doctor in the summer of 2024. I was notified that Kaiser would not cover these injections after Dec 2024. Once the public is made aware of the new medication available through private company's profiting offers, to which they've invested heavily. So, in summary, this is another scamming opportunity for Kiaser to make more money and not offer their subscribers the latest medications known to them. Ro is also a scam, the TV offer is just for the subscription, not the medication, their cost is $1,000-$1500.00/mo. read more

Ridiculous to make an appointment with any physician in Kaiser. Referrals are impossible. I was with Anthem going to John Muir in Berkeley and decided to go to Kaiser this year (2024). BIG MISTAKE!!!! I am definitely going back to John Muir - where appointments are easier and out-of-pocket is reasonable - no additional fee for mammograms, blood test, etc. Kaiser charges you on everything (I guess depending on your coverage), but the charges are ridiculous. Never had to pay such with John Muir. Everything with Kaiser is difficult - appointments, referrals, prescriptions, etc. I hate it that I got carried away by their advertisements. And I regret the decision to go with them everyday, specially with my on-going issues this year. read more

I have to give Kaiser Oakland Medical Hospital a well deserved 5 star review despite what I read in Yelp and other reviews. First off, my Kaiser spinal injection Doctor, Dr Dutta was first to recognize how serious my spine eaves were being cutoff by the internal stenosis via a video call on August 2, 2023. She told me to drop everything and proceed to Oakland Medical Hospital and go to the ER to be admitted as she will arrange the internal call procedure for admission. She saved my life, respectively because everyone else thought I just had severe arthritis in my hips. However 2 days later, I was admitted into the Oakland hospital via ER, had an emergency MRI in depth, and they found my Spine with its curvature was being constricted to a point of leg paralysis on one side. Next thing, I learn is there are super caring nurses in the ER and on the 8th floor for post surgical patient. Dr Huang and team did the surgery on my spine and had me in surgery for about 6-8 hours. I may look like a Frankenstein body all sutured up along my 18-inch scar and fused my spine with 2 titanium bars and 12 screws. Surgery on a Friday 8am and discharged on Monday afternoon. My poor spouse had to now take care of me 24/7 but the nursing staff on the 8th floor were exemplary and knew all their names. I sent them a large bouquet of flowers and chocolates as a post -surgical thank you gift for taking excellent care of me, 24/7. A big shout out to Dr Huang and his PA staff as they were were all top notch in taking care of me. One PT staff member who forced me to rehab after a day post surgery (Cheryl), she is a pistol in not taking any crap from me and her A-type personality kept me in stitches, literally. Overall, 5 stars in ER, Nurses, Surgeons, Doctors and PT were all best in class of dedicated medical personnel. Kudos.. Kaiser Oakland Spinal team. read more

I came in for a CT scan appointment yesterday. Amazing staff: Shari, Meetel, Maria... and a few others I failed to remember their first names (I am so sorry!) They treated me with common courtesy and human dignity. The procedure was precise and swift. I read all the reviews about this facility before I arrived. Kaiser is not perfect, but who is? I am sure there are a few staff members that are not conforming to the new Kaiser culture, and cause a bad experience on some patients. But it can happen in any institutions. Dr. Giacalone was kind enough to call and follow up on my situation. That is the human touch I cherish most in my recovery journey from cancer. This was my first visit to Kaiser since COVID. I was impressed with how everything was handled for safety precautions. The chairs in the waiting area are marked to maintain distance from other patients. My only complaint is the parking area. I think it would be decent if Kaiser relaxed parking fee rules so we didn't need to take out our credit cards and deal with the non-cash vending machines to get tickets validated. read more

The dermatology department is badly managed. Nurse practitioners practice dermatology on patients. There is no qualification/certification for nurse practitioners to treat you in dermatology and perform dermatological procedures. So who knows how much your NP knows. There are board certified dermatologists but appointments with them are preciously guarded. It does not make sense to have NPs doing the same work as highly trained, board certified in dermatology medical doctors. So I just go to my private dermatologist where I pay out of pocket. She does skin checks where you undress & she looks you over. I can't risk not having skin checks as everyone in my family has skin cancer. At Kaiser, it's only if you mention a problem that anyone looks. There is no skin check. Patients may not know what to look for or be unable to see the rest of themselves. It's really a disservice. read more

I've been a Kaiser member for ten years. Most of the medical professionals are truly great. But customer service and administration are an atrocity. You'll wait on hold for 30 minutes for a simple question. Sometimes the phone tree will hang up on you after you've tried to get through to the right department for a few minutes. Online script refills are very convenient. Except when they don't actually send the refill. Twice. Will the third time be the charm? It will be fun to find out because getting the actual medicine I need isn't important. You might do better going to Highland and free clinics for health care. Tough call. read more

Forced to visit E.R. for blood pressure check because Kaiser doesn't offer Urgent Care. Technician took my blood pressure and then announced to the entire population sitting in the waiting room that my BP was "really high," and "sweetie, you have a-fib." Wrong at so many levels. Let's start with him calling me "sweetie," then violating HIPPA regs by shouting out a diagnosis, and finally, making a diagnosis that only a physician should make. And he was wrong. This caused me embarrassment and needless anxiety. I'm leaving Kaiser during the upcoming open enrollment period. read more

STAY FAR AWAY, occupational health care here is dismal at best. If you want to make a timely recovery with adequate, compassionate care go elsewhere. Don't believe a single 5 star review about Kaiser's occupational health or their physical therapy department. I've used their service three times and it's low quality. The PT department caters to workers comp and often writes inaccurate reports. The doctors are not in it to help injured workers, they also cater to workers comp, their biggest clients. I've also found there is a dysfunctional state regarding client, doctor interactions. If you're injured and in pain you will stay that way until you go outside of Kaiser for a second opinion , which i did and am now receiving compassionate, adequate care. I plan on leaving Kaiser for good, over 25 years of discrimination from Kaiser doctors and practitioners. Not a good place for African Americans. read more

It's hard to get actual care. I always have to have a friend with me to get taken seriously, and they don't always allow someone else in the room. The doctors are almost always polite, but I noticed a stark difference in care once I started having someone accompany me. Suddenly, I was asked more questions, ordered more tests, and not just diagnosed with "pain" and essentially just told to deal with it. Doctors don't always follow up. Appointments can be hard to get, and I once had an appointment canceled without any notification, so I showed up, but my doctor didn't (online appointment). I was told that I never showed up and it was my fault. I filed a complaint, they called the wrong number. I called back and was told they were busy and I'd get a call back, which I never did, so I suspect they called the wrong number again despite my telling them explicitly my number, which was on file. My friend gets better, more thorough, faster, and cheaper care through public health centers. read more

Date: 1/19/2016 Time: 11:24 AM 58° Rain Not exactly where I want to be due to the rainy weather, but I have a doctor's appointment with a dermatologist this morning at 11:30 AM. I rather be at home watching the replay of the Warriors v. Cleveland game from yesterday. This office building is located across the street from the old Kaiser Hospital facility of 280 W. MacArthur. It is a relatively new building. The lab is on the first floor. The doctor I am seeing is on the 4th floor. The ambiances of these new Kaiser facilities are modern and vibrant. I can only speculate that they want the images of these facilities to look patient-friendly and we're not to stress while waiting to see the doctor. If the wait is longer than anticipated, which has happened to me in the past, I have this saying, "we patients must exercise patience." I never told the doctors that, but I can just imagine there would be a few chuckles on that comment. The employees I have encountered are nice. I did not have to wait long to get examined by the doctor and her colleague. She was helpful and understanding. After the exam, she mentioned that a telephone call would be forthcoming for a follow up medical appointment in the near future. For this visit, I was in and out of there within an hour. I was so glad to get out of there to head home that I did not get to check out Sprout's Market on 30th & Broadway, several blocks away from the hospital. read more

I've been a Kaiser member for a very long time. What I love is convenient medical services. I was with my Primary Physician for over 20 years and we had an amazing health partnership. Unfortunately, she transferred to an out of state Kaiser. I had to find a replacement didn't have a medium age of 30. I need a professional who listens without knowing EVERYTHING. I rarely go to a doctor but when I do, you better have an open mind and not driven by profitability (This ain't your daddy's company!) What I don't like is the fact that most of their new hires are fresh out the oven docs with little professional experience. I need a seasoned professional to address my health & partner with me on my future health plans. And please, stop taking my weight each time I come in! I know my weight and it's where I feel it should be. Their HSA plan is whacked and driven by you paying that $3,K deductible. Ridiculous!! read more

The one star rating is strictly about my mammogram experience at Kaiser Oakland location. A completely horrible experience from start to finish. As soon as I walked into the room, the technician without addressing me just said take off your clothes and step over to the machine. Every single thing she said to me was a command. There was zero bed side manner, zero attempt to make it even a humane experience. When I asked for a gown because there's none in the room, she returned and threw it onto the chair without knocking the door or letting me know there's finally a gown available. And when i thanked her at the end she just walked out, again without a single word! At that point I'm guessing she was just mad that I even dared to ask her for something as basic as a gown! So obviously I wanted to talk to someone (which I did) because this was NOT my first horrible mammogram experience at Kaiser Oakland. I've had the same procedure done at least fours times, all technicians with zero bed side manner and some downright rude. The same kind of just wanted to get the job done fast, assembly line mentality. Megan Elliot the department head of Mammography immediately wanted to put all the blame on the technician...but the decision to hire people like that was her's! The decision to not provide a gown unless you ask and then to be made to feel like you're asking them a favor was also ALL her's and Kaiser's!! I've had mammogram procedures done at both Kaiser and UCSF and the difference is Night and Day!! And it's not because of UCSF's more medically and technologically advanced facilities but their way of treating patients like humans, not ANIMALS!!! read more

I realized that Kaiser Oakland is better than Kaiser in other locations. I waited 45 minutes at Fremont Kaiser and had to leave before I took my tests due to the over crowding and disorganization in the lab. Kaiser Oakland also has more friendly people. I so appreciate the email reminders for standard things like blood pressure checks. I also enjoy the ability to make my appointment on line directed to the right area, with reminders and the address and suite number clearly called out (since this is a big place). I appreciate the parking and that for quick things I usually am not parked long enough to even pay. I get why some may feel like they are treated a number but in an integrated system like this, efficiency is important, but I find if I treat the person treating me like a human I get the same thing back. read more

I am very disappointed with the how the Health Education classes are set- up. It seems that Kaiser is intentionally excluding certain members while allowing others to participate. It seems that on-line participation in Health Education classes requires a Google app- that is not available to iPad users. I feel very strongly that it's an unnecessary burden for Kaiser members to have to adopt and download special Google apps in order to participate in virtual support groups. Zoom is the standard used by Kaiser in their MyDoctor application. I avoid uploadIng any product where my personal information may be misused. Google in famous for not caring about customers' privacy and I will avoid using As a result of the class not being available by phone, in person, or by Zoom, I am unable to participate in an important class Directly related to my overall health. read more

I was so frustrated at the circumstances that had left to me being too late for the appointment I really hoping to have. I visited this Lab because they are open on Saturday. I stopped around 1 p.m. on 2/10/2024 was greeted warmly by Lisa Murphy who was wonderful! She was patient, kind, and infomative. She gave me directions on how to seamlessly complete both my blood test and urine test seamlessly during the same visit (I didn't know that a urine test had been ordered for me by one of my specialist doctors but Lisa informed me of this.) Lisa is obviously well-trained on using her desktop resources. Lisa is terrific at her job and scores an A+ for customer service and professionalism, all wrapped around a warm heart. I had been a little confused when tring to make an appointment for the lab on the KP.org website. After selecting 3701 Broadway as my desired choice for the lab, I got a big column of times to choose from and they all said "OAK LAB TECH BMOB" I had no idea what that all meant. Later I asked Lisa, and she informed me that BMOB stood for Broadway Medical Office Building and that refers to the 3701 location. Not surprisingly, Lisa knew exactly what I was talking about and was able to clarify for me and reassure me that this the right thing to be viewing on the website for making a lab appointment at the 3701 building. I had a lab appointment scheduled for my seven month old in the Mosswood pediatric building. When I arrived a few minutes before the scheduled appointment no one was there. I asked a security guard and several receptionists in other departments and also called Kaiser but no one knew why the lab was closed, though all of these staff members were helpful and empathetic. By this point my baby was screaming, and he hadn't even had a blood draw yet! In the end I had to go to the Kaiser hospital lab, which I was pretty upset about (given Covid I didn't want to take my unmasked baby in the hospital), and once I was there I had to wait another 30 mins with my very upset baby, although I explained the situation to the receptionist. Overall it was very frustrating that a scheduled appointment that should have taken 10 mins ended up taking over an hour to resolve and put myself and my baby at additional risk of Covid exposure. To be clear, this is just a negative review of this experience. I have had positive experiences with the doctors and staff at Kaiser on other occasions. Kaiser seems a bit disorganized at the moment. read more

On August 12, 2020 I went to the Kaiser Lab to do my blood work. When I got there, the doctor put the lab slip in. The lab tech said they tested my cholesterol, blood glucose, A1C, kidney function, thyroid, etc. I was shocked I had to pay a co-pay after my co-pay was free. However the station was available and I went back in. The lab nurse drew my blood and I was out of there in a few minutes!!!. The doctor called about 3 weeks later and said my blood test came back good. The only thing was that my HDL was a little low but other than that its all good!!! read more

Kaiser pediatrics has always done well by my two boys. Dr Cunningham is our doctor and she has an efficient and thoughtful approach to either giving them a clean bill of health but also diagnosing their occasional ailments. Recently my 16 yo, Stretch, had a sports/ annual physical. We called for said spot about two days before school started because my slacker mom thing was in full force. We were seen by a resident physician who examined and interviewed him for at least 20 minutes. She became familiar with him by more or less gaining clarity to EVERYTHING in his chart for the last four years. I was so impressed because she could have just as easily cleared him but she took the time to develop a good patient/ Doctor relationship. $280/mo for insurance that covers nothing at all. Was billed the full $780 for lab tests ordered by a doctor. No warning was given about the price. Not that it should matter because this kind of stuff should be covered by any insurance company, but of course we let these guys get away with charging whatever the hell they want. Worse yet, the doctor said there was nothing wrong with me despite recurring symptoms. Had to go to a specialist outside the Kaiser system to get the help I needed. $780 to be told everything is fine when it wasn't. These people aren't interested in healing. They're crooks out for you money in an industry where it's so easy to have a monopoly. read more

I never got my records transferred over because that system is disorganized and should be condemned. If you only need some minor meds and are reasonably healthy then Kaiser works well. I don't have much confidence in their specialists though. One plus is that they are on the cutting edge of technology. I was able contact my doctors via video conference and email despite being overseas (with a huge time difference). read more

The 3rd floor Blood pressure clinic should be a quick and simple appointment. Instead, it turns into a thirty minute event as staff make me wait as they figure out how to read old emails between my doctor and me. Apparently no one changed my dosage on my pills, and staff didn't know. I told them I received instructions from my doctor in an email. They wanted to see for themselves, but I had to sit there while they figure out how to read my email. read more
