absolutely do not bring your loved ones here. doctors are literally just lazy and gives off the energy that they are only there for a paycheck. my mom has chronic severe spinal stenosis that limits her mobility, and they refuse to sign her disability paperwork, stating that "most of their patients also have back pain and they can not fill out forms for everyone." HOW UNPROFESSIONAL IS THAT? why would you say that?? they would only offer short term disability and stated preemptively that they will not renew due to the amount of work it takes. multiple professionals i've consulted have told me that she should file for disability. only barrier is the lazy doctors here not signing the form because it's too much work. BOO!!! such a shame because this was where i went for a very long time as well, as a kid. as long as i have the option to, i will NOT ever return. quality has gone so downhill. read more

My family experienced a lot of prejudice here. I did not enjoy going in for the same issue more than 4 times with no real tests ran and no official diagnosis. And I noticed that when I took my children for examinations we were not only dismissed, but I also noticed that there were no physical exams conducted. Gave clinic a call for my father who was a former patient, spoke to 2 front desk employees who informed us to give a call back within 2 hours to schedule an appointment. Gave a call back the last time and was informed that my father was unable to be seen in clinic and no longer will be able to receive care at Asian health services. My question was if my father needed to see a provider how would he need to be seen? They said that he needs to be an established patient to be seen by a provider. Ok that's understood but HOW can we make him an established patient ONCE AGAIN if you are not allowing him to be seen? Review for covid testing located at Madison and 9th. I booked the appt for Fri, 11am. When I took my parents, there was no wait. Park was fairly easy to find and two large canopies. They provided a barcode for results and said two to three days. It's now Monday at 9:23 pm... no results yet. I wouldn't come here if you need results quickly. My husband and I got tested and got results the next day. I chose this since it was in Chinatown for my parents & thought they may be more comfortable since the attendant spoke some Cantonese. If I ever needed another covid test I will definitely go elsewhere. *** 09/21- shaking my head.. still no results. I called the hotline number and representative said it would be released sometime today. I would not use them again. read more

This review is just for their COVID testing services that they have been offering at Madison Park. Even though it's not the nicest park, they made use of the outdoor space. Go get some dim sum after and support Chinatown businesses! It's very accessible and there is a security guard around (since there may be a few shady characters hanging around). It's an efficient situation: 1) sign up online for a test, 2) check in with your ID at station 1, 3) keep your ID out for station 2 and then face sideways, pulling your mask down to expose your nose as they do the swab! The front desk staff mean well but need more training. I like my doctor Tiffany Chen can't use AHS anymore because they are unaccommodating. My suggestions are more staff training on MyChart, Customer Service, and SDI. Also, to embrace technology. Mychart issues: The staff told me to call can't 510735-3222. The phone number does not give the Mychart help option. The front desk gave me the wrong access code info and asked me to contact Lillian Quahian for help without telling me how. In my opinion, the front desk customer service does more harm than good. It hard to schedule none same day appointment . AHS is more of a clinic than a hospital. read more

I typically go to this clinic for the free COVID vaccines. It's very simple to make an appointment, either you call ahead or make appt in person. There's typically a line to get the COVID booster shot. You stand on the social distance line, wait until your turn to enter the vaccination room w nurses. The desk receptionists will vaccine stamp your vaccine card then you'll be called to one of the friendly nurses to get the shot. After the shot, you're asked to wait 15min in the waiting room to observe the vaccine side effects then you'll be good to go. It was a very fast and efficient process. This review is for the DENTAL clinic. It's literally a sh*t show. I have been waiting 7 months for my crown, I finally received a call saying that I was approved but now I have to wait 3-4 months?! Wtf, what was waiting 7 months for? Might as well let my tooth fall off before I get seen by them. And to make it worse, the older female dental assistants are f**king rude. Like learn to smile for once in your life. Jesus, are you that miserable at your job? And don't get me started on the female receptionists, they're rude too. And they get mad when you ask them to repeat themselves cause you CAN'T UNDERSTAND THEM. I'm so over this place and their lack of friendliness and getting their clients in that have been waiting almost a damn year!!! If you get this place for medical insurance, RUN. This is a despicable doctors group. Send your child to a pediatrician that cares about kids. My son has bronchitis and we made an appointment for 12pm. We arrived at 12:08pm because parking and traffic are horrible. After trying to check in for 10mins they eventually refused to see my 4 year old son and lied that we were 12 mins late and per their policy they don't see patients who are greater than 10 mins late. Basically they prioritized taking an early lunch rather than treating a 4 year old patient. They said I could take him to the ER if I was worried about him. Doctors who refuse to treat toddlers shouldn't be allowed to practice medicine. Go anywhere else. read more

Despite hearing alot of issues with Asian Health, I recently switch both of my elderly parents over and got Dr. Alisa Takeda as their PCP. And let me just say that she is the best doctor always making sure my parents have all of their medications. She goes above and beyond and always making sure that my parents get all the necessary bloodworks and specialist that they need. I'm very grateful that her panel was open and my parents were able to be her patients. Before going to Asian Health, they went to a small clinic in Oakland and had a Vietnamese doctor who was not only careless but incompetent. And as a result of him not caring about my dad, he end up getting a stroke last year. Ever since that, I made the most important decision to switch my parents and I am so happy I did. Dr. Takeda is a great doctor so if you do have Asian health, definitely see if she is accepting patients. read more

After my father lost his insurance, I could no longer afford to see my family doctor. I started coming here during my college years up until a few years ago. When I became insured through the school district, I continued to receive treatment here even though I was also paying for Kaiser. I love my doctor (Dr. Jenny Riley) so much that I never wanted to leave until Dr. Riley found out that I had Kaiser insurance (that's when when she cancelled my Asian Health Service membership). Before Dr. Riley, I was seeing Dr. Sophia Wong. Dr. Wong eventually left AHS to help the sick kids in Africa. Dr. Riley and Dr. Wong are genuinely friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. Dr. Riley treated me for pneumonia a few years back. Without her help, I would probably be dead right now. I knocked off a star because there were a couple of times when I experienced some unprofessional behavior. A long time ago, when I was getting a refill for a medication, I heard one of the nurses say something negative in Cantonese. Because I spoke English, she probably didn't realize that I also understood Chinese. This actually came up in conversation when I was speaking to one of the social workers. The social worker told me that she would report this incident to her supervisor. In addition, before they assigned me to my primary care doctor, I was seeing this lady called Donna Ting. I forget if she was a nurse or doctor, but all I know is that she yelled at me when she testing me for strep throat. I hope she doesn't work here anymore. Compared to Kaiser, AHS provides the most basic medical services (they don't have physical therapy). However, the care I received from Dr. Riley surpasses the care I am receiving from the Kaiser doctors. AHS is an asset to the Asian community. read more

First, I called to ask a question, whether I can see a specialist without a referral. The lady answered the phone was only interested in signing me up as a member. I kept asking the same question as I did not want to commit to be a member before getting an answer and she insisted that she cannot answer me any question without signing me up. I tried to call again another day to get a different person. Once again, my question was not answered and instead they were asking me for my information. I provided my name and member ID thinking they needed that to look up the answer to my question. As they were asking more and more questions that was unrelated to my inquiry, I told them I would just call back. I never agreed to sign up as a member, nor committed to anything. My question remained unanswered. A couple weeks ago, I received a Medi Cal card saying my PCP is with Asian Health Services and they assigned me a doctor to be my PCP without my consent! I never agreed to have their doctor to be my PCP. They forcefully used my information for another purpose instead of answering my question. They used my info to sign up and assign me a PCP without my knowledge nor my consent! I myself actually already have made an appt with my a doctor that I waited 2 months to see and Medi Cal is now telling me that I would have to change that appt to after the first of the month for the new PCP to be in effect. That means, unless I go see the doctor that Asian Health Services fraudulently signed me up for, or I would have to wait another 2 months for an appt from the PCP I originally wanted to see. I don't know if they always operate this way to force people to use their doctors as their PCP but I will escalate this to Medi Cal. read more

I've been receiving health care here for about 2 years now, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. My PCP (Dr. Takeda) is amazing. Unlike previous doctors who dismissed my concerns, she listened to me explain what I was experiencing carefully. Because she was such a good listener, she got me the blood tests that finally diagnosed my ailment and I've been receiving treatment for a little over a year with significant improvement. I feel like I can ask any questions about health and she is great at explaining how I can take better care of my health. My PCP went above and beyond to help me, and I can genuinely say I'm in better health than when I first arrived. Now I'm moving, and I'm sad to say goodbye to AHS! The nurses and receptionists I've encountered are friendly and competent. I know for folks who don't speak Asian languages, the tones can sometimes sound harsh, as if they're berating you, but I assure you that for the most part, this is just how the languages are spoken, they're tonal and guttural. I like that I'm usually able to get through on the phone without being on hold for more than 30 minutes, and I've never had to wait more than 30 minutes for my appointments. My mom said that her social worker gave her some papers for her doctor to sign, and she wouldn't sign it. How the hell are you a doctor but can't acknowledge others who are there to get service from you. If it was you or your family and you wanted help and isn't able to you'd feel the same way as my mother would. You're a sick doctor for telling my mother that there is nothing wrong with her. I have mostly seen two doctors, Dr. Tran and Dr. Fong, but everyone else here I've come in contact with, from nurses to a social worker to administrative staff, has been conscientious and competent. I would not advise anyone to go to this clinic. Before expressing my negative opinions towards this clinic, I would like to say that there are staff members that do work hard and doctors that do care (such as Sue Chan). However, I find that most of the other physicians and staff do not truly care about their patients and lack the ability to communicate effectively with them. It is true that this clinic offers multilingual services to their patients, but what good does that do when the workers do not simply care about the health of the people? When my mother was pregnant with my younger brother, she almost lost him because of the physician at Asian Health Services. She was experiencing some pain and had decided to see the doctor. She went to AHS several times, but the doctor assured her it was nothing and even screamed at my mom saying, "Are you the doctor or am I?" Luckily, my parents went to the Highland Emergency room and the doctor told my mother to immediately stop everything she was doing and to rest until she had to deliver the baby. The ER doctor from Highland also called AHS family doctor and told her she was wrong. Not long after, that doctor left Asian Health Services. Even in present day, the doctors there do not seem to truly understand the needs of their patients. It is a shame that these "physicians" and health staff members are considered qualified to serve the community. These people may have obtained a higher educational degree and gone through professional health residency, but what good is that when it is not used to benefit the patients? With that said, I would like to leave a quote from a book written about education. If any of the staff members at AHS happened to read my review, perhaps it will shed some light and guide you to make some changes to your clinic. The organization here has drastically improved, and I have a new doctor now since I'm 21. My new doctor is a woman named Nancy, and she was so understanding and helpful towards what my body needs. The RECEPTIONISTS and NURSES ( not the medical assistants) are super rude! When I try to make an appointment to see the doctor, the receptionist would ask me questions that are beyond personal.... I really do not feel comfortable telling the receptionist my problems because i feel like they cant help me anyways ... Theyre not doctors plus they ALWAYS transfer me from one line to another and so on. So basically the whole entire Office knows about my problem and why I need to see a doctor. After telling the receptionist my problem, she transfer me to speak to a nurse instead of seeing a doctor because she thinks it's not a big issue and i can save an open appointment for other patients who REALLY needs it. Spoke to the nurse and she was super rude! Tends to say random things that was not related to my problems so I can get of the phone with her. And when I try to ask her a question... She would say something else completely ignoring my question. She was no help at all!! She would constantly say mmm uh huh mm hmm and say well okay yeah yeah and expect me to hang up or something ... I do not see the point of talking to the nurse, she was no help and it just angers me that she was making the problem like it was my fault and it was normal Bottom line : doctors are nice ... I came with a friend to this community-based health organiztion for assistance to help her obtain needed medical insurance and medical care. The friend needed this assistance because she could not obtain medical insurance at the work place. Because this oganization is one I am familiar with in the area offering community based care, I suggested them and came along to see if I could help. The wait took a while at thefor the reception When it was her turn to speak to the receptionist, they were able to help her with a follow-up appointment to help her sign-up for medical insurance and to enroll her to receive care at the clinic near her home. I prefer to give no star at all. The medical record department is the worst. My parents have requested their medical records since June 2018, but their medical records are still not transferred to their new doctors. I confirmed with my parents' new doctor that "the Asian health medical record department person said they don't have time to transfer the information." I called more than 10 times to ask for their medical records. They said they never received the request. After my father went there from Tracy to fill out the release medical history form, they are still not delivered to my father's doctor. When I asked, can a patient to have their own medical record? The reply is yes, but I need to go there to pay the deposit $10 first. I have to wait 2 more weeks to drive over there again to get the physical copies. They charge $.01 per page they print out because it requests time and labor to do so. I cannot get the record right away. Can someone tell me how long it takes to print it out? "Just find my father's name and day of brith from the computer and hit the print button." If you decide to stay with the clinic, it is ok. However, if you move to a new clinic, it is hard for everyone to get the medical record. Being one of the East Bay clinic to service Asian community, you should be better than that. AHS offered tremendous help to my mom who suffers from Anxiety and Depression. She lived in China a long time and doesn't have insurance, but she wasn't turned away. I come here often with my mom to take care of her health needs. She is getting old and requires to see her doctor more often. She has an excellent doctor who she sees for the past 10 years. The wait to see her is painful. Our visits normally range from 2 to 3 hours minimum. It is normally spent waiting. We come here with an appointment and they are never on time. However, the flipside is when we see her doctor, her dr never rushes the visits. Every questions are answered thoroughly by her doctor. Her doctor is patient and speaks to my mom with the up most respect. Nothing is too small or too big to address to her doctor. My mom is much more comfortable with her doctor than scheduling her next appt with the receptionist or nurses. Most of the times, she is intimated by them. However, I have never experienced any rudeness towards me but witnessed shortness of patience by the receptionists. The nurses are quite helpful on the phone when i call or when they CALL ME. I'm sure it's because i speak English and they respond back more politely whereas if I spoke Chinese and 82 years old it might be different. Not sure why they would treat people differently. ASH needs to seriously improve on the wait time for their patients. They are opening another location about a block away so hopefully it will help the over crowding and give the nurses and receptionist a breather. It might put them in a better mood. Even the wait to set up a follow up appointment is at least another 15 to 30 minute. I'm writing this review as I'm sitting with my mom waiting for her to be seen. Dr An Tran at the Asian Health Services Clinic should not be a doctor and have her license revoked. I am in the health care field myself, people like her made me get into the health field in order to truly make a difference in patients lives since she is not doing her job. My mother is currently her patient with a history of cancer and currently in remission. A prior MD told my mom it was of no concern when she addressed her concerns of pain she was having and sent her home with over the counter meds. She felt so sick after even with the meds, I ended up taking her to ER. They did a CT and seen an abnormal mass in her colon and did a biopsy, cancer stage 2. If the MD would have LISTEN to her, he could have sent her to a specialist and a imaging order could've detected the cancer. But he failed to do his job. This was 7 years ago. I am now in the medical imaging field working for a trauma hospital. Today November 2017, Dr Tran is in care of my mother. My mother have been seeing her for a lump she feels and post menopausal bleeding. I know these diagnosis needs a ultrasound order to look for any abnormalities in her pelvis area (it's a safer alternative than CT). So I called the office to demand an ultrasound order. Instead, they kept making appts for my mom to come back for the same reasons and NO referrals to a OBGYN or imaging orders whatsoever! Now I'm livid, so I had my mother put Dr. Tran on the phone. This Doctor has the nerves to argue with me about my mothers care and refuse to give her a ultrasound!!!! I don't know what her problem is and why it's so difficult for her to just give my mother what she needs to move forward in her care!!!! This first step to being a successful MD is listening to your patients concerns! Instead she tells me my mother has been complaining about the same things for the last "5 years" and it's all in her head. Well if she's complaining about it then why don't you let her get a Pelvic Ultrasound to see what the concerns are!!!!! On top of that she was insulting my mothers intellegence and saying my mother didn't know the difference between her vagina and urethral and where the blood was coming from. Well every doctor knows that MOST patients doesn't have medical education like we do and they don't know the difference!!!! It's the Doctor's job to figure out the diagnosis!!!! Give her a urine test and see if she has hematuria to rule out the vaginal bleeding but also send her for an ultrasound to cover all basis! Why is that so difficult???? Well after Dr Tran got off the phone with me she then ask my mother for a urine test and my mother DOES have hematuria. And she did not send my mother home with antibiotics or even refer her to a urologist! This is gross hematuria, it should be of concern!!!!! She then finally gives my mom the ultrasound order after i demanded it. We just did her ultrasound tonight at the hospital and there is a positive finding where my mom has been complaining for "5 years". Hence, I am disgusted by Dr Tran's unprofessional behavior and her lack of care for her patients. I am going to reach out the director of this clinic and all public reviews. Everyone needs to know what a terrible doctor she is. And she needs a reality check and get back to being humble and kind to do her job and LISTEN to her patients concerns instead of ignoring them. If she's unhappy with her job then please do all of us a favor and quit. You're hurting more patients than helping them. You are a SHAME to the medical field. read more
