Had the worst experience at the ER last night. Waited 5 hours while being severely dehydrated, ugly crying and throwing up in the Kaiser ER bathroom multiple times. And not one nurse asked me if I was okay while all this was happening. They wouldn't even offer me water to try to rehydrate myself. Finally after waiting several hours in pure misery, and I had enough, I asked a nurse if I can have a pillow and she rolled her eyes at me and told me I needed to wear a mask. I told her that I couldn't stop throwing up and I was going to pass out from dehydration. And you know what her response was? She pointed to the bathroom and the barf bags on the wall and told me there were people there that were sicker than me, and that I needed to continue to wait. She reluctantly gave me a pillow and told me to keep sitting in the waiting room. Throwing up, crying, dry heaving and all. 2 hours after that, I told them I can't take it anymore. All I needed was an IV and some nausea medication. They insisted that "that wasn't going to make me feel better". They tried to say no to the iv because they needed someone to "watch" me. RUFKM? But you're ray charles while I'm dry heaving and ugly crying in your waiting room? And I wouldn't take no for an answer and I started a scene in front of a doctor. So they FINALLY gave me an IV. If that doctor wasn't there, they wouldn't have even helped me. While I understand it was a super busy night at the ER, I cannot understand how these nurses have the amount of audacity they do. The lack of compassion from them was shocking. I wasn't asking for the world, or for dangerous narcotic pain meds. All I wanted was a damn IV to rehydrate myself and some nausea medication that I ALREADY had a prescription for. So they gave me the IV (finally) and had me sit in the waiting room for another 2 hours until they gave me a room. The doctor checked on me and said he was going to get me juice to sip on and that never happened. The nurse said she would get me food to see if I can keep anything down. That didn't happen either. I have had much better experiences at the county hospital in Martinez. Which is shocking. Literally don't go to this hospital. They're worse than the DMV. read more

Horrible experience. I took my 83 year old friend with ALS to this emergency room and spent 8 hours there in a hallway, under a drafty vent, with my friend in a hospital gown. No water. People would just callously pass you by while they laughed and had a good time with their co-workers. I will say that the doctor and one nurse were both kind once you had their attention. But outside of these two, the disregard shown by most of the staff was shocking and appalling. I don't care how busy you are. You can make sure those admitted in and waiting are comfortable. If that is too much then look for another line of work. read more

Update: just took my friend to this hospital's Emergency Department with a kidney stone -- pain was 10/10 and urine was mostly blood (there was really no choice due to my friend's insurance). They failed to take vitals, even when reminded. They collected a urine sample and then didn't do any tests on it. They asked my friend five questions, rolled their eyes at them, prescribed antibiotics (no pain meds), and discharged them. Nice. read more

ER is too small to serve this area. Strange system here unlike other ERs. There are not enough beds and they make you sit on a chair while waiting for tests to be done even if you've been triaged and checked in. If your condition deteriorates or you need something there's no one checking on you at these chair area so you have to go out walking and find a nurse to ask. They really need to make it bigger or open another ER serving the trivalley area of San Ramon, Dublin etc. read more

If you're autistic, avoid this place like the plague. Came here voluntarily because I was suffering from a meltdown and thought this would be the safest option. I honestly would have been better just waiting it out by myself. The mental health professional who spoke to me was EXTREMELY condescending, and refused to listen to me when I tried to explain what led to the meltdown. She was convinced that my involuntary meltdown (and suicidal ideation) was a simple temper tantrum, and that I needed to suck it up and grow up. I know a lot of folks see people on the spectrum as subhuman, but to be treated like that by someone who works in mental health was so demoralizing, when I left I actually felt worse than when I first arrived. read more

Checked my mother(94yrs old) in this morning 8:15am it is now 3:23 pm and haven't seen a doctor (Dr.Smith) since the initial exam at 8:45am. Nurses running around no doctors insight. What the hell do they do here is beyond me. Last June I had my appendix out due to a pain on my right side. They said it should come out. Took their advice and had the procedure. Guess what still have the pain on my side. Went to Martinez Kaiser to follow up with them about possible gall bladder problem I was told that WC Kaiser performed all test and nothing was found. Total Bullshit! If it wasn't for all the free loaders at county I would go back to them. read more

Review #024 - 2017 I showed up to the ER with my mom on Tuesday, Jan. 24th, around 6:30 PM because she was complaining of chest pain. She said her heart was hurting so my first instinct was she must be having a heart attack. Unfortunately, when I called her hospice service, they insisted that I continue to give her morphine for three consecutive hours until her pain disappears. I may not be a health expert, but I did not feel comfortable masking her pain with meds so I ended up driving her to Kaiser Walnut Creek even though it's a lot further than her regular hospital in Martinez. From her last experience with the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, I wasn't willing to put my mom's life in the hands of some crappy doctor again even if I have to pay for her Kaiser visit out of my own pocket. Money can't buy back my mom's life! When I told the admissions nurse that my mom was having chest pain and that she was on hospice, they quickly took her in while I finished filling out her paperwork and financial responsibility forms. The staff members here are great! They all did an excellent job taking care of my mom as quickly as possible. Come to find out, my mom did have a heart attack and Dr. Tran asked me what my goals were in trying to help my mom going forward. Did I want her to stay at the hospital and get monitored for further damage? Did I want them to resuscitate her if her heart stopped beating? Was I willing to put in a stent should she need one and if that wasn't enough, was I willing to put my mom through open-heart surgery? All these questions were the toughest questions for me to answer to in all of my life. I'm so thankful that I didn't actually have to live them because my mom was able to fully recover from her heart attack after they gave her some Advil and pain meds. Mom's nurse, Eric, was the sweetest young man. He made sure that she was well taken care of and as comfortable as possible until his shift ended at midnight. I've never been so grateful to be in the ER, but this Kaiser has definitely made me see a different side of life on two separate occasions. The nurse in her died a long time ago, she might as well be a bot. She informs me that the system won't allow her to make an in person appointment. She informs me to go to an emergency room with 70+ people there currently in waiting room (i called there first) and wait for a f$cking miracle that someone there will be able to give new medication and I won't catch delta. Nasty nasty filthy nasty. I don't think they mop, clean or sanitize the floors and bathrooms at all. The first time I was here in the ER i waited 20 hours for an emergency gall bladder surgery in writhing pain. I was given morpheme and had an allergic reaction so they reversed it with Benadryl but failed to chart the reaction. When another nurse came in she prepared to give me morpheme AGAIN! Had I not been paying attention i wouldn't have been able to tell her about how I had almost stopped breathing the first time. That's when she mentioned that it wasn't noted. After being in the ER 20 hours and having gallbladder surgery they attempted to send me home at 1:00 am right after! I asked that they at least allow me until 7-8 am and they obliged. My second and most recent visit involved an nasty bout with the norovirus and was seen quite promptly. The only complaint was just how filthy everything was. We all know hospitals are filled with germs but you'd hope there be an effort to keep things sanitized and clean. I saw urine and feces stains on the toilets; hair, small debris and stains on the floors. Quite gross. read more

It's hit and miss at any ER, depending on how busy they are and what doctor you happen to get. But my previous and most recent experience at this ER was less than optimal. Once pass the outer triage station, all patients sit in an inner waiting room in hospital gowns together with little privacy, and occasional butt views due to assigned rear-closing gowns. It's as if we are caged and on call as needed when a test becomes available. Many if not most patients get an IV catheter in place so it's there if needed - just like they do test mice. There's little regard for HIPAA as we hear each other's stories and discussions with the rotating staff. A few doctors pull patients aside into some corner or drawing station to discuss matters -- but that's more due to the situation being serious rather than any regard for privacy. Plus a person with a computer on a cart goes around to each party telling them what their co-pay is and asking if they'd like to take care of that now -- and we all hear it all, fumbling in our wallets to pay while half dressed. Then, God forbid, they want you to be admitted because there are often no hospital beds free but one is always "about to become available." That's not remotely true, and discharges don't happen in the middle of the night so people are placed into beds and just parked for hours in corridors, etc. Plus you can just read the whiteboard on which somewhere it is written the number of admits waiting next to the words" hospital full." If electronic monitoring is required you may get a small room but there's only a curtain and you hear all of the ER noise including crying for hours; plus some rooms are very cold. You may be there for 6-24 hours before "that bed" is available. Some random staff person walks in occasionally just when you are about to get a few minutes of sleep to discuss billing, "your walker" even if you don't use one, and other misc. matters that do not need to be addressed at that time if at all. And if you just walk out because you are so miserable you no longer want to endure it, some staff are actually punitive about it. I love when they tell you how serious your condition and that you need to stay but you've just spent that last few years trying to get anyone to listen to you about your symptoms -- and just getting dismissed. Now they care. Sounds like the concern is now liability rather than any real concern. The whole Kaiser HMO system is based on going through your primary care physician but the only way to get a team of experts to look at you is if you're an inpatient. There's no in between and that is the problem. Last, most nurses, some doctors, the pharmacy and diagnostic testing/scanning staff are excellent, efficient, and kind -- as are those who transport you between tests. It's just the whole system that is pitiful. read more

During the smokey day of Sunday Aug. 30th, I guess that I was out in the bad quality air too long and the next morning I developed a serious cough. With COPD, I don't take chances. I called the advice nurse and she was most helpful in calling the hospital and speaking to an ER Doctor who required me to go to the ER to be checked out. To make a long review a little shorter, it was the personnel that made this trip outstanding and in ONE RNurse named Sophie who made 5 hours in an Emergency Room a lot more bearable. Everyone else were doing their job, but Sophie checked on me at the regular intervals which kept me informed of the situation between Dr. Lemon and the testing staff. I applaud the Emergency Room staff and Dr. Lemon for the Great work that they do. RN Sophie was the "Angel" in PPE that got me through the process with little or NO stress and leaving the hospital with a smile on my face. Thank You Kaiser, I'm glad I'm a member. I am complaining for my mom. Mom is 94 and fell I drove her to the er the first shift nurse was nice bandaged moms arm and got her ready for a ctscan They made me wait in the parking lot from 10:45 to 2:25. When mom was ready to be discharged they let me in. The nurse was changing moms diaper and mom couldn't stop pooping after cleaning up for 5 minutes the nurse left mom there for 1 1/2 hours pooping and peeping all over the bed and herself. I asked for help several times they just ignored me. I tried cleaning went through all the supplies she put out. I begged for help they ignored me. Finally she came back and got a diaper on her and wheeled her outside didn't even help get her in the car. Unless you are dying stay away from Kaiser Walnut Creek ER. read more

Okay, let me begin by saying that I've had many great experiences with most of the staff here. However, I think I've personally gotten quite unlucky with my assigned doctor, Hongwei Chen, who seems to have decided that my physical, medical woes are beneath his attention. I've been suffering from what is almost certainly a bacterial infection in my intestines that came with diarrhea and bloody stool for over 3 weeks now. On three separate occasions, I called his office, and each time the only time he offered was another week away. The Kaiser urgent care facility in Dublin recommended that I get a CT scan. Subsequently, I was called by someone who got me an appointment. But when I arrived at the time we agreed on, they did not have approval for the CT scan. A request was sent to Hongwei Chen to approve the scan. He refused. That was 40 minutes later. The kind people at the desk recognized my plight, and they sent me instead to the ER to get the scan that way instead. I'm writing this from the waiting room. (I downloaded this app and wrote this whole thing on my phone in the time it's taken to get seen.) I'm sure the ER doctor will be great, and I'll get the test I need, so I can finally get the antibiotics I'll need to fight this stubborn infection. But it may unfortunately be true that Hongwei Chen is someone you should avoid if you want a doctor who cares about your well-being. read more

We came here for what the doctors thought was apendicitis for one of my girls after speaking with us over the phone. It's been over an hour no one has seen us yet. The last time I was here it took four hours. They are severely understaffed and I understand profit is important but they are creating a huge potential hazard for their patients. It's easy to schedule regular visits but they make it really tough for you to get specialists for serious things and their emergency room is a death trap. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Took my baby to the ER on 12/22/22 because she was having cough attacks due to the flu. They checked her fever and it was 105.3 and she also had low oxygen level and then diagnosed with pneumonia. They put her on oxygen and noticed that she was doing okay on it but still had a fever. Well to make story short, the ER pediatric Doctor came and told us that since we didn't have Kaiser insurance that we had to leave the hospital and go to Jhon Muir or children's hospital in Oakland but if we went there that they might not have a bed for my daughter She kept on saying my baby was doing fine without the oxygen and lied about turning it off when it was actually still on and bubbling. She also said if my baby lasted 10 days with the flu and 3 days with cough attacks then she should be fine at home. We brought my baby home and she suffered all night with cough attacks. I had a terrible experience here it was the worst I had called previously to speak to a nurse early in the morning and I was transferred to a nurse who then asked for my symptoms, told me to go into the ER, and then said she would transfer me to another nurse that could help me because she supposedly said she couldn't help me. I go into the ER shortly after, and this filpino man takes my vital signals and he speaks to me rudely to take a seat. I wait an hour finally I hear my name be called and I stand up to go inside as I was walking the man who came out tells me rudely to go take a seat again and does not assist me while other patients are going in and I was the last one without being helped. The staff was very rude when I asked why I wasn't being helped and did not take my pain seriously at all. The treatment i received was horrendous and unacceptable!! Never ever come here for any emergency they will only waste my time. read more

A word of warning to anyone thinking about a medical career at Kaiser Permanente ... they don't treat their retired physicians as well as they used to. As the husband of a retired Kaiser surgeon, I share my wife's indignation, as expressed in her recent letter to Kaiser Walnut Creek's medical administrators, which I am reprinting below. To whom it may concern: I am responding to this "invitation" to the Annual DSA Physician Recognition Celebration in the manner in which it was sent. This invitation was sent at 4:56 PM on 2/24/20. I responded at 5:30 PM on the same day, after discussing the invitation with my spouse. I immediately received the following response: "Annual DSA Physician Recognition Celebration. We have reached our capacity for the event on March 7th. Thank you." Seriously??? As a group of medical administrators, you have taken it upon yourselves to break with a time-honored tradition and "de-invite" the retired physicians last year, which was both disrespectful, and showed an utter lack of class. Then, several weeks after the event, you issued a feeble apology which stated, "Oh, we're so sorry that we did that." I distinctly remember Dr. Sharon Mowat claim that she made this decision unilaterally, and her "apology for being ageist." She then "promised" to make sure that we (the retired physicians) were included in the Annual DSA Physician Recognition Celebration this year. These invitations are normally sent out to the working physicians in January. Occasionally, there has been a "save the date" sent out earlier. So, to prevent the retired physicians from being included in this year's event, you apparently decided to send out a bogus "invitation" two weeks before the event, so you could have cover for your disingenuous claim that the retired physicians were invited. It's pretty obvious that you already knew that there was no more room at the event when these last-minute invitations were emailed out. As retired physicians, we would all have more respect for you as administrative physicians, if you would simply be honest about what you are doing, and why. It is blatantly obvious that you do not care for, nor respect the physicians that have gone before you. As for myself, I sincerely hope the the "Golden Rule" prevails. I truly hope that when it comes your time to retire, that you are treated with the same disrespect as you have shown the previous generations of senior retired Kaiser Permanente physicians. I hate leaving bad reviews but I've came here with my mom to the emergency and they want to let me in. They made me wait outside and I understand because of Covid reasons but, the security in ER just loves her job too much. I guess. They make family wait outside, but when people get called back into the emergency trauma room they don't disinfect any seats. They don't change blood pressure cuffs, or the pulse ox per patient during checkin. Also, they pack the waiting room with patients trying to check in but, if they were so worried about Covid, they would only have about six people checking in ER at a time and have a line out the door. Another reason why I am frustrated with this emergency room is you can obviously tell my mom was in pain just by the look in her eyes and the way she was standing she had to lean against the front Desk just to hold her self up. You would figure they would offer her wheelchair, right? Well, no, they didn't but a young teenager that came in that could barely walk. They offered him a wheelchair....? I don't like the fact that they have to go into emergency trauma room by their self people are already worried when they go to the doctor they don't like the feeling so I don't understand why one person can't go back with them. The staff at Kaiser Emergency room (Sand Creek, Antioch) in general are mean and insensitive. I brought my son in after a car accident and the nurse's attitude was far from accomodating as they received him. I decided to ignore it, because I was focused on my son. Several months later I took my wife because she was feeling ill. The same insensitive bad attitude received us there again, but with a different nurse. By consistency, I'm driven to the inescapable conclusion that nurses there are just mean and insensitive. I hope the mangers would look into this matter and train them to treat sick people. If management ignores this, it is their fault for this action. read more

The ER registry person is extremely rude. I understand it is very busy and she is stressed out. However telling a patient that is in excruciating pain that is inquiring when they will be seen that "if they don't want to wait they can go home" is insensitive, impersonal and unprofessional. Kaiser used to be great in all respects, but Obamacare dollars have turned their dedication into greed, and the laziness that typically follows the fulfillment of greed is flourishing in the Kaiser E.R. If you're here and undocumented, you'll probably get service far more quickly than a paying Kaiser member because those folks are taken for granted. If you claim you have chest tightness or chest pain, you and everyone who makes the same B.S. claims will go to the front of the line, then you will be taken to a treatment room and you can get whatever service you actually need. The so-called triage nurse is just following a script and waiting for you to claim you have chest pains, so oblige him and you will be given a gold sticker on your forehead, and prompt service. For those of you who are truly ill and don't want to be told to sit down and be quiet, I suggest a cab to John Muir. read more

Too bad the minimum I can give is 1 star. zero would be better. I visited the ER January 11, 2017. I injured my back to the point that I couldn't stand or sit without causing the worst pain I have ever experienced. My wife drove me to the ER. When we arrived, she went in and told them that I was in the car and that I couldn't walk stand or sit. They came out with a wheel chair and explained that I had to foll in on the chair but I would be put n a bed immediately when I got inside. When I got inside, they told me that there was no bed available and that I needed to sit in the chair until one opened up. I started screaming obscenities due to the intense pain and had to lay on the floor of the waiting room to gain some relief. Finally after 10 minutes they brought me in. Dr. Matthew Recktenwald was my attending physician. When he came in I explained that I have a history of back issues, and had injured myself again the night before clearing a drainage line during the winter storm. His response was to tell me that most of the time people show up claiming an injury like mine because they are there seeking opioids, but really have no injury. He proceeded to give me an injection for pain that provided some relief. He declined to order an MRI or refer me to the back clinic despite my requests. He prescribed me additional pain killers. After a few hours, the nurse came in to tell me that if I can walk, I need to leave because they need the bed. Disgusted I left. Ultimately, after 2 weeks and multiple appointments with my primary care physician, I did receive an MRI, and it was determined that I had a herniated disk. I was referred to the back clinic and received a steroid injection after that. I started a slow recovery from there. Several weeks of pain and suffering could have been avoided if the staff at the ER would have done there job. read more
