My requests had been accommodated by a prestigious Opthamology medical provider in San Diego on previous surgeries, and were not unreasonable. The experience with the Opthamology department at KP Vandever was grueling, time consuming, and resulted in my requesting a State Hearing, and the filing of complaints with the State Medical Board against the physicians involved. I'm selecting another medical provider. I cannot recommend eye surgery at the KP Vandever Opthamology department. I recommend the Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego Health Eye Institute at UC San Diego Health.

Unlike many health care providers who I have seen in my life, she really listens to my concerns attentively and respectfully. I feel that she takes a holistic approach to health care and has genuine concern for her patients. I have also been treated by other providers at other Perlman Clinic locations and they have been consistent with their high level of quality health care. Getting a response from Grievance Operations remains an ongoing problem. Despite complaining to…read moremultiple Department managers, Grievance Operations Case Managers still don't return phone calls (or have full voicemail boxes) or respond to registered letters sent via USPS. My last call was with Charlotte Lass in San Diego Member Services Management who said she would follow up on my concerns. Surprise...it's been crickets ever since I spoke with her and sent documentation of all my attempts at reaching them. I've heard of many other people who have experienced the exact same thing...no response from Grievance Operations. I think this is done deliberately so people get discouraged and just stop complaining. If you experience this non-responsiveness, please take all of your documentation and any correspondence they have sent you (as well as a summary of your attempts to contact Grievance Operations) and file a complaint with the CA Department of Managed Health Care. I am leaving Kaiser as a healthcare provider. I have been ill once in years. The one time I get…read moresick I cannot get an appointment. So I went to urgent care. Once in urgent care, they directed me to the emergency room because they said they would need to do a CT Scan and it could only be in the emergency room. The emergency. room experience was not a good one. Six hours of freezing and no food. After, I went to their cafeteria that is horrible to get something hot to warm up and I was scolded and told that I can't leave the emergency room. I was starving. The next day, I was sicker than I was when I went there from getting sick while there. And the truth is the CT Scan isn't in the emergency room or in urgent care. So I was billed over 10grand for an emergency room visit. I paid my deductible before I left and then for 4 months have been faxing the proof that I paid and they keep robocalling me and won't let me alone. Getting anyone on the phone takes more time than driving to the facility. Every time I call the financial department to tell them I paid it they said they need more proof. The receipt that is written by Kaiser isn't good enough. They need my bank records. Then I go to fax it and they keep saying it can't be done. Their patient portal is a mess and they admit they get complaints all the time. The less than 15 minute annual physical exam is not thorough and they keep it to the schedule. In my experience, they are about money not about healthcare. Then I started reading about Kaiser online. My advice is research it before signing up. After my research on Kaiser, I need to find another way other than the Kaiser way.

I love the fact that he doesn't treat me as if I was just another case number but like a person. I really believe that I wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for him. Im a 12x heart surgery 5 of which have been open heart with a history of heart attacks and strokes not to mention on my 3rd pacemaker and afib. I can remember going into the er countless times and surprisingly he was the doc who took care of me in the er when i normally see him in his office on the 2nd floor. He has been there everytime I've faced death whether at kaiser or any other hospital. I remember after my last stroke I couldn't talk and the stroke had paralysis on my whole right side. Once I woke up he was the firs person I saw sitting on my bed and at that point I knew everything else would be ok. There's not enough room for me to write down all that I think of Dr. Keen ( I call him doc ). He is a determined man who really cares and is a good friend to me. Not mention he's allways told me whats happening weather its news i do or don't want to hear. My 6yo son huggs me and thanks Dr Keen for keeping his daddy here. I tell my son that Dr Keen is my ironman. Like I said I can go page after page about Dr Keen and how he's been there for me.

While in a hospital and in the middle of highly stressful and potentially life-threatening situations, having real, accurate and consistent information provided by someone who recognizes you as a person rather than just another case # is unquestionably one of the most important aspects to the already dreaded experience. As if that wasn't weird enough, a few years later, while caring for our son, randomly discontinued his lactalose, despite his ammonia levels being 86 at the time she decided, for no reason, to d/c lactalose while he's at hospital suffering from increased seizures and weakness. I had to alert RN and get lactalose back on board. This delay in treatment was negligent and paired with her prior comment calls into question what the heck kind of doctor this is. Very bizzare.

I am a live-in caregiver for a resilient 92-year-old named Tere. In the past six months we have…read moretaken 5 trips to the ER together. It was finally determined during the last visit, on August 17, that she would need laparoscopic surgery to untwist a knot in her stomach. The operation was a success! Later in the day, Tere's surgeon, Dr. Bartos, briefly spoke with her daughter and son-in-law, assuring them he'd return later to update them as to her condition. We have yet to hear from him. Dr. Bartos scheduled an in-person visit on August 29, not long after Tere returned home, which I thought unwise. Although not an invasive procedure, the surgery left her weak. There was no way I was going schlep her to a hospital in her fragile state. Rather than changing the in-person visit to a phone call, the receptionist pushed the appointment up to 1 pm on September 4. We have yet to hear from him. Tere is old school tough and even she had a great deal of difficulty processing the pain. I've been with her for going on 4 years and it wasn't until this week that I saw her cry. When I spoke to Dr. Bartos' office on the 4th, the receptionist assured me that we would get a callback later in the day. We have yet to hear from him. Tere's daughter is poised to drive her to the ER to see if they won't pitch in and remove the tube from her stomach. Something tells me this will probably require Dr. Bartos' permission. As a surgeon, he got the job done, even though the tube opening in Tere's belly continues to be a calloused source of pain. This review relates to his follow through, not the surgery. As much as I would like to comment on Dr. Bartos' bedside manner, I couldn't pick the guy out of a lineup. It's been 21 days. WE HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM HIM. Epilogue: Tere returns from the ER and the pain continues. It seems that no one, neither nurse nor doctor, informed her or her family that the tube will have to remain in place for at least another 3 months for it to take effect. Stop me if you've heard this one. WE HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM HIM.

Hello Dr Bartos, More than 10 years ago 09/01/2012 my Mother…read morepassed away. 7 days later I was diagnosed with cancer (Stomach and Esophageal). I was 44 at that time. My diagnosis was not good and chances of living was the same. Sept 2012 thru Dec 2012 (sucked) changed my life forever. You saved my life! ...You pushed me to keep going.... Although I did not beat the 14 day hospital recoup record...(I think you made that up)...I only missed it by hours. It did make me realize that I will be fighting every day. It has been more than 10 years and I still am fighting......cancer free! You are an amazing person, Doctor, and awesome surgeon! Life is beautiful..live every day as if it were your last...but hope that there is a tomorrow to do it all again!
