I had an appointment for imaging at Sharp-Rees Stealy in Mira Mesa at 8:15 AM on a Wednesday. My instructions were to arrive by7:55 AM to complete paperwork and check in. I arrived early, around 7:30 and checked in with the young man at the desk and took a seat in the lobby. After 10 minutes or so I was led into the room. I apologize for not remembering their names, but all of the nurses and the technician running the giant imaging machine were all so kind and friendly. The procedure from start to finish took about 15 minutes. As stated, my appointment was originally scheduled for 8:15. I was in my car leaving at 8:15! They got me in early and were so quick and efficient. A really nice experience. read more

I seem to need imaging often. I absolutely love the staff at this location. They are always happy, accommodating and make you feel special. It's scary to take imaging and then the possible outcomes. I have had many ultrasound appointments at this location and have never had a bad experience. From check-in to the technicians, everyone has always been so friendly and patient. Free parking is available in the lot on both sides of the building. Bonus is this location usually has much shorter wait times than the RB location. read more

Dr. Lee and Cynthia were awesome! We joked and we were serious when needed to be! The communication and the caring was above and beyond! Cynthia was understanding and understood the concern I had about the ability of getting in the correct position for my biopsy! Their smiles and genuinely caring are felt enormously! Unfortunately there was one blimp in the visit and that was the receptionist and unfortunately I didn't catch her name, she was in a Halloween costume though. Her greeting was like someone who doesn't like their job..maybe she was having a bad day or something personal happened; but when going for a biopsy or any doctors visit you want to be cared for and feel like they are here for you and unfortunately with her I didn't get that! I've been dreading this day for months, a diagnostic mammogram because "something" was found. This could have been a very scary and sad experience but from the second I walked in this place made my experience and amazing at is could have been. The techs were amazing friendly and gave me so much information. The care they had for my situation and the attention to detail was beyond. If I had known that the experience would have been this way I would have come much much sooner. Dr. Whiteley was nice and attentive at the first doctor visit. She seemed caring during the doctor visit and made referrals to specialists. But the problem may lie in the Sharp administration and gatekeepers. After a while, the messages at the Sharp app are ignored and the appointment wait is 6+ months. Most of the time, I do not even remember my PCP's name anymore because I seldom see her. All I see are the on-call doctor with quicker appointment. I remember his name, Dr H but not my real PCP's name because I get referred to Dr H more for earlier appointments. I see my real PCP like once or twice a year. So, I changed PCP to Dr. G and the same thing happened with ignored messages at the Sharp app, 6+ month wait on appointment and earlier appointments with Physician Assistants this time (the gatekeepers) instead of the real doctor while I pay more than $1000 a month in Sharp Healthcare Plan premium. The messaging on the Sharp app appears to have another layer of gatekeeper admins that prohibit direct messaging with the doctor. I am on waitlist for the PCP appointment but when I respond to a doctor visit opening, the earlier doctor visit opening is already taken one second after I receive the text message. It would be nice if Sharp sends out the survey paper mail with paid postage return envelope for every doctor visit like how they used to do this so I can fill out those surveys rather than giving feedback publicly in an online review. ******** Sharp needs more Primary Care Physicians. Six month wait on a PCP appointment is not acceptable. ******** At one point, I figured I would set up an appointment with the PCP each month, so when I need the doctor, the appointment is already set up and when I do not need the doctor, I can cancel the appointment. But if every patient did this, then the appointment wait will be a year away for those who do not reserve PCP appointments each month. read more

We have very good doctors at Sharp and are very happy with there care. That said, I cannot say the same for the Radiology Dept. My mother who is in excruciating pain and needs guided injections for that pain was told today that the earliest she can get an appoint with radiology is 10 weeks. She is in so much pain, she can barely walk even with her walker. She cannot sleep. Forcing her to wait 10 weeks under those circumstances demonstrates a severe lack of care. read more

They acted like paranoid schizophrenics about coronavirus. First a woman who is supposed to be a medical professional asked me a ton of personal questions about me health with out consent. The doctor was not acting intelligent either. When I told him I was having depression and anxiety about coronavirus, his advice was that there is nothing you can do about the government because they don't listen to people. (In America.) If I could rate negative starts I would rate this place a -5 starts. I'm a EMT and personally what triggers me the most is seeing people getting into the healthcare business for the wrong reasons. I don't care how bad your day is going patient bedside manner should never be compromised. If you don't like your job then have the guts to quit and go find a new one. Everybody there seem to be in their own world and did not give a shit about the patient I was bring in. CT Tec Kimberly B. triggered me so bad I almost snapped at this chick. My patient was the most sweetest old senior citizen you could ever meet, and was scared going into getting a scan. When I went to see if I could make the scan table more comfortable for my patient, Kimberly B. Immediately responded back with the most sass attitude ever saying, "No this is the best we can do". My dude, will it kill you to lay down two blankets on top of the table to provide more cushioning for my patience sensitive back!!!! These people didn't even want to touch the patient when it came down to sheeting over onto the table. Is this really the "Sharp Experience" I would never bring any one of my family members to this place. While I'd never recommend anything that would require a MRI, should you need to get one, this is the place to go. I had the pleasure of meeting Vee and Steven last night for my MRI. I was checked in quickly. Given the correct paper work. The waiting area was quiet and clean. Vee confirmed my ID, my procedure and walked me through everything. She was the sweetest woman. The inner waiting area, is very comfortable, it's quiet, with dimmer lighting, comfy chair and I think even flowers. This allows even the most apprehensive patient to be more at ease. Steven introduced himself. We went over the paperwork. Confirmed the procedure. He explained the mri equipment to me. Made sure I understood it. He is the consummate professional, who loves his work. I have had a few MRIs. I have never had a technician who cared about patients, they way Steven and Vee did. They made sure I had socks, ear plugs, extra ear padding, blankets, helped me up, Vee made sure to tie my gown up just perfect. MRIs are loud. Sometimes you're head is stuck in a kinda tiny tube for 20 minutes or so. Not necessarily on anyone's bucket list of things to do. But, like I said, should you have injured yourself, see the radiation department here. Steve and Vee are great! read more

Most of my reviews mention something about parking. With that said, this lot is HORRIBLE. I arrived just in time for my scheduled appointment but found out upon check in my appointment was getting pushed back 15 minutes. The front desk was great about informing me periodically of the status and even tracked me down while I was killing time wandering around when it was my turn. The technician was very friendly and kept making sure I was okay and explained everything in detail. I was definitely at ease. Chris (the person running the lab this morning) should absolutely not be dealing with patients. Perhaps he has been trained on how to draw blood but he certainly NEEDS training on customer service and how NOT to speak rudely to people in a professional setting, most are also possibly feeling vulnerable or scared as it can be a fear for some to get bloodwork done. When someone comes in and it's a simple matter of contacting business services to verify, he really doesn't need to tell me that he's going on lunch in 40 minutes (it was 11:20 and he told me lunch was at 12:00) and flat out "Can't do it if his email is not returned by then" He didn't politely suggest I return in a couple hours or explain what was needed in a professional manner. Then he has the nerve to tell me I am "giving him a hard time" when I simply asked a couple questions in the nicest possible manner. I told him I felt it was the opposite and asked for my paperwork back so I could go to a different location. He made me SO uncomfortable and gave such a bad impression that I felt uncomfortable thinking about letting this person stick me with a needle. He couldn't even check me in professionally! I left due to his terrible attitude and ended up having a lovely experience at the Sorrento Mesa location. The techs and front desk were super friendly, professional and explained what was happening and it was taken care of in a matter of minutes. I will avoid this lab location even though it's always where I've gone in the past due to this. His managers should know how he speaks to patients as many people are there because they're dealing with medical issues which is stressful enough. I was unaware that I was allergic to the contrast but had a severe reaction, and the techs acted quickly and I have them to thank. Last year I had a traumatic experience with another technician who left me in the tube for an extended period of time telling me I was breathing too heavy. I was doing the best I could and left there last year feeling degraded and defeated. Today, I was feeling a bit apprehensive but the care team today was the best! Neison. 11/15/20 Long story short I lost my insurance card and I was brought to see miss Angela diaz to look up my insurance info, she was soooo sweet to print out a copy for me, she even tried to reach out to my medical providers to verify it. She was sooo patient and understanding while I was trying to reach out to my insurance, love her to bits. I got seen by Dr. Neison, who is also the sweetest and most understanding Dr. I've ever seen by far. I've never been treated with so much compassion with my mental health issues and she wanted to work out a plan to genuinely help me get better. The exterior makes the buildings look really old but the interiors are really nice! I was very surprised to see how beautiful the offices are. I'm not very happy to be writing this review. I first went here in December 2018 and had Camille Santos as my physician. She was okay overall, but dismissed a lot of issues I brought up to her and acted like I was being dramatic about them and shouldn't worry. Excuse me, do you know my body better than I do? The front office staff at the Family Medicine department are all pretty rude and snotty. One lady specifically, but I don't remember her name at the moment. I ended up switching to the Sorrento-Mesa facility, and have had a much better experience there. The doctors at both facilities however, have ridiculously long wait times just to get in for a basic appointment. They obviously need more doctors, because having to wait 3-4 weeks just to see a doctor is extremely frustrating and is costing people their health. Oh, and I won't forget to mention either how you're treated worse than an animal, and rushed in and out of your appointment before you can even get to all your issues. Don't go here, and save yourself multiple headaches. read more

I set up a payment plan for a balance owed, made payments on it, but still got a notice saying no arrangement had been made and collections was on deck. It's ridiculous how incompetent this operation is with the amount of money thrown around in healthcare. Nothing is easy. Everything is a pain in the ass. My first visit to this Sharp location was in mid 2017, for a procedure with Dr. Hsu that I was initially nervous going into. I didn't know what to expect and was afraid of anything invasive. The nurse who was of Dr. Hsu's assistance that day was very calming, understanding and spoke in a tone of voice that made me feel comfortable right away as she explained the procedure to both my Husband and I before having me change into a patient gown. Since my Husband wasn't allowed into the room where my procedure was going to be performed, the nurse explained to me that she would be there to hold my hand and guide me through the process. She then brought in Dr. Hsu who would be performing the procedure. Upon meeting Dr. Hsu, she was also very kind as she asked me questions before starting. That procedure took a total of about 45 minutes to an hour which could have taken less time if Dr. Hsu didn't initially have an issue at first. I won't go into detail of that nature, but at one point, she almost had to call in another doctor to help assist. Luckily, she was able to complete the procedure on her own. If it wasn't for her calming nature and the presence of her nurse that was very sweet, I probably would not have been able to continue laying still. Once my procedure was over, the sweet nurse was so kind to come back into the room after I changed back into my clothes and gave me a gift she handmade, that to this day I have hanging on my memory board at home. For my second appointment, I came here last week on a weekday to have an MRI done around the evening time. My appointment was around 6PM and check in was pretty smooth. Just filled out the normal paperwork/questionaire and was called in within 15 minutes. I forgot the radiologist's name that night, but he was really nice and explained everything to me before having me change into a gown. After changing, I placed my belongings into a locker and took the keys with me. This wasn't my first time having an MRI done so I knew what to expect. It is loud, so they have you wear earplugs to help. The radiologist also asked me if I wanted a blanket, but I decided not to. I basically kept my eyes closed the entire time and daydreamed away. While I was in there, the radiologist would speak through a mic every 3-5 minutes to ask if I was doing okay and to let me know how long every test he performed would take. Once it was done, I went back to my locker, grabbed my belongings and was on my way. Overall both experiences at this facility was great. Everyone I dealt with was patient and understanding while also taking the time to answer any questions or concerns. read more

I am currently waiting to get my insurance data input into sharp Rees Stealy. This is despite the fact that I called it in 3 weeks ago. My MRI is being delayed and everyone with an appointment after me will be delayed because of Sharp's inefficiency When I finally got in to a patient account rep, instead of inputting data, he was pre occupied with knowing the date and time of day I called in 3 weeks ago rather than updating my info so my care was not delayed. Does anyone recall who they spoke to on the phone 3 weeks ago and that person's name and exact time of day you spoke? Despite the fact that my new health care card says that I am assigned to sharp Rees Stealy, the account Rep A insisted that I am assigned to another medical group. Despite my name being on my card, he claimed that another name is assigned to my number. He said if I did not call now I would be responsible for payment in full. So I called in and demonstrated that my group was recognized as sharp Rees Stealy as of 1/21/2020 and indeed the number on the card was assigned to me and me alone Hey Sharp. How about verifying coverage prior to someone's arrival for treatment like every one else does. Your focus should be treatment once a patient walks through your doors and nothing else. My 86 year old father understandably confused his appointment date for an MRI appointment. This was only discovered after our arrival to this facility from Imperial Beach, on a Sunday no less. Faced with the reality of having to return at a later date, what happened next was nothing short of exceptional customer service and genuine thoughtfulness. The staff rallied to squeeze us in (no doubt cutting into their lunch breaks). We could hardly believe it - but it's true - and they did it all with a smile! Went for a scheduled CT scan they said my insurance was pending. I called my insurance while on-site and the front counter women was extremely rude. Rushing me asking if i'm going to do the scan or not. I was on the phone trying to get it worked out but with the insurance. Standing at her desk no one in line. She went and spoke Spanish to the other lady behind the counter and that lady was looking at me like i was a freak. I am a super chill person trying to get an issue figured out and I felt like a burden . No smiles no friendly just rude behavior. Was scheduled for an MRI and was told that I will be billed my co pay during appointment confirmation by Allee. When I showed up at 6 am they refused me service and demanded an amount that was triple what my insurance quoted. When I asked for a manager I was told that none is availabe. Lilianal and Alicia did very little to assist and were not sympathetic when I explained that I had driven far and it had taken over a month to book my app. The staff is unfriendly and careless. Do not put yourself through more trouble by going here. Double check your portion with insurance company because they will over charge you. read more

I love this place. Fast & Easy Check In, easy to get to and lots of free parking. A big plus for me is that I hardly ever have to wait long to be called back to see the doctor once I've checked in. The staff is always nice, kind and so understanding. I was embarrassingly 20 minutes late to my appointment and no one made me feel bad. I apologized profusely for being so late (darn miramar traffic) and they all didn't make me feel even worse than I already did. But seriously, this doctor's office has such a great staff from check-in, to the nurses and especially to the Doctor! BTW, This review is mainly for Dr. Santos and her staff. Even during the flu season where it's busy as hell, Dr. Santos does not give off the aura of "hurry up and tell me what's wrong with you so i can tell you want to do and i can move on" kind of attitude like past doctors I've had. She is warm, personable and really seems to care about helping you. She asks about my family and she truly makes me feel comfortable around her. I feel like she's one of my close aunties. This review is for the Optometry Department and the Optical Center. I have had multiple eye problems over the years and have seen numerous opthalmologists, optometrists, and opticians. This Optometry Department is top notch. Beth did my initial intake and I was very impressed -- she was thorough in getting my entire eye history, understood everything, provided me some useful information about their emergency services should I ever need them, and did so in a professional, approachable and friendly manner. Dr. Craig Liu did my eye exam and he was efficient, thorough, professional and very friendly. He asked about my activities so as to understand the best types of glasses for my lifestyle. He was knowledgeable about my eye conditions and sensitive to my needs. Candace in the optician department was very helpful when I was picking out new glasses frames. (She told me she usually works at the Otay Mesa office). She quickly gained my confidence in deciding the frames that were right for me. It was a real pleasure working with her. They are trying to charge me 566.31 saying it's deductible whereas my insurance has conveyed to them a thousand times that I am to pay only $25 and 20% copay. I wasn't even aware that Sharp had a location here in Mira Mesa on activity road. I was just aware of the one on Mira Mesa Blvd. This one is smaller it seems, older maybe, situated on a little hill kind of. It's a little odd. But it has imaging, a lab, pediatrics and general internal medicine. Came here for the first time for my annual checkup and everything was smooth and easy. Arrived 15 minutes prior to my appointment as requested, saw my doctor and had blood drawn. Every member fo the staff I interacted with was nice and courteous. What a great way to spend the usual dreaded annual checkup. 90 minutes once a year and you're done! Gotta keep up after all the Yelp foodie outings. Stay Healthy y'all! read more

I was diagnosed with meralgia paresthetica and had to get a shot with the use of ultrasound. Having gone through so many other procedures for my back I was not looking forward to this. Off all the times I have been to Sharp for certain procedures this was the most relaxed I have ever been. I want to thank Sheila S. for being so positive from the time I walked in the room where the procedure was to be done and also Dr. Chang who was so detailed about all the questions I asked. Horrible experience with their nurse taking the blood test samples: first off, she couldn't find my blood vessel for good 10 minutes while it has never been an issue for me before; secondly, when she finally managed to take the blood samples, my arm ended up being severely damaged to the extend when I literally can't use it for the rest of the day due to a huge bruise and an enormous pain. The pain is so bad that it prevents me from sleeping and eating. If you need some blood tests to be done, I recommend doing it somewhere else to stay safe. read more

We have had good experiences with Sharp Rees Stealy over the years but presently there is a glitch. We are part of a growing (perhaps minority) of people who, are looking alternatives to the socialized medicine and Cobra complex.) Actually there are alternatives out there but as Sharp is a big company they seem to not be motivated to allow for these. These alternatives are known as health sharing ministries. These organizations have the members pool their money in a co-operative way to pay for health care costs. These organizations have their own team of cost adjusters, just like insurance companies, who will negotiate with the health care provider (e.g. Sharp) and will ask for price adjustments that are comparable with what other payer's are paying (e.g. Medicare or ref healthcarebluebook.com for cost guidelines) The price adjuster from our Health Sharing Ministry was rejected by Sharp even though their prices are comparable with what others must pay - since they are not "under contract" with Sharp. Our relationship with Sharp, if we want to continue using them, is greatly hampered by this. Are there any San Diego healthcare providers that are open to this kind of cooperative health care ministry ? These healthcare ministries are solvent, and can provide coverage to comparable to insurance companies. Consumers who prefer no government funding can save more than 50% on their family insurance costs by utilizing these organizations, but right now consumers who want this are being denied by Sharp and other large heathcare providers.
