He teaches my "cane-fu" class, which is more like practical self-defense for older people (who might happen to have a cane handy.) He and his son and another sensei teach my daughter's kenpo class, where they do learn kata and forms, but they always make sure you know what the moves are a response to. In fact, that's Stan's first question almost every time: "why are you doing this?" Hard to believe this quality of martial arts instruction exists in small-town Galt.

I remember one day, trying to do a form while he distracted our eyes with a water hose...haha. He didn't do that often but he was always trying to find new ways to mix things up for us. I really appreciated how different it was compared to the usual karate place, where you can see yourself doing forms in the mirrored walls, he emphasized body control- knowing where your foot is(without looking) so that you don't screw up the technique for example. I don't know how his classes are currently, but I think he provided great real world tactical self defense back then and have no doubts that he's still a great teacher. I wish I had stuck with it longer than I did.

I tried very hard to understand what the instructor was saying, but he talked too fast and it was too noisy with all the chaos. If I couldn't understand him, then neither can his students.

They teach Shaolin Kempo & Shotokan Karate. The training includes physical exercise, strength training, and self defense. BUT- even more than the physical training is also a component of the program that I think really sets MMA apart from other karate classes. Emotionally strengthening components of the programs & classes including self control, accountability, courage, confidence, kindness, self respect, respect for others, and so much more!! The quote from Sensei Mark Cameron states that at Manteca Martial Arts they believe that: "A Goal is a Dream with a Deadline." I had checked out Robinsons in Lodi before, but I wasn't a huge fan. However, Cutting Edge has been something totally different. I really see the passion these instructors have for what they teach. I like that they're attentive to the kids, teach them to be disciplined, and teach them other important values. They don't play with nonsense, but will be patient with kids that aren't listening and talk to them in a caring but firm manner. I love the way they put on belt testing for the kids. It was such a cool thing to see. My kids love it and I love seeing my kids learning something that they enjoy with instructors that have a true passion for what they teach.

Everyone is very kind and attentive to the children. Shihan and his children, who sometimes assist with training the tiny tots, are very patient and explain the concepts very well. The owner is an experienced professional, which shines through in his interactions with the students. The kids have a lot of fun. If this review were only for my son's experience, it would be a 5 star review. Hands down. The lack of one star is due to a Hitler quote they have on the wall. I am not Jewish, but I am of Mexican descent and do not feel welcome due to the choice and placement of the quote.
