I'm amazed that in 2022, a customer must come in to cancel their membership. Why can't I do it on-line? Next level, why can't I do it over the phone? What is it that you need me physically there to cancel other than to try to sell me on not dropping out? I paid for 6 months and only used the gym 3 times. My family is going through hard times. Spending 30 minutes to stop my membership is 30 minutes I don't spend with family. Great customer service is what brings old customers back to you. I know. I ran sales for high-tech companies for 30 years. Returning customers are easy sales. Disappointed customers don't come back. They have alternatives. If I could do zero stars I would. Tried to resolve a billing issue. Asked for manager told not in. Wanted to give me an email. I said no whens she gonna be in. I was told "Its my day off and I'm not looking in the computer to see when she is in, I can give you an email." All the while interrupting me. I said put someone on the phone who can hive me the information. She hung up on me. I called back, they didn't answer. Mind you when I called she recognized my number from when I called before. It's sad I cant give less than one star. I joined July 2019 ahead of my hip replacement surgery..the only equipment I ever used was the pool. I was looking forward to continuing to swim after my surgery, water is an excellent way to excercise. It didn't take long for me to feel like I was really in the wrong place, from the inside staff to the instructors and trainers my experience was dreadful. Then the pandemic hits and I suspend my membership and they charged my credit card anyway for April...they told me I didn't suspend in a timely manner and that was that. I disputed the charge thru my bank and after 2 months I did get a refund. Beware of the shady business folks... read more

Best gym in the county! Always open and always friendly. They have all the equipment you need to get in the best shape of your life. The pool, jacuzzi, dry sauna and steam rooms are relaxing as well. I want to take a moment to explain why I left a one star review. I was one of many people who enjoyed the facilities at NY Fitness for several years. The previous owners were very friendly, the staff warm and welcoming. Because I didn't live locally, I wasn't able to go as often as I would like. They had a great solution, a punch card system. I prepaid for visits, and purchased 3 punch cards over 5 years I worked out there. They kept the card behind the desk for you, so you didn't have to worry about forgetting it. I trusted they wouldn't lose it. I also believed the cards didn't expire, or do not remember ever being told they would. Since I didn't have the card in my possession, if it said it did, I don't remember reading that. I believe I would have remembered. So the new owners came in last year. They obviously put money into upgrading the club. Changes I noticed and appreciated. I worked out there a couple of weeks ago, and when I checked in at the desk, I asked, as was my habit, how many punches I had left. I like to budget, so that I could plan my purchase of a new card. I was told I had 8 visits remaining. Last week, when I checked in, I was told I was no longer in the system. The new owner told me my card expired, and I no longer had any credit there. My initial reaction was that I wish I knew that was happening. That a warning could have been given, or a sign posted. He became argumentative. Instead of working with me, he told me it was a "slap in his face" that people like me were using his club for free, after he put $100 k into it. I told him I wasn't using the club for free, I had paid. He said what I had paid wasn't worth it to him, and now the card was twice the previous price. Let me say here, I was hoping he would show me that he valued my business. Instead his angry tone and continence suggested otherwise. If he had offered me a small credit towards the purchase of a new card to replace the old one, I probably would have opened up my wallet and paid. I had my hand on my purse. Instead, I felt that someone who valued his money over his members and showed that so clearly, was someone I didn't trust to handle my money any longer. I felt that I wasn't the kind of member the club wanted. read more

When I joined I signed up for a year contract, thinking that I would be able to use the facilities for a year. Crazy idea I know. They notified me that they were moving locations a week after I signed up. So they already knew that they were going to move when I was signing up but conveniently failed to mention that I would no longer have access to these amenities soon. I signed up mainly to use the Pool, Sauna, and tanning booth. Since they moved locations they no longer have a pool or sauna, and they didn't tell me that the use of the tanning booth would be an extra charge. I had a membership at this gym before the current owners took over and the tanning booth was included before. I tried cancelling and was told that I signed a year long contract and it says in the contract that they are allowed to move locations. So they definitely knew they were moving when I signed up and decided not to tell me. Super shady business. They have charged me a total of $1,212.44 so far and I have used their tanning booth I think three times during the first month before they moved. I don't see this place lasting if they continue these business practices. read more

Bodybuilding Mecca of Amador County ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have gone to this gym both before and after the current owners (Sean and Katie) purchased it and WOW, what an improvement. In under a year they have lowered the price to $50 for all members, tripled the amount of bodybuilding equipment, introduced new equipment every month, and turned it into a 24 hour gym! Not to mention that the atmosphere is so now much more friendly and personal. I used to just go in, scan my card and begin my workout, but now I always end up chatting with the owners, employees, or other gym members both before and after my workouts. Honestly this is my favorite gym that I have ever been to and easily one of my favorite places in the county. read more

Best gym I've been to in a long time. Walking in the pictures of bodybuilders and competitors made me feel right at home. As I went through I was so impressed with the equipment selection. Not just one brand they got at a discount rate like most gyms but different brands offering great leverages and just feel right to a lifter. Can tell the owner actually trains. Old Facility, cold in winter hot in the summer, Old outdated equipment with some new pieces added in, expensive memberships that seem to consistently go up in price with no notice to the members, cold pool, dirty restrooms with cold showers, pictures of the owners flexing their muscles on every wall in this place. I joined March 2020, April 2020 they closed due to COVID which they took $59.99 out of my account even though they were closed, when I messaged them about it, getting my money back for April, Shawn replied we are all going through the same thing and we are all in this together, they appreciate the support. The difference is they own the business and I am the customer that is being charged for services not rendered. They said I needed to come in and sign a form to put my membership on hold for a few months, in order for them to stop taking money out of my account. I went signed the form and asked the girl working if I would get a refund for April, she only answered I don't know, which is not an answer, I didn't push it because we really don't have many options in this county and I didn't want to make it weird for me to come and work out. February 2021 was when the were going to left the hold on my membership, I decided I was going to cancel my membership so I went in on January 8th to cancel, during to time my membership was on hold they changed their cancellation time from 10 days to 30 days, when I told the two young men working that I did not know it had changed, they said it's on our website, I don't go on their website. They said there was nothing I could do about it. I asked to talk to their accounting department, I was told no, that is not possible. They were treating me as if I had done something wrong. Bad business people all around. I'm not going to stop here, I will be contacting the Better Business bureau. Stay tuned! read more

As popular as this gym is in Amador County, and as long as it's been around, I'm truly surprised by the fact that there are no local reviewers commenting on it up to this point whatsoever. Though not currently a gym member anywhere, I have taken a number of classes there that are open to the public over the years, am taking one there now, and also like to frequent the cafe in the lobby. Also, I have to say looking at these reviews, that I really can't figure out with all the gyms that there are in El Dorado HIlls (and Folsom), why someone would bother to come way up here in the hills to go to ours, and then leave such a nasty and inaccurate review. The other one, though six years old, is far more accurate. Go see for yourself, and you'll find that they have a large heated pool, plenty of parking, good equipment, the layout is fine, and the price is right, especially the classes and there is a large number of those, and a variety of other activities like racquet ball, dance, yoga, and private rooms upstairs for massage.They even have a daycare staff that provide childcare for those who need it, which I've yet to see in any other gym, so, it's actually quite a great place and I see people of all types and ages there. They have personal trainers, and quite a large staff, plenty of parking, and amenities too numerous to mention. I know dozens of members, and not one of them has ever told me they don't like it. In fact they're always trying to get me to join. If I didn't detest exercising so much, I certainly would. read more

Shawn & Katie are amazing people. It's nice to go to a gym with owners who ACTUALLY have passion for the industry. Need proof? Look at their fitness level. They are always more than willing to give advice on nutrition and workouts. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. There facility I'd 24 hours, and staffed 24, making it a very place to train. They have just about any equipment you can imagine, and tons you never been about. Plus rooms for every type of exercise. The sauna and steam room go great with a clean locker room. Plus the facility is always clean. The price for what you get absolutely cannot be beat. This will always be my gym as long as I live in Amador County. read more

Moreover, the efforts that Shawn and Katie have made to support the community show that they are not only concerned with running an ever evolving business, but also in being advocates for children in need, local sports programs, and the community at large. During both power outages, they opened their doors to members of Amador and Calaveras counties, who needed a safe place to come to get a warm shower and a respite from the stress of having no power or water. This gym works for our family and many of Amador's young families because of their "Fit Kids" program. They provide Unlimited (up to two hours a day M-F) childcare for an additional cost to a membership which allows parents to work out. This is the only gym in the area with this feature. The childcare is available for 2.5 hours in the morning Monday-Friday and 2.5 hours in the evening Monday-Thursday. The childcare staff is amazing and take incredible care of my kids, which allows me to get a workout in. The gym has a beautiful pool, jacuzzi, two racquetball courts, sauna, steam room, locker rooms, loads of weights and cardio equipment and the staff is friendly and takes good care of everything. They have many different types of fitness classes in the morning which fits with their childcare hours. The gym is never over crowded and parking lot is easily accessible. They have wifi as well as tvs near cardio equipment. As long as they keep their childcare program open, and their prices affordable, this is the perfect fit for our family and many other families in our community. read more

I have been going to this gym for four years now, and I love this facility. I have promoted the gym and even defended the new owners against negative comments. I like this gym so much I have also sold three of my friends on purchasing memberships here. However, The new owners did to me what I have seen them do to so many other long time members. Shawn (one of the owners) belittled me, insulted me, and disrespected me over the phone when I became frustrated with trying to place my membership on hold. I could explain my side of the story, but let us be honest. No one cares! Long story short.. I had an issue and Shawn's demeanor completely changed. Instead of working with me he became aggressive, and he then started to provoke the situation instead of resolving it. I told him this was not good customer service and all I was trying to do was put my membership on hold. He did not try to reason with me or keep me as a member, and in fact, cancelled my membership because he did not need someone telling him he was bad at customer service. All I wanted was help and got absolutely none. Terrible place of business, but great gym! Such a shame. The new owners do not genuinely care about its members. All they care about is their members' money and it cost me $90.00 to learn that lesson! read more

New York Fitness in Jackson California fills the bill for anyone incorporating a gym into their lives on any schedule...daily, a few times a week or just sporadically. My wife and I have been members for six years and this place...especially the pool...are a lifesaver! We know the previous owners and are indebted to them for creating New York Fitness all those years ago. They saw a need in the county and have provided the community with a great facility. The new owners (Shawn and Katie Karai) are exceptional. They are both body builders and knew that at the helm of NY Fitness, they could take it to even higher levels of fitness. They have done just that. Much money has been spent on improvements and they are really looking out for the overall fitness and nutrition of Amador County members as well as members from outside of our county. My wife and I have been members of NYF for many, many years-long before the current owners purchased the club. We have always enjoyed going there. The staff has always been, and still is, courteous and helpful. The owners, not so much. Recently, when my wife asked to have our membership suspended for a month while we were on vacation (something we have done in the past as per their policy) she was told that they couldn't do it since we had not given them nine days notice. She questioned the owners, Sean and Katie, about this and they told her that was the policy and that they could not or would not alter it. In the process, they became argumentative, putting down the previous owners and touting the amount of money they had put into the facility. In my opinion, very bad form and extremely unprofessional. Okay, fine. Then comes the current Covid 19 stay at home restrictions and the gym has closed in compliance. Also, fine. Since we are unable to use the facility, we again called to request to suspend our membership for a month. Understandably, the gym has curtailed the hours during which they can be contacted; they are now available from 8-12 a.m. on Monday and 2-6 p.m. on Friday. We have called several times during those posted hours. No one has ever answered the phone. Additionally, according to their voice message, anyone wishing to discuss their membership must do so in person. We have left a message each time explaining that we are over 70 and, therefore, not comfortable with that since we are in one of the groups of people most likely to become seriously ill if affected by the virus. Still no call back and our credit card is still being charged membership fees. Finally, out of frustration after calling and hearing a message that their voice mail box was full, I went in person not to suspend our membership, but to cancel it -which I did and was told by the person at the desk that he cancelled it. I find the lack of communication on the part of the owners of this facility arrogant and rude in the extreme. Too bad, despite the bad taste in wall directions, it is a good facility with a broad range of exercise facilities. These folks seriously need to work on their interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with those without whom they would have no business. read more

I came in to the gym two weeks ago for the first time and because I didn't know about the coupon they made a friend and I pay $15 for a day pass. I was also told just cause I'm home for three months from college that I have to pay $85 a month. Later I went online and saw that day passes are free and that there's a $50 a month college special. So, I came back into the gym to ask questions about the pass and the college special, all the owners did was argue with me and tell me I was wrong. I also got yelled at on my way out to "NEVER COME BACK" from Katie just because I was curious why I had to pay $15 instead of being told I could have a free day and that the pass is online. This is no way to treat an interested customer with questions. Also no way to run a business. I will make sure to spread word to all of my friends and everyone I know in Amador County to never go to NYF if they are looking for a gym. The owners need to know that they can't treat someone like that and expect it to help improve their business. This was a very ridiculous and rude experience I had from the first gym I wanted to get a membership from. read more

I can't say enough amazing things about this place, or should I say the people?? Over the past 14 years I've been an on again/off again gym goer... and while the past few years have been more of a 'consistent' for me, I've gained soo much awareness as to what keeps me motivated and still excited to workout. And for me the answer is...THE PEOPLE.. I've been able to obtain new and old friends here at New York Fitness, ones who support and encourage me!!! I feel safe and excited every time I walk into that gym, with no judgement and only the best vibes.. Shawn and Katie continue to improve not only the esthetics of the gym, but they keep the energy fun and motivating with an amazing staff,exciting classes, and new improved equipment.. They continue to challenge me to try new things, and to build new perspectives on my goals. Absolute robbery. Replaced expired card on file for following month's billing, then told it didn't get switched so I needed to pay a fee in order to become current. Tried cancelling nine days prior to next billing cycle and was told it was too late so I had to pay it too. Best believe we are through with this gym and the money hungry people! read more
