The Giraffe barn is attached to one side of the house, and their pasture is on the other side. It is the most fabulous "Barndominium" with incredible finishes and clearly thoughtfully designed. That experience alone was mind-blowing.... however we also had the Gold Packages and were able to experience everything the ranch had to offer! Zebras, Capybaras, Kangaroos, Otters, Deer, Homer the Dromedary!!! Everywhere you turned there were more animals and more experiences offered. My children and I were in absolute animal heaven and will be thrilled to return. I will say, our vacation was expensive and it did not disappoint. However, I do believe you can absolutely visit this ranch on a budget.... Probably one of the best experiences was their ranch safari and that is a nominal price and totally worth it! You can see the entire property and all of the animals on the safari trip. Additionally they have fantastic cabins that are themed, and if you have children under the age of 10, the pirate themed cabins are beyond your wildest imagination.... as far as I am aware all of the sleeping accommodations include kitchens so you can absolutely cook for your family instead of paying for the delicious ranch food. That said... Chef Alan is phenomenal and out of this world excellent chef. Each meal was made with love and artistry. The staff at Blue Hills Ranch all go above and beyond to create lasting memories for you. I absolutely recommend this experience as a NOT TO BE MISSED event! I received a flyer in the mail about day passes available in July and August, and I'm so glad I…read moredid! My entire day at the resort was wonderful. I attended four classes, and in hindsight, I wish I had chosen more mind classes instead of physical ones, but now I know for next time. My first class was with Theresa, who is truly a gem at the resort. If you have the chance to take a class with her, do it! I attended her Earth Wisdom class, and I loved it. The next time I visit, I will make sure to take every class she teaches. It was a powerful experience. After that, I tried a new-to-me spa treatment called Shamana-Karma, which felt magical. I wish I could remember my therapist's name because she did an amazing job. For lunch, I ordered a burger and helped myself to the salad bar. Unfortunately, the burger was the biggest disappointment of the day--it was overcooked and more like a hockey puck. Trust me, I wasn't hungry, as the buffet offered more than enough food. On the positive side, the staff was very friendly. In the afternoon, I joined a series of yoga classes, starting with Stretch and Relax, followed by Happy Hips, and finally, Shoulders Set Free. That was quite a bit of yoga for such a short period, and by the halfway point of the Happy Hips class, I was feeling done. All three classes were taught by Amy, and between the Stretch and Happy Hips, there was a lot of repetition in the movements. Next time, I'll avoid scheduling so many yoga classes in a row. The highlight of my day, especially on such a hot Texas day, was the quiet room in the spa. Anytime I felt myself starting to melt, I would retreat there. It was so relaxing and cool! I've even started to recreate a quiet room in my home, complete with no devices, cooler temperatures, and a weighted blanket. I could have spent the entire day just in that room. I visited on the hottest day this year in Texas, with a heat index well over 100 degrees. Because of this, moving from one point to another can really heat you up. Having had heat stroke in the past makes me even more sensitive to the heat, so keep this in mind if you're planning a visit during the summer. I did have a bit of a downside experience with the pools, as both are in full sun for most of the day. The deck at the spa pool was too hot to walk on, and the gate at the other pool burned my hands. The Texas sun is no joke! By the end of the day, I was thankful that the building finally provided some shade at the spa pool, allowing me to enjoy a bit of time there. Despite the overcooked burger and the heat--which is beyond their control--it was a wonderful day. I've already shared my experience with three friends and can't wait to plan another visit. I have an extremely stressful job and home life, and this experience helped me greatly, even if only for a few hours. Thank you to everyone who works there for allowing locals to come and experience such a relaxing day!

There were hairs in our tub, so I cleaned it myself prior to my wife and I using it (which I didn't mind doing, as I am not snobby or beneath a little cleaning). Also, the bathroom window has no blinds or curtain, so when other guests decide to venture down to our patio, we have to be lucky not to be showering or standing nude at the time that they do. However, these couple little things are not enough to make me lower my rating of the place! Overall, the villa is amazing! A nice place to have that luxury feeling while being the perfect place to relax! I HIGHLY recommend this place for romantic getaways or for relaxation getaways. They have lots of options in the mini bar, whether you are wanting an adult drink or just something cold and fizzy. When we arrived, they did give us a complementary bottle of water as well as a cold beer that I sat out on our little porch and enjoyed as the rain started to come down. I love all of the detail put into these rooms, it is such an amazing property, but I'll be honest there were way more kids than I expected, but it was Easter weekend so I guess a lot of families were traveling. I really wanted to get into the pool, but it was massively crowded. They have an outdoor bar as well as a café on the property that has live music and an enormous fireplace and plenty of big screen TVs to watch sports. Every evening they light up the fire pits and if you want to make s'mores, you can purchase a s'mores kit for just $10. They do not allow smoking in the rooms but allow you to smoke on the little patio outside your door. This has definitely become one of my favorite places to stay in Austin, which is difficult because there are so many amazing places in Austin, but Lone Star has definitely stepped into my top five. The rooms offer a seamless blend of modern comfort and relaxed luxury and well-designed with a very open floor plan with a farmhouse door separating the restroom from the bedroom area. I was on the third floor. Each room had rocking chairs out front for a relaxing vibe. I especially appreciated how easy it was to step right outside and be in a communal space. it made connecting with others throughout the weekend effortless. One of the highlights was the courtyard area. Whether it was live music, lounging by the pool, or just gathering around in the evenings, the atmosphere felt lively without being overwhelming. It struck a nice balance between fun and laid-back. They had many communal areas set up with fire pits and a nice outdoor communal bar area where we held our silent disco. They also had a great event space where they hosted our group. The Water Trough bar and restaurant provided a breakfast and dinner dining experience. They also had an indoor bar area with live music for entertainment. Only issue was they did run out of food at dinner. The location in the Domain is also a positive. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance, so there was always something to do between retreat activities.
