They have outdoor tennis, volleyball and basketball courts and a nice grassy field for little league baseball games and practices. Like all facilities while still under pandemic restrictions, be sure to follow the protocols in effect at the time of your visit. The views from the upper part of the park on 20th Ave. are quite nice, especially during sunrise. During normal in-school class days, most of the street between the school and the park is closed. On the mauka side there is access to a couple of parking stalls for your use when using the park. An interesting side note is that the park's rec. bldg. next to the children's playground equipment area used to be an open pavillion that was one of the coolest places to sit. The tradewinds would roll through with a sweet breeze as you sat and kicked back to daydream during the lazy days of summer.

I will have to admit I have a soft spot for this park, as my friends & I use to hang out at this park during our Intermediate, errr............or should I say middle school dayz. I even played park league b-ball for Petrie park back in da dayz...........and if I can find da vintage pic, I'll post it for you folks, so you can get a good laugh! Buwahahahahaha! Petrie Community Park is not overly big, but it has a little of something for everyone (for all ages). Petrie park has several basketball courts, tennis courts, a volleyball court, a jungle gym for the kiddies, and a large field for kids to play soccer, baseball, as well as football. There are also several benches & picnic tables on the park premises, should you wanna eat there, or watch the kiddies. In my recent visits here, I could clearly see that the field could use some water, as the grass was pretty brown & dried up...........but of course summer is just around the corner, so I guess maybe the city is trying to save water? There is also a office pavilion, as well as a restroom at Petrie park, but be careful if you come here at night, as I saw some sketchy element hanging & loitering around the restroom area. There is no private parking lot for this park, but not to fret as there is a lot of street parking within the Kaimuki neighborhood. Through the years, not much has changed at this park since I used to hang here as a kid, but glad to see folks still bring kids here to enjoy this nice community park.

With that said, I came here to Pu'unui community park pretty much out of the blue, just to check things out. With the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing, it helps the individual to be outdoors and enjoy while also being mindful about the social distancing and wearing the face mask too. I arrived here on a Sunday afternoon after commuting from Waikiki around 3pm on a cloudless May 2020 day. The park itself was quite small with a sizable open space for a baseball field and a space to play any sports imaginable. There's also a basketball court that is sort of enclosed in a building type structure. There's also a building that may or may not be a multi-use building of some sort. Not sure if there are public restrooms available on property, since I tried to find one, but didn't seem to locate one during my experience here. I was the only person there during my stay here and spent about 1 hour here enjoying the area and seeing this side of residential Liliha through its community park. It's nice that there was no visible homeless issues here during my time here and the ambiance was quite nice and also quiet. The park itself was basically nice and maintained by the good folks at the City and County of Honolulu Parks department. The overall experience here at Pu'unui community park was nice, although somewhat inadequate. There was no place to sit down like a bench or anything I saw. Sitting on concrete steps or leaning against the wall was my only options during my stay here. Maybe they took the benches away because of COVID-19 pandemic, which could be the case. I spent my time h ere at this park by looking around, walking the perimeter a bunch of times to kill the time and to get in the usual exercise, and trying to find the restroom facility - but to no avail. I enjoyed the ambiance of this quiet park nestled in the quiet Liliha district of urban Honolulu. It's so quiet that hardly any traffic buzzed through the area while I was there. It is pretty cool that there is a basketball court for those who enjoy the game as well as the baseball diamond. For myself though, walking around the perimeter works best and had a nice time doing so. If you are in the area and want a place to relax on a weekend or after a day at the office, consider making a stop here at the Pu'unui community park before you head on home. As with many community parks around the island, it's the second best thing to the ocean to de-stress after a tough day at the office. Pu'unui community park is located at 2555 Puunui Avenue in the heart of Liliha. As all community and neighborhood parks go, there is no admission fee required to gain access to its grounds. During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, parks were previously closed to the public, but this order was lifted in late April 2020 to help support physical exercise and wellbeing for all citizens. So, you can come here (and any park) for your workouts - just no picnics or other non-physical exercise related activity. Many of y'all drive, so parking options are basically limited to any open residential parking spots you can find and park there. If you are like me, there's only 1 bus route that comes here and that's route 13. There's one other bus route that services the upper Liliha area, but it doesn't come close to this community park. That route is 10. There are routes 1L, 2, and 2L, but they only run on North School Street and Liliha. Best bet would be to bus it on the 13 really. For the most part though, finding solace can be found here at Pu'unui community park. Youth team games are played here as well as evening pick up basketball games with the locals. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Open spaces are your friends! And its free! Support local! A+

We were there today with 4 dogs trying to practice obedience training and there was several loose dogs playing ball while 1 dog was off leash with no collar and was running up towards our dogs. This dog looked like a pit mix and came up to my dog and almost seemed like a fight was going to start. Human nature made me yell at the owner since we were distant apart and he couldn't get his dog back. Please be responsible people! 1. Don't let your dog loose with no collar 2. Take your dogs to run at a dog park 3. It's the law to have a leash on your dog out in the public except when you go to offleash designated dog parks 4. When your dog is offleash in an area not designated, any damage to human/dog, owner of dog that caused bite will be held liable!!!

The pond also has a bunch of Koi fish and fat tilapias. Great little spot to relax, small picnic, and get some fun feeding animals. First review if 2024!…read more I brought my kids here just days after they saw the movie ' Migration'! They absolutely loved being here at the springs, I know, because they didn't even want to leave when I offered to take them to the playground just across the street. They looooved seeing the ducks and koi fish most! The pigeons were a bit much. We had sat in the little bleacher looking area, but had to move because all the pigeons started pooping after some kids fed them... I brought then to the Kunawai Springs specifically because I knew about the ducks, although I hadn't been here before! We had so much fun though! We're doing a 1000 hours outside challenge this year, 2024, so I've been looking into different outdoor activities for our family to partake in! We'll definitely be coming back here, the kids enjoyed it so much. Coming here brought back so much memories for many of our family members. I brought the kiddos here, took lots of pictures, and when I posted them, they all messaged me that they used to all come here when they were younger, and used to even swim I the pond?!?! The parking lot isn't a long walk from anywhere at the park. There's many reasons why we like this park. The playground is small kid friendly. If you're a parent to littles, you know what I mean. There's basketball and volleyball courts, baseball fields, and sooo much space. Ready for my two absolute FAVORITE things about this park...? The SWINGS! And the biiig BANYAN TREE! Those two things are what makes this park so unique. The Banyan tree is amazing, and if you're someone, like me, that takes your kids to different park and playgrounds almost weekly, you'll know there are very, very few parks here that have swings. :)

I didn't feel safe to bring kids here even if it was in daylight. The parking is far from the playground and so isolating. I see this park all the time after target runs. Surprisingly the condition is in good shape. However as I was walking to the playground, there was a disheveled man sitting on the ground by the bathroom. I tried to get past the paranoia but after 5 minutes I left. Weeks later after another target run, while at the stop light I saw the same guy hanging out by the bathroom stalls. Yea forget it.

It feels like it's dirty or dangerous. Nope! Not this park. Actually, MAYBE!! It's not a place I'd be at night tho. I didn't see too much lighting in the area. And it's in the back of homes and apartments on a side street. Not like it's on or on the side of a MAIN ROAD or anything. So, YEAH... I wouldn't say this place is TOTALLY COMPLETELY SAFE! NO! Just saying that it's a place where you can hang out with a bu ch of friends or family and not be bothered by the traffic in the roads or people coming out of the woodworks watching your event. Oh PARKING IS A B!+[#!! Because it's in a cup de sac road, and NO private parking lot, parking is limited. And the street parking is already taken by the people who lives in the area. So, if there's no parking INSIDE the CUL DE SAC, you'll have to find parking ON THE ROAD or park at the shopping center, and walk your butt down. It's not too far of a walk, but it is a distance. Quarter mile perhaps. Think I may try to hold a birthday party here. But, I don't know if we can pop up tents. Oh! And there's a playground for the kids too! A jungle gym! And YES... there is restrooms. But it looks kind of small. Smaller than MOST PARK RESTROOMS. I didn't check it out, so I don't know how much stalls there is. I'm guessing 2 stalls minimum. 2 toilets for girls & 1 urinal stall & 1 toilet for boys. If I do come back here... I'll repost with mire details. "Thanks for your time & "YIBIDIP, YIBIDIP...
