I'm beyond frustrated with what's happening at Flathead Industries Industries and I think our community needs to talk about it. This is a NON-PROFIT thrift store that receives ALL of its merchandise through donations, yet prices have become completely out of touch with the people they're supposed to serve. Examples from just today: * Dollar-store items priced at $5 * An embroidery hoop priced at $4 -- brand new at Walmart for $3 * Larger hoops at 25¢ at Thrift Haus, our other local nonprofit thrift store * Clothing routinely priced $10-$20 per item What really crossed the line for me was the attitude. When prices are questioned, customers are told: "You can go shop at the clearance center." So... drive 20 miles to shop what didn't sell? Even worse -- a senior citizen in front of me was excited about her "good deals," only to be told by the cashier that the items were accidentally priced too low. That felt humiliating and unnecessary. Publicly available information shows top executives earning around $170,000 per year. Whether you agree with that compensation or not, it's hard not to notice the disconnect between executive pay and pricing policies at a donation-based thrift store. A nonprofit thrift store should: * Help stretch limited incomes * Support seniors, families, and working people * Reflect community values Charging near-retail prices for donated goods is not charitable -- it's unconscionable. We deserve transparency, accountability, and pricing that actually serves the community that donates to and shops at these stores. If you feel the same, speak up. This only changes if people stop staying quiet. * I am going to edit with additional details- On average, only about 20-25% of donated clothing ever sells in thrift stores. The rest is pushed to outlets, sold by the pound, or baled and shipped overseas. The U.S. exports hundreds of thousands of tons of used clothing every year. Much of that clothing -- especially low-quality fast fashion -- cannot be reused and ends up dumped or burned in countries with weak waste infrastructure, causing serious environmental and public-health harm. So when a nonprofit thrift store overprices donated goods, it doesn't reduce waste -- it often increases it, while pushing costs onto local shoppers and exporting the consequences elsewhere. High prices don't equal sustainability. They equal missed reuse, local hardship, and global dumping.

Perhaps the most delightful surprise was discovering that we'd visited Reloved on Free Book Friday so the entire haul came home without a charge! In the end, we walked away with some kitchen tools, an apron, records, a pile of books, and two 100% wool sweaters that I can't wait to wear--all for $14.

It was in the sale section and originally marked for $55, but that number was crossed out and $30 was listed below it. I tried it on and said "I love it, and I'll definitely buy it as that is such a good price," and placed it outside of the dressing room while I tried on another item. After I finished trying on the second item, owner then pointed to the jacket's price tag and said "That's a 3, not a 5 - I couldn't possibly let a piece like this go for less than $50." Considering there was a 5 written right above the contested number, it seemed odd that she was claiming the number below was a 3. I was surprised she blatantly had changed the price on me, and said "ok I would have bought it for $30 but $50 is a little more than I was willing to pay today. I'll think about it and come back tomorrow." The next day, I came back and she told me she still had it but it was no longer for sale as she now thinks it's more valuable than the (raised) price she told me Friday. I, confused, asked why she would be unwilling to sell it to me today if she was willing yesterday, and she said she believes it may be vintage Halston despite the sewn tag on the coat saying "Nordstrom." I said fine and asked if I could take a photo as I liked the fit of the item. She then said "absolutely not, we do not allow pictures." Also worth noting that the owner followed around after me while I was browsing as if she was watching me. The prices in the store are also quite high.

I used her for a kitchen renovation and I would give her 0 stars if I could…read more Nancy operates with questionable business practices. Within the first two months, she pulled the workers off my project to work on another (more expensive) client's renovation, which delayed mine by three months. At the end of the renovation, she attempted to add a fee to the general contractor's bill (her fee disguised as his) with the hope of getting more money. Attempting to pad your colleague's bill is shady and makes me question her character! Nancy has poor project management and communication skills. She didn't order enough hardware for our cabinets or light fixtures which added to the delay. The most irritating thing is that she did not communicate with the general contractor (who is a superb craftsman and visionary!) and didn't pay attention to what he was doing. For example, when the island was installed she wanted it taken apart and repainted because she didn't like the color. She should have worked alongside the contractor and known about such details before items left the shop rather than have a cow after the fact. By that point, I didn't care about the color of the island and left it as is because the renovation was so far behind schedule that it didn't make sense to redo the work and drag out the project even longer. Overall, it was beyond frustrating to work with her. You can do better for $75/hour.
