We decided to stop in after a day exploring Lincoln Park! The cozy, intimate setting was perfect to enjoy a warm bowl of ramen. They definitely needed some help with seasoning, but the soy sauce on the table helped add the perfect touch of salt and umami. I ordered the Vegetable Gyoza Ramen, and was very happy with my choice! As a pescatarian, I loved that they had a choice of veggie broth, and a few ramen options I could try (unlike many ramen places I've been to). I was excited to try the gyozas and thought they were a great addition to the dish! I ordered mine spicy, and although there was a rather hearty scoop of chili paste, I was missing some spice for sure. Next time I will definitely order the extra spicy, and hopefully that will have the kick I was looking for. The broth although pretty tasty, definitely needed some help with seasoning as well. We stumbled upon this cozy Japanese restaurant after shopping around the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Though the space was a bit small, the inside was very intimate. The walls were nicely decorated with fairy lights and interesting chalkboard drawings.  What we ordered: Kameya pork belly ramen: pretty good! It tasted great on a cold Chicago night. We went there on a Saturday evening and the staff told us that it was a 5 minute wait. I thought it was funny and why not! There are valentine's decor up and it's so cute and romantic! I also really loved the twinkling fairy lights but I was sitting against them on the ledge of the window. It was not uncomfortable per se; it was just very narrow and inconvenient especially with all the big winter coats. They got a bit busy but the staff were still very friendly and service was great nevertheless. We got the Takoyaki, Kameya Ramen (extra spice on the side), Kameya house roll, and Godzilla roll. The ramen was chewy and there was depth to the broth, pork belly was a little overcooked. The makisushi were delicious and the presentation was beautiful - each table had a different picture on their plate. I also got pork gyoza and 911 salmon roll to-go. The gyoza was so yummy  (so was the salmon roll) even after I microwaved it a day later. The wrap was soft on the sides and crunchy on the bottom and the meat inside was not dry. Stopped here while restaurant hopping for a quick bite - Really glad we did. Located in a nice, prime part of Lincoln Park, the restaurant is small but cozy and intimate. A dim restaurant, but decorated very nicely with lights with a calm ambiance. Tables are quite close to each other. You can make a reservation but I don't recommend coming with a large group (more than 4 people). The staff was very welcoming and nice. Our server was kind enough to seat us right away, even without a reservation. This is a great place to try out a bunch of sushi on the menu. I've heard good things about the Ramen as well. We tried the 911 Tuna Roll and the Dragon Roll. Very, very fresh sushi. Their 911 sauce is amazing if you're a fan of spicy. Combining it with the wasabi makes it even spicier. The sushi bar is right in front so you can see the chefs prepare the dishes. Would have ordered the plum wine but they were not serving alcohol at the moment but they did welcome BYOB and there is a market right across the street. This restaurant charges a 3.25% surcharge on your bill. When we asked to remove it, the manager put the teenage server to challenge us on KEEPING the surcharge. In all my restaurants in chicago the surchage is a shameless ploy to get more but once recognized the restaurants are usually fine in removing it, but not this restaurant! We wanted more money going to the servers and not the restaurant. If they want 3.25% then embed it into your menu prices right? Ultimately the manager came out and asked for "cash" to remove the surchage. We left a 25% tip for the server. Shameless and cowardly manager to hide behind a young server in defending a surchage. I was running an errand around the neighborhood and decided to have dinner here. The reviews seemed solid so I gave this place a try and I am so glad I did. Even though it seems this place is mostly for takeout you can still come and get a table. We got a small table for 2 in the middle of the restaurant but it was perfect. I love small restaurants like this. I knew it was legit when I saw the fresh seafood displayed. I started with pork gyoza which was good but not the best I've had. However the Kayema ramen was so delicious, Japanese pork noodles and pork belly make a fabulous combination. My brother ordered the salmon paradise roll and it was as he described "one of the best sushi rolls" he ever had. The addition of lime on top really set it apart from any other sushi roll I've had before. All in all great experience and our server was nice and helpful. Was highly recommended by my boyfriend to try this sushi spot if I ever went to Chicago so we made time in our trip to come by. We came here a little early on Tuesday. The chef was kind enough to let us in early since it was freezing cold outside to wait and skim through the menu. They're a small little restaurant near starbucks & the dry cleaner that probably seats only 16-20 people. Environment is very cute. Dark ceiling with fairy string lights. Restroom is the size of an airplane bathroom. Very cramped so not suitable for parents with kids if they have to go in with them. Was recommended their salmon toro so we had ordered 2 rounds each, also gotten the hamachi belly, kameya B and shrimp tempura. Their salmon belly was fatty. You can tell the difference when you order their regular salmon vs their toro cut. I felt like I've had better but their salmon toro definitely was good as well. It didn't fully melt in my mouth but still buttery. Some cut was VERY fishy. Hamachi belly was better in my opinion. It wasn't as fishy compared to the toro. Shrimp tempura batter was good but I felt like the batter was a little undercooked. It wasn't as crispy and you can taste that the batter was a little mushy. I liked their kameya B platter as you were able to sample a little of everything. Their white tuna was very delicious. It was probably my favorite nigiri on the platter. Their spicy tuna was different than what I'm used to. It didn't have the same dark red colored paste and wasn't as spicy. It almost tasted like they used canned tuna with some minor sriracha which wasn't bad either cause I don't often like spicy tuna rolls. The chef kindly gave us miso soup to enjoy with our meal and I have to say, that was the best miso soup I've had at any sushi restaurant. It wasn't overly salty and had a good amount of seaweed and tofu. It definitely complemented each nigiri well and helped settle my stomach from overeating. We were the only 2 eating inside the restaurant and had a couple of people who had stopped by for pick ups. I thought it was funny that we came before their server because the sushi chef served us the entire time until a female later showed up and grabbed our plates at the end. Sushi chef was super friendly. Customer service was great but again, we were the only table. He was super friendly and made us feel welcomed. Awesome family owned restaurant! The Kameya family really knows how to treat their customers well and provide excellent food- you can really tell that most of the diners are frequent and loyal. We were greeted well upon dining, and served like family. The atmosphere is quaint, nicely lit, and cozy. We started with some appetizers- tempura shrimp and veggies, tuna sashimi salad, and gyoza. I especially liked the salad, and the other apps were yummy too. We also ordered a few rolls, including the rainbow roll and house roll. I was pleasantly surprised at how fat these rolls were and how fresh the fish was! Definitely a lot more filling than I anticipated. To finish off our meal, we had the seafood ramen, which was very very spicy but absolutely delicious. The seafood was plenty in this excellent dish, and I wish I had more room in my stomach to finish it! We had to leave some leftover...sigh... The hamachi kama is what you need to try here. They season it so perfectly and cook it until a light crispy layer develops on the outside, yet the inside maintains a tender and juicy consistency. It's heavenly! This place also stands out for its wonderful staff, especially our server who is the sweetest lady. Sushi here is pretty good too, although I thought the unagi sauce was a bit to salty, I really didn't need to dip my sushi in any soy sauce. I spotted this place earlier this past summer and thought it looked adorable, and then went here for dinner recently on a whim. I'm a big fan of sushi, so I was obviously psyched! The ceiling inside looks like the night sky: it is painted black, with white stringed lights pinned to it. It's adorable. My boyfriend and I walked in around 7:30 on a Wednesday night and easily found a table for two. I was excited just by looking at the menu, and noticed there was also a chalkboard with the "catches of the day" listed as well! TO DRINK: I ordered a bottle of Asahi Dry, because you *have* to while eating at a Japanese restaurant! My boyfriend got a large bottle of Kirin, for the same reason: ya gotta! TO START: We ordered fried gyoza (5 pieces) and he had a house salad as well. If you're looking for a recommendation for an appetizer, I'd say the gyoza is great for two people, because the sushi is filling! FOR OUR MAIN COURSE: I wanted ~all~ of the rolls, but I know I get full easily, so I ordered the Mango Martini Roll (crab, cucumber, avocado, mango sauce on top, lightly fried), and a classic rainbow roll. My boyfriend got the catch of the day Oyster rolls, which came served in actual oysters, along with the 911 Tuna (extra spicy) and the French roll (comes with cheese on it!). It troubles me to have to leave a bad review about this place because they went the extra mile to give me a vegetarian free snack with "order greater than $25", however, I got the Sushi/sashimi plate and the pieces were absolutely halves of any size I've ever purchased anywhere. On top of that, the yellow tail was very old. My friend got the teriyaki salmon and it was questionably aged and drowned in sauce. Vegetables were lackluster (microwaved?) as well.
