The service is great - I've had the same waitress both times here and she is such a sweetheart and very attentive. In general this place is very lowkey and a true hole-in-the-wall. There's constant online orders with people picking up takeout, I however dined in both times and I'm glad I did! The sushi - phenomenal. It's always so so fresh and I like the rolls they have. I specifically like their crunchy spicy salmon roll spicy trip roll, and mini Godzilla roll. It's all affordable too! What an easy 5-star review for Gorilla Sushi! You will not find better value sushi in Chicago- bold statement I know. I have driven past them countless times and finally decided to stop in on a Sunday for lunch. It was the perfect casual date spot. We were the only ones dining-in around 1PM, but there were multiple food delivery drivers picking up orders during the time of our visit. We ordered the Crispy Bagel Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, Dragon Roll and Redeye Roll. This was the perfect amount of food to share between 2 people. I also started with an Iced Matcha Latte, which was delicious- not sweet and had a strong matcha flavor. All of that came out to just over $50-- what a deal!! As far as my most recommended roll, I can't even choose between the Dragon Roll or Crispy Bagel Roll because they were both scrumptious; you really can't go wrong. They have a list of basic rolls that cost just $3.95, the Salmon Avocado Roll included. I thought it was absolutely perfect for the price. Our waitress was so nice and attentive, juggling our table with all the takeout orders she was managing. She checked on us multiple times and made sure our water glasses were always filled. I've driven past this place a few times and we finally decided to stop by. It's a small restaurant but the servers were so sweet and kind! I just wish we were told about the specialty rolls on the board. We were sitting next to a loud group and since it is small it can get loud but that just comes with the territory! The miso soup was really good and came out hot. They brought over a whole thing of water to the table which was nice. And had ginger on the table readily available which is awesome for me since I always ask for extra. I ordered 2 tuna avocado rolls which I loved and the pricing is great too! This place is my go-to takeout place for sushi!! The portions are decent, and you can't beat the price! My favorites that I always get are spicy tuna, saba, hamachi, and miami roll. It's ok at best, but it's priced for the quality of sushi so can't complain I suppose. It's great prices, truly. 4 or 6 piece rolls for $4 to $6. You can really get a lot of sushi and it's a great opportunity to try lots of different combinations or fish. Honestly though, it's not the best quality sushi. For instance, we got a salmon avocado roll and there was more avocado than salmon. We got an unagi roll and the unagi sauce was super liquidy with more cucumber than unagi. The unagi roll was the most disappointing. We did quite like a spicy salmon roll with salmon and roe on top as it was a good combo of flavors, but not really the highest quality of fish either on the inside or on top. I have to say that having gone to the Gorilla Sushi in Albany Park already I was kind of disappointed. The pieces are a lot smaller in size compared to the ones in the other location. I also felt all the pieces were smashed together to fit them in the little container. The sushi tasted good, just not amazing as the one I had from the location in Albany Park, and I felt it wasn't so feeling because of the pieces' sizes. Okay, I am a massive creature of habit, so when I find a gem of a business, I will support them HARD. I randomly found Gorilla sushi on Grubhub and it was a match made in heaven. 5 stars for value, taste, freshness, accuracy, speed, and consistency! Also, side note, this review is about food I get delivered, I have never dined in the restaurant. AND I am a strong believer that this is the best location. I'm pretty indecisive when it comes to choosing sushi rolls, so I LOVE that they offer smaller rolls. I'll normally grab like 4 smaller rolls and an app, usually the bazooka jalapeño, which is like a deep fried tuna jalapeño popper! It's in a convenient location & has pretty cheap / fairly priced sushi ($4 for very simple rolls, $9-10 for more speciality, $14 on the higher end) Is it the best sushi ever... no but you also probably shouldn't expect that here. My order was ready on time and the worker was very kind. The fish was fine (not like insanely fresh but no red flags) & they used solid greens for the salad. I think it's better to carry out than dine in but if you needed a place to sit, the interior is fine. We ordered the jalapeno appetizer and I ate the garnish salad and while trying to eat the bug dropped onto my plate. I assume this was due to the leaves not being rinsed. I was disgusted and we left shortly after. I feel almost guilty writing this review as I have had good experiences with them via delivery, but after being served a bug it ruined my appetite for sushi for some time. The server who tried to bring us food offered to remake it but didn't understand the problem at hand and was very kind about their mistake. Got me wondering tho... even days later. Did I eat a bug? Like thank the lord it fell onto my plate while trying to eat. Cheap, tasty sushi. Need I say more? If you're craving sushi but don't want to spend a ton of money, this is definitely the place to go. $3 gets you 6 standards rolls (sweet potato, cucumber spicy tuna, crunchy spicy salmon, etc.) or 4 specialty rolls (e.g. Miami roll, mini godzilla rolls, etc.). I dined in with a few friends and we each ordered a few different sushi flavors we wanted to try and had a pretty big feast for under $10 each. I really liked how they had a jar of pickled ginger on the table and we could take however much we like. They also had plenty of chopsticks and napkins in case things got a little messy or we dropped our chopsticks. This is pretty convenient since at most other places we'd have to wait for a waiter to stop by to give us these things. There wasn't a huge variety of flavors to choose from, but I was okay with that because sometimes, having too many options can be kind of overwhelming. I have been to both the Lincoln Park and Clark location multiple times before, and I believe this location is superior to both of them. This location provides superior quality sushi with fantastic service. For anyone who hasn't been to either location, I think this is a great spot. It's puts a great face to the Gorilla Sushi chain. I went at around 2pm on a Friday and I was the only one dining. I was able to sit anywhere I wanted, and I ordered very quickly. The menu at this location is better organized and presented than the other two locations I've been to. My sushi came in under 10 minutes and all the rolls came out at once (unlike what they do at the Clark location where they come out as they're finished). The sushi was top notch. I ordered the spicy trio roll, Miami roll, mini Godzilla, spicy crunchy salmon, and dynamite roll. Each roll had a decent rice to fish ratio, and I didn't find any of them to be disappointing. My waitress gave me a last call on ordering sushi before they closed, which I thought was a nice touch. This location also did not have an issue with mildewy ginger and the decor is better than the Clark location's. I'm not sure why the Clark location is so coffee shop girly quirky. One interesting thing I noted was that a few of the rolls were different in quality this location. In particular, the spicy trio roll (my favorite roll at all of the locations) was tastier at this location than the Clark location's because they had an actual delicious crunch on the inside, although on the other side the Miami was actually smaller than Clark's, which I didn't mind because that roll is usually a little overwhelming. Definitely a great spot to get a quick fix on a sushi craving, especially on a bu ***Update *I recently noticed that Gorilla sushi raised all the $3 sushi items to $4 on online delivery services. I can confirm that this has not changed in the physical restaurant. Additionally, it is likely that you will be the only diner in the restaurant if you go at lunch time. Gorilla sushi is like one of my go to, all-time favorite spots when I am looking for something quick, cheap, and easy for dinner. All of the rolls are super reasonably priced! I can usually get three different rolls for about 10 bucks. As a vegan, I recommend the sweet potato roll and the asparagus roll. I think it was more so the disappointment with this place. So I was really happy to try this place out because I heard great things from my friends. I was also really excited because you could order half rolls, which let you try different things on the menu and drastically cut down on the price. I ordered delivery. I ordered a umo umo roll, red dragon roll and a tigger roll. It came all packaged together in a very small take out container about 1/2 the size of a normal size sushi container. I opened the box and there was 12 pieces of penny sized sushi with seaweed salad all over the place. I get it if maybe the presentation isn't great because it's delivery, but at least give me a full portion. The penny sized sushi was frankly insulting. In addition I couldn't tell the difference between any of the rolls. I think some had spice? It all tasted the same. There were actually pictures on the app that showed three rolls would take up a small side plate. I did not take a picture to show how wrong that assumption was but if my entire box could fit on a side plate... you know that the restaurant was intentionally misleading its customers. I get it raw high grade fish is a pricey commodity and these restaurants need to make ends meet but come on, do not intentionally rip off your customers. read more

Have been trying to find a sushi place in the area that I would come back to and this is it! Fish is fresh and size of rolls are in line with price. Not all spicy tunas are created equal, but the spicy tuna here is solid (still has a kick but not too much chili oil). The hamachi nigiri was great as well! I accidentally stumbled to this Gorilla Sushi on Diversey when I had been planning on going to the one in Logan Square - I wasn't paying attention to my GPS and only realized the mistake when I "arrived at my destination". There was free street parking and sushi was still $3 so I decided to try it out. This location feels a bit smaller than the Logan Square location. It also had a pungent food smell when we arrived (not a smell I recognized) which perhaps point to the fact that ventilation in this restaurant is lacking. There weren't many people here yet it took a while for the sushi to come out. Sadly the sushi here was a disappointment, all because of the rice. The rice was so mushy you couldn't even tell there was grains of rice on the sushi roll. The actual ingredients inside the rolls are ok (for $3 price point) and the size of the rolls are of course smaller than your typical roll. This place is great for students on a budget who want to satisfy their sushi craving but they really need to get their rice standard up. The experiences I've had at the Gorilla Sushi in Logan Square have been positive, so I'll probably just go there when I crave cheap sushi. read more

Comparing this to Godzilla in Jefferson Park, I give this an A- Fresh sushi, made to order. We didn't feel rushed to leave. The only downside was slow service for a Sunday dinner around 6. We asked the server for recommendations. He gave us a few and we loved it. I decided on this place because I wanted my friend to try sushi for the first time especially with prices and you can share different plates with a group. We even saved room for the three desserts. Highly recommend trying the melon Popsicle, very refreshing. Our bill was $52 (16 items in total), not bad at all. We left with full bellies and our pockets not so empty haha. My friend kept saying she'd love to come back and the server said, "please do." We definitely will. I'm not going to lie, I'm not a huge sushi person, I'm still learning with the help of this spot. First of all, the price is right. Everything is very reasonably priced which is the first bonus. Next, the variety was great which I did not take advantage of because I only like sweet potato rolls currently but when I expand my horizons, this will be the place to go back to. The rolls were small but I liked that since it made navigating chopsticks easier...another thing I am still learning. All in all, great experience and I will be back for more. read more

Let me start with saying I eat Gorilla Sushi all the time. It's quick, easy and cheap. It's been a year that I've been a customer and the size of these rolls have gotten SO SMALL and the fish is getting so stingy. The rolls shrink every time I order it. I actually have a side by side comparison of the two same rolls and how much smaller and less sashimi on top they are providing. I guess they've readjusted what a $3 roll looks like.
