CONCERN There seems to be no accountability there. The chairs, walls in the rooms etc are nasty and have filthy stains. I was afraid to sit in the chairs. This is at a health facility! In one room it looks like some splashed body fluids on the walls the area were you change your clothes to be seen. For the past 3 years coming to the facility I have had to wait 1 sometimes 2 hours to be seen even after setting an appointment. Most of the time the doctor have forgotten and begin seeing other patients. I have grown use to I usually bring something to work on now because I already know I will be waiting long. Sometimes I will just ask to reschedule to help the doctor get back track with patients! I have never seen anything like this before. read more

be careful when answering questions. Went to Kamm Mackenzie last year for the first time & it was ok, but got a bill a year later for a "service." I went for my first visit there, my daughter went two weeks prior. We both had the same insurance. Both of ours should've been a zero dollar co-pay. I got a bill for $25 a year later. When I called to ask about that bill, They said it was because there was a question that led to a discussion on menopause and that was a billable charge, which essentially added up to an additional office visit. I am 52 years old. I was asked about menopause and then showed a supplement that I was taking to see if it did not have estrogen in it because I am a breast cancer survivor. Apparently, when you go for a yearly visit, you cannot ask any questions because that could turn into a billable charge. No wonder insurance companies are raising the prices. 1-15 minute visit constituted 2 charges. read more

I gave birth to a baby boy in November and went to Kamm McKenzie OBGYN. I had originally signed up with the practice over a year ago based on recommendations from friends. In my circle of friends seven ladies have either delivered with Kamm Mckenzie OBGYN or are planning to in the next few months. To me that is a pretty large sample size of happy pregnant woman. I know it can be hard to get an appointment when you are not pregnant, but when you are pregnant they work hard to fit you in at a time that fits your schedule. The scheduler was great at making sure we had visited every doctor by the end of my pregnancy. I usually went in on Friday mornings for my appointment and never had to wait more than 15 minutes to see the doctor. I was fortunate and didn't have complications during pregnancy so the appointments were pretty quick and straight forward. If I had questions, each doctor took the time to answer them, if I didn't have any questions they made sure I was sure of that! It is a big practice, that is a downside since you have no idea who will deliver your baby and you may like some providers more than others. But, I feel like that is definitely the norm these days and because of this you don't have to worry about your appointment being rescheduled because your doctor is attending a delivery. Another benefit of Kamm Mckenzie is that they deliver at WakeMed Raleigh aka Big WakeMed. They are the only other practice besides WakeMed OBGYN that delivers there. The hospital has one of the lowest c-section rates in the country which was important to me. On delivery day I first interacted with Dr Bernstein and then Dy Byrd. I feel so lucky that Dr Byrd was the doctor who delivered my son. She is a sweet, caring, and upbeat doctor. I loved having her encouragement in the delivery room and seeing her for my postpartum appointment. I can't recommend her enough! read more

If you are in the office to see a doctor, it is great! The outside service is horrible. They have an automated system that provides no personal contact. I have been a patient for over 30 years. I wasn't aware that I was past due on my yearly appointment. I needed my medicine. I tried for 2 days to get to a person to speak with. I left a message, obviously upset and the response was a generic insensitive text from a person. I finally got through to a living person by choosing the "0" for emergency. I spoke to Ms. Medlin, who explained that basically I am no longer important enough for a phone call but a text should be sufficient. Scheduled an appt to get my meds but NEVER going back there. Oh, and that's just coming from the front office staff IF you ever get to talk to them on the phone. Don't bother leaving a voicemail they won't respond, because "there's only 2 of us, and we can't get back to everyone." Meh. You are definitely just a number at Kamm Mckenzie. I would HIGHLY recommend looking for care elsewhere if you are pregnant and want a personalized and caring birth experience. Kamm McKenzie is more like a baby factory and you're just a generic part of the assembly line. Additionally, at 9 weeks, I called in expressing concerns due to irregular cramping and other symptoms. Kamm McKenzie would not bring me in for a sonogram to check on the baby. Instead, I ended up going to another OBGYN who gladly saw me the next day to address my concerns. Kamm McKenzie was zero help. Also, on my first 2 hour appointment for my pregnancy, I never even saw a doctor. So strange. And when the nurse practitioner did my 10 week sonogram, it was super short and lack-luster. Very prescriptive. No joy or warm fuzzies at this place. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a birth experience. read more

My Doctor retired he was the best! I then saw Erica Stephenson I have had depression for around 20 years medicine was not working like it use to I had a pap smear so I was talking to her about medicine. She told me I needed to find another doctor I wouldn't do what she told me so she couldn't help me anymore! You never know what someone is going through my mom had just died and I was having a terrible time .A doctor should never tell you something like that when you are doing good to get through the day it could have been a bad situation for me at the time.Try and be kind to people they could really need it especially from a Doctor read more

I have been a patient of Kamm McKenzie since I moved to Raleigh 12 years ago. I think they are awesome. However- on my last check up visit I had Dr. Bernstein. I have never been his patient. As a 56 year old woman who is post menopausal, I asked about HRT and painful sex issues. He dismissed my HRT request and when I told him I have suffered from severe depression, he joked that his wife uses him as her personal Medicine cabinet for depression. Obviously I was alarmed and tried to redirect him to how serious depression can be. He laughed, ignored my request for a conversation on HRT, ordered a bone scan and sent me on my way with suppositories for my vaginal dryness. Very unprofessional, I left feeling dismissed and will never go back there again. read more

Mediocre at best. I received a routine pap in May of 2019. The PA said I had high grade cells and that I was to come back for a colposcopy with Dr. Byrd. Once I arrived, she looked at me and said "I wouldn't have requested you come back for what I'm seeing but we're going to do it anyway." Great. Money for nothing. Then, I was asked to come back for a repeat of a test due to Dr. Byrd not extracting enough testable material during the first procedure. Fast forward to a year later and I'm still dealing with their lab company and bills. Despite their lame effort to make sure I wasn't charged for a second colposcopy, I was charged and the outside testing company they use has charged me TWICE for their negligence. If I could give 0 stars, I would. It has taken almost a year, but I am finally able to share a brief overview of why I will never step foot in Kamm McKenzie again or recommend them to anybody seeking OB services. We were understandable devastated last year to find out that our unborn baby had Trisomy 13. Kamm McKenzie was informed of this from the labs 6 days prior to sharing the news with us (which required multiple attempts of contact to receive the results). We were told that the provider was on vacation, and therefore we were expected to understand their inability to to share such time sensitive results. They then washed their hands of all involvement with required care moving forward and told us they'd put in a referral to a specialist and we'd be hearing from them "in a few days." This insincere treatment towards such a traumatic situation combined with the cold approach experienced by office staff, doctors, nurse practitioner (one in particular) was the final straw. Appointments that should have been 20 minutes max always ended up being at least 1-1.5 hours complete with rolled eyes from any staff when asked if I could expect to be seen soon. I could go on with more, but PLEASE do not even consider Kamm McKenzie as an OBGYN if quality is what you're looking for. read more

He's funny, makes me feel comfortable, and always looks out for my best interest. Every single nurse has been kind, helpful, and personable. I'm sure I'll go to this practice forever! read more

if you want a team of doctors who are always available (call or text), see a lot of complicated pregnancie, and are the only OBGYN last I checked to deliver at wake Med off New Bern Ave in Raleigh, where they have the absolute best infant care unit... in other words, I believe you and your baby are more likely to survive and thrive with these doctors. They are not judgemental and have no alternate agenda, so you can speak freely.They delivered both of my babies. I had minor complications along the way that were handled with zero strife. Sure, they aren't lighting fast, and you might find other complaints with the paperwork or something, but when it comes to the medical part, I highly recommend! read more

I've been coming here for years (ever since I moved to the Triangle) but today was NOT my normal experience and I had to say something. Normally I would contact the office directly with my concerns, but I couldn't find a way to do that on the website. Specifically, my problem is with your front desk staff. Cynthia (or Cindy?) was incredibly rude to me from the moment I walked in today. She just stared at me when I I walked in, didn't greet me or say anything so I told her my first name and that I was there for an appointment. She then asked my name...so I told her again. Then she literally shook her head at me and threw her hand up in the air. Apparently she was trying to get my last name, which I understand I should have given from the beginning, but I was taken aback by her behavior. I work in a dental office...people walk in and tell me just their first name all the time. Guess what? I've never shook my head at any of them. Usually I can see their appt on my scheduler with just the first name anyway (I was one of 2 people in the waiting room today...it couldn't be that hard to figure out who I was). Even so, I understand that not all software is the same and maybe she needed my last name to look at anything. Fine, ask me my last name. Don't shake your head at me. She proceeded to be rude throughout the check in process. Clearly she could tell I was irritated, too. Then, she proceeded to fuss at me about not standing in the right place while trying to check out (I was trying to stay 6 feet away from another woman-where she tried to make me move was not 6 feet away). She didn't care about us at all, that much was obvious. She seemed irritated that she had to be there. I get it-working in a medical office during COVID is very stressful. I have to wear an n95 all day and sweat to death under layers of PPE. I still don't treat my patients like that. I've NEVER been treated that poorly by front desk staff in my life. They are the literal face of your office. The first experience someone has with your office may be this person, and that is not good for you guys. If I was a new patient, I don't think I would be back. That being said, the nurses and other staff once you get into the back are WONDERFUL. I wish I had taken the name of the young lady who did my intake (BP and iron). Young blonde girl-she was really nice and immediately made me feel comfortable again. If she hadn't been so great, I can't say I would be giving as many stars as I am. Erica, who did my pap, was also nice and answered any questions I had. I usually see Missy (and I absolutely LOVE Missy) but I needed the first available appointment on my day off. I would strongly encourage Kamm McKenzie to do some sensitivity training with your front desk staff or consider moving Cynthia to a position that doesn't involve dealing with patients. She is obviously not a people person. I was just there for a routine check up, and I'm usually really easy to get along with and polite. I can't imagine if someone came in who was distraught or upset in any way. She would have moved them to tears, and I'm not kidding. read more

The physicians are perfectly fine, this is why I give them a couple of stars, but if you are pregnant they recommend you meet with every physician in the team because you don't know who will get to deliver your baby, so you don't get to have a good relationship with your OB like you do in other places. But my real issues are with the billing department. No one told me that with my insurance I wouldn't be able to deliver at Wake Med (because it is out of network), and I only found out when they sent me there for a specialist and I got their bill in the mail. They have a partnership with Rex, so I went there, but that meant I didn't know the person who would be delivering my baby at all (so I didn't need to be seen by every single doctor at KM). But if that wasn't annoying enough, their billing process has been an absolute NIGHTMARE! They made me pay them for delivery (even though it wasn't going to be with them) and they said they would pay Rex, but that wasn't the case and Rex almost sent me to collections. Then I got a Refund from KM fro most of my money, and now they are claiming I owe them half of what they return to me. Of course I have called to clear it up but I have been waiting for a call back for a week. Honestly, save yourself the trouble. You can find physicians just as good anywhere else and hopefully they won't torture you with an absurd billing process. read more

Today was the last straw. I've been going to Kamm McKenzie for a few years now. I'm not pregnant and have never been. I get the impression that if you aren't, then you are not prioritized at all. After all, babies are where the money is in the profession. But I'm still a human. And I still need GYN care. Their appt scheduler only goes out a couple of months so there is no making your annual appt for next year after the one this year. So I had to call to get one later this year. I call. Nothing is open and I need to call back. I call back and they tell my to try in two weeks. Today was that day. I called and they said that the schedule for December was full and I could try next year. What? No. I shouldn't have to beg for an appt. Their system is failed and I have been doing this back and forth for years. Most appts I don't even see my dr. I see an NP. Not ideal for some things. So today I hung and gave up on the headache that is Kamm McKenzie. I found another wonderfully reviewed practice and got an appt in November in a matter of minutes. Kamm McKenzie is a headache to schedule. You won't be seen by your dr. You are shuffled around that office like cattle. There is no care or personality. I've sat in the room naked for an hour or more before. The appt's are quick and clinical which is NOT something you want when naked and spread Eagle. Today was the end of all that and I encourage whomever is reading this to try elsewhere before you sucked into this black hole like I did. You'll be happier elsewhere. read more

I recently switched my OBGYN to Kamm, McKenzie after several references pointed me in their direction. I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with my first child and although the appointment I had with them was just my initial consult, the entire experience was worth a 5 star review. After receiving unpleasant customer service and medical advice from a previous OBGYN, I decided to call around to other offices in the area. Many of my friends suggested Kamm, McKenzie, even my ultrasound technician at REX, so I decided to make the call. From the moment I called the office, I knew I had found my new OB. The receptionist happily greeted me on the phone and passed me along to office appointment manager, Kathy, who was kind enough to get me in THAT WEEK to be seen - a rarity in doctors offices. When I arrived, I was greeted with smiles and pleasant "good mornings" from the front desk ladies and only waited about 10 minutes to be seen. Kristen, the nurse who assisted me first, was amazing! She walked me through everything and I was reassured I would be well taken care of in their office. She was attentive, answered all of my questions and was very personable which helped me relax. Being this is my first child, I was hoping for an OB office that would provide some guidance along the way and I knew I would receive this here. After my consult with Kristen, I met with Dr. Rush who was wonderful. She sat with me and went over my previous medical history and happily answered all of my questions in detail. She was very informative, giving me a breakdown of what to expect in the future weeks of my pregnancy. Going to the Doctors in general can make many people nervous and anxious. Then when you add being a new mom on top of that, it doubles. The entire customer experience from phone to visit matters. Many medical offices don't realize how much we rely on them for guidance, advice and reassurance. I left Kamm, McKenzie feeling positive and excited about what lies ahead for this pregnancy, something I could never say about my other OB experience. I have had two very textbook pregnancies and deliveries with Kamm Mckenzie and always thought SO highly of the practice. Unfortunately, I've since had two back to back miscarriages with the second one being at 12 weeks. Amanda Tattersall was amazing and so compassionate when we learned we would need a D&E procedure in the hospital. This is when the problems start... Dr. Buckheit performed the D&E, it went well but I left the hospital without a Rhogam shot which I need because of my blood type. I got home and immediately started feeling awful. I will spare the details but I had some very bad side effects and passed out. My husband frantically called the emergency line which just continued to ring... he called 911 because we thought I was hemorrhaging. He called and texted the nurses line and left messages.... we didn't hear back until the next day. I also had to go to the office the day after my procedure for the Rhogam shot Dr. Buckheit didn't administer which just felt cruel. Fast forward a week and the same awful situation happens, no answer from the on call doctor after they were paged numerous times so we rushed to the hospital. I needed an immediate procedure because I had a fever and had developed an infection. Most recently, I've been waiting for lab results that I should have had yesterday morning at the latest and keep getting the run around that the provider is too busy to review them. read more

I was told by the doctor that when I got another pregnancy test, I could come in right away instead of having to wait the month I did before. Well the other day I got a few positives and called, expecting to be allowed to come in ASAP. Nope. Not only was that promise not upheld, the receptionist spoke to me as if I was a complete idiot. I met with Dr. Bernstein this morning and practically skipped out of the office I was so happy. He was beyond nice and made me feel so comfortable. I am new to the area and feel relieved to have found a great practice and a really great doctor. My husband and I are planning to start trying for our second baby in a few months and I feel confident doing that now that I have this group of doctors. Any woman who has had a baby knows that you spend a lot of time at the dr's office and it's important to like the staff and most importantly the doctor. Though I am a new patient to Kamm McKenzie, I have been thoroughly impressed with my visits so far. The staff and doctors are all very friendly and knowledgeable, and I truly feel like I'm in good hands. I haven't had to wait too long for my appointments so far. In fact, most times I've been in and out quite quickly. I like how they perform the ultrasounds in the office. My previous provider in the DC area referred me to a radiological center which was fine, just not as convenient so it's nice to stay in the same building! I look forward to seeing the doctors throughout my pregnancy and beyond! Update (12/8/16): Throughout my pregnancy, I saw most of the doctors (don't think I ever saw Dr. Rush) and liked each of them for different reasons. I had a minor scare about halfway through, and though the doctors weren't convinced there was a problem, my concerns were not taken lightly. I really appreciated that and didn't feel like I was "bugging" them. Each time I called and left a message with the nurse my call was promptly returned, and scheduling appointments was easy. The wait time in the office was often minimal, and each of my visits was pleasant. Dr. Wheeler ended up delivering my baby and I couldn't have been happier with the level of care provided. She even let me pick what music to listen to in the OR. Overall, I couldn't recommend this practice more and am happy I found it. read more

Delivered my child in 2013 and I loved the practice. Very patient and willing to listen to many concerns and Dr. Harden was wonderful during labor allowing me to have a lot of freedom that the hospital nurse said wasn't always common. (Laboring in the tub, etc). The missing 5th star is for Dr. Bass. I saw him twice during my pregnancy. The first time he lectured me on "gaming" the insurance system by asking about a form to get a free breast pump. He told me how it wasn't necessary and was extremely condescending. Since I was returning to work fairly soon afterhaving my baby (and was struggling tremendously with the associated guilt) his comments really weren't appreciated. The second time I saw him he checked and manually stretched my cervix causing spotting at the end of my pregnancy. I read afterwards that this is sometimes a common practice however I was very uncomfortable that he neither asked or informed me as to what he was doing beforehand. He said he was going to check, something that I had experienced before, and suddenly it was very painful. I probably would have consented (because I wanted that baby out!!) But I don't think it was ok to do without asking or informing, and when I began bleeding later that afternoon, I called the office in a panic, as he had not let me know that this was a possible outcome. Overall my experience with the staff was wonderful and I would recommend, but since you don't control which doctor will be on call and deliver your child, I will not be back for my next pregnancy. read more

I have been going here for 23 years. They have always taken care of me and I have had a few issues here and there and was always in good hands with them. They handled both of my pregnancies and I could not have been happier with the care I was given. The only reason I am taking a star away is the wait time. Sometimes they are on the money but there have been many times where I have been in a room waiting for too long. This place is the grinch. My wife went there once to get checked out and have a few tests completed. Our insurance is limited and we basically pay most of the costs out of pocket. Her visit was in August and we got a bill September/October timeframe. It was paid in October in full based on that bill (150.21). Another charge must have posted shortly after that bill was sent out because we then got two statements over the next 45 days with another charge left (29.67). My company had recently switched HSA vendors and so my new HSA had become depleted. With Christmas around the corner and me needing to setup a direct deposit to my HSA I was a little slow addressing the gigantic $29.67 balance we owed them. The middle of December less than 60 days after my last payment of $150 we received a letter basically demanding the remaining $29.67 or be sent to collections. This is a week and a half before Christmas. It's not like I wasn't going to pay the $29.67 bill. It just had not been a priority with Christmas and all that. I just feel the letter and timing of the letter was in bad taste given the amount and the season. I mean I paid more for my lunch today than this bill. Needless to say, i got it taken care of tonight but it really left a bad taste in my mouth for such a small dollar amount with just over a week until Christmas. I run a business myself and just extended a due date for money owed to me from a client by 30 days. That amount of money far exceeds $29.67 i promise you that. read more

I moved to KMOBGYN after my first miscarriage. I had a good experience with my son, but unfortunately had a twin loss in 2019, and a single loss in 2020. i am now pregnant again, and couldn't be more unhappy with how the service seems to have just gone downhill in the last few years. At your confirmation appointment, you're allowed one guest with you. My husband couldn't come in with me because my three year old son counts as a guest, and the receptionist was very rude about telling me, talking down to me, and actually saying to me "you can only have one guest (points at my husband then my son) and you have one....and two." Seriously? You deal with pregnant women, and women come in every day who you have to tell they lost their child. And also-we PAY YOU to help us, not to act like rude little snots. The only redeeming doctors at this practice are Dr. Smith, Dr. Wheeler, Dr. Bass and Dr. Bernstein. not happy at all and seriously thinking about changing my provider after this and my last appointment because of the snotty receptionist. I do not need that when im alreafy worried sick. read more

So I needed to make an appointment due to the fact that my imaging results ordered by my family doctor came back indicating a possibility of cancer. When I called I was told that since my doctor is now retired I have to be considered a "new patient" and the soonest I can be seen is two months away! Really! So the fact that I might have cancer apparently doesn't matter and they don't care. Will NEVER go here again and I will make sure to tell anyone and everyone who wants to hear about this. Terrible way to treat someone with a potential life threatening illness that usually requires immediate attention. read more

I'm officially fed up. I have been a patient here for nine years- and it is progressively worse and worse. Last year when I went for my annual, I was put in an exam room and left there for over an hour with no one coming to check on me or update me. I had to get dressed to go find a nurse to see what was wrong. They forgot about men's. And then the np has the nerve to tell me "well- you're not pregnant so we had other priorities". Um. I am still a person. Against my better judgment I stayed here rather than find a new doctor. I mean- it's just once a year I need to come. But I walked in for my appointment today- and they "lost" it. Basically shrugged at me- I didn't shrug back. I had rearranged my work schedule to be there- and told them so. They told me sit down-- 40 minutes later I was told they would squeeze me in-- with the same doctor I had my appointment scheduled with over a month before. I get that this is not an emergency visit and I am not pregnant. But if you only want pregnant patients say so. Haven't even mentioned that it takes days of trying to call to schedule an appointment because no one answers the phone. Literally- days. You have treated me like less than for the last time. read more

I had my first child with Kamm-McKenzie on the recommendation of my sister in law who had her children with them. I was 42 high risk as I was very overweight. Had my first ever visit and when I FIRST walked in the staff was AMAZING and welcoming! I immediately felt at ease and comfortable. I went in for an issue I needed a second opinion on, and I thought was going to have a bad outcome again but Dr. Alison Kalinowski was TOP notch amazing, she took her time to sit down with me and figure out the best possible way to help me out. She was able to resolve what I thought was a dead end problem, immediately!! I can't thank everyone enough at that office for everything! I don't know that I will ever find the right words to say "thank you" to Dr. Yoon for his kindness during the loss of our first pregnancy at KM. We were ten and a half weeks pregnant with our first born when we discovered we miscarried due to a genetic mutation. To say we were devastated wouldn't even cut it. When we arrived to WakeMed for the D&E, Dr. Yoon came and sat with me in preop room and genuinely apologized for our loss and listened to me vent and cry about it before even beginning to discuss the days plans. He didn't rush me and did everything he could to comfort me and reassure me that it wasn't my fault and to explain exactly what caused it in layman's terms before even starting to review the days plans. He then explained what was to come and came back to check on me (and my family in the waiting room) multiple times and suggested ways for us to decipher what happened to keep it from happening again. He had also reviewed in depth my medical records ahead of time from over 5 years prior to ensure he had a game plan just in case I had a bleeding episode (I don't clot well) and that every single nurse was aware of the plan ahead of surgery. In what was easily one of the darkest days of my life, Dr. Yoon was a beacon of hope and I will never forget his kindness or compassion. For someone who usually despises men doctors in this field, I can honestly say I've never felt more comfortable than in his care. I cannot say enough about this practice and the bedside manner of their doctors. I am absolutely blown away and will be a lifetime patient of their practice and hope to one day carry a child to term in their care. Highly, highly recommend. read more

Dr. Wheeler is the best GYN in Raleigh. :) She is very personable, professional and approachable. Dr. Wheeler is also very knowledgeable. She has also assured me with questions and provided guidance with medical issues outside of gynecology. I am so happy I found her! read more
