I really didn't want to write this as I hate putting negative energy in the world but I feel I may possibly help somebody by sharing my experience. And to me that is positive. This place was very close to my work so it as extremely convenient for me to take my dress to get tailored on lunch my break so I chose to come here. They charged me $60 to get my dress taken in a tiny bit at the waist and to get the pads out. And it was still too big. I tried to communicate with the lady that I wasn't satisfied and she refused to help me or give me any money off. Now I'm stuck keeping this dress. I am extremely disappointed. She told me she could nothing for me and after I paid she walked away and that was it. You can go here if you want but make sure you ask for the price first and ask what will you do if I'm not satisfied. I might not even wear this dress now. And I can't return it because I've had it tailored. I believe if you want to run a business that gives you lasting customers, you should at least offer to help if your customer isn't happy. I am a very reasonable happy person. She also said she could keep my dress if I didn't pay the $60! Which was so unprofessional. The wedding I am going to is on Saturday and I'm thankful I purchased a back up dress. It will be a game time decision but im extremely dissatisfied as I was so happy I was treating myself to a tailored fitted dress. word of mouth is the most important refferal system as it cost no money in marketing and I would have been a wonderful referral system for this lady as well, as everyone asks me for referrals for everything. I was just treated very rudely at Kam's alterations. I brought a dress in for a very simple snap to be sewed on, and the snap was defective. (a feather could have unsnapped it) When I brought the dress back to have it remedied, the owner or seamstress said that it was my fault???? I asked if she would kindly replace it with a hook and eye and she grudgingly said she would but that she would charge me for it! I have several friends that live in the Vinings area and they said that they have also experienced high prices, rudeness, and poor quality tailoring. Don't go here. Terrible customer service and they have a min transaction of $10 policy they try to scam you with. Nothing is posted in the shop about needing cash and when I tried to get my dress I was told "well we can just charge you $10 instead and run your card." No thanks. Then the lady assured me people prefer that, which is hard to believe. That's fine if you want to have a policy but at least notify your customers so they're not forced to pay a fee. When I asked why they don't post it the guy rudely said "well you're lucky we don't raise our prices," which is a terrible explanation and makes me question the business. Not worth the hassle. Run ATL! Find a seamstress with some INTEGRITY. This business literally stole my money. I requested 4 pairs of pants be shortened. (3 needed to be measured and 1 did not.) The 1 pair that wasn't measured was messy and the hem did not lay flat) Ok, here's what happened. The woman measured 1 leg of each pair of the 3 and marked the other. When she completed them (after a week) 1 leg was shorter than the other in ALL 3 pairs. I returned and asked her to try again. She measured again, agreed that they were not shortened correctly, then stated my legs were not the same length. When I picked up the pants the second time, she had NOT MADE a single alteration!!! The pants were exactly the same. I asked her to return my receipt. She refused. I suspect she did not want me to have the evidence that she worked on them, knowing she did not alter them on the 2nd attempt. Listen to Tasha, Jamie, NJ. Jaclyn D., David W., Julia R., Focis M. Did I mention I witnessed her in an argument with a woman while I was in the dressing room? I should have run then. This will be a hit or miss for you. Don't be a miss! I don't write many reviews, but prior to going here I said I would if the reviews lived up to my experience. I took my bridesmaid dress here due to all of the great reviews, and they were spot on! It only took them a week to get it done, and while I was in there they told a gentleman they could get his pants tailored in 2 days since he needed it in a rush. They took my dress in from a size 10 to a size 4 and it only cost $24!!! Everything fit perfectly and you can't even tell that I had it altered. It looks like it came off the rack! On top of that, everyone was kind, efficient (which I fully appreciate), and even attentive. My car wouldn't start outside of their shop, and the gentleman who works there came out to make sure I was ok and if I needed help. He even told me what it looks like I need to get fixed after we got it started! Definitely has my business for the future!!! Oh and they also accept Visa or Mastercard. read more

They do great work and are well priced. Of course, sometimes there are issues with the people, when they ask when I need things by and I say there's no rush and they demand I pick a day. Then I'll say Monday and she says "MONDAY NO GOOD, HOW BOUT TUESDAY" and I'm then confused why it was so important that I pick the day, since they are the ones doing the work. Pros: They do good work, affordable Cons: None that I can think of at the moment. First of all, to address the critics, if they've been in business for 20 years, they must be doing something right. I have brought all different kinds of clothing here to be hemmed and taken in, coats, shorts, dresses and have always been satisfied with the work as well as the timeliness. They are the most reasonably priced alterations place I've found in Atlanta. I have never taken anything in that needed to be done right away, so for people who do not plan well, this isn't your emergency place. They are super busy all the times I've been in there, so I can imagine that if you need it immediately, it may not happen. I get my stuff back in a week or less, so that should give you an idea of when to expect them to be done. If you need something like a wedding dress altered, common sense says you need more than a month in advance just in case there needs to be additional alterations. As long as they are still in business, I will never go anywhere else to get my clothes altered. Also they have always been super friendly to me, I sometimes bring my little dog in and they love having her run around the shop :) PS: I collect all the wire hangers from them and bring them back whenever I come in. read more

When you rule a place out because of how rudely you were treated over the phone, the place deserves a review. I understand all days are not the best days, but I asked very simple questions, and I was in a fantastic mood before I got on the phone. Now, I'm just angry because of the way that man talked to me. If you can't give me any information over the phone, and I must bring it in, I understand, but you can politely tell me that. Also, there IS a difference between two days and a week, especially when you need something tailored for an interview in less than a week. When I dropped off my bridesmaid dress they were very friendly and professional. Unfortunately, when I went to pick it up today, there were little markings/stains all over the dress. They looked liked smudged fingerprints and there was a shoe imprint like someone had stepped on it. They said that all the stains were there before they started the alterations but they were NOT. Not only would I have noticed it but the lady would have pointed it out when she was initially pinning it. They could of least offered to help steam the stains out but they didn't offer any help or any discount off their services. Now my dress is currently at the dry cleaners-another extra charge for a dress I'll only wear once. Very disappointed. read more

They do an amazing job on my alterations; their seams are straighter and prettier than the original seams in some cases,and the thread color-matching is spot on. Plus, their prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality. I've had to bring and item back before to have the alteration adjusted - they took it with no questions, fixed it perfectly, and didn't charge me a cent more. I won't let anyone else touch my stuff. Having a good tailor opens up TONs more options than if I had to buy everything off-the-rack. Love them! read more

Just had my groomsman suit altered by Kam's. I can't give a 5 star as I have no point of reference - However, they did turn around my alterations in less than a week when no other tailor would promise they could complete the work in time. This saved me from significant embarrassment at the wedding based on how the suit looked originally. I did an online "fitting" (not through Kam's) and I looked incredibly European in my very American frame. As a result, I needed Kam's to let out my jacket as much as possible and now I don't look quite so embarrasing. read more

Great place for alterations! Cheap, fast, and honest. I wanted an alteration done to a suit collar and instead of messing up my suit and taking my money, they told me it wouldn't look right and to leave it as it was. They charged me around $8 to hem my suit pants, very cheap. They also did all my alterations to 2 suits in 3 days because I needed them fast, and they didn't charge me extra to get them so fast. Not happy with the outcome/result of my cushion I had them sew. It was a custom foam piece using thicker material, but I was assured they could do the job during initial discussion. Upon receipt, it was super loose and the stitch work was not straight or even. Looks rushed and floppy, not even and streamline It was shared they had to do by hand, so I would of loved a phone call when this issue came up if they couldn't use their machines to consider proceeding with the project- esp for $75! Nope, did half -arse job and still charged full price. They may do pant hems great, but be hesitate on any specific requests needed. Good luck finding other places. read more

These folks do excellent work. They took up dozens of shirts and pants for me last year and I am enjoying still enjoying them. Many had sadly hung in my closet for several years because of a change in weight...it was like getting not only a new wardrobe but one that was highly custom in fit as well. I should have paid closer attention to the dates of the 5 star reviews that Kam's Alteration Express received here on Yelp, realizing that they date all the way back to 2008. A lot can change in 3 years, especially wherein customer service and management are involved. Perhaps I could have avoided this disastrous experience that has left me searching elsewhere for a competent tailor. It wasn't so much the quality of the alterations that bothered me, in fact, they were done somewhat decently. However, the customer service was extremely lacking. In early May, I dropped off 2 formal dresses to have altered for my sister's wedding in early July. I was given prompt service and a pick-up date of June 20th. I returned from out-of-town on the 22nd and phoned to ensure that the garments were finished. I was on the phone for close to 30 minutes and asked my phone number, my name, my ticket number, the garment color(s), and the color of my ticket approximately 5-6 times. Each response was met with extreme confusion and I was asked several times, "Are you sure that you brought them here? This is Kam's Alteration Express. Did you bring them here?" I was then told that the garments were not there. When inquiring if they were lost, I was told "It's possible. You call me in 30 minutes and I will look for them." After telling the woman that it is her responsibility to call me back, she argued with me for awhile before finally deciding that the customer is always right. I received a phone call 2 minutes later asking if my grandmother had dropped off the garment that I was looking for. Not only did I tell her that there were 2 garments (for the 7th time), I also informed her that my grandmothers are deceased and unless a miracle had occurred, they most certainly weren't dropping off any garments for me. They yelled "wrong number" and promptly hung up the phone. About 10 minutes later, they called and told me that they had found them and that I had misinformed them about the color. I had told them that they were "blue/turquoise" and they said that they were "green." I beg their pardon but why were they looking my order up by garment color when they have my name, phone number, and ticket number as reference. Wouldn't that be a better system of classification? The employees were rude to me when I picked up the garments, most likely because I "freaked out" when I was told that my bridesmaid's dress might be lost. I wasn't even given a "thank you" or an apology for the poor customer service. The dresses weren't steamed and overall, I wasn't satisfied with any part of the experience at Kam's. The only thing that was reasonable was the price, which was still too much to pay considering all of the anguish and stress that they put me through. read more

I jus downloaded this app specifically to write a review about this place. AWFUL. STAY AWAY. They altered something for me and I paid $30 for it. When I got home to really try it on, it looked terrible. She didn't alter it how I wanted. So I took it back the next day to have it fixed and they tried to charge me AGAIN!!!! um no. You messed up, you fix it. They were extremely rude when I said I was not paying again to fix their mistake. Then the man there had the nerve to tell me to never come back. I'm no whiz with a needle, so I sometimes need to turn to the pros. And blanket statement: alterations can add up fast. But this place seems reasonable, especially for its location. Turnaround time is 1 week, even with multiple items. I've brought a vintage wool skirt, a lace overlay skirt, and a silk shirt with a split seam - all were returned with quality work. The lady who helps with the alterations is speedy with the pinning and you can get out of that small shop preetty quickly. Do I expect to become friends with the guy who works the register? Probably not as he doesn't seem to be the chummy type. Will I return? Yes, unless I learn how to thread a sewing machine. read more

This is a cute little alteration in the complex near West Paces Ferry. The lady and gentleman who are usually there are very nice. They usually charge me about $6 dollars to alter the hem on jeans which is very cheap. If you want the original hem put on your jeans, I think they'll run you about $12. They are very reasonable with time as well. If you need the item within a couple of days, they'll work out a day with you. Most of the time I just give them as much time so they can have time to work. There is only a couple of spots for parking, but its in a complex so you can park in the lot. read more

Based on the reviews on Yelp, I went to Kam's to get a bridesmaid dress altered. The dress had to be taken in and the hem needed to be shortened. The owners are friendly and to the point. The alterations took 2.5 weeks, because for 1 week they were on vacation. When I gave the dress, I asked how much it would cost, they said $60, which was a little pricey. I have picked up the dress, the alterations were done properly. However, when it was time to pay, The owner was like, how much did I tell you to pay. I replied, how much should I pay. And she replied, $65. Then I said, you had said $60. Overall, the workmanship was fine, no complaints. However, the alterations were not cheap, as other people suggested in their reviews. And the fact that they randomly charge each of their customers is a bit disconcerting. read more

Recently brought a few pairs of suit pants in for hemming. when i picked them up, one leg on each pair was shorter than the other. It was pretty obvious that they hemmed one pair and used them as a guide for the others; however, the woman there said it must be that one of my legs is shorter (really). I kind of laughed, until i realized she was serious. She then said that it could also be that i need to stand up straighter because of my "bow legs". I explained to her that i appreciated her comments, especially since in all these years, my physician has never let me in on the secret that i suffered from these conditions! I'm gathering, from the other comments, that things are good here, until they go bad. At that point no responsibility is taken. If you've had good experiences with Kam's, stick with them. If you are a male, I would suggest looking elsewhere. I had jeans and a button down shirt altered and both were ruined by the work that was done and hemmed so short that I can no longer wear either. Seems like other customers have had a good experience but as a man I like to have the tailor provide some advice on hem length etc. The gentleman who works there provides no help and his measurements were inches off on what should be a simple fix. Without fail, I've had to take almost every alteration back to get it corrected once I picked them up. Stupidly, I continued to use them becuase they were convenient to my office. Most recently she tapered the legs of a pair of khakis so narrowly at the bottom that I couldn't get them over my calves when what I had asked was for her to taper the hem from front to back so that they didn't have as much break. She then wanted to charge me $30 for ruining the $30 pants and insisted that was what I asked for, but acknowledged I'd never done that with any other pants. It's impossible to overcome a significant language barrier paired with colossally bad customer service. Both a waste of time and money when you deal with these folks. read more

Born and raised on this side of town, I take everything to Lisa and Kam. You would definitely think they would be expensive, but they are definitely affordable and a sure fit everytime. There's something to be said when my friends are jealous that I have no hesitation taking my clothes there to get perfectly fitted. They always make me feel my best. They are quick and can do something for you in the time frame that works for you, they prefer cash, but have a credit card machine, they can alter, and create something to your wish, like a table cloth, curtains, etc. read more

I've only had one suit altered here, but it was my Tux for my wedding. It fit absolutely perfect the first time and they are very reasonable. There really is no reason to go anywhere else. You won't save much if anything at all and getting a "ok" fit just doesn't sit well with me after you pay for custom alterations. read more

Extremley happy with my experience here. I needed a bridesmaid's dress altered, and was able to receive the dress back within a few weeks, although timing was not a concern. I was extremely happy with the price, and the dress fit perfectly. They have altered, hemmed, and repaired school uniforms, prom dresses, expensive suits, and draperies for me over the years and their work is impeccable. They sew on scouting badges! Alterations, or Altercations? My family and I have been faithful customers of Kam's alterations for 20 years, and after our experience today, I will never go back. I am getting married soon, and my sisters (maids of honor) and my mom took their dresses to Kam's Alterations to have their dresses fitted. It was very clear while they were trying on the dresses that the people at Kam's were less than willing to do complex alterations that these dresses required. At first they just wanted to hem the dresses even though it was clear that the dresses needed more adjustments than just that. Had I not pointed out the other areas where adjustments were needed, I don't think they would have bothered to do them. We left the shop not feeling very confident that they could handle what needed to be done. We decided to go back and get our dresses the next day (before they had started working on them) and seek out a place that could handle more complex alterations. When my mom went in to get the dresses, the man at the front desk literally yelled at her, expressing that we had taken up so much of their time (how much time could we have taken? We came back for the dresses before they had even started working on them). He yelled at her for a good five minutes right in front of everyone. She tried to calmly tell him that she was happy to pay for whatever time they had spent, and he threw the offer back in her face. He used phrases like "I know people like you" and "you are not welcome here." My mom very calmly said that she had been a good customer of their shop for 20 years, and he said that 20 years did not matter to him. He yelled at her to get out and never come back. I am appalled at the way my mother was treated. I have never seen such a complete disregard for customer service in my life. I can understand their frustration, but yelling repeatedly at a faithful customer is unacceptable. They may be inexpensive, but clearly one get's what they pay for here. This is a facility that values quantity over quality, and shows no concern for the relationships they have with their customers. We will never go back. read more

I rarely go online to post a negative review of a company, but I was kind of astounded with this place's customer service and not in a good way. I went in to have a pair of pants patched. He looked at them and said "you really need these?" They're one of my favorite pairs that I've had for a while, and I just wanted a hole fixed. Albeit a big hole, but I knew they would come out looking like they were patched and that's fine. I said yes. And he said I have to pay $12 up front. I asked why. He said because you might not come back and that it's happened too many times. Friendly service, quality alterations, and fantastic prices! I just picked up four pairs of pants that needed shortening ($8 each), two skirts that needed new hooks ($2 each), and a dress that had been unworn for years because of a small hole ($5). $41 to repair seven items? Unbelievable. It's kind of a haul from my house in Grant Park and the strip mall location is always really busy, but the quality and price make it easily worth a little extra effort. I needed to have my daughter's school uniform pleated kilt hemmed. I dreaded the idea of doing it myself with my exceptionally limited sewing skills, but I was worried about how much it would cost. Based on numerous recommendations from friends, I went to Kam's. They completed the alteration in a few days for only $14. It looks better than the original hem on the kilt. I tried Kam's with a bridesmaid dress that was too big all over, straps, body, length. I took it in, had it fitted and they had it ready for me in 2 weeks. They probably could have done it more quickly, but I took it in with plenty of time so that there was not a rush. The dress looks great and it only cost $48.
