Like all facilities while still under pandemic restrictions, be sure to follow the protocols in effect at the time of your visit. The views from the upper part of the park on 20th Ave. are quite nice, especially during sunrise. During normal in-school class days, most of the street between the school and the park is closed. On the mauka side there is access to a couple of parking stalls for your use when using the park. An interesting side note is that the park's rec. bldg. next to the children's playground equipment area used to be an open pavillion that was one of the coolest places to sit. The tradewinds would roll through with a sweet breeze as you sat and kicked back to daydream during the lazy days of summer.

Petrie Community Park is not overly big, but it has a little of something for everyone (for all ages). Petrie park has several basketball courts, tennis courts, a volleyball court, a jungle gym for the kiddies, and a large field for kids to play soccer, baseball, as well as football. There are also several benches & picnic tables on the park premises, should you wanna eat there, or watch the kiddies. In my recent visits here, I could clearly see that the field could use some water, as the grass was pretty brown & dried up...........but of course summer is just around the corner, so I guess maybe the city is trying to save water? There is also a office pavilion, as well as a restroom at Petrie park, but be careful if you come here at night, as I saw some sketchy element hanging & loitering around the restroom area. There is no private parking lot for this park, but not to fret as there is a lot of street parking within the Kaimuki neighborhood. Through the years, not much has changed at this park since I used to hang here as a kid, but glad to see folks still bring kids here to enjoy this nice community park.

If you're looking for an area that offers recreational activities (during school hours), social interaction with friendly neighbors, usable open space that's kid-friendly (e.g. the playground, basketball court, and baseball/softball field), Wilson Park checks off all of these things. The park is maintained well with the occasional graffiti vandalism from high schoolers and sunflower seeds from baseball viewers, which is all inevitable, but it goes to show how well the park patrons and C&C workers care for their community park! I've been told that the public bathrooms are closed by 10 P.M. so good luck finding one during that time...maybe the mall if it's still open? Every time I pass by the park, whether it be driving up the hill back home or walking my dogs, it's ALWAYS crowded, from the pavilion to the baseball field! The baseball field is usually occupied by children baseball leagues, the basketball court is filled with people (good luck finding an open court), the pavilion is taken up by people practicing Capoeira, and there will be kids running around on the playground at night. During baseball season, good luck finding street parking in the day and night. Wilson Park is also one of the C&C-owned parks that participate in the Summer Fun program. It runs from the beginning of June and ends at the end of July. It's VERY popular amongst the families in this neighborhood so if you want to sign-up for this, you're going to have to wake up early and line up to get a spot for your child. They have a limited amount of spots open so first come, first serve.

***Tennis Courts***…read more A friend who lives here recommended these tennis courts. You drive up the elementary school drive way and veer right. Note: Don't go during school pick up times around 2 pm, if I recall correctly. Out of Ala Moana Park and Diamond Head TC, these courts are less cracked and hurt my body less afterwards. The downside was there was no shade so it was really hot in the early afternoon. It didn't start to cool down until 4 pm, right around the time some people were coming in for lessons in the next court (there's 2). Overall, nicer courts to hit balls. Wish it was cooler, near the ocean. Maybe will trying coming in the evening. The woman's toilet (only one stall) was surprisingly clean

But recently my sister had basketball practice there. Aina Haina Community Park is a huge park. The parking is a bit away from the basketball courts. You probably wouldn't even know that there were basketball courts out there from standing in the parking lot. The first thing you see is the huge baseball field. They also have playground equipment for kids and tennis courts. It's a beautiful park and it is very well maintained. All of the courts are clean, no ripped basket nets, and no holes in the court. My daughter had fun playing on the playground equipment. It was just like other parks but it had a different bridge. They had a bridge that was a little more complicated and had feet placement steps instead of just a straight bridge. It took a little more skill to balance. Overall I'd come back here. I liked the playground and the basketball courts. Seems like a very safe park to play at.

With just a few weeks to enjoy the tree a top the hill lit so beautifully and bright it's a place that I rarely get to enjoy and take in at my leisure since parking in the area is quite the real challenge. This year I did have some bucket list places that I really wanted to visit and why not start at a place that's been in my neighborhood since not knowing is quite shameful and decided Christmas Eve was the night that I needed to see it so I arrived early before the sunset and luckily did find parking right across the street and am happy to finally take it all in. It does sit right a top the fire station and there is a path that will take you straight up there which is all dirt so a rainy day will make climbing a challenge so it is something to keep in mind as there isn't any seating or covering as well but was surprised to find many to take the trip up to enjoy the sunset and tree along with the stunning view of Kaimuki and beyond. A free place to take it all in and enjoy and wished I did come up earlier to enjoy the sunset as this place is totally recommended and will be back. Thank you!

It is a very popular spot for pickle ball because there are so many men and women there waiting to play! Also, it is nice to see the toddlers come with their parents and grandparents to play on the jungle gym! There are many classes and my favorite is Free Mahjong Play every Wednesday mornings 9-12. There are square tables and Mahjong sets so you can just come and play and make new friends! There is a new social club that has lei making, guest speakers and even excursions! Heard they got to ride the new Skyline! Tricia, the director, is so nice, friendly and helpful! She really has this park classes growing and welcomes all! She always sends us emails to keep us informed about what's happening! Plus, whenever I have questions, she immediately responds to my inquiries! Bravo and kudos to Tricia!

Maybe while I'm here, draft a Yelp review or two. I spent about 2 hours here in January 2024 and another 2 in February 2024. Best to file a review, eh? During the times I was here, it was a relaxing time for me to just enjoy being alive and having that downtime between work and life. With that said, I usually see people playing organized sports, since there is a playable basketball court, but you'd have to supply your own basketball. It's nice to people watch here as I usually do while trying to destress from the crazy stuff we call life. I enjoy people watching as well as drafting Yelp reviews while sitting here in Wailupe community park. The cool thing about the area is that it is very quiet and you get the serenades of serenity and quiet amongst the residential neighborhood it serves. The Wailupe Community park is well maintained by the good folks of the Department of Parks & Recreation - City and County of Honolulu. Wailupe Community Park is located in the upper Aina Haina valley in East Oahu. Like all community parks across the island, they are admission free. Totally free! It's awesome and amazing! Just come as you are and you'll be okay. As far as parking goes, your best bet is to grab any residential parking that is nearby or just nearby. When I was there, there was a generous helping of parking spots available on neighborhood streets nearby. I'm not sure if there is actually a private parking option for the park itself, but, I'll probably check on my next outing there. If you're like me, the only bus that comes up here, is the route 18/24. The bus stops just about half a block away from the park and it is definitely walkable. It is a nice direct line between Ala Moana shopping center and Wailupe community Park. You can also catch route 1 or route 23 but it's a walk from Aina Haina shopping center / Kalanianaole Hwy. Everytime my son has tried to play there, there has been urine on a slide, or someone washing themselves in the water fountain. Last time my son was there, there were two people at the edge of the park just snorting stuff off the center console of a car nearest the jungle gym. Neither of them were dangerous people, but it gives you and idea of what to expect. At the end of the day, until the trains and the camps are up and running, this park has just become another homeless shelter. Too bad. The play set is nice and the location is convenient.

My boyfriend and I live close by and will sometimes take my pup, Olaf, on a walk here. The park is surrounded by a fence, has a community center, playground/jungle gym, basketball court, and large open field (perfect for my tiny pup to run around). The area and neighborhood is definitely a little rugged--I highly suggest coming to visit during the day but don't suggest staying too late after the sun goes down. Aside from the occasional homeless that frequent the area, for the most part I would say that this park is safe. During the day, I've recently noticed that the community center has turned into a road test-testing center. Parking is mostly street parking with the exception of 1 handicap stall, and 2 regular parking stall off of Alder Street. The people in this neighborhood definitely care about making their community better and you can definitely tell! There is a lot of pride and love coming from the neighborhood surrounding the park. The house on the corner of Alder and Rycroft Street is also home to a free little library!

Cross streets of Keeaumoku Boulevard and Kinau Street are very busy. Be very careful of using crossings, including marked crosswalks as there are many accidents at this intersection. Avoid early mornings and late night walking around here. Not the safest area. Lighting is not great and there are homeless encampments around many sections of this park. Police are often seen in this area.
