We hired Prime Design for a home remodel project, but unfortunately the experience has been very disappointing. There have been multiple unresolved issues with the quality of work and follow-through. One example is an LED light that continues to flicker. It has been more than six months, with many calls and text messages, but the issue still has not been fixed. Another example is damage to our garage cabinet, where a hole was created during the work. We are still waiting for this to be repaired as well. Bryan, our foreman, was a strong asset to the project. Even though he was managing multiple jobs at the same time, his responsiveness and willingness to go out of his way to address our concerns made a big difference. Because we were home throughout the process, we were able to catch issues early and communicate them directly to Bryan, who consistently followed through to resolve them. What Went Well: * The tile and flooring subcontractors were excellent - their craftsmanship and attention to detail truly stood out. * Bryan, our foreman, was responsive to texts and phone calls, listened to our concerns, and made sure they were addressed. He even designed a bi-fold closet door for us, and helped pick up all the material to build it. * Bryan also took the initiative to handle several unfinished items himself, which we really appreciated. * The post-build cleaners were top-notch and left the space in pristine condition. * Throughout the project, everyone we interacted with was professional, courteous, and conscientious. There were no conflicts or issues, which made the experience comfortable for us. Areas for Improvement: * The timeline was a pain point. While we were originally told the project would take 6-8 weeks, it ended up stretching to 12 weeks. * The design process fell short of expectations. Because Prime's in-house designers weren't available, our design work was outsourced. We only received a full design package for the master bathroom. As a result, we ended up creating our own renderings for the other rooms to help communicate our vision to the team. That said, we were very happy with the design and material selections for the master bathroom they did complete. We just wish the same level of attention and design support had been provided for the rest of the project. * At times, resource availability was limited, likely due to workers being assigned to multiple jobs. This led to workflow inefficiencies and delays. Toward the end of our renovation, our foreman Bryan had to personally step in to complete several tasks, such as installing faucets, shelving, and baseboards. He managed to get it done in between site visits and meetings, which we appreciated, but it also highlighted a lack of available crew to close out the project. I hired Prime to renovate my kitchen - countertops, backsplash, cabinets, electrical, freezer, etc. They also helped install a new bidet toilet for me. Overall the experience was very good; Elijah and Bryan were super friendly and responsive. Eli was very patient and accommodating as we discussed several different potential change orders, from new windows to painting, to other misc. things that popped up. Bryan Luna was especially a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and proactivity to solve any little thing I mentioned was definitely the highlight of working with Prime. Their contracted electrician, Hector, was great as well. I also think they did a great job building out a cabinet to fit our freezer next to the matching fridge. Their master carpenter managed to salvage our existing wood to make it match perfectly. Definitely better than what I'd expect from even a carpentry specialty contractor. I will mention that it wasn't without some snags. Prime deals in volume so they're very busy. I think because I had delays in sourcing a freezer I ended up not getting a dedicated project manager for some time. We had timeline issues made worse with holidays. This caused cascading delays which inevitably pushed back my move in date a few weeks. When I finally did get a new project manager, they ghosted me (later on I found out they had a family emergency). Eli had to step in again to help. Another thing is that their pricing is quite opaque. The estimate will break down prices by milestones, but they repeated told me that it's not a valuation of the milestone itself. This made it nigh impossible to understand if I wanted to contract out specific pieces of the project (e.g. flooring). Design was OK. I felt that the designer was very busy. Sometimes very responsive (5min replies), sometimes not responsive at all (no reply). I wish I had a better, more thorough back-and-forth session about the intricacies of the design. But we made do. Ultimately, the designer made a render and helped point us to some vendors, but from there we had to make our own selection alone (cabinets, handles, pendant lights, faucets, etc.). I did appreciate her presence when we picked out countertops, though. All in all, I think this was a 4.5 star job, but I'm rounding to 5 because of Eli and Bryan :) read more

Change is very difficult. It's also costly. And scary even. This company took the sting out of it. They aren't the cheapest out there, but once you see the work they do, it's almost a bargain. I did my research and wanted to find something in the middle- quality without excess. I found these guys. My project manager, Elijah was a total professional and also happens to be a real nice human being. His crew is even better (sorry, Eli). They listened and wanted my input. I grew to trust them quickly and started asking for their opinions about various things along the way to help me decide what to do. As stressful at it is to have people in your house everyday making lots of noise for weeks, I'm actually going to miss these guys. I will definitely hire them in future. I already have new projects in mind, and once the money is there, I'll pick up the phone and get to see my new friends again. read more

We worked with Ilay (project manager) and Juan (foreman) on our recent home remodel (both bathrooms, kitchen, and fireplace). Overall, we are quite satisfied. Both Ilay and Juan were responsive to our questions and were able to address and fix issues that cropped up along the way. And special thanks to Juan for taking the time out of his busy day to make sure he answered all our questions about what should happen next, etc., whenever we saw him! And Ilay for responding to messages even during what is typically offline hours. The tradesmen/contractors they sent were overall quite good; we appreciated the finishing touches and how they checked in with us to make sure everything was okay with us before they left. I also appreciated that Prime was able to help with all the permitting that went into our project, which meant the whole process was a bit less stressful overall. And since Prime also provided a designer, we had help with selecting materials and figuring out what to order. The finished design is pretty much exactly what we expected, which is the best you can really ask for when you're going into construction. We met with a few different firms to help us with a remodel of our new home. The home showed about 40 years of wear with only basic upgrades to address the wear. We found Prime Design to offer us the best value for our money. What started with a fairly extensive remodel (kitchen, floors, interior paint, walk-in closet installation, stair upgrade, extensive electrical upgrade, two sliding door installations, and garage clean-up, and more!) soon became much more as we discovered issues with the house than we first found (new roof and decking, garage framing, two bathroom remodels). Ilay and his team (shout out to Juan) worked with us to reach satisfactory conclusions at reasonable prices throughout the process. He also worked quickly! Despite the addition of quite a bit of work, we completed the project in 12 weeks (originally projected at 6 weeks with the original scope). If you ever need a contractor that is reliable, pays attention to details, helps you decide the best way to repair/build yard projects cost effectively, please contact Eli Benyakov! We needed our backyard fence that is approximately 120 feet demolished and rebuilt. It was on a sloping hill and needed the posts to be buried and cemented at least 2ft deep for stability before the redwood fence boards can be nailed. They used 3 rows of nails on the cross boards for strength. The fence will last at least 30 years! They used pressure treated redwood in constructing the 20 ' and 29' retaining walls. The last project was constructing a concrete stairway. They used rebar and wood for the form. This was back breaking work! The results speak for itself; excellent!! I truly appreciate the professionalism and dedication of Eli to get the project completed within a couple of weeks and his stellar work crew. He was hands on from start to finish stopping by every couple of days to monitor the progress. Even with the Change of Order work (building the additional 29' retaining wall) he kept the cost within our budget. This was an absolute plus being we are seniors and no longer in the workforce. We considered a couple bids and went with Prime due to all the positive reviews here on Yelp and also recommendations from family. We are not disappointed and cost was not out of line. Our project was not complicated as we were limited in space and didn't want to take down a wall. So we didn't really have any good opportunities to move things. So we basically took to original kitchen layout and kept it but updated everything. We added a counter over looking our family room which turned out to be a great add and also a nice bench with storage underneath. We also had Prime change our flooring through out the lower level and painted most of the rooms. Daniel Z. and Ilay (Project Management) were great to work with. They went out of their way to address all of our concerns and slight tweaks along the way. All of the craftsman they sent out were courteous and professional. It was starting to turn a little cool outside and the holidays were coming up, so what's the first thing that came to mind? Let's REMODEL the KITCHEN! We chose Prime Design and Build for our kitchen remodel. Noah and his team were great; they did everything we asked for. Even when we added a couple of items to the project, they were patient and took them in stride. The communication between the PM Luis, Noah, and I was really good. Any time there was a bit of a hiccup, as there always is in projects of this size, we were all able to talk about it and get it resolved the right way and move on. Noah was always the beacon of confidence and calm. And the team of guys working for him was first-rate. Crown molding is always difficult, and the crown looks great around our cabinets and kitchen. We were able to get new cabinets in our pantry/utility area as well as an arch put in between two adjacent rooms for a reasonable cost including the kitchen. Overall, we're very happy with Prime Design and Build and would recommend them for anybody wanting quality workmanship and a fair price. Just finished kitchen remodel with Prime Design & Build. Shout out to Ilay (Project Manager), Alexandra (Designer), George (Evergreen Custom Cabinets) and Juan (construction Manager) and their crew. From start to finish, every member of the team was professional and worked very well together to get me a beautiful kitchen. The project was a complete demolition of existing kitchen, including two non-load bearing walls, custom cabinets, marble counter top, plumbing, electrical, all new lighting in Kitchen and adjoining dining room and Den, refinishing of existing hardwood floor (necessary repair included) of all 3 rooms, texturing and painting of ceilings and walls of all 3 rooms. Completed 2 days before Christmas (thank you all for making that happen), the kitchen functioned beautifully with everyone gathered around the kitchen as is our family holiday ritual. Demolition to completion took around 7 weeks - a bit longer than my expectation, but very close to their initial estimate. Fortunately, there were no construction surprises. The only hiccup was in the beginning of the project - the permit process was long and arduous - took over 2 months - after first attempt at permit failed (?), Alexandra had to measure my entire house, every room, hallways, upstairs, downstairs to submit the building plan to the city. Not sure why that happened, but we got it done in the end. Prime Design (with Ilay pleading my case) as well as George of Everygreen Custom Cabinets, with help from Alexandra, worked with me to bring the project within the budget which was hugely important and helpful. So glad we went with the custom cabinets - love them - just makes the kitchen. Ilay and Juan managed all moving parts and craftsmen to get the project done. Flexibility is the key. He is one of the most sincere, kindest, helpful and professional workers I have ever encountered and a true joy to work with.
