There are no seats available in this little takeaway that I find myself in as I await my next appointment. It's a small Japanese place that bears on its sign out the front, "Sushi Gelato Espresso." I muse to myself about wondering what a sushi gelato would taste like. That's right, "I'm a wild and craaaazy guy." There's a wide selection of various sushi rolls at $3 a pop, an expected fee for that seaweed wrapped delight. Then there's hot food as well, various types of chicken and beef on rice or noodles and for only $2, small boxes of seaweed salad and edemame. (Soy beans). I wish I could have a sample of all, especially the $10.50 bento box which looks like a tasty treat indeed. I decide to go with Yaki Tori for $6.50 and that does the trick nicely. When I first put a piece of chicken in my mouth, with some really good quality take away chopsticks I might add, it's like a flavour explosion, just really enjoyable chicken. I eat the rest on a park bench in the sun and while I try and empty my head of excess thought and just enjoy the moment, I can't shake the feeling that somewhere in the world some culinary eccentric is in his food lab experimenting with a new sushi flavoured gelato.

Their sashimi boar that worth $60+ somethin according to em.

Worst ever Japanese Restaurant. Artificial flavouring in most food, what i mean is like flavour in a ready made ingredients/sauces, its like shortcut, not authentic at all. It tastes shit. Like the yakitori chicken for example, it tastes like being marinade in a canned sauce. Their sushi has no quality especially the sashimi. Its like the bought all the rejects from Sydney seafood markets. Tried their "Eat all you can" including sashimi worth around $42, ordered some entrees and finished it, them when I'm about to order the Tuna sashimi, they told me its not included in the Eat all u can because its very expensive. Didn't budge, i still ordered it & being told again that its not possible. I didn't want trouble so I ask them WHERE in the menu that its said its not included & ask 'em why they didn't tell me in the first place before I sit down. Their answer is only SORRY. Place looks MESSY & GREASY. Never again. Try at your own risk.

Do not recommend any food venue that prices most meals @ $9.50 then say their EFTPOS limit is $10. Grow up!

Be aware! If you show up as one person you cannot have the all-you-can-eat! What difference does it make to them! Very disappointed!

Motto is the underdog of Japanese restaurants at Sussex Centre. Not only do they live in the shadow of highly rated Ramen Ikkyu, but Motto's location doesn't get the best foot traffic either. The escalators up from ground floor plop you out on the opposite side. This was my third time visiting Motto. Typically, there would be one or two very helpful and courteous girls who greet and coax you into checking out their menu. Thank goodness for picture menus! This time there was a dude by the of Chris working behind the counter. He first thanked me for stopping to look at the menu, then after suggesting that I should try one of the deep-fried options, he thanked me again for ordering. Genuinely courteous? Absolutely! CHICKEN KATSU PLATE ($9) OMG!!!! Best bang for your buck for suuuuure! The chicken is exactly how Chicken Katsu is supposed to be made. Crispy, flaky outside and juicy inside. If you've read my other reviews, you know I can consider myself a bit of a Chicken Katsu snob since that's my go-to-dish at Japanese restaurants. To top things off with this belly-loving dish, you get rice, a side salad w/dressing and miso soup... Oh and almost forgot THE BEST part - FREE ICE CREAM!!!!! Definitely coming back again to try another suggestion..

With relatively few staff that have to multitask between assembling, serving and taking orders, the queue rapidly lengthened behind us as dinner hours began. We ordered the karage bowl, plain wagyu bowl, the teriyaki chicken salad, assortment of side dishes and the matcha milk. The fried chicken is lightly battered and has a strong soy sauce flavor, topped with a layer of mayo. While the slightly undersized pieces have just came out from the fryer, the exterior barely have any crisp and is quite oily, while the interior is a little overcooked. The beef, different from its thick and succulent appearance on the menu, is overcooked and stringy. However, the flavoring on point and the topped spring onions are cut perfectly. Nothing special about the salad, and the same for the self-served takoyaki-on-a-skewer and cold tofu with sliced spring onions. The self-serve matcha milk was a pleasant surprise, with the right level of sugar and bitterness, only lacking some creaminess.
