My husband and myself were in a car wreck and we went to get checked out at Kansas Medical Center. It is the largest full service hospital near us. Dr. Sellberg ran no tests, told us we were textbook car wreck victims. We would heal in time. Asked about our car and said good thing we were in a Toyota. Two days later after not feeling any better, we went to the Wesley ER in Andover and had CT scans, x-rays, an ultrasound on my swollen leg to check for blood clots. Turns out, I have 6 fractured ribs, 2 compressed vertebrae and need a breathing device to avoid pneumonia. Sure glad we decided to get a second opinion. Shame on Dr. Sellberg and Kansas Medical Center. read more

I am writing on behalf of my brother who is 63 and has learning, comprehension, and reasoning disability. He had surgery a few days ago and needed to stay in over night. I stayed with him much of the time but went home to take care of my dad. When i came in the next morning, T was telling me how nice they were and how much they helped him when he was feeling sick. They were so patient as gentle with him. I am so pleased because so many times people dont take their time with him and help him understand, they just do what needs to be done and he feel scared. I have had surgery here, visited the ER and have taken my elderly father here numerous times. It what is probably 5+ visits over the past few months, surgery here 2 years ago - each and every time, the staff has been friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The ER visits have been the most efficient and through that I have ever experienced at an ER. We have never had to wait more than 5 minutes, and all tests, x-rays, Dr. visit have been timely. Discharge has also been a quick and seamless process. I cannot recommend this facility enough, and will go no where else in the Wichita metro area. read more

I had a recent major surgery the first nurse was great the first day that I got out of recovery. And that was on a Thursday afternoon, but the nurses I got from Friday evening until I left Saturday. I did not have good care and they did not clean me up from Thursday until Saturday when the doctor had to get onto them about it! read more

I had surgery here with the robot. They took great care of me. Joked around and made me feel at ease, clear up to the time I went under. The recovery is semi private. Curtains between us, but you get to hear the patient and conversation with doctors. I didn't care. I was ready to go. Today, I'm here to visit. The hallways are like a big maze. We visited the last room at the dead end. Oops! Wrong dead end! Turned around, back to another short Hall. Nurses have little stations in each Hall, big station at mouth of a fourway. About typical of most hospitals. Photos of animals and birds line the halls. There was a bird in this room. The place is new and clean. Nurses are friendly. I'd rate the food if the Snackbar was open. Darn! read more

Heavy chest pains and trouble breathing took us on an unexpected visit to the Kansas Medical Center's, ER and ICU. The care he was given was exceptional from the very start. The ER team was very attentive, communicated well and were very attentive. After a couple of tests and procedures, he was transferred to the ICU. The staff was absolutely exceptional. Jessica, Robyn, and Vanessa took excellent care of him. Five stars to all !! Thankfully, we don't have many occasions to use the hospital, but would recommend Kansas Medical Center, highly! read more

Over the years, we have had the occasion to need the medical care of KMC. 1 of the 5 occasions was stellar, and that involved cardiac care and surgery by Dr. Idbeis. That was a phenomenal and life saving experience. For that, I am profoundly grateful. Sadly, the other 4 occasions involved trips to the ER over a several year span by various family members, and unfortunately, the last visit has me insisting that if I need care, that my family take me elsewhere. So why post? In hopes that someone capable of making the necessary changes and leading the ER will see this and make improvements. I hate that my family lives so closely to an ER and I just don't trust the care they provide based on my families experience. The last visit involved a family member and we were so disappointed in the communication from the doctor and nurses. They sent our loved one home while they were still having symptoms. They were feeling better, but still having symptoms. We got more information while googling the symptoms and treatment ourselves while we waited. At one point, a nurse came in with a paper towel (the folded up kind that you pull out of wall dispenser) and took vitals, wrote them on the paper towel and stuck them in the patient folder. Then turned off the monitor and said our family member was being released. Then left the room. We had to request that the IV be removed. The response? "Yeah, I know." Little things like this make it difficult to have confidence in the quality of care being provided. read more

Worst care ever, mom transported by ambulance, given one bag of solution and discharged without follow up or aftercare instructions. Mom was not stable upon discharge. Staff said there was nothing they could do since she was out of the magical covid window but refused to address the rest of her symptoms. They couldn't get her discharged fast enough, got her home and she deteriorated quickly and we transported to St. Francis- care there wasn't much better- 1 8 hr wait for a bed with a doctor's order. Corporate healthcare is not working. read more

So my vacation turned out to be at a lovely little resort that serves only low fat food and requires a lot of fasting. No massages but endless acupuncture. It's very quiet and allows no visitors. View is nothing to brag about either. Lots of solitude with regular check ups around the clock though. They can keep the acupuncture, I'm a bit tired of it. (I'm about to be on my 3rd IV with many failed attempts in between.). Lots of fun tests with no results, or maybe they are saving that briefing for my departure. One more night, they insisted, so I get to enjoy their Kansas hospitality for another day. Check-out will be quite late tomorrow, or so I'm told. When the acupuncture goes wrong I do get treated to ice packs or heat packs, lovely touch. Staff has been quite nice, very professional. read more

The first part of june 2018 friends rushed me to andover medical center around 11am i thought i was having a heat stroke i was sure i was going to pass on i got there and i was stabilized labs were taken about 45 to 60 minutes After i was admitted they were going to release me i knew this was an awful idea then it happened again dizzy vomiting the left side of my was numb my left eye vision was upside down and i could it felt like i was being kicked in the left side of the skull the nurse said i was fine and it was not a stroke cause if it was a left side of the brain stroke would affect the right side of my body and was useless my good friend helped me breathe and calm down after an hour i was able to breathe again but i could not see strait and was in bad shape over the next 4 hours cat mri ct scans were done they found i had an ischemic cerebral stroke on my left side my family all came to the er and about 4 i looked down and noticed my ekg and blood pressure cuff was disconnected a family member got a nurse they said i was being released i could not believe it my family was outraged i could not even open my eyes with out vomiting me and my family demanded i be transported to the stroke center where you should go if you have a stroke in Wichita kansas or the surrounding area i had to argue and my sister had to fight with the staff to get them to transport me they said there was nothing that could be done and i could have another stroke at home or at the hospital they said nothing could be done !Well i made it to the stroke center i spent 4 full horrible days in the nero ICU FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE and 10 days in rehabilitation hospital learning to walk talk eat clean and take care of my self again i had two months of out patient rehab learning to walk again KANSAS MEDICAL CENTER WAS GOING TO SEND ME HOME FROM THE ER IT SHAMEFUL TO SAY IM MAD IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT IVE COMPLAINED TO THE STATE AND TOO LAWYERS NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE SO BEWARE OF KANSAS MEDICAL CENTER IN ANDOVER KANSAS ITS GOOD PLACE TO GO IF YOU HAVE A DEATHWISH!! read more

My mother is in Kansas Medical Center's care. The nurses are mean to her, they forget about her for hours (the Doctor prescribed antibiotics for her and it took them 12 hours to get them to her), the forget to put her IV back in, and they won't share any information with us. Beware of this establishment. I am going to shout from all of social media how horrid this place is. read more

I wouldn't even give his hospital a 1 rating. My sweet niece was brought there Monday into Tuesday morning around 2am. She had fallen on the porch and could not put ANY pressure on her leg.. we live in Andover so we somehow managed to get her into the truck and head over to kmc. A decision I, or my family will EVER make again. For 1..no temperature tests were taken! Not once! During a pandemic?!?!? 2..we sat in a room for an hour before seeing anyone. 3...for a 12 year old who CANNOT WALK!!!!!! they threw a splint on her and called it good...4..she gets wheeled to the truck and the nurse DIDNT even help get her in the truck!!!!!! What kind of service are you all running up at kmc????? I'm so damn confused! So my sweet niece laid in agony and pain for 12 hours before we took her to Wesley medical... they IMMEDIATELY knew her knee was out of socket! Why in God's name could a doctor take just a couple extra minutes to figure out what was going on... left 2 messages for the medical director Wednesday and today and received nothing back. KMC took exemplary care of a close family member in 2014. Since that time, I have taken family members to the ED on 3 different occasions and have had absolutely horrible experiences. Physicians extremely dismissive of patient concerns and two occasions of misdiagnoses. One of those two occasions resulted in a life threatening crisis. I'm not sure what has happened. We were so very happy with KMC in 2014. There is a particular ED physician that I would caution anyone against accepting "care" from. Horrible! Rude, abhorrent bedside manner, and, again, incorrect diagnoses. No other health professional that I have had interaction with was as awful as this doctor. I am not in the habit of negatively reviewing anyone or anything, but this doctor, from my experiences, deserves to be outed as a poor health care provider. read more

My daughter was brought into the emergency room last Saturday Morning. All I can say is Thank you for saving her life. These nurses and doctors were professionals and the upmost caring people I have ever meant. Dr. Butler, I would highly recommend, she showed a caring bedside manner for my daughter. My husband went to the emergency room in December 2017. Somehow they coded the visit as you workers comp visit and I am still trying to get it straightened out. If I could give 0 stars I would! My mom fell and broke her hip. She had surgery the next day. She had trouble coming out of anesthesia so was in recovery for 3.5 hours. She FINALLY got back to her room. Not one person came in to check on her for 4 hours! No post op care at all! They hooked her up to a vitals machine but no one ever came in to check it. She was mentally not right for three days due to too much morphine so didn't get into rehab for four days. The hospitalist told me that the nurse relied on the IV morphine and kept her on it to long instead of taking her off and giving her pain pills instead. Yes, I will be addressing this due to having to spend two extra days in the hospital. She was never bathed, no bed change, no catheter care. The nurses never accessed her when they would come on shift. They would give her meds and never be seen again. The floor was so sticky and never cleaned. Day shift nurse Shawna on West hall was very rude, never around and acted bothered any time we asked for anything. Nurses never even accessed her one time. I had to help a family member across the hall take her husband to the restroom because she couldn't get anyone to come in. I stayed with my Mom 24/7 because I was scared to leave her knowing no one would care for her. HORRIBLE CARE! read more

My husband was flown here after a heart attack, couldn't have had a better experience, best hospital we have ever been too, the nurses were all awesome to him and I, always made sure we had everything we need and a few going that extra mile, Tom in icu, we will never be able to thank u enough for your compassion and helpfulness, u were awesome! Crystal, Amber, Nikki are a few more nurses that we enjoyed and there is at least 2 more that I can't remember their names...sorry! The drs explained everything to us and knowing we had a 4 hour drive home made sure we were out of there in a timely manner, the food was good and the place was clean! Worst nursing staff ever. I Received better medical care on a battlefield. My wife had abdominal surgery yesterday and her room was not ready for 5 hours after her surgery She was made to stay mostly unattended or cared for for 5 hours in their curtain city Post Operation recovery. Her surgery was over at 2:15 I still hadn't been notified at 4 o'clockI had to call them and ask what the h*** was going on. When they finally got her to her room 5 hours later she hadn't been given anything to drink the entire timeThey had refused to give her her phone. They had taken her off her drip an hour and a 1/2 before they moved her and she had had no pain meds since. When we got to her room that's when the real c*** show began The nerves showing the new aid how to set up the IV pump Did not properly prime the IV line me and my wife both try to tell them my wife being a license flabotomist They ignored us she took on no fluid in 2 hours in which time they still hadn't brought her anything to drink No one ever took her Post OfficeI finally had to go get my wife something to drink Every single time she turned on her call light she'd have to do it for 5 times because they would just turn it off and ignore it As they were too busy gathering out in the hallway and cheater chattering Between times that she could have paid medication they were not altering in any Tylenol ibuprofen nothing when she said that the pain medication was making her sick and wasn't working not one nurse and 24 hours decided to talk to her doctor to change her chart. Anything that you ask for just be prepared to ask for it 4 or 5 times because they're gonna cop an attitude with you say look I just got here with a big a** attitude Then walk out in the hall and continue talking to their buddy for the next hour and forget that they were supposed to be doing a job. My wife is a human being I finally went into this morning and just took her out they had refused to even call her doctor and ask if she could be let go so I just packed her s*** up and left. Never in my life have I seen so called medical professionals treat patients like they are scum for no reason. You people make me want to vomit that s*** is disgusting the way you treat patients there you should be ashamed of yourselves. If you don't like your f****** job I hear Walmart is hiring. I received a letter from them stating they were billing my insurance company. I am not too concerned as I have never been there. I know that the services were provided to a ward that I am guardian of. However, I have been calling for two days to straighten this out. Every single time it goes straight to voice mail. I have left several messages but no one will return my call. There is no other number listed where I could just call the billing department. Frustrating! The doctors may be good, but I would never go there simply because of the billing department. Update: Finally received a phone call and apology. Explained that they are having phone issues and are working on correcting the problem. Also updated information so that statements are sent out correctly. read more

Billing Dept needs to be fired. Period. I keep getting bills in the mail over the past 6 months that are completely WRONG. Either they forget to run through one insurance or none of of them. . Showing I owe a certain amount yet my EOB's prove I don't. I have 2 insurances. I've told them this over the Phone numerous times And in writing. I've even sent in my EOB's WITH the bills. I'm extremely angry. What the hell else am I to do to prove I don't owe you. I was just recently sent to collections on amounts I DONT OWE. Your billing Dept has NO clue of what they are doing. I even have voicemails from your billing Dept stating they are taking care of my insurance claims and apologize for this and that. That didn't stop you from sending me to collections over amounts I've proven I don't owe you. I've even received a bill last week and it wasn't ran through EITHER of my 2 insurances. Jesus Christ. Someone get their billing Dept a brain. Thanks for ruining my credit because your absolute incompetence. read more

I'd BEG my Dr to send me somewhere else. They don't have enough staff to cover the patients. They don't believe in Nurses AIDS so patients have to do it all. They ask if the patient has been up walking. They have been on Morphine for a day and a half. Most hospitals want a nurse or Aid to be with them. Nope, not here. You better make sure you have someone with you if you stay there because they don't even come in and take vitals or anything. Don't even check on you. I had to tell them to empty a drain tube and empty the urinal bag because it was full. She couldn't even empty the whole thing in the beaker. She left what she couldn't fit in the beaker in the bag. Is that even right. I'm in Awe of the inept service that has been provided. Unbelievable!! Beg your Dr. To not send you here. You will regret it!!! read more

It is currently 9:15 am and my grandfather has been here since 3pm yesterday with a broken hip (in two places). We have not seen the doctor and the nursing staff is unable to let us know when that will occur. The first response we received (yesterday) was, "he may be in Sunday morning or it might be Monday". This morning when we asked the RN if she knew when he might see the doctor she said she had no idea and literally walked out as she said it b/c she was frustrated with something concerning her computer system. The family looked at each other in astonishment that she did that. Meanwhile, he will have been lying in his bed for 24 hours (and possibly an additional 24 hrs) with pain meds to hold him over until he is seen - whenever that is. I feel that KMC is very unprofessional when it comes to providing care. Everything seems very "up in the air" and disorganized. This does nothing but provide the patient and family with frustration. This morning when the morning shift nurse came in, she didn't introduce herself to us, acted very rushed, and was upset b/c her computer system wasn't working. My thought is that you are here to provide patient care first and foremost. Say hi to the family, introduce yourself to the patient, and ask him how he is feeling. Do the basic things for the patient which in turn develops a sense of trust between the patient, family, and staff. On a positive note, the night shift nurse, Meredith, was excellent; very thorough and kind. The rooms are large and you are able to control the temperature in each room. Two chairs are stationed in the room with one that folds out into a bed. Pillows and blankets are provided. There is also an area where coffee and water are served. The family can access this area any time. There are no set visiting hours but you will have to use a specific entry way when coming to/leaving the hospital past 9pm. read more

My 90 year old mother had surgery at Andover Hospital in 2018. The worst hospital I've ever had the misfortune to be apart of primarily because I was taking care of my mother at this facility. They were completely understaffed and the nurses who were there, with a couple of exceptions, really seemed like they didn't give a damn. I could tell the morale of the staff was very low!! it was a beautiful hospital but if I hadn't been there helping to take care of my mother I dread to think of the type of care she would have received! The only reason we ended up at Andover Hospital was because the surgeon she used had privileges there. If necessary that my mother needs Hospital services again, I will never, ever take her there again!! I did half the work of the staff in order to get my mother taken care of properly! Do not take a family member there unless it's your only choice. And if it is make sure a family member stays with them 24 hours a day! read more

the hospitalist very poor, one of them does not know how to respect a patients personal space or not demand the patient to do things. it does not matter how rude or mean a patient may be .they need to look at the hole picture. whats going on is he getting better or worse, are they taking care of there needs or the trying to make money. they don't up date the patients medication list so they thing they know it all. may husband had surgery there. they sent him home with 12 pain pills, pneumonia, a beginning wound infection ,home o2, antibiotics, home health that would not start for 3 or 4 day and as weak as a kitten. although they wanted to send him to a skilled facility they did not consider the patients wishes or his health. the nurses licence where on the line for not enough help to care for the patients needs, one call light was on for over an hour and not one of the other nurse would go answer it. the lady that answered the light did not even give you a chance to ask for something and would answer i will put your light on. the other hospitalist was just so full of himself that he stank, he is not the best there is. some of the staff thought it was funny when my husband was confused and wanted to call me when it was 0100 in the morning, and then when he turned bad and had a 103 temp and they packed him in ice and turned off his heater. we were not notified. more than once they took his oxygen off and how long it was before they checked it. it was found to be 82 to 83 % on room air. i felt that he got ignored because the lack of staff poor staffing, rude and money hungry facility that nothing would have gotten done. seriously considering turning hospital in for neglect, abuse , to state and medicare the only reason i would give them one star is because of one nurse who worked her but off understood his health mentally and physically she was a doll. read more

On Oct. 22, 2015 I had a heart cath and then, an unexpected double bypass the next morning. My Doctor, Dr. SenSarma (heart cath) and Dr. Badr Idbeis, (surgeon) were exceptional. They were very clear in explaining my problem and answering questions. I was kept very comfortable after surgery, my family was with me when ever I wanted them. The nurses were great! I realized I was asking them to do things like get me coffee that wasn't really their job but they were very pleasant and cheerful about it. Wasn't long before I was up and walking and got my own coffee. Dr. Idbeis gave me a challenge to walk 2 miles in 30 minutes and I started on that immediately. Only could make it to the corner and back the first week, But today, Dec. 29, 2015, just over 9 weeks I walked 2 miles in 27.18 minutes. I feel better than I have for a couple of years. I thought I was just getting old (78), people would say what did I expect at my age. I expected to walk, hike, do everything I like and now I can! Thanks to them it's possible and I expect to do it another 20 years. You have to put effort into your own health and recovery. read more
