Bennett Highway? who would have known, it's just Route 1 to me. This is right off the highway, going N. Bang a right, About once every 2 years I go to a package store to shop for some occasion I am attending. This was a St. Patrick's Dinner. I easily found the Guiness display, you couldn't miss it, set up near the front of the store. 17.99 for 12 bottles of Guiness seemed like a good deal. The cans with the gas were more and I passed on those. The do give a nicer pour however these were fine for the occasion and the price was right. They had some discount booze in a couple of wagons up front, nothing I was interested in. The store is clean and well lit and organized. I will be back, prices are very good. read more

Kappy's in Malden have always had great staff. However, recent ownership changes seems to have resulted in poor packaging - thin bags that rip and bottles fall out and no dividers between bottles. This is incredily cheap service that reflects a profit motive out of line with good customer service. If you go, demand double-bags and dividers. The prices have increase, so WTF?? read more

Best store in the Chain. Plenty of parking. Easy access from the highway. Clean and well stocked. Conscience employees like Bill and John, the manager. I've never had an issue with customer service. On occasion if I run into an "out of stock" on a popular item, they will make an effort to check the stockroom in case it may have just come in. And the prices are competitive with the state liquor store up north that shall remain nameless. read more

Great selections and excellent staff but having the manager close the front doors at 5:38 (they close at 6) and telling me and everyone they close in 10 mins and rushing us out when there was still 20 minutes to close is very rude and off putting. I understand you and staff would like to leave by 6pm but making a big show and making everyone feel guilty when there is 20 mins to spare is very poor customer service. read more

I shopped here last weekend and really appreciated that the manager asked patron to leave or get a mask when he was just covering his face with a T-shirt. The selection is pretty good for a small store and I was able to find several interesting craft beers to try. read more

I live down the street from this particular location of Kappy's, so naturally, I'm a bit familiar. Quite possibly the largest and most diverse selection of beers I've found in the Boston area. They have anything you can possibly think of, whether it's by the case or individually. They even have Lowenbrau, which immediately scored them points in my book. Fantastic selection of wine, and the staff is more than happy to go out of their way to help you find the best bottle for whatever occaision you might be headed off to. They even have a section of Kosher wines, which is a big plus when you're visiting those that prefer to keep Kosher. Always at least two cashiers working the registers. They tend to not card me, but I think it's because they recognize me from coming in every week to buy more booze for my parties of one. Careful during the weekends and especially Thursday or Friday afternoons. The location on Rt. 1 North makes it especially convenient to people headed home from work, and the parking lot (which is in desperate need of repair) can get quite crowded and busy. read more

John, the manager at the Malden Kappy's, appreciates his beer. Periodically, I'll be looking for something strange. I'll have a special request for a beer that nobody nearby has (mind you I live in Allston - Malden is not nearby!) I'll call up John and he's always happy to special order it for me, and it typically arrives in under a week. It seems he has to order by the case - but when I haven't wanted the full case he's been happy to sell me as much as I want and then sell the rest of the case in the store, even if it's not a normally stocked item. Beer makes me happy. Places that bring me closer to beer make me happy. Kappy's in Malden makes me happy. Highly recommended. read more

Like a supermarket with no food! Do you like booze? I do, but I have come to the conclusion that as I have grown up slightly I have graduated to a slightly higher selection of liqueur. Gone are the days of getting Polands Springs Vodka by the handle for ten bucks, also gone are the days of drinking Milwaukee's Best and thinking its cool. Now my beer of preference is a Tecate and I usually have to come here to get it. It also is a great place to pick up gifts for Friends who may or may not have a problem. They have some awesome brands like Johnny Walker Gold and my personal favorite Patron Silver....I mean you can get this stuff at a lot of places but this place is a sure shot for anything....its like Disneyland for your liver! read more

I've stopped into this Kappy's more than a few times. It's easy since I'm usually traveling right by it anyway. It has everything you could want and need. However, this past Friday, I stopped in and noticed that one of the 6 packs was missing a single bottle. I might be the only person that doesn't know this, but this Kappy's does allow you to mix-a-six, build you own 6 pack. This is my favorite. Try a few new beers, see what you like and you don't have to pour, or pawn of 5 other terrible beers. I decided to ask the manager if I could buy single, and he said I could. Not only that, he went out back and got me a few empty carriers, and the newest copy of Beer Advocate. Selection is good as well. Staff is always helpful. Quick turn around on any special orders. Yes thats right they are always happy to order anything you need. On the weekends there is usually some wine and beer samples. I wonder if they deliver? I never asked, but that would be cool. Bonus star for hooking me up with a hand pump when my C02 was empty. My friends were starting riot around the full keg of Blue Moon and I as the host had no way of dispensing it. read more

Went in today to buy some beers to go with lunch that we were hoping to pick up from next door. When we realized the roast beef place adjacent to them was closed we were devastated. But then Bill from Kappy's came to the rescue! The whole staff was very helpful and engaged in helping us find a new place for lunch- Bill came out from the back and gave us the inside scoop of a local roast beef palace- directions and all. Not all hero's wear capes, some where Kappy's collard shirts. Bill we can't thank you enough. They have 200,000 cases of Bud, Bud Light, Keystone Light, and PBR, all arranged in imposing pyramid form. As for selection, they have a decent one, but for the size of this store, they really should do better. Liquor and wine, again, decently sized collection. I've experience something today at Kappys on rte1. Sagus. I'll never spend another dime or dollar again there. Its very sad when you have employees who are very annoying and unhelpful. This is real good liquor store. They have a huge selection of everything. And their prices are some of the cheapest around. They constantly run sales where you can get some of your favorite wines, beers, or liquors at a good price. I haven't been to a liquor store that has a larger selection than them, with the exception of NH state liquor stores. I'm a bourbon guy & I like to try different brands on a quest to find my absolute favorite. This place's variety will keep my busy for a while. I can't say that all of the other locations are the same. My review is for this specific location because it is the best of the lot. I definitely recommend it. read more

The store is huge and pretty convenient to get to. The shelves are well stocked and the store looks clean. The last time I went here they would not serve me because I forgot the ID at home. Hmm. My second review for a Kappy's. I probably look like an alcoholic. (I'm not. I swear on my mother's, erm, car.) Anyway, I went to Kappy's because I didn't find what I was looking for at Stop & Shop (not that I'm surprised; that would have been convenient!). I enjoyed my ten minutes of browsing. Everything was easy to find, it wasn't crowded, & wow! This location DIDN'T smell like a beeraholic's belly! ASTOUNDING! (That may be due to the fact that I didn't see a recycling center, but shhh, let me have my moment.) The thing that made me happiest (besides so quickly & easily finding what I wanted) was the fact that the cashier was super nice. He had no problems with my license & actually treated me like a human being, not a husky 13 year old trying to pull a "fast one" (see my review for the Medford location). I also noticed they had better prices on some things than Stop & Shop. Guess I'll be making an extra trip whenever I need some alcohol! Squee! :D read more

Kappys - I hope you get rid of the two check out girls on the morning weekends who insult every person in line. I waited with a basket of christmas gifts in December as the line was held up by argument after argument.. then when it was my turn.. they didn't even bother to bag any of my items and it was impossible to lift them all to the van.. so without saying a word I bagged them myself and then these two rejects started venting at me. It seems this place will hire just about anybody off the street if they mouth off at pleasant customers. read more

No out of state licenses, no signs up front (only a small sign at the register) and rude about informing me, intentionally wasting my time. I'm used to this policy at grocery stores but not at liquor stores; this is the first time I've encountered it. This Kappy's is great. It basically gets four stars for it's craft beer selection. It has almost every American craft brand I drink, and the kicker is the import section. Upon return from a recent trip that included a stay in Germany, I was pleasantly surprised to see that many of my favorite beers from Germany were in stock at this Kappy's. I was even more pleasantly surprised to find that they were still delicious, despite the shipping. Throw in some authentic trappist Belgian ales and some delicious stouts from Ireland and the UK, and you have one hell of a beer selection (they also have beers from Thailand, Russia, and other such far-flung places). The liquor selection is pretty sweet as well, you can certainly find any regular hard liquors you like, and the single malt collection is none too shabby. The wine selection is the only thing in the store that's a little lacking, but hey they only have so much space. The prices are very reasonable, as well. read more
