Extremely disappointed! I had high hopes when I decided to have Dr. Karen Allsup as my general doctor. It was recommended by my insurance sales rep because she even goes to her. She raved about her. First time I saw her was in June to confirm I was pregnant and I was. Yay! She told me that I would mostly not see her for a while because of the pregnancy and my interactions would be with my OB. But she did say if it wasn't baby related, I could go see her. So now let's jump to Dec. 4, Tuesday morning, I called my OB and she advised me this is something my general doctor should handle. Then that would be Dr. Karen Allsup. So I called her office to see if I could squeeze in an appointment around 8:20am. I was turned down. The reason why I wanted to see her was I had major abdominal pains and diarrhea every hour to 2 hrs starting since the previous night at 6:30pm. Since I was pregnant, I wanted her advice on what type of medication I could take to ease the pain and the diarrhea. Plus I wanted to know if this was a normal pregnancy thing, food poisoning or if I should go to the ER. Someone did call me back, it was one of her medical staff 2 hrs later. I was advised that it was too early to tell and I should go on a BRAT diet. I followed her advice. The next morning on Wednesday, I had not improved and decided to stop eating and drinking at 3pm the day before because the pain was too painful. So I called Dr. Allsup again to squeeze me in for an appointment. I was turned down b/c she was too full but I asked if the Dr. Allsup could give me any advice. I was scared and desperate. I even told the medical stuff that. Was I harming my baby? The pain didn't stop at all, I couldn't stop the diarrhea and waited all day for her call. I would assume a pregnant woman who hasn't stopped diarrhea for almost 2 days and complains of major abdominal pain would be a red flag for Dr. Karen Allsup, but it wasn't. I gave up at 7pm and went to the ER that night. So when did someone finally call me back from Dr. Karen Allsup's office, late Friday afternoon!!!!!! She was pushing me to make an appointment with the doctor and I was like NO WAY. I told the appointment setter why would I go see the doctor if she didn't care to call me back when I was desperate for an answer. I had to go to the ER! Then again, the staff kept pushing me to set an appointment. I was like leave me alone because why should I go to a doctor that doesn't care about me especially when I am pregnant. read more

Dr Allsup is the nicest doctor. She listens to you on what you have to say about your concerns. I'm glad to have her as patient for a couple years. Bummed that I won't have her as doctor anymore. read more

I went to her when she was at Healthcare Partners and followed her to Kaiser when my employer started offering it. I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful she is. She is the most empathetic and pleasant doctor I have ever met. She always took the time to listen to any problems and especially when I had two deaths back to back she really made me feel comfortable enough to talk about how I was really feeling without feeling like I was overreacting. My employer no longer offers Kaiser so I had to transfer to another doctor, and I don't think I'll ever find a doctor as good as she is! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Allsup for over 5 years, and I have never had a better primary care physician. She is very warm and doesn't rush you out the door. She takes her time to answer any questions you have and is extremely knowledgeable. I feel very comfortable discussing anything with Dr. Allsup. The nursing staff is also very friendly. The only complaint I have is sometimes you have to wait a while to be seen, depending on when your appointment is, but this seems to be generally the case especially when a doctor doesn't just rush through patients. Dr. Allsup is very thorough in her notes when you have labs done and I haven't had an issue being seen the same day when ill. On a side note, I'm not sure why the previous reviewing was complaining about Dr Allsup's office. It seems she should have been seen by her OB's office if she was pregnant. read more

Dr. Allsup is compassionate and has a great bedside manner. Also, the wait time is very short and her staff is friendly. My time is valuable and I don't appreciate waiting for what seems like an eternity in the waiting room and then waiting some more once I am in the exam room. That doesn't happen with Dr. Allsup. The most I have ever had to wait is fifteen minutes because there was an emergency patient. Also, Dr. Allsup really takes the time to listen to you and address all your concerns. At other doctors' offices, I 've waited a long time to see the doctor only to be rushed once the doctor comes into the exam room and he/she did not really go over the whole reason I came to see him/her in the first place. Dr. Allsup always makes sure all my questions are answered before she leaves the exam room. She also lets me know whether I am finished or to wait in the exam room for paperwork or testing. Other doctors have left the room, leaving me unsure whether or not I am supposed to wait or if I am actually done with my appointment. In addition, what I really appreciate about Dr. Allsup is that she is very through and follows through. For example, recently she sent me for a bunch of tests. She sent me the results and called me after I received them to go over them with me. There is nothing worse than being sent for testing and having to wait for your follow up appointment to find out about your tests or going in for you followup and the doctor not taking the time to go over your results. I want to know what's going on with my health so I appreciate it when the doctor takes the time to followup with me. read more

I started with Dr. Karen Allsup when she was with Healthcare Partners, now she is with Kaiser in Long Beach and I could not be happier. She is warm, caring and very attentive. She is not only my doctor but also my husband's and daughter's primary doctor as well. I love this woman. I've been seeing her for 5 or 6 years. She is always pleasant and kind, and she listens to what I have to say. I came in to visit her for a different reason, but I couldn't shake off my boyfriends dad passing away from a heart attack just a few months prior to my visit with her. It was so sudden and it left me in so much disbelief. I had some panics and anxiety in the upcoming months after he passed away. So I was telling her about that and she gave me a hug and we just talked about some life things. I know there are a lot of uncertainties in life and that was feeding my anxieties. I just felt like I was losing my foot on reality. After I talked to her, I felt more grounded and I came to my senses that I was being irrational about my what I was thinking. Anyways, her kindness is hard to find in MDs and I really loved having her as my primary. She always took the time to explain things and gave me advice and suggestions for my health while listening to what my concerns were. That too is hard to find because I feel that most doctors wait for you to finish talking so they can say what they have to say. I moved for school and I had to find a new primary so I was pretty bummed about losing her. If I come back to the area, I will definitely try and get her as my primary again! read more

I am a senior, and a lot of people treat me like I am mentally challenged. Dr. Allsup was the first doctor in a long time to treat me as an equal. Dr. Allsup is very caring, gentle, and explains details. Besides, she has a great sense of humor as well! read more

They just don't come any better. I was recommended to Dr. Allsup by a friend who is a nurse. Dr. Allsup is compassionate, takes her time, listens and genuinely cares about her patients. The staff are warm and capable. If you are worried about delays or waits, I've found the office to be pretty 'on-time' but anyone who expects that there won't be occasional delays has no understanding of how healthcare works nowadays. If you don't want to ever be inconvenienced by a wait - you'll need to dig deeply into your wallet and pay fee-for-service. Even then there are no guarantees and with certainty you won't find a better physician. I strongly recommend her. read more

it's hard to find a good dr. these days. i have a certain criteria that i look for in a doctor. being very particular, i am not impressed with many doctors. this is not, "not" the case with dr. allsup. she gave me time to explain my symptoms and showed concern for my well being. she also is very knowledgeable in her craft. that in it self is hard to find theses days. if you truly need a doctor that is smarter than the average doctor, she is the one. she will help you solve your needs. note: she will help those that will help themselves. if you go to the doctors just to get sympathy, you need to look elsewhere. our doctors of today are faced with financial restrictions that they have no control over. the doctors can not do there job without being overseen by someone that has no front line experience. i want to personally thank dr. allsup for all that she does and for caring about our personal well being. tom sutera, 6-21-15 read more
