I struggle to find words glowing enough to describe Kaspars catering! I didn't hire them, yet my friend brought their incredible food to our party and everyone was over-the-top impressed. This is the best catering I've ever had - I felt like I was eating at an upscale restaurant. All the meat (including salmon, steak, chicken, and lamb) was perfectly cooked, the sides were perfect, and I loved the variety of vegetables and salad. Last week I noticed they had a sign up that advertised "heat-at-home dinners", so I found their site and decided to give it a try. Ordering on the site was slightly clunky, but not too bad and the food was great. I'd highly recommend for a date-night splurge while a fancy dinner out is still not an option. The 3-course meals were generously portioned and the wine flight pairing was perfect. All of the food was expertly prepared and a cut above your average carryout or homemade meal (unless you spend 4 hours on it). The appetizers were delicious and well-packed, the salads were fresh, and the mains were generous and perfectly seasoned. All dinner guests were very pleased. Also, their food came with detailed heating and plating instructions that made it very easy to prepare. We also ordered some cocktails, which came as separate components so things would stay fresh until we were ready to put them together, so the blackberry french 75's came out like this (see pic) and not just like fruit punch. We had Kaspars cater an event for my sons graduation at our home. We had about 40 people and worked with Briana and Shannon. They were both very easy to work with and Shannon even came to our home to do a pre-visit, giving me great comfort for our event. Day of, we had staff that worked very hard to ensure our guests were taken cared of. They served appetizers, cleared plates, and cleaned up everything. The chefs were amazing and the food delicious, again they left my kitchen spotless. We served their holiday buffet appetizers with salmon, prime rib, and paella stations. It was a lot of food with leftovers. They even cut and serve two cakes that I bought on my own. We provided our own drinks and they even surprised me with beautiful ice buckets and serving ware. I also rented all of our dinnerware through them, which made things very convenient. They brought cocktail tables with linen and set everything up for me. Previously I was going to order this from Pedersens but it was less expensive to have them bring it. We've hired caterers before but Kaspars exceeds the rest. We will look forward to using them for our future events. Cost wise, they were very reasonable for service you receive. Most of all the food is delicious and they truly take the work of preparing and cleaning for you, leaving you to enjoy the party. From the get go, I was very impressed by Kaspar. I had my caterer cancel last minute and called the Kaspar team over a weekend. While the sales staff was not working, the lady who answered the phone was super understanding of the situation and followed up with me with the assurance that they would be able to accommodate my request and the sales team reached out to me right away on Monday to get the planning started. Everyone was raving about both the taste and presentation of the food items. The food tasted healthy and fresh and made the baby shower even more enjoyable. Guests made it a point to specifically ask for the name of our caterer. Briana worked with us to craft a menu that was specific to our needs and it did not disappoint. While we did a pick up for the event, I was impressed by the packaging and serving set up. The only thing I'd ask is to add specific instructions for pick up over the weekend in an email because that wasn't very obvious when we got there. We hired Kaspars to cater our small wedding (~30 people) and they were wonderful! All the staff at the event were so friendly and helpful, it made a hectic day perfectly pleasant. We had a range of dietary requirements, and even added a guest with a severe peanut allergy fairly late in the game (after doing a tasting and deciding the menu), and they handled it like the pros they are. Our guest was happy to be able to eat, and especially excited about the delicious chicken satay appetizer, which you'd never guess was peanut-free. The buffet was great--my family is very food-focused, and even they were impressed. Admittedly I think the food probably merits 4 out of 5 stars relative to Seattle restaurant food generally, but that's a high bar. It's probably about as good as you can get with buffet fare, and it was perfect for the occasion. I loved the fudgy vegan brownie, and several guests seemed pleasantly surprised by it as well. We didn't really shop around for a caterer because Kaspars was recommended by our venue (the Center for Wooden Boats), and now I can see why. Kaspar's Easter meal was another one of his extraordinary, affordable take-away offerings. It consisted of an enormous amount of food that included 9 different food items: 2 breakfast snacks, appetizer, beautiful Challah with honey butter, Country Ham with apple cider glaze, scalloped potatoes with 2 salads, and dessert. The meal was superbly packaged requiring little preparation with clear instructions. Only 3 of the food items needed a quick reheat, everything was so flavorful and minimal clean-up afterwards. Leftovers stashed in the frig. With Kaspar's take-out meals, the team always considers everything from the customer's pick-up/delivery to that last taste of dessert. Speaking of dessert, the Almond Carrot Cake with Coconut Cream Cheese Frosting deserved an award! Kaspar's team really outshined with this meal. It easily deserved 5+ stars! read more

Kaspars was the heart of my Thanksgiving! A special thanks to the kind and professional Sara who worked with me back and forth over the phone to make arrangements for my special order without onions! I swooped in on the morning of Thanksgiving, was greeted politely, directed to my neatly arranged, boxed-for travel order and instructions, and I was back on my way in less than 2 minutes! Have you been to an event where the food is abysmal? We all have! But I attended an event catered by Kaspars a while back and I still can't get the experience out of my mind. The food was totally stellar and the portions passed were perfect bite-sized samples of food that were easy to manage while holding wine in the other hand. We all know how frustrating it is to attend an event and want to eat and drink while walking around but managing the food in both hands can be tough. But this event was like magic! The team was quick to offer napkins, take used skewers, grab empty plates, etc. In fact everything was passed around the room (or picked back up) by the various Kaspar's employees. Each of whom was extremely friendly and kind. So great food, great quality, and exceptional service. I was very happy with the event and if I hear Kaspars is catering another event, I'll be sure to squeal like a little girl at the thought of that type of experience again. The bathrooms are really dim- probably so you don't see how distended your belly has become after a meal here! Kaspar's is a great alternative to Salty's on Alki- less pressure, more elbow-room, less Vegas-y. I'd argue that Kaspar's is superior in some respects. There's plenty to choose from and you'll still leave stuffed, but there is visibly less to choose from compared to Salty's. You'll still get your Caesar salad, fruit & cheese & crackers, smoked salmon, seared tuna, shrimp cocktail, a number of entrees, carved meats, soup, and a sampling of desserts. The scale just isn't as obscene as Salty's. Highlights of their Thanksgiving buffet include: lentils with chicken cilantro meatballs, black bean and cojito cheese quesadilla, honey rum smoked salmon, caramelized onion with goat cheese tart, and (of course) carved rosemary turkey. Kaspar's applejack. Flourless chocolate cake. Lowlights were a dungeness crab bisque (looked more like gravy, tasted like ?? mystery soup) and a too boozy tiramisu. Kaspar's isn't a restaurant- they do special events, catering, wine dinners, and cooking classes. update- 11/24/07 Kaspar's isn't doing a Christmas buffet, but rather a prix-fixe Xmas eve dinner. Kaspars is truly the best. I've used Kaspars for a 300+ offsite event. Kaspars crew are incredibly knowledgable, professional, friendly and helpful. From helping with putting together a menu for the event, to the actual execution of the evening - everything was flawless. Kaspar and his staff delivered superior service and our guests left saying how incredibly tasty the food was. Kaspars also opens up their space for special occasions like Mother's Day, Easter, etc., and if you are looking to indulge in some delicious food, I highly recommend coming here. There are endless choices of food - carving station, dessert station, hot foods, cold foods, salads and much more. You will usually see Chef Kaspar helping replenishing food and making sure all looks great. His wife Nancy is also on site to welcome guests and to thank guests for coming. Everything we had was incredible - I recommend the pulled pork sliders with grilled pineapple and homemade pickles, shrimp and avocado tostadas, miso lettuce cups, and the feta dip. Kaspar's does mostly catering, but they also throw regular special events, such as Easter brunch. The buffet menu looked great from their website, and they delivered on everything promised. Pretty much everything was good. The meats were fresh, the omelettes had a nice variety of offerings, the desert section was fun and good, and all of the food was well stocked and fresh looking. Except for the eggs benedict -- it seems those would be better suited to be cooked up fresh at the omelette bar, instead of sitting in a pan like that. But it still tasted ok. A bottle of wine was only $40. Per person price for all you can eat was $40, a reasonable price for the quality and variety you get. My sister and nephew had to back out last minute, and I thought I was on the hook for them as well, because they required my credit card to hold the reservation. Kinda strange, but Kaspar's didn't hold me to the reservation of 4. So despite my last ditch efforts to get some nearby friends to come out for a treat with one hour's notice, it was just my mom and moi'. My mom is a bit picky, and she loved it -- ate quite a bit, too. It was busy, but not all the tables were full, so we didn't feel cramped. Service was super nice. Overall, it was a very nice time, and I would definitely do it again. PROS: Everything tastes good, nice variety, and deliver on what they promise. Friendly service. I like the boys managing the coat check and holding doors open, too -- kind of sweet and family friendly vibe. CONS: Requiring a credit card to hold a reservations seemed like too much in this security-conscious environment. Should consider moving the eggs benedict to the omelette table. read more

I have now twice participated in instructional lunches with my company, and just like I did a few years back upon leaving the first time, I left this recent even thinking only about when I could get us back there. Starting with the event planning staff - Bridget was extremely helpful, very patient, and responded to my last-minute needs with grace. Then, the service staff - I'm a jerk so I forgot all of their names, but they were fast, attentive, and friendly. Finally, Kaspar and the kitchen staff - Kaspar is a great guy, very funny, very warm, extremely talented and knows how to teach someone who doesn't know what they're doing. He clearly hires people from his own breed, because everyone else in the kitchen is the same way. The food was great (although it certainly would have been better had we not been the people cooking and presenting it). The wine was great. It was a really wonderful day. Again. Reservations for 10 people plus four kids on Easter Sunday? No problem accommodating us at Kaspars! The $45 per person seemed steep at first, but when you count in the fact that no one has to cook or clean up and the food was better than a typical buffet...it was more than worth the price! Also the kids were free! Despite being taken to our table about 30 minutes late for our reservations, we fully enjoyed our Easter brunch. I learned about Kaspar's through Yelp and I am so glad I chose to go there for Thanksgiving. They had a great buffet of high quality food, nice atmosphere, good service, and the buffet was set up more like an event you'd go to rather than a buffet you'd think of at a lower quality place. The desserts were particularly awesome. Actually if I go back, I think I'll eat everything BUT the turkey, stuffing, etc. Those were really good, but there was just a lot more to try. If I had any complaints, it was just that there was too much to try and I didn't get to try it all. But that's OK. Hubby did point out that for the price ($42) we could have had an amazing foodie experience elsewhere. They had fairly traditional Thanksgiving flavors with a gourmet twist, like butternut squash cannelloni. They were reaaalllly good but not transcendent and we have had such wonderful experiences at restaurants lately that I think we are getting a little spoiled. For me, I was looking for good food and atmosphere with still a feeling of traditional Thanksgiving so it was spot on. Service was great, with one little glitch. We arrived early and still were seated right away, there was waiter service for drinks, and he was a good waiter -- there when you need him, not there when you didn't. I've been waiting to write a review for Chef Kaspar and his staff for ages. Okay-- maybe not literally ages-- but ever since our tasting in March, I've been bragging to everyone who will listen about how good the food at our wedding was going to taste. There aren't words to adequately describe the flavors. My now-husband calls it "Texas-inspired PNW fare", which is about as close as I can come. It's delicious, hearty dishes like shepherd's pie with an added oomph of spice. It's chicken and fish that are moist but not drowning in oil. It is seriously the most delicious food ever. I write restaurant reviews on Yelp fairly often, but I hardly ever have this much to say about how authentically, amazingly good a dish is. Literally, every dish at our wedding just knocked it out of the park. Sure, people liked our ceremony, they liked my dress and accessories, and they liked our little touches, but what they raved about was the food. A few people even said it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding- and these were not people in their twenties and thirties, but folks who I'm assuming have been to a fair number of weddings in their life. On top of that, all of Kaspar's staff was easy and fun to work with, especially Erin and our team lead, Joe. I would work with both of them again in a heartbeat. They also made and canned (jarred?) fresh berry jam for us to use as favors, which looked great and tasted even better. Great place to visit for their holiday brunch. We came here for Easter brunch and the food and service were equally great. Our reservation was at the tail end of their brunch time, so we were a bit worried that we wouldn't get the best offerings, which tends to happen at other establishments. We were pleasantly surprised to find that each dish was still fresh and the kitchen continued to replenish items as they were emptied. Had a phenomenal experience working with Kaspars for our catered company event. We had very specific requests moving through their offered menu items and food stations, and they were able to accommodate for every need and request regarding our station edits, setup requests, alcohol preferences, and passed food and bevs. The food was a huge hit among our 200+ guest count, and everything was beautifully plated, tasted delicious, and perfectly matched the atmosphere and aesthetics of our event and venue choice! I would have left it at 4 stars as there were no complaints across the board, but what tipped the quality over the edge to a 5-star rating was their impeccable level of catered service! Up until the last minute, Erin was especially helpful and stayed dedicated to ensuring we got the exact look we envisioned for the floor plan, centerpieces, and overall feel. The evening's event coordinator made sure all catering ran smoothly and that all guests had what they needed (including making sure I as the host was taken care of as well), and each member of the Kaspars catering staff was helpful and smiling as soon as they arrived on site, all the way through tear down. They handled every detail, were an amazingly positive addition to the energy as guests arrived and mingled, and provided the perfect space for everyone to relax and simply enjoy themselves (including me!). Every single person on staff that night was exceptionally friendly, and felt passionate in their readiness to be of service... I came here for their Easter buffet brunch two years ago. Kaspar himself was there cooking in the back and replenishing trays on the line. I thought that was great to see, really drives home his dedication to his culinary talent and the care he takes for his customers. Very friendly and encourages you to eat more!! He even asked me at one point, "You like beets? You should like beets...beets! They put hair on your chest! Good for you!". His personality is very charming. We bought his Cooking Video (on VHS no less) which was $20, but when we bought it, they gave us a $25 gift certificate to eat at their restaurant! Major brownie points. The video was pretty cute too. Very dated though, I think it was made in the early 90s. The cuisine is heavily influenced by Germany, including spatzle, smoked trout, and certain breads. Everything was really good, special attention to detail and very creative. Kaspar put creative twists to otherwise mundane foods, for instance their Earl Gray creme bruele...sooooo good. And I don't like creme bruele! They had delicious lamb which is something you don't always see at buffets, and my favorite food, pretty much ever. The setting is very warm, a like a small elegant bungaloo, tucked close to the key arena in Queen Anne. Cute Victorian style decor, not cheesy. The only downside of it's smallness is the tables were very close together. My mom had a hard time getting in and out. We were greeted at the front door by two small children, which made us feel like old friends coming to visit. Kaspars also offers mothers day buffet brunch, as well as seasonal buffet events, and wine dinners. A little spendy, on the same cost of any other buffet, i would like to return! read more

I'm not sure is the lady is with the management, but I witnessed some very unprofessional public behavior today. It appeared that another business' vehicle had parked behind Kaspars. When approached by the employee of Kaspars to move his vehicle, he didn't seem upset n by it and even began loading his equipment, next thing she came back out and although I couldn't hear all of the exchange, she was mad that hadn't already left. What has happened to, "Hey, would you mind parking elsewhere?" And, thank you for moving. Looking at Kaspars Catering website, it seems like a business I would recommend. It has taken me awhile to even broach this attempt to write an update because every time I re-read the email from one of the owners, I would also recall the unpleasant phone conversation with her and I would have set it aside...again! Wow. Condescending and initially unapologetic doesn't even begin to describe the start of my phone conversation with her. It was quite apparent to me that she is accustomed to verbally manipulating, coercing, and controlling people. I believe she mistook my phone silence as acquiescing, when in actuality I was biting my tongue since nothing polite would have exited. So, instead I put her on speaker and let my husband hear what was transpiring. Once she (owner) realized he was now part of the conversation, there was a bit of back-pedaling and diminished assertiveness. But overall the general gist was that we must be totally wrong and delusional. Great PR, eh? It was only at the very end of a 10-15 minute "talk" that a comp dinner was begrudgingly offered, but only on the condition that we remove our review within the next couple of days. Yes, a deadline was mandated as well---unbelievable. We understandably have declined the offer. I cannot change my rating as subsequent experiences with this business have only served to lower our opinions. read more

If food and service is important at your wedding or event, Kaspars is the only choice! They catered our wedding in July and our one requirement was that the food has to be amazing. And it exceeded our expectations! However, I had no idea how great the whole experience was going to be! Our event was a little tricky to be fair. It was located on a friends houseboat. This isn't one of those new fancy houseboats, with fancy kitchens...this thing was one of the originals from the early 1900's...and is still a bit like that! The tricky part for Kaspars was that they had to cart everything down approx. 100 yards of dock to the very end. They had to prepare appetizers, cocktails, and 27 plated phenomenal dinner entrees in cramped quarters. Elizabeth was our team leader and she was so professional, as was the entire team. They met everyone's needs before they needed them. Took care of the elderly with such care it was amazing. They even brought my husband and me a plate of appetizers and cocktails when we were taking pictures! Two people saw this happen and commented on how they never got appetizers at their wedding! Kaspar's was amazing! We hosted our son's wedding welcome dinner and post-wedding brunch at the Wooden Boat Center where Kaspar's caters. We picked them because they came with the venue, but now will seek out Kaspar's for other events that we host. They were very easy to work with. The food was incredible, reasonably priced, and the catering crew was perfect. They were timely, efficient, discreet and welcoming.
