Our local guide said that she has a lot of lunch meetings here and she recommended it for us to get a chance to have some traditional Czech dishes. The restaurant is located in an older and rather pretty looking building, outside of the touristy center of Prague. I decided to get an order of the smazeny syr, or Czech fried cheese, which came with fries. To kind of offset all the deep fried goodness of this meal, I also ordered a side salad, which was apparently a side of grilled vegetables (the waiter did ask if that was going to be okay, so I did know what I was getting beforehand). Our food came out quickly enough, and I thought my food was good, albeit heavy. I was certainly glad that I had the side of veggies, as it did help offset the oily heaviness a bit. The bf enjoyed his food, though again, neither of us are particularly used to eating such heavy meals, so we both felt like taking naps shortly after. Our local acquaintance had to chuckle at us Americans for not being as used to this kind of food. I'd say that this would be a nice place for a traditional meal that's not smackdab in the heart of old town. The building that the restaurant is in is quite beautiful, and for what it's worth, the restaurant does have a parking lot as well.

In addition to the food, we had ginger…read moretea to help us warm up from being rained on, which was pieces of ginger steaming in hot water, with honey and other accompaniments as well as chicken soup - all needed before we could start our real meal. We came for the Svíčková (roast sirloin in gravy with bread dumplings and cranberry sauce) which was incredible. The meat was so tender and delicious, and the dumplings and sauce complemented it perfectly. After the Svíčková, we saw a majority of the people around were having Smažený Sýr, and decided we needed to try it if it was that popular - we later learned it's their specialty. It is a fried block of cheese (for the Americans, we likened it to a large mozzarella stick) and was delicious. It also came with a tartar-like sauce which was surprisingly great with it. Everything we had here was delicious, definitely recommend - and would recommend the items we had.

One that seems to have existed her for decades, perhaps centuries. The outdoor garden seating is serene. Birds chirping in the back, little to no background noise all under the shade of tall leafy trees. With the gentle breezes from the wind you pickup notes of earthiness, flowers and scents of the surrounding greenery. That's about where the high stops. I had the special pork dish with sauerkraut and potato dumplings of some sort. My better half had the infamous dumplings. All this paired with a cold pint of local beer and some bubble, fruity alcoholic concoction. If there's one thing Czech's do right is alcohol but I can't use that as merit for this review because it's obviously bought and not made on site. Anyhow, the pork was porky but without any herbs, spices and lacked seasoning overall. What really made it worst was it's dry, stringy and extremely tough texture. Every bite was a struggle. The potato dumplings also had strange textures of a dish washing sponge. Though I've never chewed on one before I would imagine that's how it would be; tough, chewy, dry and slight abrasive. It even resembled one if you look closely! LOL The sauerkraut was the only high in this dish and it too was bland. The dumplings were equally uninspiring. Flavourless, texture-less and overall just plain boring as it can be. If you had closed your eyes while eating, you probably can't tell what it is and what is inside.

I recommend spicy chicken wings which are among appertizers but the portion is big enough for a regular meal. And they are delicious. But of course the other meals are worth tasting as well. They will force you to like czech cuisine. The only thing I would complaint about is the division of smoking and nonsmoking section inside. If you say that half of the room is smoking and half nonsmoking, it´s not really divided space. But as I said, this place is ideal for summer, because you can just relax at the garden. And if you would be cold in the evening so they have a blankets to borrow.

I had a lovely meal of various types of pork and gammon on a skewer served with roasted potatoes. Cider was available which is always a plus for me. The restaurant is located not far from the Mucha Museum and the walls are decorated with examples of his artwork along with numerous clocks (I'm not sure why though). Smoking is allowed in the main dining area. Fortunately ventilation is very good and it wasn't a problem.
