Oh my goodness...I have been waiting for this experience for over a year (how long we waited for our trip to Prague!) tried to get in the first night we arrived but the wait was INSANE! Soooooo... we came back for lunch the next day and walked right in! To say that this place is a 10/10 means there just weren't enough stars! From the employees to the incredible food it was tied for the best meal we had during our two weeks in Austria, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia...(the other best meal was just down the alley at the Italian place) but seriously...everything we had was even better tasting then it looked! We ducked down the alleyway where Mlejnice was located for lunch after a morning of wandering around Prague. My stepson had not yet had a pork knuckle on our trip. Based on the pictures, Mlejnice seemed to be the right place to get one. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is pitch perfect, like you are a guest in a Czech home. We were able to get a table right away, and we started with some glasses of cider and a homemade sausage to share. This was followed by the aforementioned pork knuckles, which were prepared perfectly and more than one person could comfortably eat. The service was consistent with any other European dining experience, and the staff were attentive and kind. Been here several times and on multiple occasions. The ambiance is perfect with the cobblestone streets that surround the area. Has an old world tavern feel. Verify before going if they only accept cash. The food is consistent and the pork knuckles are exceptional. I chanced upon this restaurant while walking in the old town, and decided to try it out. The line and the wait was long. I was seated after a while. At that time, they already ran out of most of the dishes (I wanted to order the duck leg), so I had to be content with the Gulash. I noticed most of the tables ordered the Gulash dish though. The Gulash had really nice representation, and was served in a bread bowl, but overall the taste was kinda bland. I had Goulash before when I was in Austria, so I could compare. FOOD The pork shoulder is massive, absolutely massive. It's also incredibly juice, and they skin tastes wonderful. I cannot stress this enough, the dish was great! The beer goulash on the other hand was interesting and hearty. I wouldn't classify it as wonderful, but decent, with sizable chunks of meat in there. Overall, the food was good, and worth the visit. RESTAURANT As is typical in Prague, water is expensive, and often more expensive that sodas or alcohols. I got a chuckle out of seeing things like whiskey being the same price as water. We got two ciders, which were absolutely delicious. The service was also friendly, which was nice. The decor is interesting, and the seating quite comfortably spaced out. ADVICE One thing - if you plan on using your credit card, I do recommend that you tell them to use the local currency, CZK, when charging the card. I'm not sure why they decided to go with USD without asking me, as it literally offers zero benefits to a foreigner, and all the negatives. For those wondering, if you have a card that doesn't waive foreign transaction fees, using USD doesn't prevent your card from charging the fees. The fee is for foreign transactions, not foreign currency. If you have a card that waives those fees, you're obviously losing out by charging to USD, as the exchange rate is awful. read more

Mlejnice is tucked away on a relatively empty street near Old Town square, but the place already ran out of available tables by 5 pm so be sure to make reservations! It's a very cozy interior with old furniture and tools along the ceiling and walls. Prices are very reasonable and the food were given in generous portions. In order of favorite dishes: Roasted Duck - The best duck we had on our vacation! The skin was roasted golden brown while the meat was slightly pink and very tender. The rice pilaf was unexpectedly delicious. I would've been happy to have ordered another plate. Pork Knuckle - The pork knuckle seemed larger compared to ones from other restaurants, and it came with a side of pickled peppers and onions to help cut the fat. The pork skin was a bit too chewy on some areas and crunchy elsewhere, but the meat was rich, succulent and easily fell off the bone. Goulash - The goulash was a bit saltier compared to ones we had in other restaurants, so the bread bowl came to the rescue! Overall, a very thick, hearty stew with a generous amount of beef. Schnitzel - Smaller than most German/Austrian restaurant schnitzels, but still tasty. The breading was thin and not overly greasy, and the addition of lemon juice complemented the meat. Only docking a star because the food took forever to come. We waited over forty minutes for our food to arrive, and the long wait time seemed to be the case for every table. read more

First dinner in Prague and I was so excited after reading all the great reviews. Mlejnice did not even come close to disappointment. Portions are huge, waitstaff was friendly and we were able to eat "traditional" food for 3 people for only about $60. And take home left overs. We were seated rather quickly at 6:45, so either go early or try to make a reservation. It was very hard to find as the Czech maps mean almost nothing especially in old town. I can't help you with that, sorry. Lol good luck! We kind of ran into it by chance. If you're walking from the astronomy tower towards Starbucks, it's the first street in the left. Once seated, we ordered the marinated pork ribs, the pork knee, goulash in a bread bowl, potatoes with broccoli and mushrooms and a side of sauerkraut. Excellent spot for a meal! We were able to get 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, and 4 large beer for an amazing price. Everything we had was delicious but my favorite was the beef goulash. Other places made theirs too salty or the beef was super stringy/tough. Be warned, the salads have no leafy greens, just the crunchy toppings. Still tasty all the same as they are fresh. We went there twice during our weekly long trip in Prague because we were such a fan of this cute little restaurant. First of all, the pork knee was HUGE. I can barely eat 1/3 of it, no joke. I took most of it back to our condo and stripped the meat off the bone and made pork sandwiches for lunch the next day for both me and my husband. That's how big it was. It was also very tasty. Though not as tender as the ones we had before, the crispy skin more than made up for it. The grilled sausage appey was really really good. The cabbage soup was tasty. The beer goulash was awesome. I think the only dish I wasn't quite a fan of is the gnocchi dish (which it wasn't bad, just not great either). The service was really friendly and warm. The place has the rustic charm of dare i say a French countryside bistro. Its located right off the square on a small side street made of cobbles of course. Possible the best meal I had in Prague and definitely the best service we received in Prague as well. They were a bit on serving our food but it was worth the wait! Everything tried were pretty good including the beef roast with spicy red sauce, pork knee, pork ribs and duck breast.
