We ended up eating here twice it was so good. Highly recommend the pork knee, duck and the goulash soup in the bread bowl. As a heads up, this place is cash only!!!
I chanced upon this restaurant while walking in the old town, and decided to try it out. The line and the wait was long. I was seated after a while. At that time, they already ran out of most of the dishes (I wanted to order the duck leg), so I had to be content with the Gulash. I noticed most of the tables ordered the Gulash dish though. The Gulash had really nice representation, and was served in a bread bowl, but overall the taste was kinda bland. I had Goulash before when I was in Austria, so I could compare. Anyways, I didn't try a lot of dishes, so I give 3 stars per the Gulash dish.
Mlejnice is tucked away on a relatively empty street near Old Town square, but the place already ran out of available tables by 5 pm so be sure to make reservations! It's a very cozy interior with old furniture and tools along the ceiling and walls. Prices are very reasonable and the food were given in generous portions. In order of favorite dishes: Roasted Duck - The best duck we had on our vacation! The skin was roasted golden brown while the meat was slightly pink and very tender. The rice pilaf was unexpectedly delicious. I would've been happy to have ordered another plate. Pork Knuckle - The pork knuckle seemed larger compared to ones from other restaurants, and it came with a side of pickled peppers and onions to help cut the fat. The pork skin was a bit too chewy on some areas and crunchy elsewhere, but the meat was rich, succulent and easily fell off the bone. Goulash - The goulash was a bit saltier compared to ones we had in other restaurants, so the bread bowl came to the rescue! Overall, a very thick, hearty stew with a generous amount of beef. Schnitzel - Smaller than most German/Austrian restaurant schnitzels, but still tasty. The breading was thin and not overly greasy, and the addition of lemon juice complemented the meat. Only docking a star because the food took forever to come. We waited over forty minutes for our food to arrive, and the long wait time seemed to be the case for every table.
One of the most famous restaurants in Prague! This place offered super authentic Czech food, especially the pork knee that's the size of my face! Also the beer goulash in a bread bowl is exactly what we needed in a cold day. Definitely a great find in the city. Make sure you make a reservation or try to come at a non prime time. It's a decent size restaurant but lots of people try to eat here.
Other than we had a little difficulty finding it; it's off the Old Town Square; everything was perfect! The interior is small and is loaded with interesting things everywhere you look. The wait staff was helpful and friendly. The roasted pork knee was juicy, flavorful and perfectly cooked. The brie cheese with cranberry was a great side dish; so refreshing! The fresh veggies were crisp and tasty. Very affordable too!
First dinner in Prague and I was so excited after reading all the great reviews. Mlejnice did not even come close to disappointment. Portions are huge, waitstaff was friendly and we were able to eat "traditional" food for 3 people for only about $60. And take home left overs. I was worried about getting a table after reading the reviews and when we left at about 8:30pm, there were about 3 groups waiting for a table. We were seated rather quickly at 6:45, so either go early or try to make a reservation. It was very hard to find as the Czech maps mean almost nothing especially in old town. I can't help you with that, sorry. Lol good luck! We kind of ran into it by chance. If you're walking from the astronomy tower towards Starbucks, it's the first street in the left. Once seated, we ordered the marinated pork ribs, the pork knee, goulash in a bread bowl, potatoes with broccoli and mushrooms and a side of sauerkraut. The beer is rather cheap too and everyone raves about Czech beer. Everything was delicious and the lady waiting on us was very patient and attentive. After spending some time in Budapest, where customer service is pretty nonexistent, our meal at Mlejnice was a nice change.
*****4.5 stars***** Came here for dinner, but the restaurant was full. The server couldn't give an estimate as to when a table would be available, so we decided not to wait. Tried again the next day for lunch and there were tables available. The restaurant is small, so I suggest making reservations for dinner if you can. There's also a second restaurant not too far away if you wanted to make the trek over if this one is full. Decided on the marinated pork ribs and all you can make potatoes with smoked salmon and cream. The pork ribs came with just the right amount of bbq sauce. They were tender and had a lot of flavor to them. Tasted as if they were marinated in beer. The potatoes came with a good amount of smoked salmon and were mixed with the cream sauce. So good! Everything worked well together. Almost like a baked potato, but without the skin. Our waiter had to be the best waiter we had in Prague. He checked back on us frequently and made sure our glasses were never empty. This restaurant is right next to Old Town Square and is definitely worth a visit!
Came during lunch no wait. The servers were attentive we ordered the following meals: Rural potatoes- included herbs, onions, cream and bacon. Very hearty but savory. Good for two people and even then it's a pretty big meal. Pork knee- overwhelming in size but it was so good. The meat was moist, fat content was just enough though it's a dish that's definitely for the faint of heart. Overall a solid choice for lunch and comes highly recommend by yelpers.

The goulash comes in a bread bowl and the combination is amazing. Warm, savory soup with generous chunks of beef in a fresh baked bread bowl that is perfect for dipping. It was our favorite dish at the restaurant. The pork schnitzel was also pretty good, but that is a dish that is hard to mess up. A lot of patrons seemed to enjoy the pork knuckle, but we weren't in the mood for something that fatty. The restaurant's ambiance is cozy and there are a lot of interesting tools and novelties used to decorate the walls and ceiling. I highly recommend checking this restaurant out if you are ever in Prague.
Had the pork knee , and Pilsner draft beer, came with horseradish honey mustard red onions and a cooked red pepper , very crispy skin that was very good , pulled it back to expose the fork tender pork , juicy and delicious tried all the condiments , combining the radish and mustard on my pork was a tongue dance for sure , the hot red pepper bite was really good with it as well . The beer went great with it and by the way this Pilsner Beer is better than German beer if you can believe it , smooth as water and I wasn't a real big beer drinker until now , and they served some sort of rye bread with it . Would definitely recommend this place while in Prague. Two min walk from old town square.
This place gets packed! The food was so so, I ordered a pork skewer that was just okay. I wanted something small and that had veggies, and the pork was incredibly overcooked. The beers are good here though!
It is a really nice restaurant we ate there and it was amazing.It is not overpriced and the food is really good and it totally worth it to go there if you want to try real Czech cuisine! The salads are really good as well! The only thing was that the waiter/waitress where a bit unfriendly and not patiently. Tipp: If a Beer cost over 40CZK the place is probably overpriced.In Prag a beer should never cost more than 40CZK
Mlejnice was pretty awesome! For dining in Old Town, it is reasonably priced and the portion is huge. We went there twice during our weekly long trip in Prague because we were such a fan of this cute little restaurant. The decor was very cute with a bunch of farm tools and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The four of us had a feast! We shared a grilled sausage appey, two bowls of cabbage soup, a pork knee/knuckle dish, a beer goulash dish, gnocchi dish, and a marinated ribs dish. Oh, and beer, lots of beer. First of all, the pork knee was HUGE. I can barely eat 1/3 of it, no joke. I took most of it back to our condo and stripped the meat off the bone and made pork sandwiches for lunch the next day for both me and my husband. That's how big it was. It was also very tasty. Though not as tender as the ones we had before, the crispy skin more than made up for it. The grilled sausage appey was really really good. The cabbage soup was tasty. The beer goulash was awesome. I think the only dish I wasn't quite a fan of is the gnocchi dish (which it wasn't bad, just not great either). The service was really friendly and warm. It also happens to be within 3 min walking from our condo, so when we wanted a quick meal a few nights later, it was a no brainer for us to revisit this restaurant.
Oh my goodness...I have been waiting for this experience for over a year (how long we waited for our trip to Prague!) tried to get in the first night we arrived but the wait was INSANE! Soooooo... we came back for lunch the next day and walked right in! To say that this place is a 10/10 means there just weren't enough stars! From the employees to the incredible food it was tied for the best meal we had during our two weeks in Austria, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia...(the other best meal was just down the alley at the Italian place) but seriously...everything we had was even better tasting then it looked! I will die dreaming about the skin on the pork knuckle and I now have to eat my cheese sticks with tartar sauce! Thank you for a wonderful experience and hopefully we will be back again soon!!! read more

It is a really nice restaurant we ate there and it was amazing.It is not overpriced and the food is really good and it totally worth it to go there if you want to try real Czech cuisine! We came here late night and got Goulash and ribs! We wanted to get pork knee but it was all gone :( The server recommends us to try ribs and it was really good! Portion was huge so we ended up taking leftovers to the hotel. It was our first day in Prague so it was our first time trying Goulash. It reminds me of beef stew in a bread bowl. Goulash was good but little salty! Overall, cute vintage ambiance, nice service and decent food! The reason I took off two stars - I got an impression that the server kept forcing other tables to tip them. I tipped them before they asked, but forcing is no good.. read more

Absolutely loved this place. Thanks again yelpsters for steering us here! Was the first restaurant we ate in while in prague (when czech cuisine and pivo was a novelty). The place has the rustic charm of dare i say a French countryside bistro. Its located right off the square on a small side street made of cobbles of course. Not many tables but all were full; wait was manageable. Service was great and this was out first (of many) goulash in a bowl and pig knuckles. Wow were they good! The pivo was cold and delicious too. We tried to come back later in our stay and the line was too long. A testament to how good they are. Highly recommend! read more
Made a reservation earlier in the day and they wrote our name in the back. Table ready when we came back with friendly service. However, after looking forward to the pork knuckle it just wasn't for me once I tried it. The fried outside was just kind of strange and the meat flavor wasn't very satisfying. I'm sure some people love this item but I just wasn't a fan. read more
Delicious food and a rustic interior. Food: I got the goulash per the waiter's recommendation and really enjoyed it. It was hearty and served in a bread bowl and fresh onions on top. I also ordered a small salad, which was perfect. It had corn, and slices of cucumbers, bell peppers and tomatoes. Service: The service was fast and very friendly. I got there around 5:30 on Easter Monday when lots of tourists were out and got one of the last tables. Tip: THEY ONLY TAKE CASH! I somehow missed tfe little sign on the door, but thankfully had just enough. They'll let you go to an ATM nearby if you aren't so lucky. Final Verdict: Loved the delicious food and authentic setting. I'd go back to try other traditional dishes. This place gets consistently good Yelp reviews and I was glad I followed in my Yelpers footsteps over some of the more easy to find restaurants on the square nearby. read more

Excellent pork knee that was so tender and juicy. The beef goulash is also really delicious with flavorful gravy and tender pieces of beef. Also would highly recommend their homemade lemonade and the fresh mint tea for drinks. It was a lot of food and we only ate 1/2 of it. The entire meal was only $50usd! Service was OK, not super friendly but was relatively quick. I did not get a chance to try the other items on the menu but I really enjoyed the two dishes that we had. Would definitely recommend this to be your first stop in Prague to try out some traditional Czech cuisine. read more
The food here was outstanding. Got the pork knee as an entree, and it was a huge piece, unless you're starving, it's enough for two people. The meat just falls off the bone, outside is extra crispy, with a soft tender meaty inside. Salmon plate was very plentiful, and large enough for two people. Steamed vegetables were cooked just right. Only downsize were the potato crisps. Not the average style potato that would fill you up, but decent for a lighter side. Beverages were enough, and refreshing after a long hot walking day. Stag were minimal, but very attentive and friendly to the size of the restaurant. Would definitely go back!!! read more

Arrived around 7 and waited in line for about 40 minutes. Food was good not great...the ambiance traditional, cozy and cute. We got a sampler of appetizers to start with. I think the potato croquettes and the cabbage pancakes were the best.. my goulash which came in a bread bowl was a bit too salty for me, and my friends dishes were meteoker according to them. Again, not a bad place to get some Czech food but wouldn't wait in line long to do so as according to locals there are plenty of places that have good (if not better) Czech food. read more
My oh my! This was my favorite meal in Prague! Yes tons of tourists come here, but how can you not?! The food is just amazing. The pork knuckle, gnocchi, onion soup, pastas, everything was good! I don't think any dish we had was bad. Even the beer was being downed! The pork knuckle is the star of the show here. Most tender juicy piece of pork I've had. A place I would definitely return to again! I really enjoyed the experience and friendly service. A must visit for anyone coming to check out Prague! You know it's true love when you're only in a city for a few days, but you go to a restaurant TWICE in those 3 days!! My friend and I did some hardcore research and wanted to feast like queens while in Europe. She came across Mlejnice and we were both forever grateful. Even without reservations, we only had to wait either 0 or 10 minutes for a table to open up. The menu has so many options, it's hard to choose from! Both experiences were incredible, and it was so fun getting a taste of what traditional Czech food tasted like! NIGHT 1: Duck leg with sauerkraut and potato dumplings + steamed mixed vegetables + Gambrinus Fruit - The duck was simple but good. It was a good portion that filled me up and left me satisfied. The mixed vegetables were because of my dire need for something besides meat and bread! Gambrinus Fruit is the best thing we came across. It's a very light fruit beer that tastes like raspberries and joy in a fun beer mug! We're on a hunt to find it anywhere in America! NIGHT 2: "Rural" potatoes with herbs, onion, cream, and bacon + baked brie + onion rings + GAMBRINUS FRUIT! - the potatoes were so good. but really, where could you go wrong with potatoes and herbs? Of course it's really heavy, but absolutely worth every bite! The baked brie was great too, and covered with some kind of berry sauce! Simple and delightful. The onion rings had a thick batter, and were just something to remind us of home! Y'all already know about Gambrinus Fruit! You really would be missing out if you're in Prague and don't stop by. Everything on the menu is great and the vibe is so rustic and fun! Plus, the price is hard to beat! $14 for a full meal is my type of place! read more

This restaurant does not live up to the hype at all. We waited a long time and took out cash to eat here. Unfortunately the food was amateur. We had the duck leg and goulash. All Czech classics. Duck leg was overcooked when the goulash was incredibly oversalted. Salad was nothing but a bunch of lettuce leaves. The environment and decor is interesting, but that's about all this restaurant has going for it. read more
