I later confirmed directly with the Virginia Bureau of Insurance that no such policy exists. This arbitrary denial caused unnecessary delay, financial loss, and stress. Prometric needs serious staff training and accountability.

Be sure to read your admission ticket print out carefully so you'll know what, and what not to bring. Here are just a few examples: They have mini lockers, so you can bring your purses, phones, watches, and jackets. You get to keep the key on your desk along with your photo ID. That's all you can bring in to the room where your cubical is assigned to you. If you wear a jacket or sweater, you MUST keep it on. You are NOT allowed to take anything off. Your pockets must be empty. They may ask you to turn them inside out. No tissues. They will give you two if you ask beforehand. They will scan you with a metal detecting wand. They will take your photo. If you need a break (I didn't take one), the timer for your test will not stop. They will supply you with two pencils and scratch paper that needs to be turned in when you are done. If you are taking a math test, then you need to bring your own calculator, but they will check to see that the memory is cleared. All in all, it isn't a bad place to take a mandated test. There is a public parking garage right next to the building which is free on Saturdays. The employees are pleasant enough. The temperature of the testing room (in May) was comfortable. I did have some chick behind me banging on the keyboard pretty loudly, but after a while I think I tuned her out. I did have headphones that I used for part of my exam that I probably could of worn to block out some of the noise she was making. I hope I never have to take this kind of exam again, but if I do, then I'd come here, and not just because Tout de Sweet is a mere two blocks away.

Not to be daunted by the crappy neighborhood, I selected this center and went along my happy way. When I arrived, I was actually invited to take the test ahead of time so I had a little time to survey the surroundings. They do provide lockers that you can put your personal belongings in since you're not supposed to take anything into the test. However, amazingly enough, they let you walk around during breaks so I guess if you really wanted to be a slick betty, you can go for your answer sheet you stashed in your locker under the guise of getting a piece of chewing gum. But you wouldn't do that, right? The testing booths offer a computer with your exam pulled up, a host of cameras to watch your every move (so if you're a picker, make sure it counts and you get a big booger on your finger to flick at the screen), and some ear muffs. I actually had to use them since the girl next to me had some stomach issues (I guess she was nervous?) and actually farted a couple of times. To the Indian girl taking the CPA exam, did you think no one could hear that $hit? I made sure I wiped my ears clean with baby wipes upon leaving the place. They did print my results immediately and provided it to me on the spot with a raised water mark in case folks wanted to challenge my PMPness. Would I do it again? Maybe if I was sadistic enough to take another certification exam. But not bloody likely.

First, if you want a good idea of what your testing experience will be like, check out this video: https://youtu.be/1kK-QuuZeuw While this video wasn't taken at the DC center, it is very much the same layout, decor, computers, etc. The testing center is what you can expect it to be, a quiet and somewhat secluded space with a few workstations where you take your test. Security is tight, you will have to check-in at the lobby security guard, who will then direct you to the elevator that takes you to the Pearson suite. Once in the testing center, you will have your picture taken and your palm vein scanned. The palm vein gets scanned every time you enter and exit the testing room, including breaks. Be advised that if you do need to use the restroom during a break: the restrooms are located outside the testing center in the hallway. You will need to borrow a key from the front-desk in order to use it. While the restrooms are a short distance away, keep in mind that you do lose about a minute of your break just having to walk to and from the restroom. There are two employees at the test center, one at the front desk to check you in and one who is the "proctor": s/he is stationed outside the testing room and can monitor each test taker through a large glass window and video cameras. When I took my test the first time, I would agree with the other reviews that both test employees were very strict and followed the rules to the dotted i. They weren't nice and didn't smile at all. I felt that one step out of line would have had me kicked out of my test. But on my second visit, I encountered two different employees who were the opposite: they were both laid back and very friendly. They were still professional and certainly harped on the rules, but they didn't do it in a condescending sort of way. It was as if they understood that you were stressed out about your test, and they wanted to make you feel comfortable. So overall, I would say that your testing experience might vary based on the testing center employees you get and how their attitudes are. Pearson's primary competitor in computerized-testing is Prometric. I took a different test before at a Prometric center (not in the DC area though) and I can say that Pearson is a lot better. At the Prometric center, I had to wait 45 minutes(!) from my scheduled appointment time before I was even seated at a computer to begin my test. The Prometric center was setup completedly different from Pearson, with the center stuffed with I'd estimate 30-40 test takers sitting in a large cube farm (the Pearson center seats about 12 max, I recall). The Prometric center was definitely not run very well, which certainly added to my testing anxiety. I can therefore give Pearson credit for at least managing their test center much more professionally and sanely. At the end, I would give the Pearson testing center 4 stars. One star off simply for the restroom situation, and maybe for the inconsistency of the staff's attitudes. But, compared to the Prometric testing center I think Pearson is very good at keeping everything organized and professional. Just one less thing to worry about on test day.

They were certainly made for each other. People really should not deal with the public, if they do not like people and cannot be respectful and courteous and encouraging. I had been sitting in my car the entire time and walked in 20 minutes prior to my test, No one told me when to get there and then he told me that he told me that the prior day on the phone. They were not electronic noise-cancelling headphones but did a good job of blocking out noise. There are partitions on each side of the desk, offering good privacy so that one is not bothered by movements to either side of the desk. The size of the monitor is around 22" and has good resolution. The chair is fairly comfortable with basic height and tilt adjustment. The temperature inside was a bit on the cooler side so dressing in layers is recommended. The staff were very professional and courteous, and provided detailed instructions regarding check-in, key to the locker, code for the restroom, and taking breaks. For my specific test, plenty of scratch paper was offered, along with two sharpened No. 2 pencils. The only downside is that the restroom is located down the hall about 50 yards away. I only had a 10-minute break and had to sprint all the way from and to the test center, plus the time needed to get a drink from my water bottle from the locker and the time took to check back in, there was very little time left when I was back at the desk (my test would be forfeited if I was not back within 10 minutes). Highly recommend this test center and would come back again.
