I contacted VA Building & Remodeling recently regarding a renovation and addition to my parents house to make it accessible for my little sister, who became paralyzed several months ago. Shane and Karen came over to take a look at the house in April, and we had a good conversation although there was a pronounced lack of focus. We discussed building an approximately 100 sq ft addition to the house that could be used specially for my sister and her son since she is currently sleeping in the dining room, and remodeling the bathroom next to it to accommodate a wheelchair. There was some damage to the roof as well that had to be repaired. For these issues, they quoted an absurd price of $150,000. Since we desperately need the work done, we discussed the project further. Shane balked when we discussed a payment arrangement since the estimate came in 50% over the budget we had discussed, and he had been aware of. When we came to an impasse for funding the addition, we briefly discussed proceeding with just the roof, bathroom and hallway remodel. When I mentioned our original budget, Shane told me, verbatim, that the $100,000 project "wasn't worth it" for him because he was "having a banner year". The project, as a reminder, was to make my parents house-- both on social security-- more accessible for my paraplegic little sister and her four year old son. On principles of ethics and basic humanity, I would avoid this company at all costs. I understand they're not running a charity, but to be so dismissive, inflexible and inhumane as Shane treated this project and my family is inexcusable. If you're as outraged as I was about this situation, show them the only place it seems to matter-- their company checking account, and take your business elsewhere.

NOTE: I worked with Moe Satari at CGM and purchased my countertops via Cabinets to Go…read more Moe was patient and effective resolving issues created after the wrong color tile was installed for the shower floor and the wrong kitchen sink was delivered to the job site (not CGM errors). Getting the sink originally specified would have delayed our project 6-8 weeks. The incorrect tile color was still great, but required a change to the countertop stone selection. Moe walked me through the CGM slab yard and helped find a countertop slab which worked with the tile in the kitchen and bath and was also an option available for Cabinets to Go clients. I love it even more than my original choice! Moe also worked with the fabrication team and CGM management to find a solution which allowed us to use the sink we had on hand vs. having to re-order. This saved time and money. When white caulk was used in the bath vs. the clear used in the kitchen, the look wasn't what I wanted given the charcoal gray stone chosen. With CGM, I experienced zero pushback and no excuses getting that error corrected promptly and properly. Too bad this approach isn't more typical of those in the construction trades! How a business addresses problems says so much about their integrity and customer service. I'd definitely use CGM for future countertop installations. It was a good experience all around.

After months of dealing with demo and setbacks with mold, lead and asbestos we were very jaded and wondered if the house would ever be restored to its former glory. We had multiple friends who worked with Lane homes for their renovations and they all recommended them highly. Ed Lane came out in June 2023 six months after the flood once demo was complete. He was professional, knowledgeable, super communicative and set our minds at ease. Work began in July and we were told to expect it to last four months. In my mind I hoped it would be complete by Thanksgiving. We have lived in several homes over the years and used several different contractors and have NEVER finished a renovation a month ahead of schedule!!!! We just finished the end of project walk through today with our project manager Kevin Joyner and we are honestly a bit sad that we won't see Kevin and his team around here on a daily basis. Kevin went above and beyond the call of duty. He is EXTREMELY thorough and a complete perfectionist. He and his team were so communicative. He returned our calls/texts any time of day, night and on the weekends. We always knew what to expect the following day; who would be on site and when they would arrive and depart. I can honestly say in this months long process there was not a wasted day or lag time. Kevin is meticulously and expects the same out of his crews. From the painters, to the plumbers and finish carpenter each Lane employee was a delight to work with. If we ever move or renovate down the road we will use Lane Homes for all our remodeling needs. If every company was as honest, thorough and easy to work with as Lane there would be a lot less frustration in the world! The designer listened to our vision and came up with a beautiful plan that stayed in our budget. She even came with me to pick out appliances, countertops and light fixtures. I couldn't have done it myself without hiring an interior designer. Every workman in our home was courteous and professional! I always felt comfortable with the people in the house. The crews cleaned up every day and made the process as painless as possible, as we stayed in the house during the renovation. The workmanship and attention to detail was top-notch. I highly recommend Lane Homes! This was the 2nd project we have had them do and we will definitely use them for any future renovation needs!

I reached out to a few contractors and picked Josh because of his professionalism and detailed paperwork of the project. He was not the most expensive nor the least expensive, however he walked through showing my husband and I some problem areas that needed addressing. In researching his thoughts, he was spot on and we are grateful he pointed out these problem areas. He stayed in constant contact with us and showed us what he did each day. If he had to stop at a home improvement store, he let us know he would be a few minutes late. For the most part, he was there between 730 and 800 and did not leave before 500. He knew what our budget was and did not go over it one penny. The deck and screened in porch came out amazing, better than what we expected. He made the screened part to look like windows on the outside with the trim of the wood. The lower part of the inside he did a pallet look, which he suggested after the project had started, and did not charge us for it. I was thrilled when I saw what he did to give it a "rustic" look at no cost to us, but time on is part. There is no doubt we would hire Josh again, in fact my husband already has discussed a couple of other projects with him as soon as Josh has time. I paid/invested 5900 dollars and they built the frame (they never returned to complete the job nor provide a refund)which failed inspection, caused 1500 dollars worth of damage, refused to provide my insurance company with the name of theirs to determine liability, provided an inaccurate address to the state for their LLC so if you attempt to take legal action they can't serve him. Unaware of building codes, used the wrong required blocks for footings and instead of replacing just flipped over the pyramid style blocks. The list goes on and on. Pictures available to demonstrate lack of quality of work. They promise the world and deliver nothing. BUYER BEWARE.
