I'd like to clarify, this is certainly a real review. I was recommended to this psychiatrist for anxiety. I must apologize, because I didn't actually get to *see* Dr. Gallentin. This was because her receptionist was unbelievably rude. I couldn't find my insurance card over the phone, and she proceeded to take a tone that came off as needlessly annoyed. It felt like I was wasting *her* time when I tried to book an appointment, and genuinely made me feel anxious. Upon finding out that my insurance wasn't accepted, she began to lecture me on what was taken - notwithstanding that I really didn't care, because I could just pay out of pocket trivially. Perhaps she was having a bad day, maybe she was swamped, maybe she has a lot going on. But her stressors do not belong in that environment. I'm giving the doctor herself the benefit of the doubt since I didn't meet with her, but this is not the first review critiquing terrible staff, and it says a lot that nothing has been done about it. read more

I find it hard to believe all these positive reviews of Dr. Gallentine. I have gone to her and I know several others that have gone to her and have a negative opinion of her as I do. She is not very good and wants you to continue to go to her forever. She is arrogant, condescending, manipulative and not helpful. I definitely recommend Dr. Gallentine. I have been going to her for four years. She is always busy so make an appointment early. She has helped me with my various issues and I am now lowering dosage on my medication as I have learned other ways to deal with them. The two 1 Star reviews do not sound like her at all. She is not condescending but she is quiet and will listen before she offers advice. I guess this could come off as some kind of silent judgement but if you have nothing to talk about you shouldn't need therapy. I would advise writing down the things you want to work on and giving examples of how they are affecting you. Therapy is really hard and she will not agree with you just to make you feel better. You will be taking a long look at yourself. I imagine getting good reviews as a psychiatrist is hard when you make people face the things they don't like about themselves. read more

Dr. Gallentine is a rare find. She combines psychotherapy with medication management. She spends time with a patient. This will not be a 15 minute session and drug push. Patient will play a very proactive role in their treatment. Highly recommend. read more

Having never seen a psychiatrist before, it was extremely intimidating to make my first appointment. However, I found her really easy to talk to and very trustworthy. This doctor was mocking and condescending towards me because I have suffered with chronic, debilitating illness for over ten years preventing me from being able to work. She asked me, what did I do with my time. Without my raising the issue of my financial support, she assumed my father supported me, and told me she didn't see why he gave me money all these years - this is after I tried to explain to her problems I had in these relationships with family. When I tried to defend myself, she stated again that she didn't see why he gave me money. Later, she asked me if I became destitute, did I think that my siblings would give me money. I had just been explaining problems I had in those relationships, and I wasn't raising any issues of my personal finances. Yet, she wanted to know the answer to this question: would my siblings support me. I told her, if I was in financial dire straits, I would look for a job. She asked, how I would ever do that (looking me up and down). I said I hoped I would be well enough to do so. She has clients fill in an 18 page questionnaire and return it to her office prior to appointment. On the forms, she asks if you ever have nightmares. I checked yes, and she asks me what they're about. I said that they were dreams where I'm experiencing some sort of paralysis. She told me that her interpretation of this was that I was paralyzed in my life. I felt this was shallow and intended to hurt my feelings. She also asks on the forms if you've experienced abuse. I explained to her, when she asked me about it, that my mother used to hit us kids. She asked me what I did to provoke the punishment. I also found this hurtful. In the same appointment, she also wanted to test my memory and math skills. She asked me to count down from 100 using increments of seven, counting all the way down. Then, to test my memory, she asked me to remember two objects and a street address. Without telling me what she was doing, she let 5 - 10 minutes go by, asking me questions about other things. Then she asked me recall the words given to me earlier. When I could only remember the street name, she had me repeat the exercise. read more

I went in to see her after I fired my last psychiatrist for over medicating me to the point where I had a mental breakdown. I was hearing voices and seeing people. My therapist referred me to this lady. First off I have a neurological disorder that affects my thought pattern, memory, concentration and levels of energy. When she saw that I was in on Adderall she got this attitude like I was a druggie. I filled out the paperwork a week before but she didn't even bother to look it up. While she was asking me questions that I already answered on the sheet right in front of her, it sounded mean almost snarky like I was lying. I explained to her that my life was chaotic at the moment but she honestly could care less. She asked about all the Doctors I have seen and their treatments. When I got to a Doctor that had withheld medical information from me, about my own health. He lied to me and told me on paper I was perfectly healthy when in fact I tested positive for Lymes disease. He had no right to keep that information from me. I let her know that I was in the middle of a law Suit with him. She became almost angry asking why I would sue him. Well one he has no right withholding medical information from me just because he thought it was irrelevant . I also went through two spinal taps for nothing. She got all huffy at that point. I couldn't believe how I was being treated. She then goes to say that she doesn't feel like she can write my meds for adderall and ambian. The only way I can get out of bed is with adderall and to actually fall asleep I have to have ambien. So now I'm without medicine that I need because she didn't do her homework. I'm going back to see her after she talks with my other drs. But I will give her the same attitude she gave me. I would highly not recommend her to anyone. I'm already looking for another one. Dr. Gallentine is an excellant psychiatrist. I have been her patient for several years. She is extremely knowledgable about psychlogical disorders and treatment. She involves her patients in their treatment planning and encourages a whole lfe approach, rather than just dispensing pills. The biggest star goes for her up to the minute knowledge about drug interactions and new medications available. read more

In my opinion, Dr. Gallentine needs to use her psychiatry degree to do work in another areas of her field. If you are young, meaning under 40, and need help with anxiety disorder, DO NOT SEE HER. I am 26 years old, and saw her because I only needed help getting off of Xanax that I had been prescribed to for many years. This is a bit of what I experienced: She seemed very judgmental, and very cold. I felt that she thought every word that came out of my mouth was a lie. Her methods seemed very novice, for instance, I came in a week early to fill out paper work. Instead of reading the paper work before I came in, she sat there and literally read every single question I had answered. After the entire hour session, she only wanted to write me a script (in order to taper me off properly) on the condition that I would come in the following week with family. Now...I don't have insurance, and I am not rich. The appointment cost me $300 to begin with. How in the world would I afford another appointment one week later when it took me months to save up for this one? First of all, this is something I am trying to do on my own in order to benefit myself. My family is way too busy, and they would all agree with me that this is something I can do on my own as well. I cannot believe a psychiatrist would pretty much threaten me in order to write me a 1 week script. For those who are reading this who do not know about benzo withdrawal, it is one of the hardest withdrawals to go through. It involves months of tapering down the dosage. I never write reviews, but I felt so compelled to let people know not to go to her if they are dealing with anxiety and medication. It is no fun to deal with the threat of not getting your medication. Find someone else please. read more

Do not see Dr. Gallentine if you desire a nonjudgmental psychiatrist. I suffer depression partly caused by chronic pain and fatigue from three autoimmune disorders. Though she could not recall my medications and did not refer to my records, when I told her at each appointment the medicines other doctors (specialists) prescribed for me, she spent a lot of time telling me that I should not be on those drugs. This was undermining my confidence in my doctors. I asked her to speak with my rheumatologist, but she did not call her. Furthermore she spoke to me in a condescending manner, as a parent would to a disobedient child. She was so harsh, smug, cold and critical that I left her office in far worse shape than when I entered. Frankly, I left her office in a suicidal state. I am considering filing a complaint with the State Board, a thing I have never done before in sixty years. Also, I have seen excellent psychiatrists before her who have been a great help. Unfortunately my previous psychiatrists have gone to other positions in research and hospitals and no longer see patients. read more
