I went to this place to get my wedding dress altered. It's a bit small and may need a corset in the back. Upon me entering into the shop I was asked, "Are you okay?" I was a bit surprised. No "Hello", no "Hi, how are you". I responded, " I'm fine, are you okay?" The woman in the store (I'm assuming is Kathy) did not respond. I put on my wedding dress. Kathy did not try to assist me. Instead she said, " Oh no, just return this dress to wherever you got it from. David's Bridal or whatever. You're too big, this dress is for someone my size" I was astonished! This lady is very rude and nasty! I would NOT recommend this place to even a dog!! Please do yourself a favor and find anyone but this lady! What a complete waste of time and gas!!! read more

I really wanted to LOVE Kathy and I admit, the job I asked for was a complicated one but this was really botched, I wish she had just told me she couldn't do it. Some weave of a skirt had come out and the string was still attached, it just needed to be sewed back into place. I told Kathy not to cut it and she agreed. When I picked it up, not only were there knots that destroyed the look of the skirt, she had cut the string (although she said she didn't). It really was very sad. She charged me $15, which I didn't argue for but I really felt cheated. I thought the least she could do was tell me that it was not going to be possible and leave it. Not only was the job badly done, but she cut the string, leaving the damage irreversible. I don't think Kathy was out to cheat me, she really is the sweetest grandma. When I see her, I see my grandma, so I just couldn't bring myself to push back more. Perhaps she's better for straightforward alterations but I'm still shaken at how much I paid for a botched job that's left this skirt permanently damaged. read more

The place is small and not visible at first glance but its right off MacArthur turning to the left on 6th street, its right in front of a car/tire repair shop. I think I found my forever seamstress. Last year I had a dress (for a wedding) that needed some alterations and she's nothing short of amazing. I will using her services fairly soon and probably as long as I live in dfw area. I recommend for dresses, bring your shoes that you plan on wearing, and also your undergarments (i.e. spanx, corsets, waist clenchers etc.). She needs to be able to get an accurate measurement for the day of the occasion. This also can be used for slacks and tops, just take sure you have everything you need to try on. Also be clear with your deadline. Don't give her a time frame give her an actual date when you need it. She will write it down. If you have multiple garments in need of alterations, I would have this done as far in advance as possible. read more

With my wedding two weeks away, I needed to alter my dress but wanted to avoid the rush fee at David's bridal. Not only was she able to let my dress out, she did it in a week's time! I selected this seamstress from Yelp because overall the reviews were very positive; it's a shame that my experience was not. I took a long evening gown to be hemmed because I didn't want to trip at my son's wedding. The skirt portion was sateen material with a chiffon overall. Although she quoted $30, I actually charged $40 which I didn't realize at check out. After getting the dress home I noticed that she had NOT pressed or steamed the deep creases that were in the dress. I didn't ask her to do that, but I just thought she would want to hand my garment back in a wearable state. It took me over an hour to iron the very-full skirt. When I put the dress on for the Sunday wedding I I realized, a bit too late, that she had not hemmed the chiffon overlay, only the sateen skirt underneath. So as my son walked me down the aisle to seat me for the wedding I had a bouquet of flowers in one hand and the darn dress in the other. Very disappointed. read more

MS KATHY IS THE BEST! I went to her when I was in a wedding over 3 years ago when she was on 6th street. At the time, the wedding that I was in was during prom season, and Ms Kathy was so busy with prom alterations that her little cute shack was filled with customers! I remember a lady back then telling me when she left with her daughters prom alterations, that Ms Kathy is the best! A couple weeks ago I looked her up again and she moved to Pioneer and Irving Blvd. (behind the Planet Fitness), I asked her how long she's been at her new place, and she said since January! She has plenty of space for all her loyal clients now! I needed her to sew some patches on my denim jacket that I was making, and she did such an amazing job as usual, and her prices are budget-friendly people! There are alternation ladies that charge an arm and a leg but Ms Kathy is so reasonable! GO SEE HER! She does everything in a timely manner too! Thanks again Ms Kathy! read more

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN!!!!! We had six bridesmaids dresses and my moms wedding dress. We asked her to put straps on two dresses (the dresses came with straps to add) she decided to make her own and when they tried them on they were falling off shoulders bc they were so big and they were not adjustable. Three of the dresses we asked to be let out. She DID NOT LET THEM OUT. I told her I did not want my dress let out and she insisted to let an inch out. I was like no I am fine. She goes, "I'll let it out". I said fine do it. I put it on and NOTHING was let out . Also...... my mother wanted high low dresses we all told her the length we wanted. She kept trying to change my sister and I length on the dress. I told her no I like this length bc when you cut it it'll be a tad shorter which is what I wanted. She kept pulling it down. Finally I get her to do what I want. I come back to try it on and Mine was not cut, instead It was long again. She had to re pin and find the right length AGAIN so waste of a trip to her place. When I got the dress after it was done the high low cut was crooked. Wasn't even worth my time saying something. She'd charge us $30 more if I asked her to cut it. Then my mom gave her a pair of pants to let out. She picked them up tried them on they were smaller than before. My mom took them to another place and the lady said someone had taken them in. We each paid over $60 (some of us more) for worse dresses than when we came in. We were all so uncomfortable on wedding day bc we didn't want to keep spending money on the dresses we already had "fixed". So girls who got straps we had to safety pin together in the back so they'd stay up, we had to get creative to zip my dress. They had pull in like a corset so we could zip it up all the way. We wanted to get out of those dresses ASAP. We have to wear them twice..... great. So for all those errors we still had to pay if we wanted her to fix it she said she'd charge. I do not recommend this place. Crazy how so many people have five stars on her. We must have gotten unlucky. read more

Took about 7 different items to get tailored on a Monday. She told me 3 of the items would be ready within that week and the rest by the next week. The next week came and I had still not heard back from her. I finally called to check the status of my items a week later and she informed me that she has just barely started working on the items she was supposed to have finished the week before. At this point I told her to go ahead and finish what she had started but to leave the other items and that I would take those items somewhere else. This place is fairly expensive and for the prices she charges she should be able to complete the tailoring when she says she will be able to. Will never come back and would not recommend this place at all! She charged $35 to tailor a vest, $25 for a shirt, and $20 for a pair of slacks! read more

I tried Kathy's Alterations based on the reviews on Yelp and I wasn't disappointed! I dropped off 2 pairs of dress pants, one of them being brand new, white, lined pants and a pair of shorts and a top on a Friday, and she had them ready for me on Saturday! She did a beautiful job on all pieces and was very careful when working with my white pants. Her shop is small but efficient and she is very talented. Her pricing is also very reasonable--not like some of the bigger Cleaners around town. I will definately use her again! read more

I had a bolero made for me by a Nigerian tailor, which I will not name. I showed her the style that I wanted and she even drew it out. The drawing she did matched the photo and I felt comfortable enough for her to sew it for me. I bought the material and gave it to her to sew. She said it would be ready next week. I felt that would give her ample time to complete it. Next week comes around and I pick up the bolero only to find that it looked nothing like the picture. This Nigerian so called tailor made this the day of and just rushed the process of sewing. It looked so horrible. There was no way I was going to wear that bolero...with my WEDDING DRESS!!! I was panicking because I was leaving for Houston in 2 days. I called tailors all over Irving and none of them could fix the bolero until I came across Kathy. I took my botched bolero to Kathy and she said she could do it. She was even surprised at the work the Nigerian tailor did. She said "it looks like something you put on a toy". I couldn't agree with her more. Kathy took the bolero apart and created a masterpiece. She came to the rescue and made a beautiful bolero. She didn't even have to take my measurements or draw the picture. The Nigerian tailor is NOT an experience tailor at all. There were so many things that she did wrong it's unreal.
