I had been taking my dogs there for over 9 years. My husband brought our dog in for an appt & the owner said they could no longer groom him, he's too old & was having panic attacks. I was shocked. The review is strictly for their handling and job at clipping dogs' nails. I've never used them for anything else. After trying a handful of different dog groomers in my county, and realizing none of them are actually there for people with the normal 9 to 5:00, and the Aquarium pet store in Red Bluff verbally abusing my dog when he was terrified during the first nail cutting for him I ever did outside of a vet office, I realized I had to leave my County entirely. Luckily, Kathy's was the first place I found in Shasta County that had hours suitable for the average working adult, and I've never gone anywhere since. I've used them, I think three maybe four times now, and even though my dog is absolutely terrified at anything that has to do with animal care outside of our home, I still bring him here every time as his fear has nothing to do with them. They handle him well, even if he pees on the table due to his intense fear. They let me hold him while they do his claws, which was never offered by any other groomer I've been to with him. They are very patient and talk calmly and keep praising him, and even though he wants absolutely nothing to do with them after, I fully trust bringing him there opposed to the abusive place in red bluff. I will always come here as long as they are open on saturdays. They don't need or take appointments just for a nail trimming and even with my terrified dog it takes about 12 minutes absolute Max and I'm sure the average dog would take no less than 10 and it's usually like $11. Never had anything besides kind, professional, and patient people here. I live in this area, so I know how the culture is in this area with residents, and they are almost always 100% of the time the problem, not the business! read more

This used to be a golden retriever. Took her in for a little bit of matting in her tail and got this hack job instead. This was after the very rude groomer cancelled my appointment as I was driving there and made me come back the next day. She looks like she has a farmer's tan. The groomer tried to say she was so matted she had to shave her. No she was not. And even if she was, you should call the owner to ask what you should do. She should have just admitted she messed up. You don't just skin someone's dog without asking. Her nails are messed up. Her tail is choppy as heck. Our dog was unable to breath properly. Kathy's took responsibility and told us groomer was fired. Fast forward 8 months we were told by a very rude and impertinent "supervisor" we were banned from the shop..... because of "liability" and we should have done that already if we cared for our dog. We thought bu firing offending groomer was appropriate enough action, and continued until we were summarily dismissed from the business. Please..... do not use this business. There are better places that cost less and do a better job. I am planning on legal action now....because of poor treatment...and callous treatment. Would like to take back even the one star.... ZERO STARS would be more appropriate. My dog came in for a nail clipping and was INJURE BADLY by the staff. They neglected to remove his metal pinch collar and either tied him down or held his leash so that when I picked him up he had a 1.5 inch gash on his neck. I noticed immediately when I picked him up, I gasped at the blood and gore and the woman said, without surprise or hesitation, "Oh he came in like that." Like a groomer wouldn't notice a fresh cut right where they hold his collar. They were unapologetic and denied everything. I rushed my dog to the vet, where his neck was shaved, revealing dozens of puncture marks from his pinch collar. It was horrifying. When examining the wounds closer, it was obvious they had tried to clean the cut up a bit. I brought my dog back and showed them the damage and they still were't mean, but they completely denied responsibility, saying I must not have noticed. The ladies were completely neglectful, injured my dog and then covered it up. It would be impossible for me to warn against them more vehemently. read more

I have been a client there since the 90's with all of my dogs. Last week the owner phoned to cancel this week's appointment and all of my future appointments (I book for a full year in advance) as the groomer I have had for over 10 years left. I was told (rudely) that there was no way to work my dog into the schedule at all, that the soonest appointment wasn't available until after Thanksgiving. When I questioned him again about working my dog in, he told me this was all the fault of the groomer that left and he couldn't do anything about it and that I was basically out of luck. Isn't that the job of the owner to take care of his clients when an employee leaves?!? Within an hour of receiving that phone call I went into the business to pick up my dog's shampoo and the owner was on the phone. He told that person on the phone that he had TWO appointments available this week, one of which was the time slot I was originally scheduled for mind you, and that the person had their choice of slots. REALLY??? Not only was he rude, but he out right lied to me! As I have reached out to other local groomers, I have found that this is not an isolated event with this owner. Several have been previous employees and spoke of his unprofessionalism. We had a great relationship with our groomer and can completely understand why she left after speaking with others. My dog is a rescue and has lots of anxiety when it comes to being handed off to strangers for any reason. He was very nervous today when we went in for our first visit but they were able to groom him, which is a feat no one else has been able to accomplish so far. I took my lab/Irish setter there to be groomed. It was the first time using them. The staff was very friendly and very attentive to the animals. They listed to my concerns about my animal such as being deaf, her temperament and her health issues. They immediately found an embedded fox tail and informed me of it, so that I could have the vet address it asap. Upon picking her up they shaved her exactly as I had asked and gave her a bandana and a dog treat. I would highly recommend them !!! read more

First off I will start by saying, I have a young black lab. She is a gorgeous pup, she just turned 2 years old so I figured why not take her in for a groom and make her feel good. The second I walked into the shop my red flags instantly went up. The smell was so strong of dog urine & dirt. Yes I understand it's a groomer but after I had gone to a few different spots to check them out I did not get that smell. I had made an appointment a week in advance for 12 o'clock. I got there 15 minutes early knowing it was my first time there and would need to fill out some paperwork, I saw all the crates in the back room with dogs. My pup has never been in a crate before and that was okay I was willing to try it out, but the second I checked in a was asked for my phone number so I could be called when she was done I wondered to myself "well why can't I just wait here?" So I went ahead and let them know I wouldn't be leaving her there knowing it was her first time Incase she panicked. She continues to tell me the wait time would be 4-5 HOURS!!! What's the point of making a 12 o'clock appointment if my dog is going to have to sit in a Crate for 4-5 hours? I'm sorry but that office was not air conditioned at all and there was no way my pup was going to sit in a hot Crate for that long. Maybe I'm over reacting but I am a huge animal lover and I would never allow my animal to sit there that long. Even an hour is too long for me. Hope this is helpful to anybody who's animals are family and wouldn't want them sitting in a crate unattended. August 6th, 2018. I recently needed to find a new groomer for my Corgi do to the one I usually use has moved out of the area. After reading Kathy's reviews I decided to give them a try. The first thing I noticed when walking into their reception area was the noise... it was very loud!! Dogs barking, dryers blowing, not very comforting for a nervous dog's first visit. The staff then didn't seem to know that I had an appointment and kept asking for my dog's and my name. When I finally got checked in I reviewed exactly what I wanted done... bath, deep de-shedding, toe hair and nails clipped and to have her tush clipped tight and belly shaved to help prevent foxtail from getting trapped. They had me remove my dog's collar and put a slip leash on her. My dog at this point was starting to get anxious and instead of trying to get her to feel at ease they tried to drag her through the door to the grooming room. Needless to say my dog was not happy and I had to help coax her back. As I was leaving I did not have a good feeling but chalked it up to being a new place for the both of us. When I picked her up she looked beautiful, clean, soft and fluffy. Her tush was not trimmed as close as I would have liked but it was ok. It wasn't until I was getting her into my car when I noticed her belly was not shaved. I took her back into the shop, told them her belly was not shaved like I asked for and got a "being put out" attitude. One of the groomers took her back, shaved her belly and brought her back to me with out even an I'm sorry. Dispute all the good reviews, this groomer did not impress me and I will not be returning. read more

We brought him in and asked for a sanitary trim and clean up around his chest and stomach and the staff did an excellent job. Wouldn't recommend and will not be going back. Was my first time bringing me two small dogs here and immediately upon walking through the doors, I noticed a strong odor of wet dog/urine. Not something I've experience previously at a groomers. The receptionist was less than pleasant, no smile or greeting just a blank stare when I walked in. Strangely, just as I was walking up to the desk to fill out our information, the groomer was already coming out to take my dogs from my arms, removing their collars/tags and handing them to me. Didn't bother asking their names, and was very impersonal. She seemed in a big hurry to get them into the back and get started, even though I came 5 minutes early to the appointment in hopes of getting a feel for the place before leaving my dogs there for 4 hours. With that said, upon picking my dogs up, their haircuts looked good. I was pleased, paid my bill/tip and left. After getting home however, I realized that one of my dogs had a cut in her sanitary region that was most definitely not there before the grooming. Today it's looking very red and irritated. Again, I have NEVER had something like this happen with a groomer. If you want a decent grooming for your pet but don't care anything about service/ environment/ or possible hazard to your pet, this is the place for you. read more

I've always had a good experience taking my long haired Alaskan Malamute into Kathy's but this last time was the best its been. Beth and the girls did an awesome groom job on my Louie.
