I come here weekly during the summer and fall months to get all of my produce. The prices are competitive with local chain groceries stores and I love to support this friendly, small family owned business. They are open daily from 9am- 5pm and closed on Tuesdays from Mid July through Halloween. Today I bought some beautiful pumpkins and plan on returning later this week to get some mums for my fall decorations. Honey Bee Farms was there today giving away samples and educating people about local raw honey. A small business supporting another! There's parking surrounding the building as it shares lot space with the municipal offices of the city. It's quite a large space, great for expos, fairs, etc. I could even see it as a wedding venue; which it likely is. The parking situation is interesting and seems small at first, but I think it's surprisingly a manageable amount of room for the traffic through Royal Oak Farmers Market. It might require a loop or two around either side of the farmers market building through. What's most attractive about this farmers market is that it's completely indoors, with a handful of vendors just outside the entrances, so this runs basically year round, which I love! It's one giant space inside, completely dog-friendly and there are bathrooms available for use as well! The vendors are lined up table next to table lining the perimeter of the building and a smaller circle in the center, allowing the walkways to be in between these two "circles" and allowing for the ability to loop around the entire building without much thought. There is a wonderful variety in vendors at the farmers market, plenty of produce-based vendors, organic produce in particular, plant sales, snacks, and more art/craft-based vendors too! They are basically a small version of Eastern Market if you can't make it out to Eastern Market! I was in a bit of a hurry this first time, so I was only able to do one quick loop around, but I am definitely excited to come back here soon to look in more depth at all that they have to offer because there is a TON! I have been checking out all of the farmers' markets in the SE Michigan area this summer, and while Eastern Market will always be the best, I am thoroughly impressed with the Rochester Farmers' Market! It definitely exceeded my expectations & I'm kicking myself for only now realizing what a gem I have in my own backyard! There are an impressive number of vendors every single time you go. I wasn't expecting nearly this many, and I like that it's almost an equal blend of regular vendors & rotating vendors! The farmers' market is located in just a standard size parking lot, but it still contains enough room for a vast selection of vendors, and probably most importantly several produce vendors. Competition is healthy, especially when it comes to veggies & fruits I believe, because it doesn't allow any one vendor to create a monopoly over it. My pro tip is to always do a lap throughout the entire market first to scope out what vendors are here and selling what produce at what prices before you start buying! Additionally, a big pro tip especially for Rochester Farmers' Market is to get there EARLY! This market closes at 1 pm, which I feel like is uniquely early, and that basically means that things sell out FAST, especially from one-off vendors. If you get there after 11, you can almost guarantee that some of the things you might've wanted to pick up will be sold out or slim pickings. Sometimes it's hard for me to wake up because all I want to do is sleep in at the start of the weekend, but it's worth it for this market! What makes the Rochester Farmers' Market extra special is that they allow dogs & they always have live music! It does give you where area restaurants are located, and some stores, but within the sheds themselves, you really have no idea of who's going to be found where. We wandered through a few, and saw lots of veggie and other produce dealers, flower stands, some bakery, and some crafts/jewelry. Given that we were from out of town, the produce was not of interest to us. However, if we had known where to find all the craft stalls or bakeries that would've been helpful. Luckily, we walked to this area from our condo, and didn't have to deal with the insane parking. It was interesting and a fun way to kill some time.

It makes buying local produce more convenient for the residents of each city. Troy has its farmers market on Fridays from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Troy Community Center. Not the most convenient for those of us who work during the weekday, but if you work or live in the area, you can go during your lunchbreak. Free tote bags were given out on the opening day of the 2021 season. It is not the best farmers market in Oakland County and there were not as many vendors as I thought there would be, probably because it is not a weekend market. There are a few food trucks and some informational booths on public transportation and city services.

Some farmers specialize in organic vegetables, and there are some who offer vegetables and mushrooms used in Asian cooking. There are a number of bakeries represented, including Cannelle's, which offers fresh banquettes and sweet and savory pastries. Ground Control serves delicious coffee, hot and iced. Try my favorite, the iced vanilla latte. It's to die for. The artisans in the market sell items made out of wood, beads and ceramics. There are lovely wooden bowls and cutting boards, jewelry, pottery and even soaps and perfumes, just to name a few. There is even an artisan who sharpens knives, scissors and other blades. My family has a CSA with the Goetz Farm so we're at the market every week to pick up our box of fresh fruit and vegetables. I can tell you this market is very popular and well attended. It's a great place to grab a cup of coffee and a donut and sit down to enjoy the parade of adults, children, and dogs passing by. During the market season, there are several celebrations. I'm particularly fond of Halloween when kids, adults and dogs come in costume. I've been to a lot of farmers markets in my time, and Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market is still my favorite.
