We just eaten breakfast at a nearby restaurant, and decided to check out the Eastern market. This marketplace is spread out over several different buildings. There is a welcome center, but the map on the welcome center is not very helpful. It does give you where area restaurants are located, and some stores, but within the sheds themselves, you really have no idea of who's going to be found where. We wandered through a few, and saw lots of veggie and other produce dealers, flower stands, some bakery, and some crafts/jewelry. Given that we were from out of town, the produce was not of interest to us. However, if we had known where to find all the craft stalls or bakeries that would've been helpful. Luckily, we walked to this area from our condo, and didn't have to deal with the insane parking. It was interesting and a fun way to kill some time. read more

This was the first time I went downtown for the Saturday market. Have been here for other events, but in light of what's going on with all the food illnesses, my daughter said we needed to go here for our fruits & veggies. Her & my son in law started going a few weeks ago as they live a short distance away. I couldn't believe all the vendors & people! It was packed! How very exciting to see all the people come out for all these small businesses, farms. Vendors we talked to were all very kind. There was all kinds of vegetables and fruits to buy. There was also a varsity of bakers, and just different retail things. LOTS of flowers and plants for this time of year. I wish I would've taken more pictures to do it justice, but will do that next time! The 4 star rating is only because trying to park there SUCKS. To me, there doesn't seem to be alot of room to move around in those parking lots-an accident waiting to happen....otherwise, great event! Added note.....if you are looking for truly FARM produce, make sure to look for the farm signs. Also you can ask where they are getting it from if not showing an actual farm. My daughter has been going for a few weeks and gave me that advice-some of the packaged produce may not be from a farm. read more

Had a fun time at Detroit Eastern Market! The vendors were so friendly, and I really enjoyed the lively, local atmosphere. At the end of the market hour, produce venders were selling fruit and vegetables with reduced price. I bought giant nectarines that were looking ok. My belief is that the larger items are, the less flavors they bring. Sure enough, the nectarines I bought were mushy and flavorless. Still, a fun Detroit experience and definitely worth a visit! read more

Got a cool copper bracelet for a reasonable price. The vendor was super friendly and even offered to make different copper jewelry on the spot for us. Eastern Market is a historic public market that started in 1891. We came for the kick off of the Tuesday market that runs from June through September. The vendors are friendly and offer a variety of produce, flowers, and prepared foods. This is a mix of vendors in the Sheds and also open air. Everything is kept clean and there was a lot of people here for a Tuesday morning. We purchased flowers, food and went to one of the local restaurants for lunch. There are a lot of stores and restaurants, breweries, and distilleries to visit. Eastern Market is a great place to spend a few hours exploring and shopping. read more

Eastern Market is a fun destination in Detroit. I had been to the area before but hadn't checked out the market stalls until my most recent visit. There are several different "sheds" which are basically huge barns that house tons of different local vendors--everything from produce, plants, ready made food, apparel, sweet treats, handmade crafts, coffee and other drinks, etc. We had a blast looking around each of the sheds and saw lots of interesting items. We didn't end up buying anything, but I would love to go back again. The market is open on Saturdays year round, and even in the coldest January weather there were a lot of people there! They have extended hours in the summer months. One of the best parts of visiting the market was the ample free parking in their lots. We also had fun exploring the neighboring shops and restaurants! If you like a good farmers market, be sure to add Eastern Market to your list to check out. read more

This is a cold November review: We were visiting Detroit in November and a lot of palces list the Eastern Market as a must see/do place in Detroit. Of course it hit my list! And I wish we had a place like this near me! I do not know what the market is like in good weather but inside was packed with vendors (Think three building) and a good amount outside as well. Selling mostly food and produce. As a tourist staying at a hotel, I was hoping for more local artisans selling artwork and good old home decor. They were few and far between in November. Absolutely worth a visit if you are in town. We were here on Saturday morning, thank goodness, and spent the late morning pursuing the stalls. We had more pierogi than we needed to but they were incredible, competing with pierogi I had in Poland. We also grabbed coffee and visited quite a few bakeries. This farmer's market has been around for decades; it was a favorite of my grandfather and my mom said she actually got her pet rabbit here as a kid! They don't seem to be trading in livestock these days, although you can find pretty much anything else: plants and flowers, fruits and vegetables, food to eat while you're there, baked goods, coffee, honey, popcorn, candy, nuts, spices, and more. The space is divided up into multiple "sheds" (covered but partially open-air outbuilding spaces) which are clearly numbered on the roofs. Grab a map from the information booth or look on the website if you're trying to find something specific. There are some other food businesses right nearby as well, like Germack across the street. Lots of friendly people; nice way to spend a morning in Detroit. read more

They offer everything you could need. I bought vegan butter. They were having a flower event. This was a fun Saturday morning.

This is a huge area, prepare to walk and wander about. They have open air sheds (at least 5) that house a lot of the veggie stands, honey, meat, your typical farmer's market vendors. We picked up a bag of grapes for $1 and some heavenly huge Michigan cherries for $6. Then there are buildings that you can visit with year round businesses. A bar with live music, a coffee shop, a general store, a yard decorative sign store. We found parking for free nearby. read more

Eastern Market is a must-experience in Detroit. Large sheds, year round, wide variety of wares from fresh produce and food items to flowers and artisan-made and local products. Also really iconic photo spots. Very lively! They also host fun events, like their super popular Flower Market, and my latest favorite event series - Little Asian Bites' Night Market which brings together so much good Asian food from around Detroit and the greater area multiple times a year. The only thing that sometimes keeps me away from Eastern Market is that it tends to be super busy/crowded during popular events and to this day I have not really figured out the best parking. They have parking on-site, with I think the largest lot being by Shed 2, but it tends to be pretty hectic during busy hours and I find trying to park to be a little stressful. read more

Parking was a bit confusing, but there is actually free two hour parking around the sheds. There are different sheds with different vendors selling produce, meats, breads, pantry goods and ready to serve foods. It was fun to just walk around and see the difference in food compared to Texas. I found some Amish soup mixes, skin care, wheat bread, and a local honeycomb. There are plenty of breakfast options like crepes and soups if you don't have time to grab breakfast before the market. It's pretty cold even in the sheds so dress warm. read more

This is a large open market located in Detroit. Entry is free.There are food , shirt, hat and even home and garden vendors . There are some permanent storefronts located beside this so that you are able to step inside a temperature controlled shop, but for the most part traveling all around the market on foot is best because there is so much to see. read more

Went to Eastern Market Night May 28- arrived at 6:30 pm- NEVER going again! It was more crowded than Flower Market Day- so many people- you could barely walk, didn't know where the lines were for the few food trucks that were there- VERY DISAPPOINTING. Went in- saw it and left within 20 minutes. read more

Absolutely one of the most fun things you can go on a Saturday in Detroit. Spices, produce, meat, fish, artisan strawberry butter.....you can find it all. Eastern Market is a mix of small business growers and shops combined with large wholesalers that provide Metro Detroit with excellent food. There are also great restaurants close by. The "main" market for retail consumers is on Saturday. There is also a Sunday market that's more craft/art focused. It's smaller than the Saturday market, but is still a lot of fun. In the spring for Flower Day, there are tons of vendors selling various plants and flowers. It's a beautiful sight. read more

The Eastern Market team was so lovely to work with leading up to the event and the day-of event support was so wonderful as well. Great communication and support all around to help in putting on this successful event and I'm so appreciative of them all! It just reinforces what a wonderful space this is and how intentional they are in what sorts of events they want to put on here. They're not only trying to bring more people out to the Eastern Market district, but also want to celebrate and honor cultures of all kinds and showcase and celebrate that wherever they can. It makes me love Eastern Market even more and I'm so thankful for them for taking a chance on me and I hope this is just the beginning of a very beautiful partnership together! Eastern Market is known for their Saturday Farmers Market, obviously, but I highly encourage you pay attention to Eastern Market's calendar of events on all the other days of the week as well. In the summer, they have their Sunday Market that goes on in Sheds 2-4 and then basically have a special event that goes on every Sunday in Shed 5 as well that rotates throughout all different kinds of things! If a lot of cities have this sort of warehouse district turned into a market, this one was one of the more impressive I've seen. There was an abundance of both fresh food, potted plants, and prepared food items that drew massive crowds. I parked on the outskirts and was glad I didn't try to drive through the area. I found a pretty appealing crepe stand inside one of the buildings, and plenty worth looking into in the outdoor areas as well. I didn't have a ton of trouble finding open restrooms, and the space was open enough that I could often navigate around bad pedestrian behavior. Saturday appears to be the day they're open all year around, but I wonder if there are more events as when the market is not open, the area is pretty dead. We love coming to Eastern Market. It is a great place to grab an array of items, from flowers to pasta to honey to seafood to fresh meats... everything! Words cannot explain the size of the sheds and how vendors set up outside between the sheds. Flower day here is amazing! Bring a large wagon- double and triple deckers. You can get so many flowers for cheap! There is a handful of restaurants in eastern market, if you come hungry. There are sheds after sheds of vendors on the weekend. Most of the vendors sell produce and grocery items making the market a true locals shopping spot. However, there are a few food vendors if you go for lunch, just don't expect many. The Eastern Market District includes many restaurants and other shops around the historic market. Such a cool spot to checkout on a Saturday. This market is chock full of almost everything- clothes, jewelry, fruits & vegetables, plants, flowers, live music, etc.. Patking can be a challenge so plan to get there early or late before things start closing down. Dealers have major discounts before closing so it's probably the most opportune time to snag something. We were looking for plants and were lucky to get two nice sized ones btw $15-25 each. There is so much to see and experience here with many different booths to checkout. I had a time at this one, oh my! I felt like a kid in a candy store. Sooo much to choose from, nice juicy fresh fruits and veggies, vegan options, fresh teas's and juice. The most beautiful fresh flowers ( have a green thumb or trying to get one lol it's plenty of plants here ) every vendor was knowledgeable of their products, friendly ready to serve.
