I met Katie after following her dress rental site online for awhile knowing that I wanted to shoot in one of her dresses when I got pregnant again. I'm giving this review 3 stars as Katie is a nice person and talented at photography but as a business owner she needs to improve her practice. I did a model call, on 4/30, where I only paid for the dress that was $158. We were scheduled to shoot outside but it was raining, so she booked an inside location. It was down pouring and I was late. It's NYC traffic and I had to find a garage to park close. I'll own that I was late, it wasn't the intention at all, but for the late arrival, Katie snapped beautiful photos. I was so excited to get the photos. I emailed her asking when I would have them as 4 weeks passed, she then told me I never filled out the contract. I have done many shoots and never had an issue with the contract, but since it was a model call I thought maybe it differed. She claimed I opened it, I never received it. I checked every email and I would've preferred to have the contract right away because I sent her $158 without any questions, before even meeting her. Either way, she sends me the contract twice in 2 days, I finally did get it and filled it out. Now fast forward several more weeks later, I receive the water marked photos on a Friday night 6/3. Her email says 24 hours is best, but doesn't say I have to have choices back in 24 hours. Just it's best. I inquired about a few others and she answered quickly which I appreciated. This time she was very responsive. I made my decision on Tuesday 6/6 in the afternoon. So 4 days total to confirm the 5 photos I was included in my model call, that I paid for the dress but Katie did for free. Now here's the main issue I have, actually getting the photos. I tried every single day to download the photos, I couldn't get back into the password protected file. I emailed a little less than 2 weeks later on 6/18 saying I wasn't able to download the photos. 9 days later, on 6/27, Katie emails back saying they were up? Yet I never could log on. I explained every time I go back in, I can't download to get them. I can't even log in, let alone download. She said she would reactivate by the weekend. I tried again every single day, again nothing by the weekend. Now it's another week and a half later on 7/5 and I reach out again. Her auto reply says up to 7 business days to reply, but at this point I've been waiting since 6/18 for a way to get the photos. While yes they were free- I still paid over $150 for the dress and $25 to park in the city. So there was still cost behind it, and that doesn't include the tolls in. But I knew this and was so grateful for the opportunity I was more than fine covering this for photos with my daughter. So I emailed her again, on 7/8 asking for the link. I took these photos 9 weeks ago. I felt every time I had to wait for her reply it was another week, and another week. I texted Katie and shared my concerns (this was the first text as she shared her number when I did the shoot). I finally was able to speak to her vs waiting days upon days for an email and nothing to happen. We spoke and she claims I "opened the contract late" hence the delay, which is not true. I never received it until the shoot was already complete, which then yes I did fill it out. Then she said I was to wait 7 business days to download the photos, that would be 6/15 and then I would have 7 days to download for myself. I tried every single day and could not get into the photos at all, emailed her on 6/18 (which is within the time frame). Tried my phone, PC and MAC. Different IP addresses. So I did every single thing I could and kept having to wait. Then she claimed in email after we spoke on the phone on 7/8 that I was yelling at her, which I was not yelling I was explaining my part and how frustrating this was/is. Was I stern, yes. Yelling, no. It was weeks back and forth for 5 photos I just wanted to get and be over with. I finally did receive my photos today on 7/8 after I texted her and spoke to her on the phone. I still agree as I did before, they're very nice photos, and Katie is a nice person but her business sense is really lacking. A 7 day business turn around, at all times, is really long. The "I will send" affirmations just don't hold true. The runaround and lack of confirmation needs to improve. All I wanted was a solid email saying, here are the pictures to download. Done. I would have downloaded, saved and went on my way. I know she's busy and traveling a lot but this process was extremely frustrating even if they were only dress cost. If you don't mind this process and aren't phased by a 9 week turnaround, her work is really nice and she's a pleasant person. I just was really disappointed this happened, free photos or not. She's going to reply, with several of her facts laid out (which I shared above) but at the end of the day, it took her 9 weeks to send me 5 photos and if I didn't text her after all this riff raff back and forth, I bet it would have been another 9 weeks until I had them. read more

I attended Katie's photography retreat in beautiful Sandy, Oregon (Oct. 16-18, 2021). It was the most fun I've had in a long time! Katie was super welcoming, kind, respectful and extremely fun! Her photography skills are exceptional and I'm so glad I got to learn from her! The best retreat ever!! Katie really goes the extra mile to make sure it is FUN and EDUCATIONAL. I came home from Nashville and some of my regular clients are asking, "Your work is different now and its great, what's going on??" and I say the same thing every time, "I met Katie" and then I explain how I traveled from Ohio to Nashville for three days to absorb everything I could learn from her. Because of COVID, plans for a retreat that was set for June 2020 had been cancelled prior to the date the last payment due towards a service I did not receive. She is "legally" stealing from me based on a one sided contract she keeps throwing in my face. I understand times are tough but this is wrong & she knows it! If I get claims of defamation of her business because we "have not worked together" & my personal experience & review are invalid in her eyes then give me my full refund back! I have had 5 separate sessions with Katie and because of her I have decide to pursue photography. She is inspirational and so passionate. I attended a photography retreat that she hosted in Austin, TX in August and gained more than I imagined. I would consider myself an amateur photographer and now I'm more confident thab ever. The retreat was intimate and personal. We began the first night eating food made at the rental property that was incredible and Katie spoiled us with some headshots to start with some teaching moments. We spent the morning session in house with the sweetest family and learning from Katie while we got to practice shooting. I had hands on help with my camera settings, capturing lighting, directing the client, while observing her and others. We then spent sometime editing and learning about different options for contracts and styling. She took the time to take our own photos and show us how she would work with it. The evening we had another amazing family shoot outdoors and the following morning a sweet mama and baby session. In-between sessions we had snacks and drinks made for us and meals prepared.
