But I'm going to try my darnedest, cause I'm writing a review and words are, how do you say... Very important. Late last year I threw out my back at work, followed by my first ever tension headache (HOWCANPEOPLEGETTHOSEREGULARLY?) I did my regular "help I've screwed my back up AGAIN!" call to my chiropractor, who was able to reset things, but unable to relieve me of all pain. My dad emailed the lady he knows who massages. I was a bit hesitant because my dad has seen some pretty strange people in the past, I'm glad I was in such pain that I agreed to pick up whatever appointment Emily had available. It was one of the best decisions I made in 2010. I hobbled in to see her on a Saturday afternoon, I was surprised to find that she was not much older than I, very professional, and when we went over the little intake form her questions and comments were not only valid, but she seemed to take an actual genuine interest in how my (very physically demanding) job affected my general health. I have, in the past been underwhelmed with massage experiences because I feel like they worked too lightly on me- Emily was able to get in and really work the knots outta my muscles without it being uncomfortable. A good balance of strength and knowledge! She's now become the go-to for my dad, mum and I. I have finally been able to recommend somebody who is affordable, easy to contact and schedule with, and nice. She also let me know about a great deal this December where you could buy 4 gift certificates for a discounted rate and get a free massage for yourself - I was able to make my mum, aunt, and a couple friends happy to receive the gift of relaxation, while shopping local and getting a little something for myself!

So far I've felt huge tension relief and I'm able to focus at my sit/stand desk at work. Plus, my carpal tunnel has started to ease up after appointments. The space is warm, calming, and welcoming. They always have water and tea to help hydrate before or after appointments. Ball Sq is an easy walk from Davis, and there's plenty of parking to be had.

However, he immediately put me at ease with his calm, respectful approach and clear depth of knowledge. I felt comfortable opening up, which made a big difference in my overall experience. He asked thoughtful, thorough questions and took the time to clearly explain his approach and recommendations. This gave me a lot of confidence in the care I was receiving. Nothing ever felt rushed or impersonal; he was genuinely attentive and invested in my situation. One unique aspect of the experience is the brief massage following the treatment. It's such a relaxing and helpful addition that really enhances each session. I truly felt cared for and supported throughout my visits. His team is also fantastic warm, welcoming, and professional. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a thoughtful, compassionate acupuncturist.

So it is very easy for me to enthusiastically support and get behind the Tam Healing Center because they helped me NOT to be in a wheelchair. Sometimes in life we all need a helping hand and often when you have exhausted Western medicine's surgeries and medications, it is hard to know where to look. Many of Western medicine's treatments for illness and trauma, carry many risks and side effects, worse than the original condition. Acupuncture and other therapies prevent illness by optimizing your health and wellbeing. The Tam Healing Center is a special place dedicated to using alternative therapies to promote natural healing and recognizes the connection between mind and body. You will find acupuncture is at the core of these options but there is also herbal medicine, cupping, and collective meditation. As soon as you step foot in the Tam Healing Center you will be supported but encouraged to own what you are responsible for in the experience. There is little room for self-pity or "poor baby" here. However, you are listened too and people with chronic conditions and chronic pain are particularly well served here! Three hospitals and entire teams of neurosurgeons said I would be in a wheelchair on a breathing tube, "like Christopher Reeve," but instead I am checking out the Tai Chi at the Tam Healing Center and going hiking! Are you ready to go to the office of healing?

Over the years I have…read moregradually been doing some major damage to my back via working late hours and tolerating the stress at work. I've gotten many, many massages over the years to help relieve the dull and nagging pain I have in my neck and upper back. I have a Massage Envy subscription (which I just terminated today) plus I go to a number of Chinese and Thai massage places to supplement. When I found Fong's Massage Therapy I was looking for the highest rated Yelp! business in Boston Chinatown... And then it was history... I actually just showed up randomly on a Sunday to see if I could get a session in. First, I was expecting a store front on the main level of Washington Street but it's actually in an office building of sorts where you have to buzz in. There's no major signage for Fong's except for the buzzer label. The office is nice and very comfortable (nice cool temperature, soothing lighting and music and comfy BarcaLoungers for waiting. I didn't have an appointment but Kathy was available. I didn't realize it was cash only so I said I would come back after going to the ATM. However Kathy offered to perform the treatment and then I could go get cash but just leave my ID. I was like wow! And I wasn't sure what to do so I ended up doing what she suggested. The first session was amazing. Kathy basically checks out what's wrong and then administers the appropriate treatment. The method here is not like some of the many (excellent) massage therapists employ where there's almost a set sequencing of therapy. I was really tight so Kathy walked on me first to loosen me up. And then the remainder of the session was pretty intense--I usually fall asleep during no my massage therapy sessions but the pain was so intense and body work so deep that I couldn't fall asleep! The first session was so good that I set up an appointment for about 10 days later. During my second session I had gua-sha (spooning) done. This is where Kathy too lo a Chinese soup spoon and "scraped" it all over my back, neck and arms. Wow, I felt really good afterwards. Fong also checked me out as Kathy saw that I had a mountain of a knot on my back. Fong said there was a misalignment and that an adjustment would be helpful. I wasn't mentally ready to get adjusted then but I am today (third session). I am waiting for my treatment and I am hearing the "screams" of pain coming from the patient currently being treated. I can't wait!

I think she has a good heart. But I don't think she should be working right now. She needs to choose between her job as a healer and her job as a nurturer for her child. Her communication timetable is not reliable, which was evident in that it sometimes took her quite a bit to get back to me. This hit particularly deeply when, in the middle of herbal treatment (during the pandemic, no less), I gave her an update and asked a few questions and then didn't hear back from her for over a month. It wasn't that my email was missed, or that it went to a spam box. She just left it. To her credit, she apologized about this, but being as I had explained to her my experience with other doctors and healers not listening to me, I was so disappointed that I just give up on her entirely. It was the final nail in the coffin that has made working with her feel completely unreliable. Who would want to work with someone to heal who you have shaky confidence will actually be there for you? It's, perhaps, a case of "taking on more than you can chew." I hope one day Marilyn is able to figure out how to strike this balance so that it is easier for her future patients to have faith in her.

But the pain always came back within the next hour. Someone suggested acupuncture, but I was hesitant. Then one day, I mustered up the courage to try it out, and that's when Sharon did wonders to my neck and pain areas. Sharon is one of the acupuncturists at this clinic. She started out by asking a lot of questions to figure out where exactly the pain was and how long it was going on for. And after that, all I had to do was relax and let the wonders of acupuncture do its work. At the end of it, I felt relaxed and I was able to freely move my neck again! I'm no longer afraid or hesitant of acupuncture; rather, I'm very thankful and it's something I want to encourage more people to explore. If you're experiencing any pain, if massages and spas and chiropractor treatments don't seem to work, try acupuncture! And I highly recommend scheduling an appointment with Sharon at this clinic!

After seeing multiple doctors with little to no progress, I turned to acupuncture as a "last resort", which now will be the first place I turn to moving forward. During my first appointment Philip spent a full hour going over my health history in detail, and I can confidently say I've never felt so heard or understood by someone in the medical field. We started with weekly sessions, gradually shifting to bi-weekly and then monthly as I improved. Thanks to Philip's thoughtful care, my gastro issues have been fully resolved and I no longer require regular treatment. On top of that, Philip has also helped me recover from a few short-term colds and illnesses using a combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine. The entire team at North End Acupuncture has created such a warm, welcoming, and peaceful environment which made every visit something I looked forward to. I cannot recommend them enough!
