If a class is touted as beginner level, then only beginners should be in the class and the instructor should 1)be prepared and have the class planned before they get there w/all music preloaded and 2)TEACH THE BEGINNERS, not cater to the people who have already taken the class. The second week we were there my husband noticed another class of teenage girls using vulgar language in the halls toward a girl helping teach the little ones. Which reminds me, why is she helping anyway? She cannot be more than 14 and is NOT their teacher, I would hope that they would ask her to stay out since she is causing more of a distraction than help in the class. The teacher that is there was absent the second week, which i understand. Kids need structure and repetition, so far I have seen none. There is NO sense of letting the children know where they are supposed to be in the room which practicing. Matter of fact, a little girl was standing directly to my daughters right, a bit in front of her, so every time she put her arms out she would basically slap my kid in the face. I was the one who was forced to go move my daughter so she could learn. The teacher said not a word. The music they play for this age group with the selected "standard" teacher is NOT kid friendly. It was when they had a substitute there but not with the normal teacher. Back to the foul mouthed teens in the hall. last night I removed my youngest from class because she had no intention of being attentive and caused distraction. As i was waiting, these children were telling stories with adult language and adult situations. I complained and they were scolded to a response of "so what?". Then the fake apologies came and didn't pay them any mind because no one else took it seriously. Now for MORE great fun about this "dance studio". Ordering shoes. We paid them 30some dollars for a pair of tap shoes that were to be ordered after payment. I asked yesterday when they would arrive, to which the woman responded "you haven;t paid yet so I did not order them". After making her listen to the words that were coming out of my mouth and not sitting in her head she found record of reciept and I asked her to cancel the order and refund the money. Which she could not do because someone else is in charge of the money. Never telling me what or when I would hear about the refund. Great business strategy. Lastly, let me say that in comparison to a school I took my kids to in Leavenworth, this place lacks an utter regard for teaching with the current regular teacher. Were as the substitute last week would help the kids get the feet positions by going over to them, lining them up and speaking like they were children the other teacher, L, just let's them flail about. With their mothers in tow. I never really understood the immense boost it gives a child to have the parent out of the room so they can focus until now. Kids were darting in and out of the actual dance floor to their parents, getting drinks from them, having them escort them to the water fountain (which there are breaks for drinks often), and mothers out there teaching the kids where as L should be doing it herself, especially if she has her young "helper" who seems to annoy L. Overall,this place needs to figure it out. I understand small kids are new and attached to to mommy but teach needs to assure mommy that her kid will be OK and mommy needs to sit in the hall. That is why there are chairs, not so the other kids can talk about being exposed by a boy. I highly doubt we will return. And I would never recommend them to anyone.

I can't believe I've lived in KC for so long, and I just found Wyandotte County Lake…read more This is a 12 minute drive from where we live in Parkville MO, so we can be paddling or hiking within 10 minutes from leaving our house. A few things to know: 1. Kayaking or Paddleboarding- you must have a permit (sticker) displayed on your craft. You purchase this at the marina office - and they are closed Tuesday/ Wednesday. It's $60- season. We hear they are strict about enforcing this. The launch spot is very close to the marina office- and is amazing. The launch point is zero entry and it has a parking lot- so you don't have to drag your craft very far. It's great! We kayaked on a Saturday and only saw a couple of boats. We love the calm quiet water and the beautiful nature experience. 2. Hiking- there are over 10 miles of hiking trails around the lake. They are maintained by Urban Trail Co- and their site is where they post trail closings (they are closed after big rains). The trails are pretty hilly-and we have been using them for Colorado Backpacking training. It's perfect! Bring bug spray- and I wouldn't recommend going alone since they are very isolated in the woods. There don't seem to be clearly marked trail heads- we parked at the spillway parking lot or the shelters seem to trail entry points as well. Go get outside! Enjoy! ‍

I took my two grandkids to this park to check out the playground. The playground is large and…read moreexpansive. The kids enjoyed their time there. There were some low spots under some playground equipment, where a recent rain had made little ponds of mulch. There are public bathrooms right by the playground and a variety of benches. It is in full sun, but the day we went it was cloudy. The park itself is enormous because I drove around and it took quite some time! The positives about the park is the playground, the beautiful lake, driving through the park reminded me of driving through a deciduous forest. They have a marina where people were loading boats to take out on the lake. There was a variety of little gravel parking spaces here and there as you drove on the road. If it was somewhere near an opening to a little spot by the lake, then I would see a guy standing and fishing. During my time driving through the park, I only passed two cars. I think most people are concentrated in the play area, which was not that many people. Or they are using the marina for boating, or there is one area where you can park and I think go down and view a type of dam which I did not look at. That is the positive things about the park. I did not notice any wooden trails or trail markers, I noticed one paved path that said it was a trail and it looked like it was wide enough that biking people could use it. I think there is a lot of under utilized space in this park that could be used for better use. The positive about that being under utilized is that wild animals are probably enjoying it! I do feel that aspects of the park are unsafe. For example, there is a building right next to the play area, I don't know what it's used for but multiple windows had been broken out and then replaced with board. Then other window windows were just simply empty like they gave up. They had a large and high fence surrounding the air conditioner that led to that building so obviously people had probably stripped the air conditioner in the past for components to sell. Also, there was quite a bit of trash on the playground, which I walked around and picked up. Their trash cans are not covered. They're just open black bins with the top cut off to throw trash into. That is probably why I saw multiple ones tipped over because wild animals like raccoons are getting into them. I only saw one Park Ranger, and that was near a tree company that was dealing with a tree that was knocked over in the storm. They have a lot of side roads that we have a sign saying it's leading to a shelter for a picnic. I drove up three of them and it will take a while to get to a particular shelter and they will have a swingset and maybe one other toy, but they are very downtrodden looking. The shelters are in bad condition and very dark because the trees around them need to be trimmed. They do seem to have bathrooms by the shelters. I noticed that the hours of this park are from 6 AM to midnight, which is pretty long to stay open for a park. I feel like that leads to criminal activity. When I would drive down several of these longer roads leading to a shelter, there would be occasionally one vehicle on a little gravel parking space and just sitting in their car. If they had trails in this park, I would not feel safe by myself in hiking on them. I think the reason there is hardly anyone at this park because there's really not much to do except fish and they didn't even seem to have a lot of areas to do that unless I missed it, I think the marina seem to be the busiest area. I probably would not go back to this particular park for these reasons. I think it's a shame because it's so large and beautiful but very under utilized in the acreage about what could be on this park.

Katie's Dance Studio is the best! We have had kids in multiple classes for years. Miss Haley, Nevaeh, Susanna, Addy, Kim, Kylie, Krista, Kira, and Katie are so much fun, and it is wonderful to see our kids learn and grow so much from them. They are welcoming and kind to all, and make young kids and teens alike feel so supported. No matter what mood my kids come in with, they all leave with the biggest smiles on their faces. These are instructors that can make your kids laugh and feel comfortable immediately. This leads to a natural motivation to improve, as kids always want to do well for teachers that they love! The pressure free environment coupled with pure positivity and love for these kids stands out from other studios to me. On top of that, the instructors are beyond talented at what they do and my kids have all made huge improvements in their skill sets. Also shoutout to Brooke in admin - she is amazing too and always on top of everything! I have yet to have a question she couldn't answer. Try out this studio, it is a true gem! read more

As a military parent, I have been stationed a lot of places and had my children in multiple different studios, and Katie's is one of the absolute best! Her teachers are all very well trained in dance and skilled in working with a variety of children. They are consistently friendly, helpful, professional, and respectful of the children and parents. I especially appreciate that the teachers, while still being fun and caring, expect that all students who come to the studio be willing to participate and learn -- I've been places where one disruptive child took so much of the teacher's attention that the rest of the class got almost no lesson time. This is a really creepy studio that does very bizarre things. At a recent recital I actually witnessed some of the parents calling the police on the studio because the studio kept the kids confined and would not release them or allow the parents to speak with their own kids. It was seriously crazy! The police ended up going in and picking up students and bringing them out to their parents under armed guard. Scarey! This is a 3rd rate dance studio at best. The acrobatics is even worse. I have lived in 5 states and 3 countries. With 4 daughters I have been a customer at lots of dance studios. This is absolutely the worst one I have ever seen. Ballet and Hip-Hop are particularly bad here. Their tap/clog program is the only thing they have that is halfway descent. The acrobatics program is embarrassing. Unfortunately, not a lot of other options in the immediate area, but probably worth the drive to go elsewhere. read more

LPA does a great job with transitions - when my kids have been in clingy phases, at drop off someone will hold the kiddo while mom and dad leave until kiddo is ready to get down and play. Or when my kids have transitioned to the next room up as they grew older, if kiddo wanted to be dropped off in the old room, that wasn't a problem - kiddo was happy to see their previous room teacher, and then the teacher would transition them to the new room after mom/dad left. If you are a nursing mom, the infant room was great about following feeding cues and not over feeding baby or wasting breast milk. The preK program is wonderful - my oldest loved it and learned a ton, but it is still very play based. My youngest particularly loved Evelyn, and the feeling is clearly mutual. Evelyn is amazing with the kiddos and my daughter loves being in her class. If you need summer or off school care, the options are great. My oldest goes over school breaks and in the summer, and they plan field trips and activities at the center for the school age kids.
