Very overpriced, but good. We got custard here tonight, and were shocked when the price for 2 of us came to $20 for a little bit of ice cream. They had asked if we want whipped cream, and we said sure, but they didn't tell us it would add $1.20 extra. Since when does whipped cream on a shake cost extra? And at least tell us! The small shake was over $7 too, and it was so tiny. So, although I enjoyed my peach cheesecake custard, I felt a bit ripped off and won't come back. read more

Katie's is a staple in Waco, and their ice cream is FRESHHH. They make their ice cream daily, and you can tell by how fresh and creamy it is. I can honestly say this is one of the best ice cream locations in Waco. I'm working my way through all the flavors on the menu as a new resident. Me and my granddaughter were anticipating visiting Katie's after playing in the park so we patiently waited for the 3pm opening time. Baby girl fell asleep but I didn't. I kept it simple with a single scoop chocolate cone and of course it was delicious. On the menu board they advertised a chili cheese coney which looked really good. On my next visit to Waco I want that coney too. Katie's is not a dine in establishment. Your options are drive thru or walk up window. When weather permits there are plenty of picnic tables on a covered patio out front. And if you require or desire gluten free sweet treats this frozen custard is a wonderful option. read more

Katie's offers drive through service but it is not quick. There's only one drive thru window that handles ordering, payment and handing over your order. This means they won't even start your food until you get there. The hot dogs are big, but careful if you want to give them to a kid. A kid may call it "spicy," meaning flavorful and juicy. The slaw is big, as I'm not finely shredded. Makes for some big bites if you can a slow dog (which apparently includes chili). It was an OK meal. Eh, not very impressed with this ice cream place. They keep weird hrs, and the staff who run it are a bunch of non-customer service minded people. Blah. They need to hire better people. Also they charge entirely too much for dinky little cups of ice cream. Not impressed. Then they will try to ask you if you want whipped cream on top of it and charge you even MORE. They won't tell you that the whipped cream is extra. Wow. I would just go to Sonic and you'll probably have a better experience. Spend your hard-earned money elsewhere! read more

A literally must try in Waco!! I had Katie's almost once a week for most of my time as an undergrad at Baylor. Even 4 years later, it is still absolutely delicious. My favorite is an oreo cyclone with whipped cream!! The banana sundae is also yummy but I would recommend sharing with a friend because it's a lot to finish alone. Around October, they do a seasonal pumpkin pie cyclone which is another favorite of mine. On a hot Texas day, the picnic table area wasn't the most appealing but after the sun goes down, it's a fun place to hang out. Can't wait to stop by on my next stop through Waco. read more

When they first opened I was not too excited about this place. But I was being unfair. As a child we were taught that frozen cow milk is the way, now as an adult I can actually say it's good. 5 stars. The service varies but it's never been bad personally. We stopped at Katie's on Tuesday afternoon on our way home to Austin from Dallas. We were craving a sweet treat and our toddler was getting restless in the car. We love old Texas gas stations, and this one was converted into a pretty cute place. We ordered a half frito pie combo, a small cookies-n-cream cyclone and a butter pecan custard on a cone. The frito pie was pretty sad: likely some canned chili tossed on fritos with a bit of cheese. But the custard is what really matters, and our review would actually be a lot more positive if two of our items weren't melting on the spot. The oreo cyclone was half soup by the time it came out to us and we were all furiously licking the butter pecan cone like psychopaths since it was dripping everywhere. And this wasn't happening because of the Texas heat! The small, sprinkled chocolate scoop that came with the combo was perfectly fine. Complaints aside, the custard is awesome. It's suuuuuuuuuppppper creamy and (when not melted) very thick. Service was terse; prices are a bargain. We didn't leave super happy, but we can see ourselves giving this place another chance in the future. read more

Pretty amazing for a frozen treat. Dunno if its worth the drive from Austin to Waco though. One of my friends really hyped this place up so I was ready for the best custard ever. Yet after getting my strawberry shortcake I was mildly disappointed. Custard was nice and creamy and all but everything else was kinda lacking, missing something. My friends got the heath bar shake/cyclone/i don't remember, and that made me regret my decision all the more.
