At the events, they serve beer and wine and light refreshments. Network Nights is free to attend. Definitely bring business cards with you and an open and inviting mind to meet other people. Network Nights occurs on Thursdays from 5-7pm. The Chamber also has a Young Professionals division (CYP). The CYP also holds networking events through out Fort Bend county with the intent to connect young professionals in the community. Getting to know other business owners and managers in the community on a personal level is invaluable not only for the comradery, but also for the trusting relationship built to do future business together. CYP events are also held on Thursday nights, typically from 5-7pm. Plus, the staff are friendly and helpful. There are so many books (duh,), learning games for toddlers, and computers with so much educational games. If you have a toddler and a school-aged kid, you'll like it here. Your toddler can play with the toys while you can guide your scholar with some learning games/activities. There are 6 study rooms you can use for up to 2 hours at a time. It's a first come, first serve basis and you'll need your library card or ID to get a room. I personally like this especially when we start working on his workbook. This gives us space and freedom discussing (we talk a bit loud sometimes). Definitely recommend this place.

The study room itself is somewhat outdated but still serviceable. However, I did encounter what felt like an undercurrent of bias from one of the librarians. While using the study room, something about my appearance - perhaps the combination of my skin color and my casual attire of shorts and an oversized sweater - seemed to trigger a prejudiced reaction. It's possible the librarian didn't realize or care that my 'starving artist' look was actually the result of my hectic life as a med student cramming for exams. A word of advice for fellow people of color considering a visit: you might find it beneficial to dress in a more conventional, 'soccer mom' style to sidestep any potential judgment.

The context of this review is from my daughters experience at the Spanish Consulate in Washington DC. Her experience at the Spanish Consulate was one of the worker being truly welcoming, and interested in why she was going to Spain (student Visa) and even gave hints at what to do, experience and tips on culture to make her visit more enjoyable. Pretty high bar set. At this consulate, think more the Soup Nazi in Seinfeld. get in line, look straight ahead and don't bring attention to yourself. They got the job done (up check). Were they pleasant, ehhhhh truthfully no, any tips on enjoying Angolan Culture, no way, did one of the attendants even say a word to me......no (used some form of sign (language). If you have your paperwork squared away (it is complicated and you will need a Visa service), don't make an ass of yourself, are respectful, and your check doesn't bounce, you can be in and out of there fairly quick (longest time for me was two hours, shortest time was ten minutes). There was an older lady who works there, who is very tough, but after being helped by her about ten times, I did finally get a thank you out of her (and I believe a smile). :) Waiting room is fine, and quite nice if you like European soccer. They do have a water container there (nice if a hot day in Houston), but for the love of everything that is right and holy, don't use your phone in the waiting line (or the room for that matter) or try to argue. Just like the soup Nazi bumped Elaine out of line, they will tell you "NO SOUP (Visa) FOR YOU, COME BACK THREE MONTHS!!!!!
