I found this place by accident when I had to deal with Houston Code Enforcement. I was walking…read morearound I noticed this GREEN living deal in a certain section of the building. What I found was a new adventure! Do you remember when you first visited the museum and you were zapped into another world!?! Well this was one of those experience I had when I visited the Green Building Resource Center (GBRC.) This place is so neat! They have 40 solar panels installed on top of the building. Plants growing on mesh on the side of the building that provides shade. They also offer recycling here from cans, old phones, old electronics, to old batteries. So bring in your recyclable materials here! The display area has many Green products offered by prestigious companies. They provide info for solar energy, water conservation systems such as rainwater harvesting, info on indoor plants for better air quality, recycled building materials, insulation information, creating your own rich nutrient compost, the list goes on and on!! I got many great ideas to improve on my home and save money by exploring this place. I was here for maybe 2.5 hours enjoying my new find. I was really reluctant to leave but eventually real life calls. I met Mr. Stelzer here who was more then willing to explain everything about Green Living and the environmental friendly products in the display room. I found out that commercial buildings that follow LEED certification get a 10 year tax savings on property tax. If only they offer this for residential properties... Imagine all the crazy pro-Green houses that will boom from this?!? Still the benefits in living Green is that it saves you MONEY on electricity and water bill. This building is off of Main so it is right off of the railway system. This is the beautiful Cathedral located in the center of Houston, and it's definitely one of the prettiest religious buildings around, and it looks old and small compared to what you might be expecting if you've visited the grand cathedrals of NY, DC, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and so on, but I think it's absolutely gorgeous and adds a lot of character and charm in downtown Houston.

Even if you check in early, you are probably going to be seen precisely at your appointment time. Fill out the renewal application online, print it out and bring it with you. Make sure to have any other necessary paperwork needed. For me, even though my Texas DL was issued initially way back in 1982 and obviously renewed continuously since then, I still had to bring either my birth certificate or my passport (one of those two documents was indeed requested when I was being helped). Renewal fee is $33 -- but cash is NOT preferred. Credit or debit cards are what is requested, so make sure you have one or the other. I remember years ago waiting in line for literally hours at the Grant Road office. When this office opened, it wasn't much better than the older, much smaller office, so I didn't see the improvement. They must have figured out how to streamline applications and renewals, because I was in and out in 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment. Thank you, DPS, for eliminating the nightmare we all used to endure.

We scheduled my oldest son for his driving test at the DPS office in Spring, TX. This location is…read moreby appointment only, and they check that as soon as you enter. There's a kiosk to check in using your phone number or barcode, and forms available if needed. We checked in easily and waited. The office is huge--tons of seating and 40+ desks. Our 12:30 appointment started a little late due to system-wide internet outages (which they announced, offering vouchers to return another day). We decided to stick it out. After switching desks due to a tech issue, the second employee was kind but hard to understand behind the plexiglass. Still, he got everything scanned, fingerprints done, and sent us out for the test. The driving test went smoothly, and my son passed! Funny moment--there was no parking when they returned, so the instructor had him park in a spot reserved for a trooper. The trooper knocked on the window, but the instructor intervened, saving him from a ticket. No one likes going to the DMV, but this experience was efficient, mostly smooth, and positive despite the tech hiccups. Four out of five stars--drop the plexiglass and it might be five.

Kendall library is a mainstay in Energy Corridor with strengths being the cleanliness and accessibility. It's close to the Terry Hershey park so you can walk/bike here and there's a good amount of parking here. The library is three stories and has areas for children and young adults. I found myself on the second floor where I occupied one of the two study rooms to get some work done. There's also a meeting room and several computer cubes to do internet research. Not to mention plenty of books and movies for checkout. Public libraries continue to be one of the best complimentary free services for the general public and this one is one of the better ones I've been too in the Houston area.

I visit this library frequently, and overall, it's a solid place for studying, researching, or just…read morepicking up a good read. The building has three floors, each well-organized and offering a wide variety of books across different genres and subjects. There are also plenty of computers available, which is great for those who need access to tech or a quiet place to get work done. The library has a couple of reservable rooms, which come in handy for group work or private study sessions. I appreciate how spacious and functional the place is--there's rarely an issue finding a spot to sit or work. That said, it's not the coziest library. If you're looking for comfy chairs, soft lighting, or a warm atmosphere to curl up with a book, this might not be the vibe. But if you want a practical, well-stocked, and resource-rich space, it does the job well. They even have a 'little free library' that's only 1-4 min walk away from the parking lot. Def check it out!!
