There are restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, entertainment, venues, etc. You really don't have to leave KATY to do much of anything. Everything that you may need is here I can remember when Mason Road had no businesses from I 10 to Morton Ranch and now it's grown and businesses on both sides that been developed. At the time when I moved here Martin ranch stopped at Mason Road. It didn't go all the way through like I did now that was a great improvement. Also 99 stopped at I10 and now it goes almost around the whole city. You will enjoy your time here when you visit or if you live here.

Now all that's gone and there is restaurants, grocery stores, Walmart, tons of shopping, water parks, doctors offices etc... I don't mind shopping and restaurants but let's leave the old trees.

North what I was expecting…read more North Houston is a land that I don't venture to very often. It's pretty built up, somewhat lower income compared to West Houston, parts of it anyway, and has a lot of people. When we come to this part of town, it usually is to try some of the great food, such as the Latin foods, and there's a lot of great African-American Foods in the Northeast portion (such as Burns BBQ), and then if you go a little further north into the Spring area you can get some good Vietnamese places, good Boba and whatnot. Cypress and Woodlands are bougie areas, but they have a few treats in them too. And there's some good stuff over towards the Northwest as well, including some wonderful Latin and Korean areas. I don't love the traffic on the highways during the weekdays up here - especially on 45, and parts of 610, but generally it's cool - and one of our favourite Thai restaurants is up this way as well. The one problem is that the Heights (where Barbi lived for years) are creeping up into other neighbourhoods and starting to expand, which means the rich people (of the Heights) are pushing northwards, and they're also pushing Southwards from the Woodlands, so before you know it this whole entire massive portion of Houston might be gentrified, and I will be sad. But that's the way it goes. Houston is one of my favourite cities in the world. It's the 4th city in the country, the true capital of the south (sorry Dallas, sorry Atlanta, sorrynotsorry Austin). Its food and the thrill of living here is comparable to the other 3 great cities in the US (NYC LA CHI). When on the Northside, try Tostada Regia on Airline, try Asia Market Thai Lao on Main (not the other one), and try El Bolillo. Here are some more local greats to eat and drink: A 5 star city, and so, so unfairly maligned. Food paradise. Ethnic melting pot. This was the first time since childhood I've traveled to the far southwest reaches of my great State. I must say,I was shocked at how diverse and beautiful it is. Really glad I made one more trip out here. Best time for you to visit is Oct-Dec or March- April . Otherwise...hey it's a desert. I've been twice in the last 5 years, both times to Dallas. Although the aquarium is amazing, there is nothing to do if 6 flags isn't open yet. The Kennedy site is really just stand and look unless you want to pay exorbitant prices to go to the top of the book depository. The hotel the second time was absolutely terrible and although I reached out to their corporate office, nothing came of it. We checked in within a few days of their terrible grid going down and even received messages from the hotel advising we may not have a room because of all of the displaced persons. I even got a toll bill from the Northwest parkway I think but can't remember even seeing the signs. $25 for 10 miles of highway is more expensive than 10 miles on the NJ Parkway and that's saying something. Been to the Cadillac Ranch twice and The Big Texan. The Big Texan in March wasn't following covid protocol. Amarillo is mostly dumpy. I hear the gulf coast has oil sheen because of the offshore drilling. I have included a few pictures as proof that I was in fact in Texas earlier this year. I can provide more if necessary. I grabbed my number and got myself situated expecting to be there intill closed like I have before at the Harris County location in Baytown. As soon as I closed my eyes, I herd my number get called. I jumped up grabbing my phone thinking it was already 3pm but nope, 1:20 and they were waiting for me. Within 5 minutes at the window with the friendly attendant and $75ish bucks later, I was legal again! If you don't want to renew your registration at the tax office, just don't be like me and pay your tolls so that you can either register online or at HEB.

I always love coming zooming under this bridge at high rates of speed, to glance up and see what new inspirational message it has. Usually, it says, "Be Someone" but not always. If you want to be the 'someone' who changes the message, then get up there and paint something for yourself! I've seen other messages, like "Vote or Die." I'm pretty sure it's illegal to go paint it, but that's what makes it so fun. Unfortunately, I've never had a message that I've needed to convey on a highway like this, so I've never gotten a chance to paint it. This overpass is so iconic, that people take photos of it, or even get it tattooed across their chests to show their Houston pride.
