I have watched Vortex being built so tonight I thought I'd give it a try. I liked the decor with huge screen TVs. Unfortunately the food was a real disappointment. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich but instead of Swiss cheese as stated on the menu, they put American cheese on it. It was horrible. My dinner partner ordered the lamb chops rare and they were barely pink in the center and they forgot to bring her salad out. The whole experience was disappointing. read more

I removed my last review because it was posted before the altercation was taken care of by the owner. He was sweet and genuine and gave us a $40 gift card to come back and try them again. Well tonight was the night and the service still sucked. Waited 15 minutes after we were seated to finally get a waitress to take our drink order and get us menus. She was sweet but then disappeared for the rest of the night. Waited another 20 minutes till a waiter came over and checked on us and finally took our entree order. He said he'd bring us more silverware and never did until another waiter checked on us and then he brought us silverware. After that everything was good and both the waiters were sweet in the end especially one of them. I'd still say the service here is like Russian roulette, you don't know what kind of service you'll get. read more

I have never had such bad service that I felt the need to leave a review to warn other people, but here it is. We (2 adults) walked in at about 4 on a Saturday. There was a decent crowd but not overly busy. We waited 5 minutes without anyone noticing us to be seated. Once seated, we knew we wanted to order crawfish and beer. Placed the order, got the beer in a reasonable amount of time. About a half hour later our server finally returned and asked if we hadn't gotten our food yet. We had not, so he went and grabbed our now cold crawfish that had been sitting for probably 20 minutes. If it had been hot I'd probably would've been pretty good, but $55 for cold crawfish and beer was not worth it. We ordered a second beer to go with our cold food - since it was the first time we had seen the waiter again- and he proceeded to wait on other tables and apparently forget about us. We went to the bar and got the beer ourselves. I left a tip against my better judgment - thinking that the manager who had been too busy to seat us might ask how things were. However, upon leaving he was again too busy chatting with people. No asking how it was, so please come again, nothing. So basically, we were ignored from the moment we walked in to the moment we left, having to serve ourselves beer and served cold crawfish. I had high hopes for this place, but we will not ever be back. If they don't change their service they won't be in business very long. read more

Bartenders have zero personality. Decor is midtown industrial sports bar meets old restaurant warehouse. Definitely a place with an identity crisis. My husband and I decided to try Vortex Sunday afternoon. Typically, we don't try new places with less than 4 stars but for some reason we went against our rule and OH Boy do we regret it !! Upon walking in there were several employees standing around at the entrance who did not greet us. We were sat at a sticky table which was odd because there were only 4 other guest dining. We proceeded to review the menu and reluctantly placed an order of wings, tornado potato and monte cristo. Food was not great and service could use a lot of improvement. Went on a whim, noticed that they had an open sign. I am not going to lie i kind of internet stalked them a bit before they opened and I will say i was quite pleased. It was a very nice open space with plenty of room for large parties. The menu was pretty accommodating with plenty of great choices. I did not take a pic of my actual meal but remembered to get drink and dessert pics! The food was good and Sabrina gave us great service. They had a Dj but even before the DJ they were playing a great mix of music overhead. This was a fun place with really good drinks! I would give this place 5 star had it not been for our services. Atmosphere awesome! Crawfish was good and worth 3.99 lb!! Beer iced cold always a plus! Service was awful I had to go get my own beer from the bar once she finally came and ask for refills. When we asked for the check she cleared the table including my half beer and water! Vortex is a great night spot, beautiful decor. It really is nice. Spacious and very stylish. The menu is huge and they have a great selection. Be prepared for the prices though. We went today for brunch and got a bloody mary, an appetizer sampler, the mushrooms, and the tornado potato. It was a bit more than we wanted to pay. We were going to get the cluster bucket and its priced "at market price" apparently that is $80. To be honest $80 isnt a bad price. it's 3 lbs of crab and shrimp with potatoes and corn. It's not a bad price but its also not what we expected to pay in Katy. In Midtown or Downtown or Kemah, sure, but Katy? We ended up closing our ticket with appetizers and the one drink. OVER ALL: On the upside, the service is absolutely and the staff are wonderful and so sweet. The food is tasty. The manager and even bar tender were checking on tables and the ladies and gentlemen running the food and bussing tables are efficient and seem to work very well together. The decor is fun and very trendy. On the downside: The prices are a bit high for this area and were a bit of a turn off. Not saying Katy doesnt have some great and very classy restaurants, but expect to pay Midtown or Downtown prices for the food here especially the seafood. read more

If you're going to visit here, do it late. DO NOT go before 6pm, the morning servers are absolutely horrible. I've gone twice now in the early afternoon and was given the same server both times. The first time she seemed scared so we chalked it up to her possibly being new, came back 2 weeks later and she had gotten even worse. Never came back to the table but to bring food, a different server refilled our drinks. And when we asked for the check NO ONE was allowed to get it for us but our server and it took her 15 minutes, we left her cash and left. Didn't even bother to wait for her. Keep in mind the place was basically empty, there is literally no excuse for it. The server that refused to get us our check said our server was with a 9 top, okay? And the other hour we were there? She had NO other tables. This used to be our spot, and now, we'll never be back. Tired of mediocre service and bad attitudes. read more

Really wanted to like this place as its close to my home and there are not many bar/clubs in Katy. I was a bit hesitant going after reading a number of bad reviews but figured why not just give it a shot. Boy was that a mistake. All the bad/negative reviews are 100% true. Service is horrible. It is as if they never trained their staff and hired people who never worked as servers before. We waited 30 mins to be seated only to see 9 open tables when we got it. Waited 20 min to be greeted by our waitress. Another 25 mins to get water. 20 more mins to take our order. Then the big WAIT 45 mins for our food. Honestly, we would have just left but we were already there and hungry. During our wait we watched as 2 separate groups yelled at staff for the same exact reasons. We did not yell at the staff but I can understand the frustration. What makes it even worse is that the place was only about half packed and plenty of servers on the floor. Was not even that busy. This place will def be out of business soon if they do not get new management or staff training. Its sad as they have the potential to be a great spot in Katy. Katy Vibes, if you read this, why not listen to what your customers are saying? Train your staff if you want to last and hire new people who know what they are doing. Its clearly a problem with your restaurant. Does your owner really want to lose their investment in this place do to poor service? read more

Today, my partner, daughter and myself tried vortex for the first time. I was really excited! So here's our experience: We walked in the door and there was a please wait to be seated sign but no greeter. We waited until someone finally came out. The lady came out with a gentleman and they were bickering back in forth about something right in front of us. We were seated. Then we proceeded to wait a good 15 minutes before pulling an employee to the side and asked who was going to be our waiter. Waiter comes over and is very pleasant and took our order. We placed an order for an appetizer, crawfish, and a kids meal. We waited a while to get our food. Even the appetizer. The tables around us had issues with service as well. We could tell so we started asking them about their experience. Same thing. The food was good, however, they could work on their service. Oh, and we ordered chocolate flan and the waiter said, aaahhh that's a good one. Only to come back out and say they were out. They've been open 2 1/2 weeks. I think they may have underestimated the business they would get. The atmosphere is awesome but again, the service. Let's start off with the food. We ordered chips and queso and that was average. I didnt expect that much since we weren't at a mexican restaurant. They advertise the wings so I tried them with the Korean bbq sauce but when they came out they hardly had any sauce on them!!!! When you pick up a wing with sauce you expect to have sauce residue on your hands but that was a no go. The drinks were Awful!!!!! Worst drinks in america! If I gave stars for the drinks it would be negative. The pina coloda wasn't blended but full chunks of ice! I've never had a colada on the rocks and the taste wasnt good. Didn't drink it so I ordered a pain killer. Omg! That also was a waste of money! And they advertise it too!!!!!!! Next we ordered a lemon drop shot. How hard is that??? It comes out and it tasted like vodka. No sugar on the rim and barely tasted lemony. I let everyone else at the table -8 of us- take a sip and everyone's reaction was the same. Digusting!!!!!! The food is terrible. Drinks were made wrong initially but fixed. Service was good. But food was below standards without flavor. How do you have a curried mahi with out curry or spices or flavor then serve it with corn and black beans? Really. When I told the manager it didnt have any kind of curry flavor he told me they dont have a curried mahi. Dude its blasted across your projector every 2 minutes. I ate a ceasar salad and queso. Ordered the calamari which was just flavorless breading couldnt even tell there was squid because there was so much batter. Then they tell me there signature dish is supposed to be plated with hard dried out waxy cheese and a giant skewer through the middle i cant even cut or remove. This place is a joke and they dont take criticism well. First time here. Only time here. If you like to eat under seasoned food and low quality restaurants you might like this place. Never going back what a complete waste. Had to go get food after even eating. My friends Monte Cristo wasnt bad but how do you screw up a fried ham and cheese sandwich right. My husband and I needed a night out and decided to go to Katy Vibes since it's close by. I'd been a few times before and had told my husband how nice it was. The food and drinks are always good when I've gone. We got there about 10 minutes to 7 on a Saturday night. We ordered our food, it came out fast and hot, food was good, drinks were good as usual. We're parents and hadn't gotten out much so we were just enjoying the vibe after we finished our meal. About 5 minutes before 8 the waitress comes by and says, "I'm sorry but there is a cover charge at 8 my manager says you'll have to pay if you stay here." In all my years of dining out, partying, clubbing, etc I have never been told to pay a cover charge when I've already been seated AND completely finished my meal. Same goes for my husband. Every establishment we've been to, if there is a cover charge, as long as you get there before the time (which was 8) you're good. Needless to say, this turned my husband completely off, we asked for our check and left. read more

I was feeling adventurous and curious so my family and I pulled in Katy Vibes to eat. The service was wonderful and their signature bar drinks are very tasty. I had the Bikini martini! We ordered the club sandwich, Mac and cheese burger and chicken fried steak. All the dishes were very delicious. The breading stayed on every bite of chicken fried steak. The Mac and cheese burger is genius all proportioned perfectly! The club sandwich would have feed me for two days. The house fries could be the main course on the plate as far as how tasty they are with perfect texture. I wish I'd of had room for dessert. Not only do they have gourmet desserts but there are many to choose from. We left so impressed and will definitely be returning. They have a screen that features all their events, from comedy shows to all kinds of live bands. I expect this place to be packed during football season with all the huge screens. My girlfriend and I have been here a few times and have a good time. But this past weekend we stopped in and we said hello to the girl in the front and she said hello and we found our way to the bar. My girlfriend stops in at the ladies room and "Sam" one of the owners walks over and tells me there's a cover charge. I explained to him that no one told us that, but i'm happy to go back and pay as soon as my girlfriend comes back from the ladies room. He then grabbed my arm, pulled me off the bar stool and walked me back to the front just to pay the $10 cover charge. I have NEVER been accosted this way at any bar in Houston. First of all, there was no sign in the front stating there was a cover charge where the girl was sitting. Secondly, when I waved at the girl and said hello, she did not say there was a cover charge. Again, I was happy to go back and pay but I'm absolutely appalled that he felt it necessary to put his hands on me and drag me back to the front. Even the girl in the front explained that she saw my girlfriend go the restroom but he still felt it necessary to assault me. Absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing. He should never be allowed to interact with people. He's going to get that place sued and shut down. read more
