Was visiting Corpus and found this restaurant online and decided to give it a try and I'm so glad we did. The food and service were both great. We came in about an hour before closing so the restaurant was nearly empty, but our waiter served us graciously and didn't miss a beat on amazing service. We had the calmari, kats meow (shrimp appetizer), and a steak with Mac n cheese and potatoes. All were amazing. I also had a caesar salad that paired well with the shrimp accompaniment that we ordered with the steak. Only watch out, is it was a little dark in the restaurant to me, but nothing unbearable. I would definitely recommend and whenever I'm back in Corpus I will return. read more

Here's my Clint Eastwood review, The Good, The Bad, and The Disappointing. The Good Location, not on SPID and all that congestion. Located on Spohn right off of S Staples, really nice location. This place is huge, with a giant bar, where we like to sit and dine, with an adjacent raw/Sushi bar, very nice. The bar offers a huge selection of adult beverage makings. We were celebrating our 39th anniversary, so a restaurant of this caliber is certainly appropriate. The drinks, a Tanqueray Martini with an Orange twist for her and a Manhattan straight up with four roses bourbon for me, were perfectly sized and delicious. The restaurant boasts a large freestanding humidor with a nice selection of cigars. I also noticed a wall of personal humidor lockers for customers to keep their personal cigars available. This all suggested a cigar room, but I never saw it. The wait staff, were mostly attentive. Instead of depending on your bartenders to deliver food, I'm more accustomed to restaurants, of this caliber, to have a dedicated wait staff for bar dining patrons. Especially considering they have a large number of high top tables for dining in the bar. Friday nights, like when we were there, get pretty hectic for the bartenders. For our second drink the bartender made mistakes on both our drinks, my wife's Martini came with Olives,(I liked them) instead of the twist of orange. My Manhattan came with her twist of orange instead of the usual Luxardo cherry. Perhaps if the bartenders just bartended they wouldn't make simple mistakes. ‍ . They were very nice and brought me a shot glass with several Luxardo cherries in it. Thank you Ladies! The food. We started with appetizers. My wife got their escargot that were traditionally prepared in an escargot serving dish rich with butter, garlic and a hint of citrus. They were delicious, albeit small. My wife was happy with them. I got their Crispy Calamari Atop Stir Fried Carrots, Green Onions & Cashews with a Kung Pao Sauce. This dish, for us, was the hit of the night. The calamari, instead of the rings so commonly served, were calamari strips. They were perfectly fried and the combination of the calamari, the vegetables and that kung pao sauce was absolutely mouth watering. If you like calamari I highly recommend this dish. You won't be disappointed. Entrees. My wife got their escargot Greek style rack of Lamb with spinach. The Lamb was perfectly seasoned and served medium-rare. It was absolutely delicious. If you like Lamb this is a great dish, oh and the chops were huge! The Bad. Nothing to see here. The Disappointing. I ordered the USDA Prime Ribeye with Citrus-Braised Baby Carrots & Whipped Potatoes and a Dijon Herbal Butter. I order my steaks cooked medium-rare "Pittsburgh style". First, everyone knows what a ribeye steak looks like, it has that very distinctive shape, you can't miss it. If what they served me was a ribeye, then I'm the true Bad Bunny! When the entrees were delivered they didn't give us steak knives, we had to ask for them. Now maybe they were that confident in the tenderness of the meat that they didn't feel we needed steak knives. Or maybe, just maybe, they should be tending bar instead of delivering food. Second the menu clearly states USDA Prime Ribeye. I know what that is, and what was served me wasn't that. As I stated I order my steaks "Pittsburg style". What that means is the steak is first cooked to an internal temperature that is 5 to 10° short of medium-rare. The steak is then immersed in either melted butter or tallow and then immediately thrown on a very hot grill. This causes the grill to engulf the steak in flames charring the outside of the steak and raising the internal temperature to medium-rare. I do it all the time on my backyard grill. While my steak did have some charring, it wasn't Pittsburg style. Conclusions. Would we go back? Absolutely if for nothing else to get that crispy calamari. Would I order the steak again? Not without getting some assurances that I get a Rib Eye and they know how to cook it Pittsburg style. I guess, in the end, this has all the potential to be a high-end steakhouse, for our visit I felt they didn't meet that expectation. read more

We had dinner reservations for my birthday on 5/23. We were sat outside in their smoking area where we waited nearly 20 minutes, and nobody came to bring us menus or take a drink order. We called the restaurant as we were leaving and were told the manager was "working behind the bar". This place is more like a nightclub and NOT the "high end" steak house they say they are. A local friend highly recommended this place. Was visiting from out of town and needed to get dinner before heading back on the road. To be clear - when I looked up restaurant I thought we were going to Katz21 (not the bar 21 attached.) Regardless...it is affiliated and should have some level of continuity. Perhaps we just caught them on a bad day....but had a very unpleasant experience. For reference, we were one of the first and only tables on a weekday. Service : Was extremely slow, had to ask twice for everything including ketchup, refill, bill etc. Menu: The bar menu was extremely limited and as a pescatarian there were no options. The bar is attached to the main dining & kitchen and asked if they could do a grilled cheese. The answer was a hard no. In hindsight I should have ordered 'To-Go' from main restaurant and brought to bar..or at least given that option. My friend ordered a caesar salad (not on bar menu) which was mediocre at best. Quality: Went ahead and ordered carb bar food...nothing really stood out. The apps at a Chilis offer more pizzazz. The condiment to food ratio was silly....it took forever to get a second ketchup. The waitress seemed confused on whether they stocked Coke or Pepsi as she kept correcting our request. I don't have a preference - but what we got the first time vs. the refill was questionable... After all that, I blame myself for trying to order a cappuccino for the road. We were told they needed to "turn-on" the machine and it would be a "minute." After a very long wait...I was given a large styrofoam cup with a straw. I don't know what I was given....and don't want to know... Final Thoughts : Nothing about this place was at the level. If you're wondering which fine-dining restaurant in Corpus Christi, look no further. My wife and I came to Corpus on vacation, which coincidentally was just three days before our 20th anniversary. Reservations were easy, and we were seated right away when we arrived. Our waiter, Wilfrid, was amazing. Not only did he take time to explain everything on the menu - more thoroughly than a menu ever could - but he went out of his way to ensure we didn't feel rushed while still taking excellent care of us. We ordered the Katz Meow appetizer. I'm generally not big on seafood, but if it all tasted like this I'd never eat anything else. My wife got a surf and turf special - ribeye with crab-stuffed shrimp - and it was amazing. We know steaks and we know steakhouses, and this was top-notch. I had another special - ossobuco. The veal was so tender I could cut it with a fork, and the accompanying risotto was literally the best I've ever had. Tonight was the worst food I have ever had at your restaurant. The food was delivered cold to the table. I was so embarrassed because tonight was supposed to be a special occasion for us. My wife's Filet was not cooked enough. It was too rare. Returned loaded in salt and burnt for medium well ordered steak. My Prime Rib did not have Aujuis like the menu stated. It had brown gravy on it. I sent it back as it was cold (not even warm) plus it was not end cut I had ordered and waitress said I'd get. When I showed the waitress that my meal was not even hot I stuck my finger in the middle of the mashed potatoes to show her. It was not even hot. Tonight's meal was a total disappointment and an absolute waste of time and this is the last and final time I will ever get a bad meal from Katz 21. The service from the waitress was great and she was most apologetic, but the kitchen had absolutely no idea what they were doing for an expensive fine dining restaurant of this nature I would offer you don't waste your time and your money to eat at this place. I am thrilled to review this amazing eatery. It's so awesome to have another Corpus restaurant that takes reservations and is on Open Table. We went for the charcuterie and the Iberico pork and this restaurant did not disappoint! The food is absolutely incredible. Like soooooo good. Like outstanding. Like I wish they were in Austin so I could eat it all the time. SO. DARN. GOOD. It is reasonably priced, cooked to perfection, and is just the perfect portion sizes. The au gratin potatoes were positively sinful and the seafood was all fresh and well prepared. Our service was exceptional and the dining room is gorgeous. First off I don't even know where to start this place is phenomenal. From the staff at the front of the house till the very end of the experience. Definitely worth a bang for your buck. The restaurant manager/owner is exceptional he definitely loves his business and his wine. We were visiting Corpus Christi for a convention. And it was my fiancé's birthday so I decided to take him to a nice restaurant. When we arrived everyone was so nice. This place is so beautiful. There are two areas, one where there is a bar and outdoor enclosed patio with live music in another area that's like a dining hall really beautiful and more romantic and quiet. Also, there is a huge selection of wines with large glass to see in while looking at their selection of wines the cellar is so unique. I noticed the owner using a ladder to move back and forth. He goes out of his way to make sure his customers get the wine that they love and does very well. We also had a really beautiful sweet lady, she reminded me of my mother. As she had told us she had just started working there about three days ago and if she could listen in when the manager was explaining the wines and etc. of course we said yes. We ordered the lobster bisque soup and it was so delicious and then for our main entrée we had the ribeye with the creamy potatoes and sweet carrot. It was some of the best food I had had in a long time. Our waitress went over and beyond. She made this experience so amazing and I wish I remembered her name but I will never forget her face and our experience with her that night and the owner. They made it very unique warm, and loving. They really do take their business serious and want to please their customers. If I ever go back to Corpus Christi and I am able to spend some extra money I definitely will stop in again. Everything from the service to the food was impeccable! Our server was helpful with the menu, and gave us recommendations for drinks. He suggested the Katz Meow Appetizer to start, so listened and ordered that to share. It was really good, and a very light starter so I know I can still enjoy my main. We also shared a cup of Lobster Bisque, and it was so good! It was comforting and creamy. My husband got the bone in ribeye, and I got the prime rib. To share, we got the au gratin potatoes. To my surprise, I didn't know that our entrees came with a side of mashed potatoes, I will say I can just come here for the mashed potatoes! It was perfectly creamy just how I like it. May husband devoured his ribeye, he really enjoyed it a lot. My prime rib was good too! I had to take most of it home because it was huge. I have been driving by this place for a year now and some friends asked us if wanted to go celebrate her birthday. So we go with reservations and arrive timely. The ambiance was great , service and wine were very good. That's where is stops as the food was not good. We started with lobster bisque and it was not good. The bisque smelled like the lobster was definitely not very fresh. We then we proceeded with a couple of ribeyes and filet. The ribeye were like leather trying to cut them ( cooked medium rare) sawing was involved with steak. The whipped potatoes tasted like instant box potatoes. We added Brussels sprouts which was undercooked and had lots sugar added . The risotto was not good either. This was a one and done as the quality of food was terrible for an upscale restaurant. Our server Jacob was very helpful. Unfortunately every wine we requested was not in stock. There was no manager available to speak with ( on vacation or off for the night) so Jacob tried to help as best he could. The food took forever to arrive, so disappointing. The steak was very tasty and tender and the sides were good. Last time we were there was good, maybe it was an off night. The poor customer service and lack of service recovery ensured that the reservation we made to celebrate a special occasion was ruined. We booked a table for 3 for Saturday 7/16/2022 at 7:30pm. We arrived 10 minutes early and were seated within 5 minutes. We ordered 2 waters and 1 tea while we looked at the cocktail menu. 10 minutes later we placed a drink order for 1 martini. We also placed our appetizer order at that time, 1 charcuterie board. 15 minute wait for the martini, and then an additional 15 minutes for the appetizer. Once the appetizer was delivered the gentleman that brought it attempted to explain what the items were, however he was incorrect for a majority of them. (A lot of items are on the charcuterie board so that was almost understandable) In that time the table sat right before us received their salads, and the tables around us received both food and service while we never saw the person that was waiting on us. The table sat before us, also received their entrees and at 45 minutes of waiting we had not seen our waitress therefore had not placed our food order. A table was sat near us and within 5 minutes had salads. 8:39pm our waitress comes by and says "oh looks like you enjoyed the appetizer". I pointed out that we had now been waiting for an hour to place our order and it was all we had. Her expression indicated her surprise and seemed to prompt her to remember that she had ignored us. I asked for our bill as the wait was beyond ridiculous and that took another 10 minutes. I was told when bill arrived that "management took off your drinks" and I stated that was not how I wanted to proceed. I wanted the actual bill and I wanted to pay for it. She was gone another 5-7 minutes and returned with my bill. 1. We were a party of 3 and the tableware for 4th seat was never removed 2. We informed the staff that we would not be having wine and the additional glasses were never removed 3. In the hour that we waited NO refills were ever offered, not that any staff person was available to offer them. 4. No management came to our table to speak with us, yet a man in a sport coat was speaking to tables throughout the night. I have had managers come to speak with me at establishments that are not considered fine dining when I order a meal and don't like it. This situation that was clearly not my fault was ignored. If you are going to market the restaurant as an upscale steakhouse this should be evident from the moment that a guest walks through the door. I do believe better training would be necessary for the waitress as time management seemed to get away from her. Service recovery is very important in businesses that rely on customers and I feel that the manager that night and the waitress could benefit from a refresher in that. We displayed an overabundance of patience in waiting for an hour. I kept in mind that staffing levels are still low. I kept in mind that everyone has an off night. However, it was hard to look past the fact that an occasion was being ruined when all I wanted to do was celebrate. Our table looked like this for 30 minutes. This was not a "packed house" situation. It looked as if they'd run out but we're going to get the order out regardless. They could have been honest and stated the shortage and given another option or offered a discount on it. $30 buys 2 of these plates with sausage that is generous. I should've read the reviews before I made a reservation on OpenTable. We arrived and the young ladies in front told us there would be a five minute wait for our party of 5. They knew we were a party of five because that's what the reservation requested. After a 10 minute wait I inquired when our table would be ready and was told they couldn't find our reservation. No apology, no real attempt to accommodate us. When I showed them the confirmation from OpenTable, they had no reaction. We should have left right then, but we did not. We were finally seated and had the worst service ever. It took 10 minutes to get water. Our waiter kept walking by time and time again after telling us he would be right with us, we were wondering if he was ever coming back. On a Saturday night they were not really all that busy and I'm amazed that they are still in business with such poor customer service. The food is overpriced for that kind of terrible service . This was the smallest crab cake I have ever ordered in my 45 years of life. Don't get me wrong the flavor was amazing but nit worth the price tag. The salad was ok. Not great, not bad, but ok. Let's move on to the soup. Katz is known for their lobster bisque. They decided to substitute it with an inferior shrimp bisque. 24 hours later I'm still trying to understand why. The shrimp bisque was mediocre. Both my daughter and wife passed on it after one taste. As for the entree, we all ordered the filet and lobster tail combo. This was the best part of the meal. The filet was cooked to perfection. The lobster tail was perfect. Loving on to the dessert. We had it packed to go. We did not eat it at the restaurant. After arriving home the dessert was horrific. Something you would get from 2 day old HEB dessert. I forgot to state we only had two options. Key lime pie and chocolate cake. Which honestly neither is appealing to me. Some of the best desserts Katz is known for they neglected to put on the menu. I cannot assume anything so i will leave my opinion out on why they would make that decision. I understand this review may seem negative. But I would like everyone to know this is a wonderful restaurant. Please do not take this review as a judgement. I have had wonderful meals and memories at this restaurant. They just happened to miss the point on this last occasion. Once again I would like to state the service was impeccable. By far A+. They have some of the greatest staff I have ever encountered. But for me this last occasion the food was unacceptable for the price we paid.
