The hostesses need to be replaced. They make fun of people ignore you and laugh when you've waited 1+ hours for a table. The only good workers in here are the bartenders and Troy. So glad I chose to come here. They were pretty busy and thankfully the bar was open seating. Happy Hour went until 7 with half off appetizers. 4.5 from my mom and I! We got the fried mushrooms appetizer and it was delicious! The have complimentary bread and butter upon arrival as well. My mom got the 8 oz chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes and the only complaint she had was that it was too big! Lol I got the Steak sandwich which was a big entree as well and it was so good as well. Overall the food is amazing and they have daily lunch specials which we will be back for!! I'm not sure if this is a sister to the infamous Niko's, but just by looking at the menu it seems like it's pretty similar like the Cordon Blue Poppers which is one of our favorites from Niko's. Anyways, we just wanted to try this place out, but honestly... we like Niko's more. Not because it's literally down the street from our home, but they have Prime Rib and Ol' Steakhouse does not. We shared the Potato Skins as an appetizer, and its really nothing too special. My husband got the Black & Blue Ribeye which he enjoyed, and I got the Ol Ribeye and that was okay. I've never been to this restaurant and my sister suggested we try it, so we headed on over. We were immediately sat and attended to by Viola. She was super friendly and delivered excellent customer service, so we felt right at home. The restaurant certainly has an old timey charm and character to it that conjures nonexistent memories of a distant time long past that you can only see in the movies, but it was much appreciated. I looked at the menu and wanted to try their salmon. Coincidentally, I overheard the server attending to the table next to us say to his patrons that they were out of salmon. I asked Viola and she confirmed it. Bummer. I then asked if I could order the chicken wings without the buffalo sauce, because I'm not a fan of the typical buffalo wing vinegar-flavor profile, but alas she said she could not accommodate that request. Second bummer. We ordered the southwest egg rolls instead. I did not eat it because I follow a ketovore diet and delicious, processed carbohydrates are a no-no for me, so I watched in envy as my sister happily enjoyed them. I ordered the Ahi Tuna with a Caesar salad and my sister ordered the Old Steakhouse Burger with thick cut steak fries. Initially the tuna portion appeared very small, but looks are deceiving. It filled me to my stomach's content. The side of asparagus was rather bland despite it being drizzled in some type of oil or butter. I could not identify what it was. I wanted to like Ol'Steakhouse more than I did, and of my family, I was the only one who had a frustrating experience. The hostesses were efficient but brusque, basically asking how many, name, and then ordering the group to sit in the waiting area. When it came to ordering, I haven idea what my server's name was because he never told us, but he was a slim guy with curly hair. I ordered a margarita that he never put in and thus I never received. I ordered the 8 oz filet, which I was really looking forward to because I love a good filet. I asked for it medium. I'm one of those people who grew up eating all meat well done because I had a parent who couldn't cook. I've progressed to eating my meat medium after marrying a Texan. Occasionally, if my steak is slightly under done and is closer to medium-rare than medium, I'll sometimes eat it. However, I can NOT eat a rare steak. My filet, instead of medium, was as rare as intelligence in the White House these days. It was abysmal. Well, when our server-without-a-name came and asked how things were, I had just cut off a little piece of my filet that was hanging on by the smallest connection, and was, in fact, cooked decently. After that, we didn't see our server again for quite some time. Now, I've sent steaks back in the past, and they have always come back dried out, so my wonderful hubs offered to trade his t-bone, which was cooked to a degree I'd eat, with my vary, vary RARE filet. Though I'm sure the t-bone was good, which he says it was and my sons' liked their taste of it, to me, it tasted like supreme disappointment and sadness. I did not enjoy my dinner (or his dinner for that matter). Maybe we'll visit again the next time we visit Corpus Christi, but I'm not certain. Maybe my family will sway me to give them another shot. Wanted a good steak and saw the reviews so we had to see if they were as good as they think. Well, they didn't disappoint. We had a 45 minute wait on a Saturday night at 6 pm but we were not starving so we waited. The restaurant smelled heavenly and it was really cozy but the tables were spaced far enough that we could have a conversation. Noticed a lot of people were there for celebrations. Cody was our server and he was excellent. He helped us figure out what we wanted and his suggestions didn't disappoint. We started with salads and warm bread. I had their house dressing and it was good! It's a garlic ranch dressing. I was really pleased. Next we split the the Stuffed Mushrooms and they were delicious! It's been so long since we had them and these hit the spot! Our main course was the bone in ribeye and it was so tender we didn't need knives! We added green beans which had onion and tomato in them. I was starving and after working all day I googled steak places that were on the way to my hotel downtown. This place was first on the list and had good reviews so I decided to try it out. I was not disappointed. I went right after 5. Maybe 5:30ish. I sat at the bar and the two bartenders were attentive and very sweet. I ordered a double Johnny black with my ribeye, asparagus and side Caesar salad. I loved everything. My steak was perfect and my salad was so fresh and crispy!! I'm was really surprised because everytime I've come into Corpus for work I've had the worst luck with steaks. Not this place! I will definitely be coming back. It's a small place, and parking is a little limited, but worth it. Side note: the music they were playing that day was awesome too! We stop going there because it seemed our business was not appreciated. Our orders were increasingly coming out wrong and we were receiving bad attitudes from the staff. We are black people but I'm not saying that was a factor. The male waiter name Cody is exceptional! If I could get him every time, I'd be there weekly. The majority of the female waitresses and barmaids are not very friendly and get my order wrong most times so, we just gave up. I've noticed the steaks have gotten a lot smaller than when we first went there last year but expected with this economy. Last time we went I asked the waitress for two ribeyes, medium for my wife and medium rare for myself. She brought back a medium well for me and said that's what she heard. I could only conclude that she wasn't listening. I get the felling that they couldn't care less because they are so busy on the weekends. The food is tasty tho. They probably won't miss us anyway. Came here for lunch with coworkers and first thought was this place stinks. It has a smell of old mop. Normally, you get used to a smell and it fades but I couldn't get this smell out of my head my entire lunch. Our server was new, 3rd day on the job, and she did fine. A lovely local family style steakhouse. Perfect steak and solid sides. Great service which can be so hard to come by these days. The cucumber martini is perfection! The apps were spot on- we loved the potato skins and stuffed mushrooms, as well as the NY cheesecake and crème brûlée.
