Little can be done to make the preparation and actual event more palatable, but at least it can be simplified and made more humane with understanding of the emotional aspects of the test, and the physical challenges associated with drinking copious amounts of vile tasting fluids, a mandatory clear liquid diet for 36 hours before the operation, and the totally unpleasant process of emptying the lower gastrointestinal tract. Ugh! Gastroenterology Group at St. Mary Medical Center does it as well as possible. They invite you to their office weeks in advance to review the process in detail. Many pages of easy to understand instructions are provided. They record insurance information, and even offer samples of the preparation meds if the patient lacks coverage for this cost. On the designated day, when the effect of starvation and voiding is at max effect, their staff is courteous and compassionate in getting the patient ready for general anesthesia and the procedure itself. Everyone was skilled, patient and trained in low key interaction. From getting into those damn surgical gowns, to setting the intravenous lines in the arm, to nestling the pillow comfortably under the head/neck as you fall asleep, to the gentle wake up back in your personal space with juice and crackers, the flow is smooth and relaxed. "Dr. Lim was so cool, I sort of wish we were friends (instead of him being just some guy who stared up into my abyss). & there's none of the conversational awkwardness you get from most doctors (who tend to be bad at speaking to actual people)". When you have the full examination under anesthesia, Dr. Lim's office will also mail you a stack of color photo print outs of your insides with accompanying notes so you don't have to rely on vague descriptions of what is/ isn't abnormal up in there. I brought those to the specialist he referred me to; that person said it was helpful to have clear color photos for a change. After the surgery I wound up needing, that other specialist said my whole family should also get checked, so I convinced my sister to see Dr. Lim. She loved the guy, everything about the system & the procedure they have there (everything except for the actual butt examination, I assume) and she still mentions how much she liked him.

Dr. Gorcey is a devoted master endocrinologist, who always seems to be on the cutting edge of his field, using the newest medical advancements, and eliminating reasons for patients to be nervous about having the procedures done. His staff exudes the same upbeat/positive attitude that resides in him. Each staff member appears to understand the importance their own roles in the entire process and to the patient. Each step, from signing in through recovery was well coordinated and went amazingly smooth. It is so good (and not so common in my experience) to see a medical staff that is so well trained, operates in a teamwork mentality, and is happy to be doing what they are doing. All of this (and the new same day 2-hour prep!) made for another very positive experience for me as a patient.

She told me the appointment was "at the same office". When I asked her again for the address, she said "the doctor's office". So, I went to the Bridgewater office only to have the receptionist *mock* me for several minutes! The appointment was at the Watchung office. The doctors do not seem much better either. When I had seen the doctor, that meeting lasted less then 5 minutes. That was it. He did not ask many questions. The doctors and the staff are a good fit: uncaring and/or incompetent.

It was really hard to have to look for someone that was a great dr with a really great bedside manner! And so I talked to my old dr and he gave me the recommendation for dr Unger! Thank god I got to him because I wound up in the hospital in December for 12 days! Dr Unger was great! Very concerned and it really made me feel good I felt as though I could really move on without my dr of 32 years!! I still have issue with my stomach but I know whenever I need to see dr Unger they will get to me in ASAP and everyone is very helpful at the front desk!!! I have left drs due to the staff but whoever does the hiring and the training has done a great job!! I would and do recommend him to people I know looking for a great Gastroenterologist's!!!!
