I love this place! I came to PA on vacation and this place is just tucked away in the middle of nowhere. The parking lot is large so parking is not a problem. Once you walk in, the ice cream window is on the left and the dining menu is on the wall written in a large font. You walk through the door and it's a cafeteria style restaurant. I ordered the BBQ chicken (white meat), stuffing, and corn. It also includes with a salad bar. This meal was about 7 to 8 dollars, that's a great deal! The miniature golf course is an 18 hole course on the side of the restaurant. The course is ordinary, nothing special. The one thing that did bother me was the smell of manure in the air. I guess that just comes with the charm of being next to a working farm :) The lake was really pretty, it had 2 swans swimming around and beautiful trees in the background across the lake. Went for a day at Hershey Park and decided to get some real food on my way home. Stopped in at Kauffman's and the food was very good. Got a bacon cheese burger and fries. I actually watched her grill it up and it took no time at all. Pie is weak. Got 2 pieces of pie and they were both not good. Lemon sponge had the distinct taste of fridge so it was sitting for a while and did not have flavor. The chocolate moose has wayyyyy to much gelatin and was like jello. Also the "Whipped Cream" was cool whip. I would skip the pies and get the ice cream. At least 10 people has cones of all types of ice cream and seemed to be loving it. I can see that this place gets really busy during peak times but when I went early in the season it was very chill and not busy. read more

We were staying up this way for a pool tournament and didn't wanna go to a fast food place and this was the closest diner that was open. The food was good (especially the chicken corn soup) but I ended up going in and out of the bathroom for 3 days straight afterwards. Can I say just wow and double wow. This place is great. Came up this way to go baja racing and found this gem thanks to yelp. They are famous for their chicken and boy are they. It's a must but it doesn't stop with the chicken I got the baked potato, coleslaw and all you can eat salad bar all for 7.95. You would easily spend 20 for this meal in Philly. Kauffmans is not Diner food and she really ought to eat at fine dining restaurants all the time and save her Yelp reviews for businesses that are 100 dollars plus a plate. Her review wasn't fair of Kauffmans or accurate. You won't find anything like Kauffmans chicken in a grocery store or a restaurant within 500 miles of it. Let's get a couple of things in order: 1. This place serves the best chicken within a 3 state radius. People from Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Maryland and many other states drive to Kauffmans just because their chicken is that good. I've personally witnessed all of these license plates in their parking lot and on a regular basis. 2. Their chicken is rotisserie which means it is dryer on the outside and moist in the middle ( that's how a good rotisserie is cooked). Their cole slaw has a sweeter flavor to it, that I prefer over any other coleslaw I've had. Their Baked potatoes are like........a baked potato (didn't know other ppl writing reviews have such high expectations of baked potatoes). I prefer their potato filling with gravy before eating the baked potato because it is so good! 3. Their mini golf course is amazing and great exercise after having that chicken dinner. If you have room for ice cream, stop over for dessert afterwards. 4. The scenery is breathtaking. 5. The place is always clean, the restrooms and the back kitchen as well. 6. The food is good 7. Any of these people who are taking about this place in a somewhat negative way; I got news for you! I've grown up driving almost 2 hours to get to Kauffmans. After moving into the area, I still like this place. I still eat there. Out of the 25+ years I've eaten there, they were always willing to fix any mistake they made and always happy to oblige any reasonable request. So if you have a problem take it to the owner instead of trash talking them on here. 6. I am a local and have eaten up to 4 times a week here ( sometimes more , sometimes less ) , if anyone is qualified or a credible review it is mine. This was a totally random restaurant we found when driving down I-78. It's a little off the highway but DO IT! The chicken was so good I ate it all until my stomach hurt! Very disappointed. Just got the chicken dinner that I purchased for a fundraiser and I have to say I have had much better. The skin was soggy and not cooked through but the white meat was dry. The potato that came with the dinner was so over cooked it had turned a disgusting greyish color. The roll was hard and dried out. I enjoy going here. The chicken has great flavor, but I wish the sides were more substantial. The potato filling is good, but you never get that much. The location and scenery are nice. This used to be a small little restaurant in the middle of nowhere that served homemade chicken and potato filling. The chicken tastes great. But sometimes the white meat is a bit dry. That's why I gave it only 4 stars. It is also crowded every time I've been there. And it's not a '5 star' experience. The place has grown over the years to serve the masses. kauffman's just did a complete chicken dinner for about 500 to 600 employees of Kovatch mobile equipment fire truck builders .... hailf a chicken a roll apple sauce and baked potatoe , every dinner was cooked so moist and tender and one of the BEST chickens I have ever tasted , I even got a second dinner which was left over a few days later and it was taken home heated in oven and it wAS JUST AS GOOD . Upon entering this place I almost thought I was in an episode of Tales from the Crypt. Kauffman boasts the name Barbecue in it's title, but they don't have any barbecue on they're menu. Going to the actual restaurant is way better than buying one of the many chicken fundraiser dinners in the area. I came here with my mother on a Sunday evening around 6:30 and there was no line. We each got half a chicken and I got potato filling and my mother got fries with hers. Her fries were super hot and fresh, and my filling was very good. Our chickens were excellent. Perfect flavor and very juicy. I have had their chicken in the past that was on the dry side, but this time it was excellent. Cash or check only, but they do have an ATM inside in case you forget. There is a nice window area with booths overlooking a nice pond where I like to sit, and it is always very clean inside. The restrooms are also super clean. I will definitely return. read more

We eat here fairly often, because it's close to our home, which is off the beaten path, just like this family business. On Sunday afternoons in the summertime you might have to stand in line for the cafeteria service, but most of the time service is quick and efficient. I typically buy a half chicken dinner, which includes potato of choice (pa Dutch style potato filling w gravy, baked or fries), and all you can eat salad bar, dinner roll. Salad bar is basic, but it includes pa Dutch pepper cabbage, chow-chow, cole slaw, canned fruit, applesauce. Closed Monday's, Tuesdays thru Thursday they offer a "special" dish such as pa Dutch chicken pot pie, or roast duck, or haddock. It also has standard menu that includes chicken croquettes, hot chicken sandwich, hamburgers, steak sandwiches. You can pick up a variety of pies and cakes. Without a doubt people come here for the BBQ chicken, reasonable prices, and family atmosphere. The chicken is rotisserie cooked in plain sight, basted with seasoned butter. We like their ice cream stand, but it is outside the restaurant, in the large foyer. Most of the help is local high school and college students, who are eager to do a good job. One caution, this place does NOT take credit cards. Open until 10 most evenings, as long as they have not run out of chicken (happens, sometimes), you will be glad you found this place. read more

This is the reason I love Yelp! We were driving through PA and needed a place to stop for dinner. Rather than stopping for less than exciting fast food, we checked Yelp for some ideas. We never would have found this place without it - there are no signs until you're practically there. It's a beautiful little spot on a country road, not far off of the interstate. The food was absolutely delicious! We got a 1/2 chicken platter with fries (also comes with the all you can eat salad bar, which was nice and fresh) and a chicken croquettes platter (had no idea what croquettes were, but lady said they were really good, so we figured we'd give them a try), with a side of "fillIngs." Everything was absolutely amazing! The croquettes were so good, though the portion was not large (my husband and I were going to share them, while our kids shared the 1/2 chicken; however, we ended up ordering another 1/2 chicken without the sides (only about $4.50). The 1/2 chicken was moist and flavorful. We could not have been more happy with our food - we plan to return every time we pass this way! read more

Kauffmans Chicken BBQ is an amazing place!! it's so casual with such good food. Their chicken is amazing and their fries and stuffing are very good. Their sandwiches and other meals are also very good (but come on, if you are coming here, chicken is where its at!) They also do take out and have ice cream and mini golf there as well. It's a good stop on your way down to Cabelas. The only draw back is they do not take credit cards. read more
