I didn't have to wait long before I got to go inside. It took around 30 mins from the time I got in line and walked out with my tag. The DMV rep that I got to work with was Barbara. She was super nice and helpful. Everyone who worked there was nice and professional. This was one of the best experiences that I've had at a DMV. Btw: they're only letting one person per household inside, if you need someone else to go through the process. The other person has to stand at the exit door until they're needed. They're letting children go in with the adult. Mask are required.

In order to obtain a license, you must make an appointment that is easily accessible by going online to the website and scheduling for one. Once you schedule your appointment, you must bring all the required documents with you to the appointment that can be found on the website. Upon entering, you will be asked to fill out any additional paperwork and take a ticket number, and wait for your number to be called by one of the representatives. My only issue is that they make it very difficult and hard for you to obtain a license. There are so many protocols that you have to follow, and I feel it's a lack of trust in today's world. After trying to obtain a TX license for over 5 years and visiting the DPS 4 times and taking all of the online drivers courses, watching the videos, and taking the drivers test 2 times I finally did it and got it. Do I feel that everything I did with my time and money was worth it since I have been driving accident free and ticketless for the last 25 years Was worth it? No, I don't, and I'm really upset about this process because I live in a state where at least 90% of the people on the road break all the rules and absolutely deserve not to have a license but instead I'm the person who had to go through a grueling process of obtaining a license. I'm thankful my license doesn't expire for the next 10 years, and after that, I can easily renew it online for the next time.

When she finally finished, I went up to the counter. She looked like she was annoyed. I told her what I needed. I then asked if I could add another placard, and this clearly made her mad. She slapped them both down after I paid. She did not say, "Thank you", "Have a good day", or anything at all. I said, "You're welcome" and she said, "For what?" Problems: 1. system cannot locate accurate DL #s when prompted. 2. system cannot locate phone numbers when prompted. 3. system categories from which to choose are very limited. 4. user is forced to listen to all prompts before making selection then when you DO choose selection, no one ever answers and questions are never addressed. After a very long, inefficient and drawn out process in which no useful information can be obtained, the call ends due to not enough employees to answer phones. Another classic example of government lack of quality in spite of massive funding. We will be having to take a day off of work (more money on top of my tax dollars) to drive all the way down there (time and gas and wear and tear) to wait in line yet again and address why our new DLs have not yet arrived when our temporary ones expire in a couple of days. To make matters worse, if we were to get pulled over with an expired temp DL, they would probably want to issue a traffic ticket and collect on that, too! All classic reasons why there is growing frustration with governmental agencies, understandably. I want to add that the first employee who I was assigned to originally while obtaining DL did not seem to care at all about informing me of what I needed to do to obtain new DL or how to do so efficiently. Every question I had to initiate and she acted like it was not her job to help me. The second lady who was helping my husband wound up helping me when I was turned away from the first desk and was able to solve my problem just fine. But there was definitely an "I don't care about my job or you as a customer" from the first employee. Not a very welcome reception to TX from that desk or the phone system. Otherwise, TX is great so far.
