Off the hook is truly amazing. We hosted a couple of retirees for a nice dinner and didn't want steak so find this highly rated place. Very upscale and classic style lobby. Shared the crab cake and red wine mussels. Both are excellent. I went for a seasonal sea bass which was grilled to golden brown, seasoned perfectly. Stuffed shrimps got a very nice comments. Fancy feel, with white tablecloths. Bread service was delish! I got the Limoncello mussels (decent), my guy got the crab cakes (not memorable), and I forget what our friends ordered. Everyone was satisfied about the meal. It was quite pricey, which was expected when we walked in because of the ambiance. So why only 3 stars? I live in Las Vegas and my guy lives in this area (long distance). Well, we were with friends that my guy hadn't spent time with in a while, and this was my first time meeting them. Nice double date! 3 out of 4 of us got multiple drinks and we were enjoying our dinner. We got dessert too. The manager checked on us once. We probably stayed about 20ish minutes after desert while talking and finishing drinks. We got up and used the restroom, and saw the mgr in there. We heard her say that our table "finally decided to leave." Very unprofessional when you are sharing the same restroom as customers to then be talking about them. I'd say the same thing had she not been talking about us but another table. I have 20+ years in the hospitality industry and that rubbed me the wrong way. Food wasn't good enough to come back, so this is a place that relies on ambience and service, which we'd come back for if the service were great...be hospitable. Ahh man I hate to do this to one of my favorite seafood spots, but my most recent visit was unfortunately very underwhelming. Stopped in for lunch the other day. Decided to order a cup of clam chowder and the Macadamia Nut Mahi Mahi entree. The clam chowder was flavorless. I've ordered this in the past, but I don't remember it being this boring. It would have greatly benefited from some salt. Disappointing. The mahi mahi was nicely cooked. However, the macadamia nut variation I went with was fairly flavorless as well. Absolutely 0 seasoning anywhere on that piece of fish. Felt like I wasted money by picking this menu item, would not recommend. Overall, disappointing to see one of my favorite seafood spots missing the mark on my last visit. Service was good as always, but the food was unfortunately a flop. We had a fabulous meal at Off the Hook for my birthday. I started my meal off with a Strawberry Aperol Spritz which was a fun twist on my favorite cocktail. We had the calamari as an appetizer. It wasn't the best one i've ever had but I did very much enjoy the lemon sauce that came with it. Some of the calamari was a bit chewy for my liking. For my entree, I had the Maryland Crab cake which had virtually no filler. It was probably the best crab cake i've had locally. My boyfriend had the Grouper with Chroizo. He said it was very good. Since I was celebrating my birthday, our server surprised us with free dessert. I chose the cheesecake which was wonderful. Overall, the service was wonderful and the restaurant is beautiful. It's worrisome when the name of the place is a humblebrag that could turn out to be all lies (looking at you "'Best' Teriyaki"), but this place earned its name. Everything here was wonderful. We came in with a big party and they found us a semi-private area in the back. The waitstaff had no issues accommodating, keeping the drinks flowing and the food coming! I decided to go with something weird like "strawberries and salmon" and it was an interesting but tasty choice. I probably wouldn't order it on the regular, but it was still good. Everything else, though, was top notch. I loved the clam chowder and stole a few bites of my wife's Chilean Sea Bass. The coconut rice pairs well with just about everything too, so I highly recommend getting that to share (although it's a bit pricy for what you get). Service was amazing, the staff was definitely busy but they still were extremely attentive. The ambiance is split, one side appears to be more formal and elegant and then there's the bar side where some folks were in jeans, but still upscale. The food was amazing. My only gripe was the fact that they were out of so many things...which just proves how good the food is but was heartbreaking at the same time. We got the crab cake which is the first crab cake I've ever had that was predominatly crab and no extra breading. The oysters were good but they were a little on thr smaller end, but I'm not truly well versed in oysters to know if thats just happened to be the type we ordered. For the entree I went with the pistachio crusted scallops just to try something different and honestly, wasn't too impressed. It seemed to lack any flavor or depth but the scallops were cooked to perfection so it was still worth it. My husband got the Chilean seabass which was out of this world. The reservation was for 5:00...we were seated by 5:20. At 7:00 one of the managers came to the table and said u will have to be done by 7:15 as we have a 7:30 seating. Celebrating our 9th anniversary this year and Off the Hook seemed like a great place to try. We've been driving past it for years and wanted to go for a special occasion. We've had a reservation and upon arriving we wait about 10 minutes to be seated. Our server came by quickly and shared the specials for the day. I wish they would print these out because after hearing a very descriptive explanation of them I wanted to then re-read what she has just said. She happily repeated herself but it was a lot to take in. Haha! We opted to get the appetizer combo special which had several pieces of fish. On a skewer there was swordfish, salmon, and tuna with an amazing creamy sauce, there was also a crab cake and a couple pieces of charred shrimp. Each had a sauce that was out of this world and everything tasted so good. For our mains, I got the scallops and my husband got the special, which was a cherry based seabass. His dish was a little more interesting than mine, much more powerful flavors, but my scallops were also super delicious. We each got a virgin drink--lavender lemonade and an orange ginger ale drink. Both were excellent! They offered us a complimentary dessert and we again opted for the special, which was a caramel cheesecake. Unfortunately, neither of us liked it. It was a rather "cheesy" cheesecake that came out in a big lump/pile, rather than a slice. Not a big deal of course, but kind of weird. Haha! A friend recommended Off The Hook and we needed to run errands nearby so decided to make it our anniversary dinner. It's a bit of a hike from the city and we ran 10 minutes behind. As we were pulling up, they called us and I assured them we were coming. Once we checked in with the host, we had an awkward wait. A 3 parties who had reservations at a later time slot (they got there 20 minutes early) and were seated before us / early. We were confused given that they called to check we were coming. Once seated we had a waiter in training who was helpful and did a nice job. The wine list is nice, beer options include a few local drafts. When we ordered they ran out of one of the specials, which was disappointing but we shall move on. Food wise: - Baked oyster - The amount of cheese overwhelmed the plate -Scallops - Cooked perfectly and the pieces of crab were delightful - Trout - It ended up being sweet, with the sauce which was unexpected. The almonds were placed on top, not crusted. Again, just not what we had anticipated. After we finished dinner, we were ready to move onto dessert. Unfortunately, it was a bit of an awkward wait again. We were done with our meals for 30 minutes before our dessert order and then a bit more of a wait for it to come out, making dinner longer than either of us planned. We did appreciate the anniversary details they included in our carrot cake (delicious with the cream cheese icing completing the cake well). Overall, it was a fine experience. In one word: Sensational I don't even like fish; take that into account as you read this flattering 5 Star review. :) It was my first visit at this establishment, and it surely did not disappoint. My wife started off with a Creme Brulet Expresso Martini (she loved it and refused to share it with me) and I was happy to see they had Bells Two Hearted on the beverage menu. We ordered 6 oysters from Virginia and they were as fresh and as clean as could be. To boot, they came with various options to drizzle on them (lemon, horseradish, cocktail sauce, house vinegar based sauce, cilantro sauce, and a habanero tomato sauce). Our stars of the show were the cocktail sauce and the cilantro sauce. The latter was so amazing that I started dipping my bread in it. I almost slapped the bussers hand when he took it away, JK, or not? I wasn't a huge fan of the habanero, but the reality is, they have so many options they are guaranteed to please the pallet of the masses in one way or another. So that is completely okay and commendable. But, the oysters were so fresh, that just a touch of lemon would have been perfect to enjoy their taste. In some ways, it's regrettable to pour anything on these "sea gems" given their freshness. We ordered oyster shooters, which were, frankly, amazing. They were a special that came with habanero tequila, an oyster, spicy seasoning on the side of the glass, and a beautiful fresh tomato salsa at the bottom of the shot. No, I didn't shoot it, why, because it was too good to disappear into my mouth in one bite. I enjoyed it thoroughly over a few minutes as all the ingredients were perfect. Seriously, give it a try if you like oysters and alcohol is okay with you. The ones we ordered were spicy, but the spice didn't linger. Next up, my wife ordered the jumbo scallops "hoezel style" and I had the ruby red trout "Saltimbocca." While both were incredibly special, I have to give a big shout out to the red trout/Saltimbocca combination. It just worked out so well. I never thought the ingredients would mix as amazing as they did, and my god, I was so wrong. I am so happy I went outside of the box and placed my trust in the chef that created the dish. We also ordered the Lobster Whipped Potatoes which was really good, and spectacular on its own right, but probably unnecessary for our dinner. Not saying there was anything wrong with it, it was fabulous, but, we didn't realize how big the fish entrees were. In hind-site, I would have left it out as we took it home. Again, not a knock on it, just too much food. For a party of four or so, order it and enjoy. Finally, we had their Carrot Cake as a desert. It was a stunningly brilliantly crafted dish; I really enjoyed its careful presentation and amazing taste. It mixed well with a wonderful caramel sauce and an ice cream that I believe was vanilla bean with possibly caramel; hard to tell with the caramel in the sauce. Outstanding! In conclusion, do I need to say more? No, I don't. Just visit. Or don't, I'm okay with you leaving a table open for me. But, definitely reserve ahead of time as everyone else also knows how awesome this place is. Quick Note: I'm a sauce fan, not a fish fan, so I was more worried about what the fish was prepared in. Our amazing server kindly let me know that they are only guidelines. Feel free to find a fish type and mix and match with a different presentation. They will honor your request. Another Quick Note: Service was fantastic; they have a fabulous staff here. And Another Quick Note: they don't have salt and pepper on the tables. Lots of people coming and going at the bar and table sides of the restaurant and every table was in use for the duration of our dinner. My wife and I ordered the appetizer special which came with a crab cake, 2 Cajun shrimp, and a skewer of salmon, swordfish and tuna bites. I really enjoyed this dish and the different flavors and textures--the sauce pairings were really nice too. For dinner I ordered Chilean sea bass and my wife got scallops. I really liked my dish but the cornbread was really dry. I thought my wife's scallops were cooked perfectly but then dish seemed under seasoned to me and lacked intrigue. For dessert we ordered the specialty cheesecake and unfortunately it just wasn't what we were expecting. My wife loves a slice of cheesecake, and that's what we thought we were getting, but this was more of a novelty cheese ball with Tajin and a fruit salsa. Certainly an interesting dish but just not what we had imagined it to be. Maybe if there was a way to provide an image or a little more of a description, it could've tempered our expectations. We stopped at Off the Hook in Warrendale, near Cranberry Township for lunch. The meal began with the combo platter appetizer that included fish skewers, crabcake and grilled shrimp. At a $30 price point two shrimp was light and one of them still had a significant amount of shell attached. The crab cake was excellent and the fish skewers were good. Entrees included Parmesan encrusted swordfish and Florida black grouper, prepared Vera Cruz style. While the swordfish was very good, the grouper was prepared with chopped jalapeños that significantly overpowered the dish. The fish came with a side of sautéed vegetables that consisted of overcooked squash and undercooked carrots. The restaurant was comfortable but loud for lunch. We both started out with a seasonal cocktail. I cannot remember the name of the cocktails, but both were very tasty without an overpowering taste of alcohol. We also ordered an appetizer. It was the special of the day. It was a trio of a crab cake, salmon skewer, and grilled shrimp with a marmalade. For our entrees, I ordered the Swordfish -Hudson Canyon, Oscar style. So it came chargrilled, and topped with crab meat, asparagus, and Bernaise sauce. My friend ordered the stuffed jumbo shrimp which is gulf shrimp stuffed with lump crab and finished with a lemon infused aioli. This year we were seated then informed they were out of ALL fish selections except for Salmon and crab cakes by 3 pm. If you are looking for fresh seafood, you must try Off The Hook. It is a little pricey, but well worth it. I had the Blackened Cajun Mahi Mahi. It did not disappoint. My wife had the Jumbo Sea Scallops, Hoezel Style. She said that they were one of the best scallops she ever had. I don't give many 1-star ratings, but this place earned it. Not because of a bad employees - they were all very nice and reasonably efficient - but because the food was terrible, pretentious, and way overpriced. The wait staff gave big flowery scripted speeches about how the chef prepares all seafood to a medium temperature with care and fresh ingredients. The reality was a dry, old tasting piece of fish. But first, we started with a half dozen oysters. The Wellfleets were described as "large" and "plump". They were neither. They were tiny and tasteless for $24. For dinner, both my sister-in-law and I ordered the night's special; sea bass over chorizo hash and creamed corn compote with chimichurri accents. The fish was cut thin and overcooked, carelessly tossed on top of some burnt sweet potato bits with a few black sausage pieces and a spoon full of creamed corn, and finished with four dollops of something approximating salty pesto at the edge of the plate. We both had the same opinion. My wife ordered the stuffed jumbo shrimp. She said they tasted fine, but jumbo is a stretch. The five shrimp looked tiny on the plate, and she was still hungry after. Sides are not included, so we got some coconut rice (soggy) and charred (burned) asparagus for the table. It was against my better judgement, but since my wife was still hungry, we agreed to split a desert. We went with the Oreo pops since there were three in an order, and three of us. Dry and hard on the outside, runny on the inside, overly sweet...meh. Here's the worst part - before tip the bill for the above plus four cocktails was $270. I have no idea why this place receives such good reviews, but for that kind of money I expect way more quality and ambiance. This is a mediocre chain restaurant in a strip mall that thinks it deserves Michelin Star money. read more

The bread was tasty and warm which is nice. I order the Pistachio Scallops which were cooked perfectly and tasted divine. My boyfriend had the Miso Black Cod, which he said was good, but mine was better. We shared the Lobster Whipped Potatoes which was really good with nice size pieces of lobster meat. I got the Chocolate Latte Cake to go which is a flour-less chocolate cake that has a fudge pudding consistency. Service was nice but we believe our server was under the influence of something. Its menu lists many sea foods--crab cakes, shrimp, oysters, salmon, scallops, swordfish, trout, mahi mahi, sole, tuna, etcetera--as well as some other foods (e.g., soups, salads, steak, chicken, and desserts) and many wines. My husband and I have been eating at Off the Hook for over 8 years. (Please see my previous reviews below). During our most recent visit, we celebrated our wedding anniversary. My husband ate his favorite appetizer of three tuna tartars with wontons (5 stars), and I tried the New England clam chowder soup (4 stars). My entree was a flavorful salmon fillet with a generous serving of slightly spicy vegetables (jalapeños, tomatoes, onions, olives, and capers) (5 stars). My husband's entree consisted of four Hoezel-style large scallops that were tender and buttery and were topped with jumbo-lump crab (5 stars). We enjoyed our sides of grilled asparagus (5 stars) and lobster whipped potatoes (5 stars) that contained huge chunks of lobster. We shared a very sweet carrot cake (5 stars), which did not contain raisins or nuts, contained cream cheese, and was topped with caramel ice cream and sauce. I get their Fallen Napoleon of Eggplant, which is the only vegetarian option on their menu. As a vegetarian, I wish they offered more veggie-friendly entrees but you also can't expect too much considering they're an upscale seafood restaurant. My girlfriend is a huge fan though, especially since they have her favorite oyster, Blue Point from Long Island Sound, NY. She also loves their swordfish, cooked Caribbean Style. They have many fish options and they also give you the option to have it cooked a particular way to give it some flavor! Their drink menu is great but we recommend going during the Holiday season to try their featured drinks like the S'mores espresso martini & Yule Mule. What a difference 9-months makes! After eating here in 2023, I was excited to be back in Pittsburgh to snag a reservation again. It's still a beautiful restaurant and it was packed on a cold Tuesday night in January. Service was absolutely lacking on this visit. Our table was routinely waiting for refills of water. After ordering cocktail and beer refills, they were routinely forgotten until the waiter returned for something else and remembered. And with 2 waiters supposedly taking care of the table, this is really uncalled for. Food wise, a complete 180 from last time. I was happy to order the Sea Bass which I had on my first visit and it was so good back then. The "Pan Seared" version this time was not-so-seared. I posted a pic of last years vs. this years and it's a shame when a great restaurant becomes mediocre. It went from the best seafood I've ever had (yes, really) to a place I may not go back to. In addition, the ginormous amount of quinoa served with the seabass was cold and the burrata was an odd pairing. Fish and Cheese? It works at McDonald's I guess. The charred appetizer of shrimp, crab cakes, and a fish skewer was excellent as were the sides of lobster mashed potatoes and crab Mac-n-cheese, but portion sizes of these were not impressive. The crab Mac-n-cheese was maybe enough for 2 people if you're lucky, but not 3-5 as the waiter pointed out. My 1st review sang the praises and perhaps they've gotten too popular and quality is suffering. It happens too often and I hope they can get back to the quality of before. Lovely time at Off the Hook! My husband and I went for my birthday dinner. The parking lot was packed, but we were able to find a spot quickly. We had a waiter in training and he did a nice job. For drinks, I ordered a N/A lavender spritz, which was very tasty. For food, we started with the plum island lettuce cups as an appetizer, then I did Parmesan crusted swordfish and husband had strawberry salmon. We shared lobster mashed potatoes as a side. Everything was fantastic! The sauce on the swordfish was the right mix of salty and smooth. There were so many options for the preparation of the fish for each kind, which I thought was fun and provided a lot of variety. For dessert, we had the turtle pie and the white chocolate macadamia moose with raspberry ganache. Both were so rich and we were so full that we couldn't finish either of them (never happened to us before!) I really appreciate the vibes of white table cloths, candles, and low lighting. The service is always top notch here- We come every year for dinner the day after Thanksgiving. This year, we split appetizers... The skewer trio (x2) calamari and mussels. The mussels were the best Ive had there- we got it in the limoncello sauce... 10/10. We also got the tuna sashimi appetizer, but the dinner size (got 2 orders) and it was the perfect amount for 5 people. Delish wine, suggested by the sommelier. I have not eaten here for years, and I'm "hooked"! Everything I had was beyond flavorful and service was excellent. I had jerk swordfish. The spice had a little kick, but not too much. It was covered with diced peppers and fruit which made for a delectable sweetness with each bite. My wife had the scallops with crab meat, and the buttery sauce it came with was fantastic...like lick the plate fantastic. Scallops were cooked perfectly. A side of asparagus was plentiful for all and fresh. I've seen the hype, and this place lives up to it. From the oysters, to the entrees, to the ambiance, this was a great dining experience. Made the trip and visited Off The Hook for the first time in quite a while and it was well worth it! Sat the oyster bar and everything we sampled was outstanding -- mussels (both miso style and limoncello), oysters (both raw east coast oysters and grilled oysters) and the trio of tuna tartar. The large menu leaves a lot of tempting things to try in the future. The restaurant and bar area has quite a good vibe, which is impressive for its location in a deep suburban shopping center. The service was quite good considering how busy things were. The wine list is decent, if a little pricey. read more

High end seafood spot with a beautiful interior. We end up taking people from out of town here. They have a good selection of seafood and each piece typically has multiple preparation styles that you can choose from. Their fish tastes very fresh and the preparations are very good, I enjoyed my sea scallops with the pistachios. My only gripe is I feel its a bit overpriced for the food and drinks here. Nevertheless, it is still a good seafood restaraunt thats worth a visit. read more

Surprisingly good fish, wonderful service and lovely ambiance. This was my first time and I already want to go back. Our wait staff were knowledgeable, well trained and helpful. The crab cakes were mostly lumped crab, but very little breading. The Salmon was delicious. Although I don't agree it was the World's Best Carrot Cake, it was very good. read more

Without getting too wordy, I have been there several times and I'm just going to say hot and cold. I've had super good food. I've not had super good food especially for the price. Nice service very nice ambience. It's a shame that they took away the very popular happy hour with a happy hour menu that was super popular and super fun, especially in the summer also too many menus. read more

The lemoncello mussels were very good. Bread was just plain. The much anticipated sea-bass was average at best. Dry and not flaky. For such an extensive wine selection they had no Cakebread Chardonnay. Service was sketchy. A little too scripted. The server pushed sea-bass to every table, saying it was running low. I think not. We had a reservation for this place and we were seated almost right away. The restaurant is romantic inside, dark. There is tons of parking for this place since it's inside a plaza of some kind. Everything we ordered was yummy, the quality was there for sure. Shrimp cocktail sauce was very good, truffle fries were not too powerful, and my husband still raves about the cheesecake! read more
