Run, Run, Run as fast as you can away from Dr. Amanda Henry's dental office. I was looking for a new dentist because mine had retired and made an appointment for a cleaning at her office. (I have had cleanings every 6 months my whole life as my teeth are very important to me.) The hygienist Carol was amazing. Friendly, professional and welcoming. After my cleaning and x-rays, in walks Amanda Henry... unprofessional and intimidating....even though I did need some catching up with my dental work she couldn't bring herself to present it in a positive way so that I would not be overwhelmed. She was 'astonished' at all the work that needed to be done and said she would not trust the work of any other dentist and that my crowns all needed to be redone. I was gut punched and felt I must have done a terrible job of taking care of my teeth. Curious about her next approach, I signed up for the consultation. (They have a conference room right there in the office where they regularly meet with their patients to present the thousands of dollars for their treatment plans) The office manager presented the treatment plan which was $24,000. The dentist Amanda was only present for the first few minutes to once again tell me she had not seen such a bad case. Then the 'office manager' proceeded to tell me they were going to redo crowns in six phases in groups of 2's and 3's. They offer sedation as I would be more comfortable since I would be in the chair for several hours as her staff would do a lot of the work and she would be present for some of the work. I had to ask as we went down the list for her to explain the problem and the work that was going to be done on each tooth....had to ask the office manager.....I was told this treatment couldn't wait and should be done at once....they have financing available!! I have since been accessed by a different dentist and have had one cavity fixed with one crown to fix...nothing else urgent. I've been with Kay Henry DDS for over 5 years now. I have had a wonderful experience every single time. The staff here is professional, knowledgable, kind, and just plain fun to be around. I am someone who cares a lot about my teeth, but also used to dread visits to the dentist because I can't stand the noise of one of the ultrasonic machines. Dr. Amanda took the time to explain why this machine is important and also came up with the brilliant idea to have me wear headphones and listen to music while she uses it. She was also incredibly patient, checking in with me the whole time to make sure I was comfortable. Sure enough, every time I have gone back since, there are Beats headphones waiting for me. This is just one small example of the countless ways Dr. Kay and Dr. Amanda have gone out of their way to make me feel comfortable and actually look forward to going to the dentist. What a practice! This is a strong warning not to have work done by this dentist. My experience is thus: I had been going to a dentist very regularly for the past 4 years and decided to find someone closer, as I was driving over an hour for an appt. I decided on Dr. Kay Henry because she had 55 - 5.0 reviews. (I, now, do believe these can be manufactured.) First appt. in April, 2021. Got the full set of x-rays. Then, the lady who answers the phone and takes payments has a "consultation" with me and gives me the results. I was told I needed 8 crowns and 4 cavities filled. I was in shock. I asked how often do you see this....and she said "all the time". If I had a technical question, she had to leave the room and ask the dentist. But because of the 55 - 5.0 reviews I thought it must be right. Then the torture began. Even though I had said no vaso constrictor Dr. Henry used one anyway. I was forced to lay perfectly flat for 2 hrs. while she prepared 2 crowns. (When I lay flat and open my mouth wide my inside breathing apparatus closes up, so I had to try to breathe somewhat through my mouth with the water spraying in. It was like being water-boarded.) The 2 crowns were next to one another. I had asked why they had to be done at the same time and I was told it was easier for the lab. Two crowns were made and they turned out too short and they had to be drilled off by the dentist, which took another 2 hrs. (My current dentist uses temporary glue so the patient can try them out.) Then, at another appt., which took 3 hrs., the dentist filled a cavity and prepared crowns for 2 more teeth that were next to each other. Same scenario with the laying flat and not being able to breathe properly. I asked if the chair could be raised a bit and the doctor said that if she did, both she and her asst. would have to go to chiropractors. My next appt. was to have those same 4 teeth scanned to send to the lab to have the crowns made. But instead, even though I waited about 3 weeks for that appt., Dr. Henry spoke over my head to her asst. and instructed her to make another appt. for me to come in and have this scanning done, like I wasn't laying right there. It obviously didn't matter that I had waited a long time for this appt. and was there for it. She even had a cancellation and had extra time to do the proposed work. After that, I did not return. Another very important point, Dr. Henry prescribed ceramic (glass) crowns without discussing them with me. There are different kinds of crown materials and the patient should be involved in choosing. The doctor can advise but it's the patient's preference and okay if the dentist agrees for your specific case. If you go in her office she has several pictures of senior ladies with big smiles on their faces and lots of apparently new ceramic (glass) crowns. These same ladies are pictured on her website. Her website also says office hrs. everyday. In reality it's only M-W which creates long times between what I would call necessary appt. Lastly, her prices are extremely high, which probably enables her to only be open 3 days a week. Please do your homework before you let this woman work on you. Get a second opinion, like I wish I had. She's caused me untold trouble by preparing crowns for 4 of my teeth at once, as it can be very difficult to make crowns fit properly with certain "bites" (occlusions). Her "treatment" plan should have designated only one crown being prepared at a time. But the more work the dentist can do at once, the cheaper it is for her, and it doesn't lower the cost for you, because I asked about that. My last thought about this dentist is that I believe she is a senior citizen, like myself. You would think she would be more caring, but her actions show her to be callous. I have attempted to get copies of the scans of my natural teeth, but have been denied. These scans would help the new dentist make crowns for me. Good luck to her future patients. read more

"The focus of our practice is to treat you like our own family." How were you treating my fiancé like family when Dr. Kay Henry told her "I am sorry you are unaware of your track record"? This was in regards to the fact that Samantha has 7 "BROKEN" appointments. Well Kay, I hate to be the one to put the math together for you but she only has missed that many appointments because she AND 7 OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS have been going to your practice for 10 years. "We are committed to providing excellent dentistry to promote ideal oral and general health." What is the impact of a young Henry doing the work that Kay has provided for years? Are they going to feel that THE PATIENT is the priority? Or are they going to put together the full picture: Dentist uses daughter to extend the practice life and inherit practice cashflow when said dentist is done working.... Amanda this one is for you: "We strive to provide our patients with the best dental experience they have EVER had. As an office we work as a team and support each other." Here is the one that kicks me the most. Just the wording alone is complete garbage; "As and office".... Really? How about cut that part out and read the sentence without the fluff. It probably sounds better. I just want you to know that I had the worst dental experience ever when I was having two cavities repaired and you were hesitating at every turn. Especially when it came to the curing and grinding of the fillings. I noticed you checking in with the hygienist several times. After that appointment I had 10X the confidence in the hygienist compared to you. Body language counts. I wrote this now so that you might get a glimpse into what the impact is when the dental and admin experience is trash. Dentists are like clowns and scare people- at least most do. You know what I'm saying..... so finding a good dentist isn't easy, so when you find a great dentist you better stay with them. That is what I have found with Dr Henry and her friendly staff. So much so that I have traveled back to see her for my family and myself as we have moved from Illinois. Moving to both Minnesota and Michigan we have remained loyal clients for all of our dental needs. I would highly recommend her team and her. The office is clean, the team is knowledgeable and friendly, and most importantly I trust them because they continue to do a great job. I recently had some serious issues with my teeth and they took the time to discuss all options during a sit down in the office after my cleaning. I saw Dr. Kay Henry when I had pain/ sensitivity on the left side of my mouth, teeth on the bottom jaw, in the back. I had recently moved from Wisconsin to Illinois, so I was nervous about finding a new dentist. I "Googled" dentists near me and read reviews, and came across Dr. Kay Henry. She had many good reviews, so I called to make an appointment. The receptionist, Karry, was friendly and answered all of my questions. We easily talked for at least a half hour! I made an appointment and got in the following week, and when I arrived, I was impressed with how thorough they were with the X-rays. I have never had so many X-rays taken at one time. And they didn't charge us for the initial X-rays, except for the amount that our insurance covered. My cleaning appointment went great, and the dental hygienist, Danielle, made sure at all times that I was comfortable. The doctor found out what my pain was coming from-three teeth in the bottom left corner; one needed a filling, and the other 2 needed crowns. My husband had horrible insurance, so we looked into a plan and found a good one. Unfortunately, Dr. Kay and her daughter, Dr. Amanda were not covered under our plan. I had to schedule appointments elsewhere, otherwise I would have stayed with Dr. Kay and Dr. Amanda. read more

I went to kay henrys office bout a month ago cause my fiance went there and said her office and staff are really nice, so I decided to try her out since I was looking for a new dentist. I had a problem with my jaw not being able to open fully on one side, as well as clean my teeth and fix my cavities, she tried to get xrays but couldnt and sent me to a crystal lake oral surgery. She billed me for the meet and greet and also the attempt at xrays. Btw I dont have insurance so it was over 200 every time I had to go back to her. Her office dosent work with nitrous and I wanted that cause I know it works. So I went and seen another doctor who was willing to work with me on payments and she wasnt. I had to have a tooth pulled and my dentist was out of town teaching, so I called her office, she said she would write me a refferal to the oral surgen to have my one tooth pulled, so I drove to her office and sat and talked to her and she says sorry I dont feel comfortable giving out a refferal for a tooth I knew nothing about. Really cause I came to her office for that tooth and my jaw and cavities. Im livid with her practice cause I drove out of my way for a referral that she said she would give me and then backed out. Very un professional! As well as her walking out and leaving me to sit in the chairs because of her attitude towards me. I was shocked at this woman who runs this practice.
