She was funny, relaxed, attentive, and a wonderful host for our evening kayak trip to Masonboro Island. Not only did she know how to facilitate building community around a shared love for the water, she knew her way around, how to steer us away from the shallows, and also where we would see the most beautiful scenery & wildlife. Angela was so awesome! We decided last minute to go Kayaking to shark tooth island. She answered at 8pm and replied to texts even after that. We found a huge great white shark tooth, tons of fossils, and about 100 shark teeth. Angela was on time and so informative. If you are looking to find some teeth or just get out on the water do it. We had 2 adults and 4 kids under 9 and we rented 2 kayaks. read more

Living at the beach I always try and take my visitors on adventures. We decided to start exploring all of back bays and basins local to me and asked around town and yelp/google who is the best. Well we were not disappointed with Angela from Kayak Carolina. Very informative and professional setup, communication for reservations was outstanding. Kayaks were clean, new and great shape. Group of 6 in our group combined with 6 other people for zeke island and basin tour was a blast! very informative and lots of things to explore and see. The best place to rent a kayak. Angela was friendly, and has been in the kayak business for over 20 years. Her love of kayaking gave us great insights on our trip. We rented 2 double sea kayaks. She delivered them to Fort Fisher and gave us great directions in getting there. She shared how to get to the island, and the cool spots to visit. She checked the tides for us and was so friendly. Her dog,Zeke, is adorable. The kayaks were great and came with seat rests, paddles, and life jackets. She checked to see if she needed to bring children's life jackets, but the girls are grown. We spent 3 hours exploring Zeke's island and the marshes. Millions of hermit crabs, and tons of heron. It was a great trip. When we got back Angela had us leave the kayaks for her to pick up. Very easy to work with. Very knowledgeable. Would recommend highly and use again. read more

Ángela is very knowledgeable about the historical and natural areas of the reserve. She is very thorough in sharing her knowledge and patient with inexperienced and young kayakers. Went kayaking with my mom and had a really nice time. The waves were pretty hard that day so our guide was happy to let us go as long/ far out as we felt comfortable which was nice and he knew all of the historical facts of the area we were kayaking. Fun activity, but not worth $60/per adult, especially without any extras like snacks and water. First, the bad: Our tour guide told us that Fort Fisher played a key part in the Civil War... in 1745. He had his tide in/out backwards which left us walking our kayaks about 300 feet or more in to shore as it got too shallow to paddle in at the end of the trip. Also, there was some miscommunication about our group and how many people were coming, so they did not have enough kayaks available for us. They kindly brought more, and the extra tour guide, however it took an hour and it was HOT waiting on the shore with 3 children under 7. The Good: Beautiful area. The kayaking was low effort and there were tandem (two person) kayaks for an adult and a child to paddle together. We saw tons of little fiddler crabs, a blue crab, and some neat water birds. It was a fun activity to do as a family of 9 adults and 3 children. Overall, though, it was not worth $60 a person. I was not the one scheduling the trip, so I was surprised at the end when we all paid. Had they 1) been on time, 2) had tour guide that knew accurate information, and 3) had water and snacks for us included in the price, I could see paying up to $45 per person. Additional tip - the nearest bathroom and vending machines for water/snacks are at the ferry launch, about a quarter mile away. read more

Rented kayaks for the day and paddled around the estuary, eventually making it all the way to the Atlantic side. The kayaks were perfect and the guy we rented from, Matt, was really awesome: friendly, helpful, good advice about where to go, good simple instruction for the couple of people in our group who hadnt kayaked before. We took our twin six year olds at nine in the morning. We had a very good time. great experience for the kids and my wife and I enjoyed it as well. Got our money's worth! Rented from Carolina kayak and was very impressed with their helpfulness and friendliness. We scheduled for a half day rental and Kirby was kind enough to call us back to suggest another day due to bad weather predicted for the day we had scheduled. Matt was very informative with tips on paddling and body mechanics. The kayaks we rented were very high quality kayaks as well. I will definitely rent from Carolina Kayaks again! read more
