My bf and I tried on life jackets while she grabbed our canoe and paddles and she pushed us out into the water. There are two paths, a scenic path and a path with food, both are very pretty though. We saw so many animals but I could only take pictures of so many. When you go to the restaurants you do have to tie up your boat yourself but that's super easy like even I figured it out. There are two restaurants on the path, a bar type restaurant and a seafood restaurant. We went to the bar and i'd definitely recommend it! We decided there to keep our original reservation since it there was only a small chance of rain. The staff on-site was super nice. They helped us load into the water & helped us get out. They had life jackets & various sizes so you could choose one that fit. Unfortunately for us, it rained about 45min after we got into the water but we found some trees to hide under until the rain stopped. It was actually pretty cool experience to watch it rain. The more you paddle the faster you're gonna finish. Kids could enjoy this but there is no swimming just floating. My friend made the suggestion when we were looking for spot to launch that wouldn't cost $15/boat. The convenience of this cost savings makes up for the downsides. The two downsides are the small, tight parking lot and the long trail from the parking lot to the place where you can put your kayak in to the water. That second problem could be mitigated by the use of a hand wagon...we just need to get one. Ha ha! I am eager to explore more of the park on foot, but I can certainly guarantee I will be back here for more kayaking adventures.

There are benches to rest on and swings too. I got a bit out of breath sometimes because it was a bit more strenuous than I anticipated. We saw lots of people walking their dogs, kayaking/canoeing. There used to be a waterfall you could check out, but it's not closed off since it's private property. You can park down in here in the small lot.

Also, we asked for firewood and saw a pallet of it behind the building but wasn't allowed to purchase any. The hours on the store are flaky and I'm never coming in late April again. We wanted to avoid the crowds but that wasn't a good choice I guess. Also, tent camping left us hearing the neighboring tent guests sounding like hound dogs from midnight until 3 am. As a first timer, I didn't think to protect my keys. I came out and my car wouldn't start. I asked if they could assist with a jump and they were willing but realized my battery was fine. The guy mentioned my key fob (apparently if water get in it can disable the sensor leading the car to not recognize the key). He took it upon himself to go use a device to dry my keys out for me. The perfect spot (public access) to set your small watercraft afloat. The boathouse facility also promotes the waterfront environment by hosting canoe tours of Beargrass Creek for school and corporate groups. And while there's no boat rental here, they do apparently offer canoe/kayak/paddle board storage at pretty reasonable fees if the website is to be trusted. The only real down side is that the boathouse and their advocates are pretty limited in their public outreach, communicating with already-connected groups but not so much with the swaths of humanity that crowd the park each summer. Most locals and tourists won't get a chance to float upstream. Perhaps this will change as Botanica grows and Beargrass Creek gets cleaned up (as promised) in the next several years. But if you're among the industrious and adventurous, by all means do contact these people to arrange a group outing. Beargrass and the Ohio are a lot more approachable than one might think.

You can book your reservations online however we decided to pay up at the desk due to the weather. Didn't know if it was going to rain but it turned out to be a gorgeous day. First it is required to sign a waiver then you check in. There are several options. You can choose between the 2,3,6 or 8.5 mile trek. You can rent tandem kayak, single kayak or canoe. We opted for the tandem kayak $86.00 for the both of us and we did the 6 mile round trip. You pick your life jacket, wait for your name to be called out and you take a bus. From there they will drop you off depending on what mile marker you chose. The staff makes sure to explain where to not go and when you have to be back. Make sure you are back by 7:00 pm. Once you get to the river you pick your paddle and kayak/canoe and off you go. You may hit some rough shallow spots but for the most part, it was smooth sailing. Make sure to pack a small cooler for your drinks. Stay hydrated. We also kayaked to Little Miami Brewing and had a couple of libations. That was fun! Overall the whole experience was great and I had a blast. Coming back the staff was super friendly, helpful and laid back. I would definitely come back. This place rocks.
